yes

what game

yeah, white boys had friends who got together and played games in person

Yup. Halo 3 was massive. Then COD came along and stole the normies.
ODST, Reach, and the rest never had the same hype

I wish it still was today :(

not like there was any other console fps worth a shit at the time

In short, yes. There really is no equivalent today.

Halo CE, Halo 2 and Halo 3 all set sales records on release. We're talking bigger than GTA.

Yes, it only died because 343 are a bunch of retards.

>spongebob
>incredibles
Wow, those are still somewhat relevan-
>toys r us

ZOOMER

>live in an era where people do not remember Halo as a successful franchise

>blaming CoD for reach
OHNONONONO

There still isn't.

>mfw 343 murdered the golden goose just like Disney

Games in general were a bigger spectacle back in the days before digital downloads which gave people a way to play a midnight release without getting off their fat asses.

Halo 1-3 had really big turnouts like this, but so did a few games.

Halo was already on its way out even before 343 got it.

The hype for Halo 2 was insane, I can't think of anything today that compares except maybe Smash.

BELIEVE

damn I remember the Times Square Toys R Us. It was literally a kid's dream

gamespot is old enough to have some contemporary video content i'm sure

It was THEE most anticipated game of that generation. Especially since the release date kept getting pushed back.

Yes. It basically culminated into "the year of Halo" with Halo Wars, Mythic Map Pack, and ODST all releasing in 2009 and the Vidmaster challenge giving out recon.

Oh god yes.
There was a gigantic TVspot for the countdown of Halo 3 back when G4 existed.
It was legitimately MASSIVE. The marketing for it was huge. I think it even got a spot during that years superbowl with this trailer.
youtube.com/watch?v=MapTlW80f6Y

>tfw we live in an age where we will never get game trailers this high of quality again
H3 had some banger trailers.

Yeah, nowadays people only like that weirdo stuff. So strange.

i belived all the way until now and now we have MCC coming to PC and the age of Halo about to begin again, albeit in a much smaller scale. at least I can play with my bros again like old time.s

>tfw still remember Halo 3: Recon

Bro, Bill fucking Gates was handing out copies of Halo 3 on launch, fuck yea it was huge.

what is this picture from?

That price tag looks asian. Which would explain everything.

Yes. Halo was fucking massive, and arguably the biggest video game franchise for a time. Halo 3 was so hyped up that news stations were reporting on it. The hype for Halo is exactly what AAA companies started targeting towards. They wished they could have a game franchise as hyped up as Halo was, and that's when they started putting a ton of their budget into mass marketing. Destiny tried to capture the same feel once Bungie left Microsoft, but it just didn't pan out. I don't think there's been a game as genuinely hyped up as Halo 3 was back in the day, and the only things that come close are Kingdom Hearts 3. A lot of companies try to manufacture the hype now, and that's just something you can't do.

HOY MEETS BOY

Yes, zoomer.

Yes. Before the release of Halo 2, they had promotional videos with celebrities playing Halo 2 and shit. It was around the time video games became more than just a "kids toy" and video games became big business for the second time.

They marketed Halo 2 like it was the second coming of jesus christ.

Microsoft poured a ton of money into it.

Generic Halo SFM that focuses on Noble 6's ass.

>A lot of companies try to manufacture the hype now, and that's just something you can't do.
I'd agree with that. The hype for Halo felt natural as it slowly built up to the (assumed at the time) climax of Master Chief's story. People were fucking freaking out about this shit, and Bungie.net became one of the largest forums on the internet because of it.

Attached: Noble 6 Butt.jpg (1280x720, 286K)

I miss that Toys R us.

God this trailer is so fucking good.
It highlights everything that the ODSTs were before the fucking Spartan 4s came and ruined that.
this spirit of Halo no longer exists and it hurts my soul.

I remember when Halo CE was delayed slightly because of 9/11. Halo was huge for me back then but it really took off when the hype was building for Halo 2 in 2003/2004.

God damn, finally someone that understands how to adapt a video game into a piece of cinema

Every video game adaptation I have ever seen has been Uwe Boll tier. Or literally made by Uwe Boll.

Attached: 16483820.jpg (400x310, 16K)

FYI, the full song for that trailer was finally uploaded to youtube. It got put in the soundtrack for some fantasy movie.

youtube.com/watch?v=56cnOkQFRwo

i played Halo again with some old friends the other day, shit was great and lots of laughs
Too bad one guy kept complaining that we weren't playing with skill in mind, cried that we keep taking cover, attacking from above/behind and using map weapon pickups to kill each other.
I don't know what was his problem, did he want us all to meet at the center of the map for pistol duels?

Attached: alt right.png (1086x609, 762K)

yeah I got halo 3 at midnight release with my best bud

Damn, pretty shit movie to tie it with.

The hype for Halo 2 was unreal. I was in 10th grade when it came out, and basically everyone skipped school that day to play it. Halo 3 also had a lot of hype, but wasn't the same and not on the same level. There hasn't been a comparable release since.

Halo 3 fucking decimated Halo 2's launch dude.

Don't 'dude' me

I always felt like the hate for 343 was a little much, but I remember the times H3 was coming out and all it was was excitement for something people loved, and advertisements that some fucking soul in it and respect in it.
The 343 ones just un-ironically are missing the soul of "FUCK YEAH! HALO!"

I never really hated 343. I always wanted them to make a game that was great and worthy to put on the shelf next to 1 - Reach, but they just aren't made from the same cloth.
I really really do hope they get it right with Infinite. My expectations are nil, but I want to believe.

Attached: F U C K.png (1536x1152, 2.93M)

It was, Bungie managed to capture two hueg populations: Nerds and dude bros.

I didn't get to experience Halo 2's online, but the early-mid era of Halo 3 was the greatest for online multiplayer for me. I wish the magic would come back.

Halo has like 3 elements to it, and Halo puritans will bitch because you're using 2 of them.

They're still angry over Halo Reach because they made the decision to give the game classes instead of having everybody be exactly the same.
And the "classes" were literally the ability to jump higher or the ability to go invincible for 3 seconds. It wasn't exactly TF2.

Attached: MV5BMjhlOTFhYWItZTczMi00MDhhLWJmNTUtZmMzMWRiZjIwNTA4XkEyXkFqcGdeQXVyNjUwNzk3NDc@._V1_.jpg (421x627, 45K)

is he still your best bud?

This is utterly ridiculous. I've never seen a piece of media receive this kind of promotion before, it's unthinkable.

I loved seeing half my classmates at the mall with my group of friends waiting as well. Weird part is none of the mall security really questioned anything about all the young people there for release that day.

God damn I miss those days of playing that game all day and night, then having lan parties with it over several weekends.

