Why are so few devs making Grand Strategy games...

Why are so few devs making Grand Strategy games? They seem simple enough to make and Paradox is making a fucking killing off them.

What a shite looking continent

>t. butthurt akaviri

unless somebody makes a porn game or makes one with simulation detail theyre not going to be able to compete with paradox

they took elder scrolls idea and ruined it with the scale. since you can run across skyrim in no time at all, all things considered, how big is their entire world, really? we are too believe the entire world is smaller than a country irl. fucking stupid

how do i make stellaris fun? need some mods pls

Attached: 1464392648345.gif (500x375, 766K)

Because they're not particularly interesting to make and require severe autism and usually history knowledge. There's also no niche to get into, because grand strategy games basically don't really age.

So there you go:
1) boring to make;
2) usually requires knowledge;
3) nonexistent potential profits.

Roll back to old versions of the game

Stellaris mods suck. Shame there aren't proper Star Wars or Halos conversions. What is there is just unsatisfying.

Niche and complexity

Techlanf's Pure Farming showed that it's not easy to compete with an established title in a niche

Can't wait!

>how do i make stellaris fun?
you don't
t. 300 hours in stellaris

akavir is actually to the right

try uninstall.exe

Install ES2

Refund it and buy Sins of Solar Empire like everyone told you to do before you bought it to begin with.

it takes place under water?

a turn based porn game filled with statistics, now were talking

They suck. Turn based is infinitely better for a long strategic campaign and RTS is better for empire building and battles. Grand strategy is literally just map painting.

Why don’t you just play Empire at War?

Hi, /civ4x/

Shut up and take your Horatio Sauce

is ES2 actually good? I played Endless Legend and thought it was boring as piss

I like ES2 and thought EL was boring as well. I feel it flows faster, and it also has the best politics/voting system I've seen in a strat game.

Sengoku rance

Its because GS games are boring games that pretend to be super deep when their meta is the same as any other strategy game. Sliding your doom stack around the map into other ones, while leaving a streak of your color is fun but it loses it's appeal fast.

>b-b-but you have to limit yourself to have fun!
Fuck you.

It would not even be that hard. I've unironically interrupted CK2 to fap more often than any other game and it's not even intended to be best porn game ever.

I do often. Its pretty great.

It's weird how Dark World managed to totally suck. Like they barely had to do anything but they still blew it

You know most non-Paradox grand strategy games are turn based, right?

>A porn GS game
You know you have a billion dollar idea there, right? You would unironically be making $100k/month through Patreon if you could pull it off.

>but it loses it's appeal fast.
Look at this reasonable non-autist
t. 8k combined hours around all Paradox games

im not sure which version i played but it sucked ass

>the game of thrones mod is just constant rape

Neat

You realize Total War, Civ, and the plethora of MoO clones are all grand strategy right? Not to mention Dominions. Paradox games are garbage.

4x isn't Grand Strategy.

civ belongs on the app store

How isn't it Grand Strategy?

Yes it is. Grand strategy is a wargame where the player operates on a nationwide scale. Why is Stellaris a GSG, but MoO is not? Do paradoxfags really not know what a GSG is?

Attached: wallpaper-1937214.jpg (1440x900, 104K)

that's what you get when you let 90s game devs keep their retarded ideas forever

Attached: tamriell.jpg (1924x1672, 713K)

>history knowledge
>EUIV litterally has fucking mesoamerican and andean states at a lower tech tier then random bumfuck african tribes

the realist niggas on the gsg scene right now

Attached: Amplitude_Studios_logo.png (1280x368, 40K)

its not grand strategy if it isnt made by paradox

lol

>nationwide scale
>moves one man to attack one city with 28 people

I think having somewhat more realistic metrics are important to distinguish grand strategy as a subgenre from regular strategy as a whole. In many ways Civilization still feels far too abstract, it's a complex game but everything about it from the way the map layout and territory control works to the lack of things like supply and attrition systems to the very distorted timescale makes it very much not a grand strategy game. This isn't meant to imply in any way that grand strategy is better than regular strategy either, it's simply a matter of different focus and scope.

4X isn't grand strategy because grand strategy starts with a pre-existing world state that must then be manipulated using the principles of grand strategy. 4X stats with everyone as one city/planet/etc.

There's a wh40k conversion, but my toaster can't run it

And also everyone with a brain agrees that Stellaris is not grand strategy.

I'm so glad they put a clock in the end turn button of es2. I kept losing track of time while playing that game. Now I'm not late for anything anymore.

