I am currently working on Minecraft clone.
What features/changes from the original game would you want to see in it?
I am currently working on Minecraft clone
Make it an RPG first, add the sandbox elements later.
There are 99999 shitty sandbox MC clones.
There is no good RPG with MC sandbox mechanics.
be more specific, what RPG mechanics are you talking about?
My idea is Minecraft but everything is 2x1 like a double chest, but they could also be 2x1 like a door.
Every dirt block, every log, every vein of ore, everything is exactly like normal minecraft but twice as long in one direction. We'll call it: Minecraft 2
Way more power light emitting objects and blocks. Powerful enough to stick a few on the ceiling, and you're good for the entire room. It sucks having to put torches everywhere in the original because of their low power and mobs. Also add a way to prevent mobs spawning without making everything bright. Sometimes I want darkness in my builds.
Mainly, I mean add the sandbox of Minecraft to a regular RPG.
There are RPGs where you have a base and build it up, add furniture and so on. But not like Minecraft where you can literally build it piece by piece.
What if MC's sandbox mechanics were used in dungeons to solve puzzles, defeat enemies or reach new places in the world?
What if the player could make their own dungeon?
What if enemies could also build?
The main reason MC lacks depth is because it's like a box of legos that only has regular bricks. There are no mini-figures or plates or special pieces to give anything flavor or tell a story. It's just stacking blocks. A new game could fix that.
And then there are the shortcomings of MC you can fix, too. MC villages are fucking pointless, for example. But if you had a properly crafted world with real handmade cities, they could also be fun to explore.
Just think about everything that's lacking about MC compared to other games. The protagonist may as well not exist for example, and everyone is the same. What if characters had backgrounds and could specialize in things? An experience system is obviously necessary.
Distant terrain without the performance hit
fuck off with that tripe and make a mod that the FTB team would assimilate.
Minecraft already exists
If you start with the premise of satisfying a demand that has already been satisfied by the genuine product you are walking into a failure, even more so if you can't figure out what exactly you will diferentiate yourself with.
Sorry m8
leveling is the worst thing to happen to rpgs and is a cheap way to segment off end game areas
wasn't it necessary in ye olde times where cartridges had very limited space and finishing the game in 2 hours isn't fun? doesn't justify it nowadays but it would explain how that trend began...
No hunger
animals are rare and hard as fuck to hunt for food
Don't have shit ugly block graphics
>leveling is the worst thing to happen to rpgs
Yeah bro D&D ruined roleplaying games.
If you die in game, you die in real life.
So, dragon quest explorers?
why whats the point of making a clone of game
also no one will play ur stupid clone
also theres like a million mods for minecraft already
like theres nothing u could even add that isnt a mod at this point
Yeah currently we have three sources of light implemented but planned at least 8 other. I don't know about mob spawning tho, on what other criteria would you want them to spawn?
Good ideas but very hard to implement.
My friend is working on pretty cool algorithm generating villages tho. Bascially depending on the size they will be classified as either villages, towns and cities and they are all look differently and serve different purpose.
That;s hard to make trust me.
>tripfag
I don't even read your post because I know it's stupid and worthless
We don't plan to add hunger. Food will just give you boosts.
I don't know about that.
in-game character creation
genders
baseline racism and sexism
it started in tabletop games where dungeon/gamemasters were either unskilled or too lazy with storytelling. in videogames disk space is a good enough excuse but I don't think theres much reason for doing it anymore.
D&D didn't ruin roleplaying gaming since it was a good starter for kids and newbies to tabletop games and people who were introduced through it didn't arbitrarily cling onto its systems like what we see in video games.
we want character creation
same with genders
well in the desert biome villagers are going to be black, you can always do to them whatever you want, imagination is your limit :)
Really double down on the Tekkit/Technic type shit and make some fun crafting/grinding stone age to industrial age type stuff
also don't make it in java that'd be great.
>imagination is your limit
>muh agenda
Fuck off.
shut the fuck up retard this isnt reddit
Yeah we do plan shit like industrial age because we all are fans of Immersive Engineering mod for Minecraft. But that won't be implemented soon... Maybe conveyor belts but I don't promise that.
I'd love to see something like the buildcraft pipes implemented. What's your game called? I'd love to check it out.
oh and we are doing it in c++/opengl
I'm not a coder so I don't know any details about performance and stuff like that
thick ass anime girls with huge dicks that precum when you get near them, also I want to play as a really buff nigger faggot that has to steal things from the villagers because crafting isn't a thing.
Also I want to be invulnerable to all fall damage but you can't swim or you'll drown instantly.
we didn't published anything about it yet, maybe in few months, we want to release Beta in december, stay tuned I will post it here
Terraria.
make it more like terraria than minecraft
In normal minecraft leather is much harder and takes much longer to amass than iron, despite the latter being "limited". This shouldn't be the case.
well, if you hate leveling os much, what kind of progression system you suggest?
all I can say is getting Iron Ingots won't be as easy as putting ore in a furnace
think about it as more of how it looked in Terrafirmacraft or Tinkers mods
and chainmail is harder than diamond. way harder. How do we fix this?
Try to harken back to the days of Beta, make it casual and fun rather than a chore to do most things
same as any competitive game basically. you progress as you get more familiar with the game and build muscle memory dont just make enemies that have higher health for no good reason maybe give them resistances if you have mechanics based on getting around them and change their movesets to be more complicated and hard to counter but for the love of god don't just make them spongier
use iron nuggets for chainmail crafting, as it is iron nuggets are only used for the up coming lanterns.