Attached: 6663.jpg (458x674, 59K)

it was effectively wrapped up with a strong finish and a quality prequel-sequel. It was brought back too early, and for too little of a reason. Halo 4 should be coming out around now, because there'd be reason for a scifi mascot shooter with a heavy focus on story and world building/co-op campaign and multiplayer (whether you like it or not, almost nothing out there currently plays like halo does/did besides maybe halo 4/5)
it's more like they just failed to live up to expectations for everything after 3. 343 can turn it around with infinite/MCC on steam, but they'd need a breath of the wild-level critical reception for infinite to really wash the stain away.
a series that REALLY got fucking assassinated by it's owners is mass effect. holy shit that IP went from pure gold to garbage in a quarter of a generation

Attached: 1553225723982.gif (540x360, 780K)

It's amazing.

You're delusional if you think anyone actually cares about Smash or that there has been anyone hype for that since series in over a decade, let alone that it has anything in common with the hype that surrounded Halo 2 and 3.

youtu.be/rtN8WMSxJZ0?t=113

Not really. It sold well, yeah, but the hype was not there in the same way. Not even close. And if you think so, then you were obviously too young to even know. Halo 2 was a cultural moment unlike any the video game industry has seen since. Which sounds insane considering how much bigger it has gotten, but no single game has ever recaptured that amount of hype. Not even a meme like Fortnite.

the marketing around Halo 3 was straight up kino. the people who worked on it legitimately deserved awards. If only the Halo movie happened instead of district 9.

343's biggest mistake was and will always will be bringing back the Master Chief and Cortana. Their story was done, they had their perfect ambiguous ending that kept them well away from any possible future events. Bringing back the Chief opened them up to huge backlash by effectively fucking with his personality as well as dumping him into such a shit story with Halo 3. With a new Spartan it would have at least been eased a little by keeping that taint away from the biggest Xbox mascot around.

Halo 3 was literally the most popular FPS in the world at the time.

Attached: 1553133265515.jpg (650x835, 204K)

Halo 3 had far more marketing, general hype and it larger turnouts to midnight launches. How was it "not even close"?

youtube.com/watch?v=ecQh_lwdsmc

the bizarre thing is that we played Halo Reach but almost always on Classic Slayer, so nearly every game changing feature of Reach was turned off, minus one bullshit round where we turned on random weapon loadouts
Hell he was still convinced that we were trash and he proved his point earlier that he was better than us all even though he lost, even when we switched the gamemode to SWAT to really see who's better (that gamemode is really more about who knows not to spray and pray like a maniac, i don't see how anyone can like that gamemode in large doses)

it was moreso very strange to not only bring them both back, but to shit on both of them, MC being mocked and Cortana turning evil, it felt more like an attempt to disgrace them both.

youtube.com/watch?v=tuRvqbNWwz4

Was it kino?

*Halo 4

Yeah, it felt like change for the sake of change.

>mfw my history teacher was in the Best Buy line with a bunch of us to buy it that day too

I remember re-watching these constantly on my xbox

It's hard to explain or believe but the world in 2004 was vastly different from the way it was in 2007 just three years later. The gaming industry was more far more saturated and midnight launches were basically a standard. The hype and momentum behind Halo 2 was unprecedented at the time which was why it was more impactful than the hype behind Halo 3.

I keep hearing this repeated rumor that the Rookie from ODST was actually going to become the new main character of the franchise, but Microsoft didn't think they could sell the character and pushed for Chief to return.

You weren't there.

Same thing when any new studio gets a hold of an old studios characters, they demonize and shame the old while making the new look great.

>all this absolute kino
>we will never EVER get the movie that was supposed to be made from these
>even if we do, it will NEVER be this good and would be forced full of politics
I'm happy we got some of the best trailers known to any video game ever but

GOD

DAMN IT

Attached: j6IzcmI.gif (404x347, 1003K)

IMHO, Halo 2 invented the concept of the AAA game. It was the first midnight launch I ever went to, and I was absolutely sucked in by the spectacle and thrill of the marketing. It was the first mega-game that seemed to breach its way into being a cultural event, and it really tried to push the boundries of gaming into the mainstream.

Halo was a huge deal.

>imagine buying the fruit of your loins a plastic nigger
God white people just ask to go extinct 90% of the time I swear

Attached: 1553345462840.jpg (236x321, 12K)

>ywn have sleepovers with your friends and play halo all night anymore
;_;

Oh yeah the Rookie. RIP good buddy. 343 killed him off in cold blood.

Attached: 1514601129658.jpg (604x526, 32K)

honestly surprising that wallstreet gave a fuck considering the size of gaming at the time. nowadays i could see it though

Giving classes at the beginning, lower movement speed, sprinting, weapons losing accuracy were stepping stones for halo to go full cowadudy.

People were quite literally shitting their pants at the idea of playing Halo online. XBL was already out and there were some games but I think it's safe to say none of them turned out to be classics.

It was money, user.

>

Attached: OH NO NO NO.jpg (1280x1024, 97K)

I remember playing halo 2 on 3 split screen with my brothers almost evrey night. The halo 3 lauch was insane and there will never be another retail game lauch like it.

Attached: f4effcdd243920b-a-nw-p.jpg (744x728, 91K)

I like how this is for an american game but the people in the video are speaking Hungarian.
Not even shitting on it, I think that's fucking awesome. Really shows that the UNSC is comprised of everyone.

The best part is that so many in two of my classes missed school that day, that the ones that did go ended up getting free period for both classes.

Still, it was fun playing through all of Halo 1 with everyone the night before and then slogging through the early morning trying to kill time between "Leaving" for school and the mall opening. I wouldn't replace those days for anything.

Attached: 35.gif (1216x684, 1.96M)

youtube.com/watch?v=XZd9n373vf4

sc2 was reallllllly hyped before it dropped.

not really at the time

The only Xbox Live games that mattered back then at all and had a lasting impact were Halo 2, Splinter Cell Pandora Tomorrow/Chaos Theory, Star Wars Battlefront 1/2, and MechAssault 2.

The thought about people asking if Halo was a big deal is fucking wild. It didn't seem that long ago, bros...

Attached: 1543548734714.png (357x657, 334K)

Now that you mention it, Splinter Cell was pretty great. Don't remember if it was before or after Halo 2.

Don't be afraid to ask such questions, young one

it was fucking massive. it got people to buy xbox's all the fucking time and consumed literally every 360 owners weekend if they weren't fags

You couldn't go to literally anywhere on the internet without seeing hype for it, and the TV adverts are still fucking cool. delving into its advertisement is a great bit of fun since people started realizing games could be mass-marketed, as said by another user

the fact that it's coming to PC is something you should dive into, I'm just gonna imagine you've never played it at its peak and want to w/o an xbone, just buy it on release and play customs

it was being compared to Quake

in three years, kids born after the Halo 2 launch will legally be allowed to vote, smoke pot, and post on Yea Forums.

it's the exact reason why the xbox was even a success at all and why Microsoft has a console division in the first place

thinking about it
was H2 the first midnight launch for a GAME?
i know systems had midnight launches, but have singular games before H2?

The hungarian instructor was an actual instructor.

Halo 4 did have a lot of hype, Halo 5 did too but MCC kind of ruined Halo 5's hype along with the no split screen announcement, Locke was also killing the hype since no one wanted to play him.

