Steam doesn't pay for this, so it's totally developer/publisher decision.
Epic pays a lot of money, so it's just sold out case that will make things a lot of worse for consumer.

Apparently not, since you're still posting.

There's no such thing as "Steam Exclusivity."
Developers are free to put their game on Steam and also whatever other site they want. Steam is just convenient which is why it's popular.

Are you retarded?

I'm so sick of this. As a pitbull owner I have to watch my back and front for these damn aggressive animals whenever I step outside with my precious dog Toots. I used to be able to let her run around the neighborhood off leash all day but certain types of people have started to move into my neighborhood and they seem to all have these damn garden shitters. At first they complained my little girl was exploring thier yard (as she always had, was never a problem I mean the Gonzalez's who use to live across the street never minded since they had a sweetie named Puto that played with my little girl). I ignored them at first but then they started letting their cats out of the house (something NO cat owner ever should do) and my little Toots keeps coming back scrached and upset. I called the cops but they said I need to see it happening.

What is going on? Why do people own these vicious things? Anyone know of any cities with laws against cat ownership? I would like to get something passed here where I live so my little girl can romp and stomp like she needs.

That would require them to have the sense to put an actual good game in their library.
Right now they have nothing worth playing, and there's no sign of that changing.

What kind of dog is that?

I would kick your cat if it swiped at me. Train it. You wouldn't accept violent aggression from your dog.

There are a lot of GOG exclusives though....you just cant play them on a modern machine

None of them. Shills think that a game being de facto exclusive on Steam is the same as Valve throwing millions of dollars at publishers.

Anyone got the SMASH and SLAM image, or something along those lines?

Here's an idea, just don't make a very avoidable noise that the cat hates.

You can raise them right, though. Asshole cats get that way because they owners let the cat be completely in charge of them. If you're afraid to get up when your cat is sitting on your lap then you're a bad owner.

>A game being Steam exclusive is a decision solely made by the developer
>A game being Epic exclusive is a decision made when you have millions sitting on the table paid for by the Chinese

There's nothing preventing or obstructing publishers from releasing their games on other platforms. That means it's not exclusive. Valve didn't coerce them into staying exclusively on Steam. That's the point. Many just don't bother releasing anywhere else because Steam's userbase is so massive that it would be counter-productive or cost-inefficient to bother with anything else.

You can't even speak proper English .

>3 hours and the dog eater can't even name 1

But they apparently are. Do you think it's a coincidence Bethesda and M$ decided to break exclusivity to their distribution platforms in the same month? Whether it's through an up front bonus or lowered fees, it seems likely Valve is paying up.

And no those games aren't exclusive to Steam only, but they are exclusive in that they are only available in a few places.

Isn't it just as anti-consumer either way? Also your second greentext is also a decision made solely by the developer.

>when you scare a bunch of steam users who spent thousand of dollars on their account

Arma 3

No, because the first decision is made due to the consumer deciding Steam is the best platform. It is playing into the majority's choice that they prefer Valve's store.

The second decision is going against that public decision and releasing it on an inferior platform because you were given so much money you could literally sell zero copies and still made a profit. This is strong-arming the market, it's bypassing competition - a literal monopoly tactic. It also removes ANY reason for the developer to support the game after launch because they've already made their money back.

>When you say you're not a Chinese slave while the puppet strings are yanked by Tencent

Maybe just stop being a dumbass. If the cat is sending you very clear signs to fucking stop, then you should stop.

How can releasing a product on the BIGGEST store around which the CONSUMER CHOSE be anti-consumer? Do you understand what is being said?

>being scared of little cats
Purr-thetic.

>Steam sticks a noose around developers necks and kicks them out to hang
>Epic pays devs and funds games to get made, even covering their losses if consumers are shitheads and can't buy their shit
Wait, why is Epic the bad guy here again?

You strawman'd those anons so hard they became actual scarecrows

That game is also coming out on consoles, plus going by this post
This is a good answer tho

You're pedantically misinterpreting the reason why exclusivity is bad for customers and ignoring reality. Each individual developer and publisher are responsible for deciding where their game ends up. The problem with exclusivity is when a storefront of platform bribes a publisher to release ONLY on their platform. This decision by the storefront artificially limits the options of the customer and THIS is why it's bad. A developer or publisher deciding on their own where to put their game is not cancerous for customers because customers can ultimately convince the developer or publisher to port it to a different platform or release it on a different store which happens quite often. If a deal was made for exclusivity then this can never happen and customers never have a choice.

tl;dr: Valve doesn't pay people to release only on Steam. Fuck yourself for acting like they do.

