Was it really a coin toss?
Was it really a coin toss?
The entire game has one main flaw:
No one is that retarded.
Simon isn't that stupid.
No person on earth is presented with the idea of cloning, as in, copying and pasting, and keeps not understanding it ans is duped over and over and OVER into this fake idea that "no brah only one of the two will be you, it's a coin toss lel".
This plot point is retarded, unnecessary, makes Simon look like a braindead moron, and could've easily been tackled in a better, smarter way if they only spent more time on the fucking writing instead of wasting dev time on pekaboo mechanics no one gives TWO FUCKS about because this kind of gimmick stopped being engaging all the way back in Penumbra.
You want to me a story focused walking simulator, faggots.
Then man up and do it.
Just do it.
Add puzzles so it's not 100% a walking simulator, but it's clear that the "stealth" aspects are absolutely luaghable at this point.
Double down on the writing instead.
Who cares, go all in.
There is no coin toss. She lied to you because she knew you're a retard.
Every duplicate is left behind, the gameplay switched perspectives to the new clone for immersion reasons.
>No one is that retarded.
This thread has happened numerous times, and many people believed in the coin toss.
No, because the one who activates the machine always gets left behind and the new person is just that, a new person. If you cloned yourself theres no 50/50 chance you'd end up one of the clones, you'd still be where you are and the clone would still be where it is.
THERE IS NO FUCKING COIN TOSS REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE
More importantly
Wheres their next game
Development of SOMA took 5 years (started in 2010, got released in 2015).
It went trough basically a complete rewrite of the sequence of events in the game, the setting, there was an engine switch etc.
Essentially wait for at least 1 more year, minimum.
I think you misunderstood the game. It's about the fact that human will invent a fairytale so that he doesn't have to face the reality. That's what Simon is doing. Also you are a hero typing all of this from the comfort of your chair but try to empathize with the protag for a second. Imagine you sit in a chair and find yourself 200 years in the future, learn that the world has basically ended in an apocalyptic catastrophe and the underwater facility you are in is breaking apart, but also that you are in a robot (cyborg) body. Even if you are a John von fucking Neumann you would probably have a hard time taking it all in in just a few hours and not lie to yourself even if a part of you would still know well that you are just bullshitting yourself. Just from the dialogue alone it's obvious Simon is very desperate and scared and refuses to accept his fate.
>No one is that retarded
>Simon isn't that stupid
Simon is an extremely basic brain scan that amounts to a .txt file.
Simon lied to himself she just went with it because she was afraid of the ark not being launched
Simon is basically lying to himself and is in denial.
If he's aware, but in denial, then the writing should've conveyed that better.
As it currently stands, the writing just makes it seem like he's literally actually dumb, instead of in denial.
I thought the coin toss was a metaphor she used to try and explain it because Simon has brain damage.
No, it was a bedtime story.
you're missing a major aspect of Simon's character:
he is in denial
Are there any good non-ficiton books about this sort of thing?
>It went trough basically a complete rewrite of the sequence of events in the game, the setting, there was an engine switch etc
I knew I wasn't fucking crazy, those faggots switched deep space for deep sea.
>in denial
>brain damaged
Poor guy
That's just how he copes with it. She tells him several times how it works, and when he gets mad at her she yells that she explained it already
If that's not denial I don't know what is
Do you want him to be a gittery faggot going "N-no that should've h-have happened, I i i i didn't get copied, no i-it's a trick, a trick for sure, she tricked me!"
Not only that but from Simon's point of view he was in Canada a few hours ago.
Imagine that in the next minutes you're suddenly in the bottom of the sea in the future and someone tells you that you're only a copy of your original self.
with the entire world exterminated
What exactly does that science juice even do? It fixes things but it's like robo cancer right?
it's just a game, bro
yep.
in an instant, everything you came to understand and knew about the world vanished and was utterly meaningless. even if the world wasn't fucked, you'd still basically have nothing and wouldn't survive for long.
it is a miracle the game doesnt end 10 minutes in with simon killing himself.