>343's biggest mistake was and will always will be bringing back the Master Chief
Bungie tried it first, and way back before ODST. They tested the waters with Arbiter and they understood most of them only wanted to play with master chef.
Arbiter is a tip top tier character

in north america yeah. The rest of the world didn't care because they primarily play on PC and have good FPS games to play

I remember when we joked about how underage kids were going to reminisce about gaylo when they reached their 20s.
I'm not laughing anymore

Attached: 1363826319806.jpg (649x638, 68K)

fuck, I would have loved an Arbiter game. There's so much potential there.

>mfw you've completely enthralled your western audience's sentiments so you can forget about that and finally submit to japan's clear superiorty in electronic sport narratives

>all these interviews believing the Chief/the savior of humanity is dead/missing being nullified by Halo 4 and 5
made less impact now in hindsight

Attached: 1552793457413.jpg (800x800, 39K)

I can't remember if GTA San Andreas had one too or not since they came out within weeks of each other, but if not then it was.

the same thing's going to happen to fortnite, pa

Halo was Microsoft's killer app and Master Chief was the face of Halo and Xbox, you don't kill your face unless you want to kill your series.

Bringing back the Chief killed it anyway. Halo 4 and 5 didn't even beat Reach's sales numbers.

I think rockstar had one for San Andreas

It didn't scare me enough then. It does now.

Counter Strike was like #2 up until the end. There was also Ghost Recon 2 and Battlefield 2 Modern Combat. Far Cry Instincts let you create your own levels and modes and it functioned like a PC game where you join a game and it downloads the map to your hard drive.

Brothers in Arms, all those racing games, sports games were online, America's Army. It had an enhanced port of Operation Flashpoint. The only true milsim game on console.

Attached: 136120040821_155248_0_big.jpg (760x469, 137K)

That's because he was only gone for 4 years.
Imagine if he was gone for the same amount of time the Spirit of Fire was gone?

Both MS and sony are against having mascots unlike nintendo, people just put halo/master chief as MS's mascot because halo is the only MS franchise to go HUGE

T H E I N N E R S P H E R E

I will never understand why they had to have Marines and convenient Covenant Rebels find that fucking planet as well. A Game with Cheif exploring an alien world by himself would have been top tier for a revival.

>Spirit of Fire
Fuck was that the ship from Halo Wars?
Whatever happened in 2?

>That's because he was only gone for 4 years.
Chief had been missing for forty years in those trailers. How long was the SoF missing?

I was there on Xbox Live 1.0 launch. It was glorious, unlike anything else up until that point. There were shitload of fun games from start to finish though. MechAssault 1, Whacked!, all the Tom Clancy games(Ghost Recon, Rainbow Six 3, Splinter Cell) and much more.

When Halo 2 hit, there was a major update to the ENTIRE FUCKING ARCHITECTURE OF XBOX LIVE. W went from having Friend Lists and nothing else to Chat Rooms, Matchmaking, profiles, and much more.

Did you ever hold a copy of Halo 2? If you do, open it up and check out the manual. Even the manual was kino.

Attached: 1539661217391.png (781x739, 595K)

In Halo Wars 2, the Spirit of Fire is declared lost with all hands but was adrift for 28 years, with everyone in cryosleep until Serina woke them up, where they find themselves
next to Installation 00/the Ark from Halo 3.

>Halo 2 regular manual described the story and weapons from a UNSC perspective
>Collectors Edition described the story and weapons from a Covenant perspective

Attached: 1553200165251.jpg (550x606, 46K)

Did we ever top this?

Attached: 411AFZZNXYL._SY445_.jpg (255x445, 16K)

>Even the manual was kino.
>The collectors edition was from the covenant perspective
why can't vidya be fun anymore

>from the covenant perspective. I want to read these.

I can't answer for much since I've only heard passing remarks about the game, but I can tell you that they're focusing on giving other species some attention character wise, there's a Lekgolo commander called Colony who introduced a lot of Lekgolo concepts and Yapyap who is a semi canon lord among Grunts

This is a good thread.

Attached: 2340T.jpg (1000x1000, 151K)

It's THE game that put online consoles (a.k.a. a wide fucking margin of people, t. PCmustardrice) on the map, hell even just for local it was big too. Everybody at school wouldn't stop talking about it, it was the go-to game to play with friends.

I didn't get into fully appreciating it until sometime into my Gears days, but its hayday certainly not hard to miss.

it fucking was

Isn't Yapyap from one of the books? Wasn't he in either The Flood or in one of the other books where he was a Deacon?

Wait, really? I didn't know that. I will try to snag a copy.

Is Halo Wars good?

Halo 5 marketing campaign was pretty hype with the whole Chief gone rogue and Locke hunting him and stuff

then the game came out and had nothing closely related to this

15 years and I never fucking knew this.
Doesn't help that I never got my hands on a Collector's Ed Halo 2

Sorry you missed out on a fun game because you were too busy being contrarian and disliking the popular thing. It will happen with Fortnight, but that’s life.

halo.fandom.com/wiki/Halo_2_Limited_Collector's_Edition_Manual

A little tidbit but everything is in that link.

>Great Council: Human weapons are primitive, mostly chemical and projectile in nature, but some are effective nonetheless. Our reliance on and expectation of energy based weapons means that we may need to adjust our strategy when faced with the humans' devices. However, the simplistic nature of human weapons makes them open to analysis. Covenant weapons are always superior, but when faced with a choice of wielding no weapon or a human weapon, our forces should acquire the nearest weapon at hand - even if human. A basic understanding of how these primitive weapons work is important so that we may use these weapons to our advantage.

halo 3 collectors was the peak though i generally go for perfect sleekness like halo 2's

I WANT TO GO BACK

No because pokemania was global. Only Americans cared about Halo.

It would be shame if 343fags showed up to defend H5's shitty CoDified mechanics, along the Reach hater and that one furfag who spams terrible art commissions

Attached: 1552271245449.jpg (5751x3204, 2.03M)

It was huge but not that huge

no, pubg/fortnite are. PUBG and pokemon R/B/G were around 30 million sales, fortnite even bigger. Halo never hit half of that

peak vidya kino

>Is Halo Wars good?
Not really? It was pretty busted and I was more into it as a storyfag. Strong 6/10 for me personally.
I've only play the original on my 360.limited edition with the steelbook.

Attached: 1428255017770.png (1190x896, 407K)

Yapyap got mentioned like once in Halo random dialogue as a random grunt name, I think you're thinking of Dadab who was a Grunt Deacon on Harvest

This was like heaven

also I think Atroix is a bit of a mary sue, or rather his army, The Banished, are
I can get behind an impossibly tough and smart Brute who rebelled against the Covenant in its hayday, but to manage to direct as much attention as Humanity? doesn't work very well imo

Oh no, so tragic people remember a good game fondly

Bungie should make the next one. 343i killed the series.