>grand strategy starts with a pre-existing world state that must then be manipulated using the principles of grand strategy
Aaaaand how to you beat your opponents?
>expand
>explore
>exterminate
>exploit

It's not like I won my recent game of EUIV by simply being madagascar and doing nothing.

Crusader Kings 2 is the only worthwhile Grand Strategy, and it is only because it blends RPG and map painting. Paradox doesn't even understand what made it fundamentally different from all the rest of their games

mount & blade warband is the only good gsg out there

>Crusader Kings 2 is the only worthwhile Grand Strategy
Thanks for reminding me about that game. I haven't played Game of Thrones simulator in a while.

Just don't play the Game of Thrones mod. It's legitimately worse than the base game. After the End is the best total conversion, but you have to turn off Adventurers and Peasant revolts

>someone was making a god-tier map overhaul but stopped
I hate the vanilla map, it's looks like someone put it together one afternoon.

why would you turn peasent revolts off?

>It's legitimately worse than the base game
How so? I always enjoyed it, and the base game wound up taking features from it like personal duel skill.

Not a gsg, but Warband is the only game in its genre

it's a gsg

>I CAN'T SET ANY GOALS OTHER THEN EXPANDING INDEFINITELY
literally the mindset of a cancer cell

If you expand on that map they become very unbalanced and just a pain in the ass because you don't have water ways to move large numbers of troops. I did a long playthrough and those two things were the shit I would have changed

Too much railroading, bloating in features, dragons are retarded. Lots of shit that I just thought was retarded. I like A Song of Ice and Fire lore, but it doesn't work as well as the base game

>b-but that one thing! and that one!
user...

You're a faggot so your opinion is discarded

no you are so your opinion is discarded

I'm not the cock sucker who thinks Warband is a grand strategy

They're not going back to Yokuda. It's boring as shit, even when it was the main world.

After The End is so goddamn fun
>Push in Comancheria's shit
>Greater Louisiana becomes the Texas Empire

Attached: 1478164037927.gif (200x180, 2.97M)

Well it takes you like days to run across high rock by that logic, the games don't really follow a cohesive sense of scale

Yeah. My only issue is the map and some of the event triggers clearly push you to reunify the states, but you get bogged down in Adventurers and Peasant revolts that for some reason can have big stacks that make no sense.

Morrowind looks like a pile of shit.

The area of daggerfall is bigger than the entire UK, which is Northern Ireland, Scotland, Wales and England. IfI remember it's the northern portion of Hammerfell but all of HighRock known as the Illiac bay region

As another user pointed out, the scale is fucked, but from the map scale, the heartlands in Cyrodiil which comprises the island on which the imperial city resides should be almost non visible, but the scale is fucked given it's size on maps

paracux makes the worst grand strategy
Distant Worlds Universe is the best.
>tfw monopolizing all of the fuel sources in my cluster of stars
>if anybody goes to war with me, I stop trading with them
>their ships have no fuel and I can easily steamroll them
>land on their planets and ship them off to penal colonies to work as slaves and conscripts until their race dies off

Original Master of Orion is the best space grand strategy

Attached: 1289668413534298920.jpg (636x398, 42K)

if you didn't like EL you won't like ES2. I tried both and found them equally boring.

4x =/= gsg

>want to play crusader kings
>sex mod keeps adding balls to all the characters for some reason so i can't

>how two entire cradles of civilization and like 15 playable states are handled in a way that completely determines how they play and their ability is "just one thing"

why won't they update it aaaaaaaaa

download espionage mod
galactic assembly mod
new ship classes
some mods for traits
plentiful traditions
civic overhaul
eac at war
planetary diversity

These are some just from the top of my head
t. 400 hours and i only played maybe 5 hours on vanilla

How is DW:U not grand strategy

It's not made by Paracucks, same reason he thinks Master of Orion isn't

dumb paradoxshill

Hourly reminder that paradox is literally the only company that makes grand strat games, if any other company claims to make one they are lying it's just a 4x

So, what is the rest of the planet like?

Obviously they can't have real scale in video games. Take World of Warcraft for example. There are only a few NPCs and houses in a zone, but lore wise there are 50k+ people living there. Its the same in the Elder Scrolls universe.

no one cares, they're not important

would you consider civ a gsg game?

no

then master of orion and dwu arent grand strategy games.

Monkey demons that thaw from ice on a continent where perpetual war rages against snake people and a tiger dragon

Add in Glavius AI, 1080 & 1440p UI, 36 building slots, More Events Mod, District Diversity, Technology Ascendant, and The Utopian Dream

i'm arguing for mount & blade

without answering this question with another question, why aren't they grand strategy games
