I always kind of liked the explanation that in games like Splinter Cell most of the guys don't really want to find you anyway, so it explains weird LOS detection and stuff. After all if they find an intruder they might get killed.

People have literally zero patience. Sitting in a dark corner, with an enemy approaching, the tension mounting while you just sit there, not knowing if he will see you or not is supremely boring to them. Or at worst, they think it's bad game design.

Incredibly based taste, game is just as much a stealth game as a horror one. In terms of AI and tension, no stealth game comes close, has to be mentioned as one of the best ones. It is prob number one for me, just above chaos theory. While CT had more mechanisms the AI in isolation was so organic esp with the unpredictable mod. No stealth game has ever recreated the amazement of the Alien finding me under a medic bed, normally a safe place to hide in the game, due to the fact I stared at it too long.

Thief 1 is barely a stealth game in the undead levels. More like an adventure game with stealth elements.
For the record. I love the undead levels, and prefer 1's story/atmosphere over 2's.

None of the stealth games have come close to Splinter Cell for me. That series nailed everything: the gadgets, the controls, the atmosphere, the level design, even the multiplayer.