Was there ever any example of Hunter poetry?

youtube.com/watch?v=bat1QaCtDhY

Attached: 1445707325092.png (1001x823, 806K)

The Banished are a cool concept, they expand on Covenant society, but by existing they undermine the struggle of the UNSC. It turns out that the entire war was basically just a sidenote to the Covenant, who were already undergoing a civil war and barely paying us any attention. The explanation for how they came into being also makes no sense. A Brute got sick of the Prophets' shit and lead a rebellion, taking an untold number of willing followers with him, many of them Brutes. How did that itself not cause the Great Schism? Truth decided to have the Elites murdered because he didn't want them learning that their religion was a lie and getting any bright ideas about not having to follow the Prophets. You have that exact scenario, a bunch of Covies deciding "Hey, we don't have to listen to these shitheads that don't care about us," and yet the Brutes weren't punished? No Prophet or Elite would ever trust a Brute again after that. The Brutes wouldn't even want to continue being in the Covenant, since their biggest baddest Alpha Chad chieftain told the Prophets to fuck off and got away with it.

Dabdab was a good boy. He fucking killed those bugs to avenge his balloon friend. He also blew up the Brute ship, didn't he?

It's very RTS-lite. It had to, to work on console with a controller.
It has next to no complexity to it at all and lacking many features PC strategy games have standardized for 2 decades. The campaign is ok, with neat Blur cutscenes and a decent plot. The soundtrack is great and top comfy, as expected from Stephen Rippy. I don't regret playing through it various times or doing skirmish matches with friends, but you exhaust everything there is to do with the game pretty quickly.

God bless Marty. Can't believe he makes music for no-name indie games now since he got canned from Destiny.

God I wish H2 had more story in it. I was actually pretty invested in it. More so than 4 or 5.

Well they're going back to the classic Halo aesthetic with Infinite, so we should be good.

I thought the Elites from HW were too fucking large. Halo 2 and 3s look the best. H2A's Elites in the blur cutscenes are Kino

Yayap was the grunt on the original Halo ring from The Flood novel. He was going to flee with some methane tanks and live out his last days when MC detonated the Autumn.

They eclipsed Reach's sales number, stop using VGChartz as a source. Halo Reach started off with strong sales at launch but that died off quick in the next year with it only selling 5 million in the US compared to Halo 3 selling 8 million in its first year in the US and Halo 4 selling more than that in its first year. Reach only reached 7 million worldwide sales.

Not gonna lie. For us campaignfags who didn't care about multiplayer, Halo 2 was like the Episode 1 shoah all over again. So disappointing.

9.8 million for Reach, with 4 selling 9.7 and 5's numbers cutting off at 5 million with no more records for some reason.

I looked up The free halo 2 tattoos that they did and i came up dry. Halo 2 was a big stupid thing.

Windows 7 too, with Windows 8 support being looked into last i checked

The people who made these games used to care.

>Halo literally abandoned its gameplay to adopt CoD traits

Yes but where is the trans representation?

Fuck that Halo3 Collector shit. I was so happy when I got it for christmas but down the line I ended up having to buy the game again because the disc would often come loose in that metal case and it ended up getting scratched.

It comes full circle. Lmao 2 weapons

>I know how important the series to the ruining of the gameplay of the fps genre
So you're dumb and believe everything Yea Forums parrots. Nothing happened to the fps genre other than people got bored of it because it's stagnant. The big FPS games are in the hands of EA, Activision, Ubisoft, Valve. Must have been Halo's fault though. The shooter crowd is playing butt royale games now. Must be Halo's fault.

Gravemind is now also better known as the fish in American Dad

this site its for +18 you know right?

As a Hungarian I was so happy when this came out, proud to speak space language

The dev commentary from H3 collectors was pretty comfy.

To know how big Halo was 2005-2009ish you had to live through it.

It was a really special time

>REEEEE NO NO NO WE NEED TO SELL XBOX AND XBOX LIVE
And now that Halo is too dog shit to sell Xbox anymore we are seeing PC releases slated for even mainline games like Halo Infinity.

>tfw the covenant POV manual talked about a new unseen super-alien called a sharquol that would be unleashed on the UNSC soon
>Bungee/343 Never did anything with it

Was that not the ship the heretic boss had on the mining station?

Doom clones were stagnant too.

Yeah, 343i already stated the Xbox Halo fanbase is bigger, you living a pipe dream if you honestly think Halo Infinite will be played more on PC, if it's not on Steam it might as well not exist, it will sell more than Halo 5 probably even close to Halo 3 and 4 numbers but that will be on Xbox and mostly played on the Xbox One and Xbox Scarlett.

I really don't get why everyone is so crazy over battle royales

I didn't say PC fan-base was bigger, I said Halo isn't popular enough anymore to sell the console by itself.

Also, console RTS are fucking stupid.

H2A, Halo 3, and reach have the best elites. H2A is the epitome of the classic design while reach has the most deadly looking elites.

This. Original Bungie seemed to be the perfect blend of people who were all dedicated and collectively passionate about their product.

I remember seeing these creatures in a halo video once. I think it was from an old, OLD pre-Halo 1 video.
You played as the Marines in the third Person.

>ywn go back to the days when everyone played arena shooters
It's sad that Call of Duty came along and grabbed everyone's attention with their killstreaks and their bullshit carrot on a stick progression system. Halo is of course just a slower Unreal/Quake with vehicles but I could at least have fun with my normalfag friends on Halo back then. Never could get into Call of Duty, gameplay always felt too shallow to me.

I've always found the halo games to be boring as fuck with intensely disinteresting stories, and have always hated the over reliance on cutscenes. Also the music is bad and it is overall just a really bland FPS, especially compared to its contemporaries on PC at the time.

It's funny because Halo Wars plays quite good.

None of my friends want to play arena shooters and have talked shit about them but they remain somewhat interested in the Master Chief Collection on PC.

The internet really did fuck our culture up. You can see the nice easy transition of everything all the way up until the late 00s then everything went to shit.

This is bait.

What's a more interesting shooter with a better story that came out on PC when Halo came out?

Not marines just early chief. Though back then they were calling them commandos or something IIRC.

Attached: Masterchief_sheik.png (268x372, 76K)

Half Life 1, Deus Ex, and System Shock 2 come to mind. Halo's story is mediocre, trope ridden science fiction only gobbled up because it was blazing a new trail and was countless normies' first taste of storytelling in video games, and more generally FPSes on console.

Hey I didn't say it wouldn't be better on PC, i'm just saying for an RTS it plays quite good for what it's on.
It's on PC now an plays 5 times better, but it's obvious that it was made for console because of how slow it is.

Isn't that most video games?

It made me very happy to know they also remastered that scene in H2A.
youtube.com/watch?v=GYDklklJYog&t=1s

no no, it was specifically marines. I remember seeing the original concept footage, but what i saw looked like Halo as it is now but you played as those marines and those creatures were there.

Yes, but that doesn't somehow excuse halo for doing it just because the rest of its medium is so unbelievably mediocre.

