Fire Emblem Radiant Dawn

Just started up RD again for the first time in years. Which Dawn Brigade units should I use?
I don't wanna end up ass-raped in Part 3 by using the wrong/too many units.

Edward's the best swordmaster in the game, outclassing even Mia

He's the best swordmaster at blocking axes with his face.

Nolan, Volug, Jill, and Zihark. You can maybe use Edward too, but forget the rest.

Writing up a longpost, gonna take a while.

Well, that's gonna be relatively tough.
As a general rule, Leonardo is fucking cursed. Almost never gains HP or speed and acts like he's a fucking mage instead of an archer.
Same with Meg. Way, WAYYYYYYY too much effort needed to train her well, and even then, she's just outclassed at her potential role by Aran.
Speaking of which, Aran and Nolan are probably gonna be your most reliable units of the bunch. Aran's kinda slow, but makes up for it with high defense, strength and HP. He's basically a fucking armorknight without the armor vulnerabilities. Nolan, on the other hand, is reliable all around, but will probably be lacking in defense after a while.
Volug is a fucking trap. He loses his permanent halfshift after Part 1, and unless you're planning on abusing Olivi Grass, he's not fucking worth it, especially since he's pretty much never gonna be used in Part 4.
Tormod, Muarim and Vika should NEVER EVER BE FUCKING USED. Maybe you could use Ilyana, but you are taking a fucking risk with her, since she leaves after Part 1 and joins Ike in Part 3.
Edward is kinda a gamble. Very strong growths all around, but again, he's kinda cursed to just never dodge things when you really need him to. I personally blame biorhythm. If he pulls through by 1-6, use him, since Caladbolg is fucking OP. If not, use Zihark as a substitute. He's far more shaky, and doesn't have nearly the growths Edward does, but he at least comes pre-promoted, and with Adept.
Sothe is always gonna be useful. Just don't give him TOO much experience, and he'll be a great crutch with the Beast Killer in Part 3.

Don't be a fag and use Leonardo and Meg like a real man.

Everyone in the DB has a Greil Mercenaries counterpart that's far superior:

>Boyd/Nolan
>Shinon/Leonardo
>Mia/Edward
>Soren/Ilyana
>Gatrie/Meg
>Haar/Jill

They're only worth using for the portions you're forced to use them. The other armies all have much better variants to use.

Nolan, Jill and Zihark are the only good units in that army.

I don't know why but every time I try to use Zihark he turns out shit

And he'll still probably be better than most other DB units.

Literally no one except Nolan. Everyone else fucking sucks ass.

Nolan, Leonardo, Edward, and Jill.

Nolan, Jill, maybe Aran and Edward. Rest are fucking trash.

Why is there fuck all fan art for Nolan? It's not fair, bros.

Fiona is fucking obnoxious. She's probably your second-best choice for a lance user in the Finale behind Nephenee, but her bases are fucking awful and her availability is cursed. It's gonna take some SERIOUS babying over the course of Part 1 to make her useful, and even then, she's gonna be useless for Chapter 3-6, since she won't actually be able to move anywhere. My advice would be to never ever use her if you're planning on making your other units good.
Jill's another tough one to figure out. Her bases when she joins are pretty damn weak if you're not using Save Transfer to boost her, since her strength is low enough that she'll still be penalized using Steel and Hand Axes, her HP starts low and takes a while to get high, and she just has a knack for missing at the absolute worst times thanks to fucking Biorhythm and axe accuracy. And her high starting level of 14 means gaining experience is also gonna be slower than you want it to be. But once she's trained, she's a very mobile crutch for the Part 3 chapters, especially if you give her the Beastfoe skill. Heck, if you train her really well, you could bring her to the finale, since she's probably the best candidate for an axe user there, even more than Haar.
Laura is a staffbot. Whatever happens with her is inconsequential. Though if you want to screw over your bonus EXP to level grind her, be my guest. But she's probably gonna be stuck Physic-spamming for 3-13 regardless.
Finally, Micaiah. Pretty much everybody knows her problems: Low HP, speed and defense for ridiculously high magic, luck and resistance growths, to the point where trying to use Bonus EXP on her to level up without any of those three stats capped is gonna be a wasted effort. Still, she's a lord, and has a good niche as a nuker throughout the game, so it's still worth using her. Make sure she's somewhere between levels 13 and 16 by the end of 1-8, though, because 1-9 will be where she needs to level cap.

