I just finished Danganronpa 1 and 2, and it has to be one of the most overrated series of games I've ever played. Holy hell.
While I enjoyed the story and the themes (althought not the characters), the actual gameplay is insanely lacking and it feels like there's gameplay for gameplays sake instead of just being pure ADV.
PTA sucks major ass and is one of the worst rhythm games I've ever played.
My main gripe is really how the game treats you like a fucking retard. I figured everything out after just investigating, but I have to sit and wait for the main character and supporting cast to catch up. What's the point of gameplay if I can't speed things up?
The game's characters are nothing but caricatures and get insanely boring quite fast. The characters are just their talent and nothing else. They have nothing interesting to say. Freetime is pointless.
And for all the hyping up of Nagito, I gotta say, what a load of bullshit. No doubt he's the highpoint of Danganronpa 2, but do people really have such low standards when it comes to storytelling and characters? I wasn't expecting much, but man, what a letdown.
Also, the mysteries are insanely easy and I can't fathom why some people had problem figuring out the whodunnit and howdunnit in any of the cases. Even on the supposed "Mean" difficulty, I breezed through it all.
I hope Danganronpa V3 is better, because I'm not impressed at all and I really can't figure out why people like this franchise so much.
It sure as hell isn't for the mystery aspect.

It really isn't that hard when you see the crime scene and everything that led up to it. The Funhouse case especially comes to mind. There's zero inconsistencies when it comes to laying out the clues beforehand, which is quite boring. Everything has a setup.
And I think it's a problem in general, whenever a character gets more screentime than usual, you know what's gonna happen, and then the character who almost said fuck all the entire chapter also got something to do with the murder. It's all so tiresome.