Play multiplayer, that's what everyone actually likes the game for.

And yet none of those game created a franchise like Halo did. Is standing around in a room listening to people say expository dialogue really so much better than cinematics? At least there was a Halo 3.

Half-Life 1 is just as generic, System Shock 2 is trash with a fucking awful ending (thanks Ken Levine), and Deus Ex is intentional conspiracy schlock only memorable because of the amount of ways the player can play around with the narrative. I'm not saying Halo 2 is better or even particularly good, but you're fucking kidding yourself if you think any of those games are better in the plot department.

Yes, it was gigantic

Evidently Halo was better than average so what exactly is your complaint?

Good
So we agree that we're both on Yea Forums for no reason then

It's not bait, I even went as far as modding my 360 to play burned discs and buying an RGB cable to "experience" the infamous Halo everyone talks about and honestly it was just boring. It's not a bad game, just painfully mediocre.

I hope MCC on PC is good bros.
I really fucking do. The good times might come back for a little while.
Maybe good things do happen sometimes.

Yes, many people I knew in school at the time skipped for it's release day to play it.

Joke's on you, I barely leave my room.

I was talking about Infinite, I said nothing about Halo Wars.

>all this effort for one game

That's not how it works. Everyone knows John as Master Chief.

Yes. I waited in line for 12 hours to get Halo 2 on midnight release. It was legendary. First game in the series with online multiplayer (on xbox at least, not counting CE).

Imagine my disappointment.

You could do Xlink Kai or XBConnect for LAN matches over your internet connection.

It's like going to an OoT thread and sperging out that it wasn't the 20/10 game that I was literally promised

Halo was always best enjoyed with friends.

I know I've hotglued my Halo 2 CE tin at least a hundred times.

user you know the exact same fucking thing happened to me? I was told it was the best game of all time and while it's overall pretty unoffensive I just found it to be boring. ALTTP kicks its ass so fucking hard.

Yeah I kinda figured you probably combed through a list of supposedly best games just to complain about them

>just to complain about them
What gave you that idea? I saw a thread about Halo and decided to chime in my two cents. Posting criticism about a game does not mean you obsess over it and the fact that you apparently don't realize that makes me wonder how pathetically juvenile you must be.

man game launches used to be such a big deal. it was so weird how i went to my local target for to buy rdr2 at 9pm the night it came out and no one was there.

there wouldn't be an xbox one today if microsoft hadn't picked up halo.

>sipping on dew while playing with bros
Even when it comes back for PC it won't be the same

How is it going to be sold on PC? From what I understand you're going to have to buy each game separately, but I've also heard stuff about certain multiplayer modes being either free to play or sold as DLC.
I'm not even a Halo fan, but I'm going to be getting it on day one just because pretty much every other multiplayer shooter on PC rubs me the wrong way. They're all either one-hit-and-you're dead pseudo-milsims, esports-bait hero shooters, or clones of retro games where the community is made entirely of 90s veterans who will kick your ass without even trying. I just want to join a server and shoot some dudes for a hour or so at the end of the day, like old times.

This shit was so fucking good. I unironically embraced my Dorito Pope.

Bungie has a thing for Hungary.

Jorge in Reach spoke Hungarian

KH3 was also 27 years and 15 spinoffs after KH2.

My guess is you can pay one price for all of it or pick and choose what you want if you only like certain games.

I was watching a video on Halo last night and the guy was saying Halo 3 was even bigger than Fortnite but I was alive then and I can't honestly say I agree with him. Halo was extremely big yeah but I think Fortnite's popularity eclipses peak Halo popularity which was between Halo 2-3 up until about 2009 or maybe 2010. Reach did very well too but by then Halo was definitely losing steam thanks to COD and Modern Warfare eventually beating out Halo. It took until MW2 though until COD finally definitively dethroned Halo.

What I've seen from Fortnite though makes most of this shit look small in comparison tbqh. Its like Pokemon gen 1 levels of fame. Halo and COD had a lot of sustained popularity but never peaks that big imo.

>despite his incredible fame master chief only had fighter cameo in his career, and it wasn't really even him
what the fuck

What validation could I possibly be looking to get from Yea Forums of all places nigger, I hate all of you.

Kinda, local stores did midnight launches, but Halo 2 made midnight launches more mainstream & the big companies like gamestop jumped on the train

Absolutely. I remember being in grade 6 when Halo 2 releases and it was THEE big event. No other game even came close. Then Halo 3 came out and the hype was massive, all media outlets were covering the hype and release of the game and back in 2007 that was a big deal. I remember the line for Halo 3 at Best Buy was around the corner. Good times. Comfy times waiting in line with fellow gamers, everyone was excited and optimistic compared to today’s gamers. Zoomers will never know the feeling of waiting in line for a game like that.

I think you're the delusional one my friend.
Smash Bros. Brawl is literally the most hyped game release of all time.

I worked at Toys R Us a few years back and it was so depressing the amount of just pure garbage they tried to sell.

Reach had a lot of Hungarians colonize it, ODST boot was likely held there and it's also why Jorge (SIIs were raised on Reach, Jorge was even born there) speaks the language.

I wish Reach was smoother to play cause the aesthetic is so damn good. But something about it just felt so clunky compared to the previous games.

Yeah 2 was huge and 3 was even bigger. My buddy blew blood vessels in both his eyes when 3 came out

Halo 3 had massive widespread appeal, including among normies
KH3 appeals only to JRPG autists and Disney freaks

What changed?

Attached: 1375324030501.jpg (250x326, 10K)

Reach was trash because they added powers without thinking about how they broke the flow of combat. Armor lock made a formerly fairly high octane and fast (for consoles) shooter hit a speed bump and grind to a halt for no reason. Sprint was retarded. Jetpacks slowed everyone down and made them easy targets. It was just bad.

Everyone wants to go back to the simple good times.

I'd say they left the board but no one ever leaves this place.

Yeah but even when I played gametypes without armor abilities it still just felt weirdly slow and stiff.

Armor lock was an easy kill if they didn't have competent team mates around them. Also lol at you complaining about slowing the game down AND sprint.

Of course you do
Here, have welfare (You)s

I forgot, criticism of any kind is a personal attack to you manchildren. I'm out of this dump.

It also made assassinations viable and that's all I wanted to do

What happened to him? Why'd it happen?

I mean, it's pretty obvious that Reach was trying to emulate CoD, there is no other excuse for it to take good map designs, fun arena shooter combat, and fair and balanced weapons and turn the game into sprinting loadout based shitty guns on shitty balanced maps. Reach sucked because it couldn't even commit to being a CoD knock off either.

Call of Duty Modern Warfare, specifically

The date, by nearly ten years.

Something is bothering me, it's gonna be April 1th in six days, so that means April fools, and they are "releasing" Halo on Pc..

Halo 2 is the only game I have ever booked time off work to play.

Or attended a midnight launch to get it. (though that is also due to being from a small place where midnight launches just don't happen 99.99% of the time)

So, yeah. It really was a *big* *deal* to lots of people.

