No it wasn't. The aiming cooldown actually makes a lot of sense and means the game isn't just ridiculously easy if you're in any way decent at FPS games like any other game. It actually forces you to participate in the RPG elements of the game.

Because Kentie's launcher is a buggy mess, and you can do all these thing you mentioned without it. Custom renderers are fine though.