Because no one played RD.

More like because everyone was too busy making fanart of all the laguz.

>Which Dawn Brigade units should I use
Edward, Mickey, Nolan, Aran, Laura, Volug, Jill and probably one or two more are all top tier. Leonardo needs some speed, but you can feed him speedwings and he'll be alright. Mickey needs them more than he does though.

Nolan is great suppprt him with edward for endgame. Sothe steals some xp and falls of a cliff in part 4. Jill can be pretty good with some xp. I have never played with a good zihark but i heard he can be ok. Stay away from Leo, Fiona and Meg they are just to hard to train. Tormods trio has no availability so they turn out awful.

Has anyone tried using Fiona? What did it take for you to do so?

Jill and Nolan are the best
Edward and Aran are servicable but need a bit more investment than the other 2
Zihark's good
Sothe is amazing in part 1, serviceable in part 3 but pretty awful in part 4
Volug is similarly amazing in part 1 and is slightly better in part 3
Illyana's alright but her main use is sending items to the GM's in part 3
Leonardo, Meg and Fiona are shit

>never had sothe at 20 before his story promotion
Is he even worth using? He's great in the early chapters but somehow I never bothered to use him to the end. And I usually enjoy Jeigan runs, even FE6 Marcus.

Jill and Nolan are the best "growth" units in the DB.
Sothe, Volug and Zihark are also good and do not require you to invest EXP into them.

He's a really good crutch for the Part 3 levels, especially thanks to the Beast Killer.
Plus, he's mandatory as your knife user for the Endgame, so you may as well use him anyways.

Not really.
Even if you maxed him out, there's only so much you can do with a maximum of 28 str.

long term he's pretty shit as a combat unit but he at least has theif utility which can be handy for stuff like stealing or the part 4 desert map

He actually has a cap of 20 strength until promotion.

Well yeah, he's useful on the Micaiah maps but I only use him because I need to, not because I want to.
His caps, weapons, and skills all seem like he's not worth the time and effort when other units can do so much more. If I want to use a Whisper there's always Volke anyway.

There’s no real reason to use him when you get two relatively equal swordmasters an entire fucking tier above him. It’s like trying to use Rolf over shinon, why bother?

>Same with Meg. Way, WAYYYYYYY too much effort needed to train her well, and even then, she's just outclassed at her potential role by Aran.
God I miss Nigger.

>If I want to use a Whisper there's always Volke anyway.
Except Sothe is mandatory, so Volke is redundant.

>It’s like trying to use Rolf over shinon, why bother?
I actually did that in a couple runs because I didn't like how slowly Shinon's strength was growing.

She is shit. Low availability early on and low stats make it hard to baby her. She cant double and has low damage. However if you use glare on a staff user during part 1 endgame you can have her attack a unit that heals all her damage but cant run away or fight back. So she can keep farming xp. Get some lucky str growths and she can start to do damage to normal units and hold an iron lance without losing speed. Takes way too long and too much investment to make her good when you could just use Geoffrey or Oscar as a lance cav.

I wasn't asking for her viability. I was asking if people have actually tried, and how fucking painful it was.
Also, Geoffrey and Oscar don't have 34 speed.

Jill
Nolan
Zihark
Edward(If you get blessed growths)
These are the only DB units worth long term use in that order
There isn't anyone else in the part 1 worth using them on so dump the part 1 stat boosters on her to get her snowballing early

Jill, Nolan, Zihark, Valug and Sothe can easily Carry you through the whole DB segment of the game

Bait

Jill, Nolan, Aran, Laura, Sothe, Micaiah.
Anyone else is just around to soften things up a little, they're either shit or too good for part 1 otherwise.

I think even Heather outclasses Sothe and is viable for endgame if you bother to train her.
Last playthrough I gave Mia vantage+adept+disarm and let Heather steal the weapons. Saved a ton of money to spend on rare shop items and forging.

One of the best things about this game is the sheer number of characters to choose from that do the same thing. Perfect for replays. Want a certain class but get a slightly different experience? Use Aran instead of Neph. Don't like Gatrie's face? Try Meg for once. Can't stand Sothe? Go with Heather this run.

Problem is that some characters like Meg are just fucking terrible in every single way. Even on Easy Fiora and Meg can barely do shit