Till they killed off the feel of the game, and the connection people felt to the main character.

Because when making Halo 5, they hadn't realized that the Master Chief was the main character, apparently. (yes that is what they have claimed)

I've been a pcfag+halofag since I found this site in late 2006. we have always been in the shadows since 2007, waiting for our time

>moving the goalposts

Instead, you're a casual shitter.

I guess you win this scholastic debate about Halo.

yes zoomer, it was

Halo is already pretty slow though, there's a delicate balance you have to strike between the movement speed and TTK to keep the gameplay flowing at a good pace. Sprint fucks up that balance.

>they hadn't realized that the Master Chief was the main character
Complete bullshit. Their vidocs on making Halo 4 they're all so fucking adamant on how to "humanize" MC and give him greater meaning in their universe.
It was just a bad fucking decision to think Halo is just a platform that you can change variables to make it not-Halo and still sell it entirely just by name.

Yes I am and I'm proud of it you fucking worthless "I have to brag about how serious I take video games" waste of space. I'm going to be DMR'ing shitheads like you in a few months and sprinting up to you to stab you in the fucking dick. Get used to it.

Incidentally Halo is peak zoomercore

i like halo but timesplitters 2 and 3 were the better console fps

I remember the line outside of gamestop on launch night was about 200 people in my city. I think only Halo 3 and Modern Warfare 2 rivaled it.

>mfw Microsoft held a death grip on normies and let it go for kinect.

They wanted to replace MC with a stronk black male, his Buck cuck, and two stronk dykes, and at the last minute added MC back in because they realized nobody would fucking buy their piece of shit otherwise.

It might be a "parody" but this is how I fucking felt when Halo 2, 3, ODST, and Reach all released.

To put things into perspective, the Playstation 2 is the best selling video game console of all time. The very fact that Microsoft was able to break into the gaming industry during its reign says a LOT about how popular Halo was. There's a very real chance it would have gone the way of the Dreamcast without Halo.

Nah CoD4 and MW2 were already shaking that hold. MAYBE they could have held on longer if they had immediately done Halo 4 instead of Reach but Bungie didn't want to do another sequel.

Do you frequently get into super serious internet debates about products you have no intention of buying? Isn't that kind of retarded?

Yes, I like to talk about video games.

weird the boomers didn't destroy it with >muh babbiest first fps

I think JRPGs are stupid I don't go into JRPG threads and talk about how I think they should be made.

General consensus is still that it's a horrible fucking game.

That game's older than you, kiddo.

This.

The idea of finally playing games online was mind blowing to me, multiplayer meant inviting 3 friends over but now you’re telling me to can play 8 player matches all day every day? Sign me the fuck up!

All the CoD games had early map access on Xbox 360 for years. They still had that grip.

Okay, well I like Halo.

Why wait in line when you can just order online

I'll never not love and be moved by the Belive diorama add. I loved (and still do on some level) the Halo universe so much and always felt for the Marines fighting by my side and seeing their struggles rendered in such immaculate, gritty detail while Chopin's Raindrop played blew my mind as a kid. I frequently still go back to it and am still emotionally moved.

God it's unfair something like that wasn't in the actual game but I'll still treasure it.

Reach suffered from a poor framerate, as well as excessively motion blur to hide it. It should feel a lot better on PC/Xbone.

I’m pretty sure Halo was not remotely big enough to get Master Chief on official currency.

WHAT THE ACTUALLY FUCK...

343's Halo is a perfect example of the result of trying to fix something that's not broken.

aw man wtf? one of the coolest things about halo is that all the aliens look properly alien

Halo CE came to PC only about a year and a half after it came to Xbox. So I dunno if this is accurate.

so who still maintains contact with his halo squad?

I feel lucky that my friends and I keep playing together after moving to PC, I know all of those stories of

>old Noble 6 tried running out of the ship but died anyway
rare you see stuff like that, it's usually either they do a heroic sacrifice and know they're going to die or make it out just fine, they don't try and fail
I like it

beautiful music

CE is still the coolest. Looks like a motherfucking tank and you can't beat that shiny ass armor. I'll get flack for this but even back in the day I thought the Halo 2 version was too skinny, looked too much like a guy in spandex with some armor strapped to him instead of actual power armor.

Halo 2's writing and dialogue was kino on every level and didn't get anywhere near the appreciation it deserved.
Everything all Covenant characters say is pure sex.

Why do you zoomers ask dumb questions like this and more importantly why do you idiots in this thread take the bait?

Kept in contact with mine. Rooming with one, on VC with the other two as I type this. Feels fucking good. I pity the anons who lost contact with his boys.

No paid online.
Mouse and keyboard support.
It's fixed now.

Halo 3 still outdid the first MW in online for most of their lifespan actually. It wasn't until MW2 where COD truly dethroned Halo for good.

And they STILL cry that Halo ruined FPS.

I still play occasionally with one of my online buddies. I also have a couple IRL friends who I still play with sometimes and I'm lucky in that my brothers and nephews are always down for some casual splitscreen if nothing else.

It's nothing like the Halo 2/3 days though, we had at least 16 regular players back then so we could do full customs or break off into squads for matchmaking.

The part of this post that confuses me most aside from the music statement is "over reliance on cutscenes." No Halo game has that many cutscenes, what a weird thing to say.

Classic MkV is cool af, yes.

Attached: 1552964502924.jpg (1013x1600, 691K)

I spoke about halo 5, you pointed to a vidoc about halo 4.

See how 5 and 4 look like different numbers?

factfiend.com/time-people-making-halo-game-didnt-know-main-character/

The game being ported to PC doesn't negate that statement.

early halo is something zoomers will never understand, it's a lot like early WoW in that sense.

lmao nincels really think this shit?

Hello I'm game made relevant because I had a piece of a more popular game inside of me

>Brother and our friends all game on PS4 now
>Have no one to play Halo with
It's definitely a lonely feeling. I wonder just how many hours I put into Halo 3 and Reach...

People like to pretend that the influx of brown shooters came from Halo and no CoD.

Take me back...

Attached: 1531429342122.png (1920x1200, 1002K)

Why the fuck was the timer so short if they weren't even on the ship yet and apparently running to it on foot?

I was 21 when the first one came out and me and my friends played the fuck out of all of them through Reach.

I played Halo 4 with one of those friends.

I played Halo 5 by myself and lamented what they did to the franchise.

this, desu
i can't think of a single more genius marketing move for this entire franchise than sticking the halo demo in it

it helps that crackdown one was legitimately good too

>People like to pretend that the influx of brown shooters came from Halo and no CoD.
They're the same thing.

And Microsoft. Thinking maybe a lot of you might not realize or remember but back then Japan was still largely THE KINGS of gaming. Outside of games like GTA and Halo the west wasn't really as dominant as what you see now.

Halo 3 and Smash Brawl were definitely the most hyped games ever. Nothing today even comes close.

What a time to be alive.