It really is incredible how the Chinese have no understanding of a fair market, or how a consumer separates the wheat from the chaff.

>Bad product gets funded by Epic
>Bad product gets greenlit for a sequel despite selling zero copies and nobody likes it
>Developer wastes time developing shit game's sequel
>Doesn't get Epic's bribe, sorry "funding" again
>Bad product flops like a fucking bag of shit
>Developer wonders what happened

If your game doesn't sell on Steam. You never marketed yourself and you were never a good game to begin with. Indies bemoan how they're lost in a sea of garbage, but that's where they belong.

>scared
My dude, I havent been afraid of anything my cat does in a decade. I'm just not so brain damaged I can't tell when an animal has had enough or wants you to stop doing something. They have very clear signals and body language you'd have to be in a fucking coma to miss them.

Read what he fucking said again if you don't understand it.

because we're not devs; we're consumers, dumbass.

>pcbros invested thousands in a platform
>no matter what happens to any other platforms now or in the future, pcbros will defend it regardless
You really shouldn't bother arguing. You are never going to give up on steam anyway.

fuck
the power in my neighborhood went down when you posted this
mom is gonna freak

To be fair, there are some real gems out there. The good indie devs are good at making games, not at marketing. Those are extremely different skillsets. The indie dev needs to hire someone to market for them, or contact a publisher for assistance.
It is true, though, that games that are good enough will develop a fanbase that will advertise for you, but you still need to know how to get their attention in the first place. Either that or get lucky.

you wanna know why steam gets praised for it? its because epic has a lack of the most basic features and is also spyware

>inb4 "actually the extravagant amount of information it gathers is totally required for it to function despite the fact that no one else does this shit"

Attached: 1553557866281.png (164x209, 47K)

Buyer/consumer power means having choices. It has nothing to do with what the majority of buyers is doing, if you don't have choice buyer power is low. Giving exclusivity to Steam is just as anti-consumer as giving it to anyone else, because if any given buyer doesn't want to use that platform they're shit out of luck.

By your definition Steam doing exclusivity shit would be pro-consumer because they're the most popular business.

>Indies bemoan how they're lost in a sea of garbage, but that's where they belong.
This. Shit like hollow and shovel knight blew up massively by positive word of mouth, Grim Dawn and Rimworld are early access success stories, and middling games like Deep Rock Galactic do perfectly fine by virtue of having competent Devs and PR

>because you were given so much money you could literally sell zero copies and still made a profit
Epic isn't giving devs nearly that amount of money. Coffee Stain said it was still a questionable decision going exclusive given how little the sum was.

Except steam hasn’t actively paid for said exclusivity, you retard. Being solely a developer choice, and due to them not being bribed to be in the black no matter what, means that consumers can then influence the developers via sales.
The developers epic has bribed have absolutely no incentive to listen to consumers so long as the bribes keep coming in.

SO whats Steam supposed to do about people willingly going exclusive to them. Demand they release on a competitor's platform?

Phoenix Point guy also let slip(ie, bragged about it) that Epic paid them enough money that every single backer could demand a refund and they'd still be in the black(ie, making a profit).

>implying a game which is released on PC, but only through steam, isn't then inherently exclusive to steam

Why do steamdrones act like steam isn't DRM that you're forced to use? Just because you don't remember complaining about this new launcher you had to install to play counter-strike doesn't mean that nobody else does.

Attached: 1544068159895.jpg (250x250, 8K)

Steam is trash, the perfect example of the negative aspects of capitalism. Monopolies are the death of society.

You absolutely sure about that?

>pitbulls are literally 400 times more deadly than a shark
Pet sharks w h e n
youtube.com/watch?v=8ognfYSICMo

There's not usually much reason for a dev to keep going after release. Almost all of their sales are made in the first month. What they do after that won't sell more copies. The people who have already bought your game aren't going to buy a second copy so who cares about them.

I mean, it's not like they'll keep talking about a well supported game and act as free future advertising.

>SO whats Steam supposed to do about people willingly going exclusive to them
Nothing, but this isn't discussion on how anti-consumer steam is being, it's about how anti-consumer the devs are being. You/user was talking about developer choice and I'm arguing that unless they're being literally extorted it's always their choice.
