I think the "joke" is that in earlier gens the majority of the pokedex was built around "what is that exactly?" while the newer generations of pokemon are more of a "ahh, so that's what that's supposed to be!" I think what they're trying to say is that although the designs can seem clever and cool looking they're all sort of based around something very simple. Like the original one of Scorbunny and Nidroran. Both are rabbits but Nidoran looks unique and distinct while Scorbunny just looks like a silly rabbit. I get that pokemon come in all shapes, sizes, designs and forms but the point being made is that most designs seem to have a lot of thought taken out of them the later the generations go on. Which is understandable in my opinion, I wouldn't want 10 variations of Nidoran but the same applies the opposite way. I don't want 10 variations of Buneary but we already have 3-4 that follow the same style of looking silly and cartoonish

Hmm, it seems rock types tend to be bulky (by sight), slow, and have a high defense. On the other hand ground types are just a bit faster, defense is still usually the highest overall stat, but the attack seems like ground's main basis.

Ground also seems to be more related to dirt or even the crust of the earth. That being demonstrated by it's immunity to electricity. Rock seems to be more cave like or mountainous. Rock attacks also seem to be based on weight. For example Rock moves are super effective against fire, ice, flying, and bug types. To me it seems like it gains an advantage over ice, flying, and bugs because in a sense rocks when thrown could shatter ice, hit a bird down from flying, or squish a bug

It's mostly a catch-all for Pokemon like Stantler or Stoutland who would otherwise not have a type, and is more animalistic. The majority of the type is mammalian beastial Pokemon.

No. The meta was absolutely not cemented. Dragon only became a good type the previous generation, as did Fighting. Gen 1 and 2 were dominated by Normal types. Gen 3 had no dominant meta, but Water, Ground, and Psychic types were pretty prevalent. Gen 4 introduced a handful of new, decent Fighting types, and added yet another Dragon Psuedo-legendary, which is really not indicative of the power of the type. Correlating Garchomp and Salamence with all Dragon types is like correlating Tyranitar with all Rock types. The types themselves are garbage, but the Psuedo-legendaries in them are amazing.

Hell, in Gen 5, Dragon wasn't even a dominant meta type. Unless you played exclusively Smogon, because they banned the weather wars. But lo and behold, you ban the most dominant force, and the 2nd most dominant one becomes unreasonably strong. Kinda like banning Meta Knight in Brawl only led to Ice Climbers dominating just as hard. Fairy did absolutely nothing to weaken Ground/Steel/Water types that were the strongest types in the game at the time, and remain so (+Fairy) to this day.

This is my problem with fairy type. It completely destroyed any possibility of ice type being used for anything ever. ice type has always been a terrible typing but at least it had a niche as a dragon slayer. Granted water types have basically usurped it already but water types do everything anyway. why are water types more consistent burners than fire types again? But now that Fairy exist and a completely blank dragon types there's no reason to ever use any ice type ever again. Because fairy type is psychic type except better.

Fairy was too strong, so it killed off most Dragons in OU. Without any Dragons to slay, that caused Weavile and Mamoswine, the only OU Ice types, to fall, too, since they had no niche in OU anymore. Sad story, many such cases.

I don't know where you can find hard records of type dominance, but Smogon has OU tiers dating back to R/B/Y. Here's Crystal, for example. Without having been there, it's just something you'd have to research for yourself.

Ice is bad because its a bad type, that's all there is to it. they would have to remove some/all of its weaknesses and/or give it several new resistances for this to change.

Ice attacks are extremely useful, but the actual ice type itself is always garbage, no matter what. You NEVER want to actually be ice type, even if you wan to carry ice moves. Ice is simply a liability in every single situation, there is no type combination involving ice that wouldn't be better off without that ice type.

Let's take water and ice, for example.

Fighting in general is not really treated in a very logical sense.
Rock is however which makes it beating ice feel so weird.

Dark can mean both literally darkness and dirty fighting, as seen in most dark type moves. Fighting > Dark just means that fighters with properly trained techniques win against evil fighters and cheaters.

By that logic fire should also be weak to flying as flying moves are mostly represented by wind.
Poison should also fuck most every other type.
In reality this isn't done for balancing reasons. Something that people seem to be okay with except with ice for some reason, which has to realistic.

mostly because ice gets fucked in every scenario. grass isn't super popular but at the barest minimum grass types get to stall with leech seed and they can check any Pokemon passing out narcotics with Spore. They also resist three common typings. Electric is a super linear typing but at the end of the day they only have one weakness and they are immune to paralysis. but ice types don't get anything to set them apart from other typings or make them useful. They have a million weaknesses and freeze isn't common enough to justify using one. They're not the Dragon Slayers anymore because fairy-type has taken that away from them and water type uses their moves better than they do. Their unique weather is terrible and the only typing that benefits from it are other ice types. Rain obviously benefits water types but the fact that they have the power of fire type moves mean that rain also blesses steel, grass, and Bug types since they all lose a weakness. It also blesses Electric types since they get 100% accurate Thunder and flying types who get 100% accurate hurricanes. Hail just damages anything that isn't an ice type and you get 100% accurate blizzard and that's about it barring a few specific abilities. Ice type isn't a team player, when you use one everything has to be about protecting it in a game that's all about having a team of six working together

I stopped playing after Gen 4, that's when they started to piss me off with adding way too many legendaries, implementing a new aesthetic I hated and destroying old Pokemon with unnecessary evolution specifically Rhydon, Magmar, Magneton, Electabuzz, Tangela and Lickitung. The new evolutions pissed me off the most for some reason.