Attached: 1541824157031.jpg (1600x1200, 493K)

Pokemon was such a massive deal that it transcended being a video game. Like half of the kids who were into it during its peak never even touched the video games. They either just watched the show or collected the cards. That's a big reason things like Minecraft and Fortnite aren't Pokemon-level, despite how wildly popular they are. (calling Halo the early 00s version of pubg isn't completely inaccurate, though)

>got this as a 10 year old for Halo 3 beta
>by the time I had it beta was already over
>played Crackdown instead and it was a very solid and fun game
everything turned out pretty good, shame the sequels sucked

ODST could have been better though. It should have had a more limited form of health regen that doesn't allow full regen. Something like how Killzone 2 did health. They could have also put sprint in this game to differentiate it and plus it would have made more sense anyways that ODST would need to sprint.

even when I was 13 I knew people complaining about a cliffhanger ending were massive retards, there was no way halo 3 wouldnt happen so why did you care where the story stopped, you were going to get more halo, its not like the campaign was short either so the only difference is that you didnt know how chief was gonna pull it off

god i wish this was on PC too along with its slightly less good sequel
it was a blast to play, especially the sand box mode DLC

They loved it because it's good. That image is made irrelevant by the fact that there are kids who never played Halo CE and only played CoD. There are kids that have never played CoD and only played fortnite.

That image is nothing but aged bait now.

What would the industry landscape be like if Halo released as a Mac exclusive like originally planned?

Attached: Halo.jpg (700x525, 131K)

Who loved it? Mexicans who couldn't run anything else?

>Toys “R” Us

Jesus Christ. That hurt more than I thought it would.

mac becomes the big mac and you play all the cool rts games like halo
also gaming dies 3 years after

Attached: 1503687312489.jpg (410x410, 92K)

I didn't call your argument bullshit, but that 343 staff's position on Master Chief is bullshit. They obviously wanted to push a minority/female cast to take the spotlight and renew the franchise for a new public who embraces shoehorned diversity. Also, because it irks them that the one untouchable thing from the franchise is a creation of their predecessors they can never surpass.
Basically I don't buy their "not knowing the Chief's the main character" crap. They indeed underestimate the character's significance in the games, but that's retardation on their part.

It would have just been another game. With no splitscreen, normalfags won't be playing a lot of multiplayer with one another.

Absolutely. It wasn't considered 'My First FPS' by detractors for no reason.

Back then, Bungie at least still had that Marathon blood in them.

>He wasn't around for Japan time

>mac becomes big mac
i wanna see it
thiccmac

If you had been alive back then, you'd notice how everyone and their grandma bitched how Halo was too "colorful" and not realistic brown and grey like CoD, Killzone and Gears of War

Hands down best. Everything about CE felt so good. I loved the fuck out of 2 and 3, never played anything newer (thanks RROD) but CE really felt otherwordly and interesting on a totally different level. I hope the MCC PC ports get some mods to play with the Mark V through each games campaigns.

But Brawl was a complete flop

mhm

>PC gamers complain about Halo killing the FPS genre even though first-person shooters largely stayed the same for a very long time
>And then Modern Warfare happened and everyone in their mother were making games in that style for years
>But only one gets labeled as baby's first shooter and the death of shooters

Attached: 1538393339367.png (245x190, 52K)

nigga, I know you are just shitposting, but people back then were fighting over Halo being too unrealistic when MW2 got traction, why the fuck do you think Reach went with that grounded and rugged theme?

If you're talking sales wise, lmfao.
If you're talking gameplay wise you're absolutely correct. That still doesn't stop it from being a contender for the most hyped game of all time. Twilight Princess ended up only being 'good' despite being heralded as the God's Gift to Mankind before release.

CE couldn't run on toasters at the time, not that you'd know. Since you're just making shit jokes to cover up your lack of focus and knowledge, time to find someone more interesting to talk to.

Attached: 1552681150192.png (571x618, 141K)

ironically the pc gaming crowd cucked themselves into oblivion with mw2, shit was actually hilarious

lol

Halo may not have tainted the genre, but it was still the game everyone and their mother was talking about at the time.

PCboomers are just eternally butthurt that an FPS on a console actually worked for once and made an online FPS experience accessible to secondaries
People forget just how few people had PCs as opposed to consoles and how common it was to think the PCs were for work and internet only
The REAL tragedy for PC was how trashed the internet got once it was more common place in homes

>Japan
another island filled with nincel faggots, so yeah is irrelevant

how could halo kill fps when every new fps after 2009 was marketed as a cod killer

>The one game criticized for having duller colors.
>Out of 7 main releases
>Still more colorful than other contemporary shooters

Attached: 1552619099409.jpg (1920x1080, 274K)

I'm playing Halo CE right now on PC and the marine voices are a mix of american/british/australian/mexican/scottish and some others, its touches that as i was younger i couldn't appreciate as much as i do now

steve jobs would still be alive

I always loved that too. I liked that in Halo 2 and 3 they introduced female and Hispanic marines too.
Though I always wish the games had more black soldiers in them because even though there was Johnson and some other black people there was a lot less than one would expect while the plot is all taking place in Africa.

It was literally the most white dominated game back in its day.

>If all the nations of the world could just unite together, we'd have interstellar space travel and alien waifus

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA

Attached: 1536530710620.jpg (1024x1023, 69K)

I don't remember 3 having the hype 2 did. You couldn't talk about any game other than 2 back in the day. It was alot like the Skyrim craze.

>Smash
What

I I had to take a stab at the reasoning:
>Call of Duty 1 was PC exclusive before the series became multi-platform for the sequel, so it doesn't count as a console exclusive (compare to Halo which was almost entirely console exclusive with the exception of 1 and 2 which were ported much later)
>Call of Duty adopted regen health after Halo made it popular (also adopting the "all regen" model of Halo 2) so it deflects blame in this respect
>an assumption that the Halo audience "graduated" to Call of Duty, ie it's the same casuals but (slightly) older

Overall though I'd say Call of Duty still gets quite a bit of flak, it just doesn't get the "babies first FPS" moniker because it's viewed as a follow-up to what Halo started and not the actual progenitor.

WHERE IS MY FUCKING BETA 343 I WANT IT NOOOOOOOOOOOOOW

seriously though what the fuck are they talking about about having trouble with the interface? just literally add mouse support to the existing menu, it'll be fine

Ahhh
AHHHH
AHHHHHHH

Nah there were a few other darkies I can remember, one was the sergeant dude in the Halo 2 mission with the Scarab (Banks, I remember his name after all these years) and I'm pretty sure there were some Marine and civilian models in Halo 3 that were black.

It's the future, user, nowhere near as many blacks anymore
I kid, Romeo's black, Locke, some police from ODST. My memory might be failing me, but I think there was a black female marine in 2 or 3.
The guy from pic related.

Attached: hqdefault.jpg (480x360, 24K)

>local target
thats because no one goes to target for midnight releases what the fuck. Everyone goes to Gamestop and local game stores

Hispanic marines were on Halo 1, along with australian marines and everyone else, but not that it matters to your dipshits who only think 3 different ethnicity exist.

I have no problem with them when they're in Africa and helping to fight back against the alien invaders as opposed to gang banging and being negligent parents
And yeah I liked having the characters that were there. Really feels like a combined effort from all the world.

Oh shit that's right I forgot Mendoza, disappointed in myself. And relax bro I'm just saying it would've been cool if there was SLIGHTLY more.

Halo was the fortnite of the 00's.

I don't care for this artist's fetish shit but I love how they draw Halo marines
the glowy orange visor is very chic

Most of it was just young/consolefags saying dumb false shit like "Halo invented ____". I also think a lot of it was people hating it for keeping the Xbox alive in its early years when Xbox was seen as an unwanted intrusion in the console world by people suspicious of Microsoft.

They were kinda right, Xbox started DLC as we know it, but it was probably something inevitable with the spread of broadband connections

Halo 2 and San Andreas sales what made the video game industry go mainstream

I only played halo 2 and 3 for the story
The mp was the real star and I always thought the sp was over rated at the time

It was the Fortnite of late 20th century

>music bad
Bait or no, that is a shitty opinion.

>so who still maintains contact with his halo squad?

All of my high school friends who I played Halo with stopped gaming long ago cause pay so much and get so little other than the lack of quality

Attached: 1462597677603.jpg (640x960, 75K)

Popular enough to
>be played by normalfags and chads (we called them dude bros back then)
>be hated by Yea Forums
>dumb down the entire genre
>get insanely good (and likely expensive) commercials
>tons of books, comics, etc

"WOW. What a crappy gun. Thanks!"

And this is worth rhe extra (you) just to explicitly state that the arrangements commissioned from Skywalker ranch are objectively worse with their off key choir.

i feel like those accents were lost in future installments.

I love the in-game light humor.
Everything outside of cutscenes made the NPC marines in 1/3 and Elites in 3 seem like they were just along for the ride.

If H5 did anything right it brought back the somewhat whimsical side of the covenant forces with all the aliens speaking english and hearing grunts say stupid shit. Also Jackals talk now. They are pretty funny.

They make fun of that in the Halo 2 dev commentary, actually. The Aussie is the only one that makes it.

So much for diversity

Yes, Halo 2's hype was unprecedented by anything bar Pokemania, and Halo 3's hype rivalled it. The hype behind Halo 3 cannot be overstated. Even normies were on board the hype train.

I would say that the specific launches of 2 and 3 peaked to where Pokemon was at it's peak, but those were just launches rather then the sustained fervor Pokemon had for multiple years; and that it occupied the sort of "lead game trend" for the early and mid 2000's after pokemon died

late 90s: Pokemon
Early-mid 2000's: Halo
late 2000'-early 10's: CoD
Early-mid 10's": Minecraft
Late 10''s???: Battle royale

I agree, and after Halo 5 due to people bitching about locke (not unwarranted, obviously), 343 doubled down and has said MC will be the absolutely, near exclusive focus of every mainline halo game moving foward forerver, which is retarded

2 and 3 was no different, people forget how misleading their marketing was.

of course, 2 and 3 still had great games in the end. I'll actually defend 5's MP, it's among my favorites in the series, but the campaign is dogshit and that + no splitscreen makes it shit as an overall product

Use halopedia, not the halo wikia/fandom site. The Fandom/wikia site has litterally had an exodus TWICE to halopedia due to the wikia network admins being faggots, litterally everybody who has expierence doing article editing and gives a shit about halo lore uses halopedia

This so much, Doom, Quake, UT etc all had releases after CE and even 2, CoDMW is what caused them to stop

It's not that Locke was a bad character, it's just that we as players are given no incentive to actually care about him. There CAN be Halo games without Master Chief as the main focus, hell ODST and Reach already proved that, it's just that 343 really shit the bed and tried to market Halo 5 as something it wasn't.

>Most hyped game amongst the masses
Halo 3

>Most hyped game amongst the hardcore internet fiends
Smash Brawl

2007/2008 was crazy. You could feel videogames becoming grand.

Doom 3 and Quake 4 were in a totally different style though, taking cinematic cues from Half-Life, and Unreal Tournament 2004 existed as a love letter to UT1999 for fans after Epic totally fucked up on 2003, with UT3 following to be a bastard child for Gears of War.

The last "good" entries for all those series sticking to their classic formulas, UT2k4 the exception, all came out before Halo CE hit the market.

Not disagreeing that Call of Duty was the real problem though.

The 20+ autists on halo 3 online eldawrito beg to disagree

Fpbp

Not him but it's not the case you can't have a Halo game without Master Chief it's the case that if it's a mainline Halo game it better be a Master Chief game while the spin-off stars another character.

It had the largest marketing budget of any videogame ever for many years.

It feels good. Coming back... it feels good. I was a 360kiddy in my high school years. Grew into a PC user. And now I'm reuniting with Halo. It feels so good.

I just read a recent interview with an El Dewrito dev that they have over 540,000 unique players and their success prompted 343i to contact THEM to be educated on the interest for Halo PC, which is why Microsoft finally greenlit the MCC port now.

I WANT TO GO BACK

Talking about great Halo trailers this one is underrated.

This was a GOOD thread!
A GOOD thread where we talked about video games! Good job Yea Forums! I love you!

DEEPEST LORE
Nah, since Reach it had been going downhill. That shit was just MS flaunting the rotten carcass on our screens for the amusement of zoomers

You have to be 18 to post here

343i turned Bungie's work to shit and now people want to reverse engineer the PC port and mod it to fix everything.

5 has legtimately good gameplay, weapon balance, MP, and forge

it's a shame everything else in it is dogshit and that MP has no splitscreen

Zoomers don't play halo
Most of them and gen alpha don't even know what the fuck it is and think it's boring

I miss pre-Destiny Bungie

I never liked Halo, but the people behind the commercials were good at their job.
youtube.com/watch?v=2bZjbKnGcSo

Halo had crazy weapons and quick movement. Also vehicles, cool music and cool lore.

Short term brining them back makes sense since he is the face of Halo. Long term it’s dumb because you won’t ever match the same levels of old hype by using a character with a finished story.

Guess what, In a few years it will be COD and then Fortnite.

This is why most of the old fags ran off to 8ch.

Hungarian actors, Welsh music. It's all about the humanity, RIP old Halo.

Crackdown 2 was absolute trash. 1 however was a hidden gem of a game. I ended up liking it more than the Halo 3 beta personally. Co-op was choice. 3 looks fun with friends.

You're thinking of the 2000 E3 trailer.

youtube.com/watch?v=dR3Hm8scbEw

even more atmospheric whiteout the music.

343 tried way too hard to copy Crysis.

The halo games are based on the Bible. The only way a halo 4 would make sense is if they based it on the Book of Mormon and had Masterchief to to that new planet by himself and save a group of aliens and the galaxy without anyone else knowing.