No more hunger meter
No hunger. Hunger ruined Minecraft. Also I would suggest adding fantasy creatures
Don't use blocks for the main character and mobs
That is literally 2 and 2/3s in Iron Bars. not sure if fair, how about iron bars? it's the closest we get without implementing a halffabricate item.
If you already have to describe your game as a “clone” of something, stop right there and go back to the drawing board.
Make crafting stay simple. A big part of Minecraft is how simple it is to make stuff. Need a torch? Craft it literally by how it looks. Minecraft mods suffer from turning a simple crafting method into an autism simulator.
Oh also planes, trains and Zeppelins would be cool
as in, iron jail bars. you know, the vertical jail things.
Exactly, asshat.
to be fair chain-mail isn't exactly good armor it's only on par with leather so it's not really broken in terms of durability and the amount of protection it offers.
that still leaves leather at hard-ish though, how about letting all animals drop leather? Does chicken leather exist IRL? Maybe increase the amount instead/too? 5 per large animal?
Moddability
Just have it be made out of wool again like it used to
but.... that will just keep steve warm. How does wool make sense?
For starters make it not a bland clone with no features and forgettable gameplay like there are thousands already
Also it has to be in space
Circles
keep your polluted non-neat numbers out of my vidya, Pi is a disease that pollutes the purity of a exact number and must be banished. Hail squarius.
Add limit of how long can be blocks put from support block(or pillar) without collapsing. For instance sand falls right down (like in MC) dirt 1-2 blocks from support block and so on. The stronger material is and more work it requires to create then less support it needs. So no hovering or impossible structures.
Brap farms
Three block character height. Ace of Spades proved it's the way to go. 1 for a step, 2 for a half wall, 3 for a fence and 4 for a wall. Ziplines & gondolas. Ability to turn off nametags on a server. Integrate some server mods into the game (as options) like grief & theft protection, warps, shops ect.
isn't terraria 3 high for character?
Make rail travel actually viable with being able to couple rolling stock together and have locomotives to transport things, alongside 2x2 block curves and 3x3 curves.
Make sure it's reasonably lightweight so it isn't ass to run.
Fancy shader support.
Make it so the end game is being able to build a rocket / really tall tower to go through the sky and get to other worlds.
I would unironically love this game if it wasn't for the aesthetic
the toriyama style of DQ always unnerved me, which is weird cause I loved chrono trigger
Also native VR support would be a massive plus, nothing like being able to walk around your own creations as if you're actually there no matter the game.
Is it Hytale?
How about some AI that goes beyond one-note mobs?
Like being part of a faction with NPCs that you can give orders to, and having rival factions that roughly keep up with your progress in terms of faction size and technology.
A bit like an RTS, but one that you're in the middle of.
Millenaire mod?
Literally the Ancient Warfare 2 mod
Do those actually have enemy factions that come attack your base?
You're just autistic then
Not initially, but the point of millenaire is to help village(s) and often you got a 2-way so helping one will piss the other off.
Biggest thing is the lack of challenge. Yeah yeah you can challenge yourself to make a 30,000 block tall bust of tubgirl, but thats not what I mean.
I'm not sure how but give the monsters some piss and vinegar. Like it shouldnt be a 100% thing that you're safe. Maybe have villages of baddies and if its a large village your character cant beat them on its own. Maybe you HAVE to team up to have a hope of beating some villages of bad guys.
Aerial creatures good/bad/neutral would be fun too.
If Lycanites Mobs were blocky I'd actually use it, but instead he insists on using those shitty models.
Terraria-esque bosses? they actually feel threatening. Or should the twilight forest mod be canon? it fits the theme of minecraft enough imo.
where can i follow you nibbas so i dont miss on your work and to make sure u aint larping?
Make it a sex sim with character construction, animation editor/sharer and mod support.
Release it through Patreon.
Slooooooowly update it, muuching money from gullible sex starved teenagers for years
Deeper underworld: the lower you dig, the better pickaxe you need. Each layer is expanentualy bigger
Hunger is there, but it dosen't hurt you, only allows you to sprint, regenerate (very slowly), and mine faster.
Did you implement something like nether with it being faster to travel than the overworld?
Also, maybe some kind of message/notice boards? Signs are lame.
Maybe make so that mob spawning is requiers both darkness and "heart of darkness" that is secured within a dungeon. You could destroy it, mine it out or possibly modify it.
>that's hard
Could you snapshot 2D image and use it as skybox?
add backpacks that increase your inventory space and can be equiped with your armor so you dont have to choose between the two
also more equipment slots so you can have armor + some accesories like the backpack, quiver for arrows, headlamp or cosmetics like a coat or capes, tabards and surcoats to wear over armors, scarfs, some cosmetics that grant certain abilities like walking in water for a short period or double jump then you can make quests to obtain these items
make a giant boss like shadow of colossus Malus and to hurt him you have to reach the top by solving some puzzles with limited construction blocks you obtain on your way to the top, with minions/mobs spawning so you have to fight while solving puzzles
also no need to make a giant entity, just build the tower and put a big enough entity on the top and make him shot beams on your way to the tower. these shots destroy some blocks you have to move and build a wall to protect yourself
Is it Hytale? If it is, please don't let Hypixel shill his politics
What politics are those?
*cough* *cough*
what do you guys expect of Hytale? I think it will be a cult hit at most - minecraft kiddies are fucking sycophants man.
This might be asking too much, but do you think you guys could add buildable vehicles, likes airships/boats? There was one old Minecraft mod that did this very well, where you could build 5000+ block airships with no lag.
It looks interesting, I might give it a try at some point.
Go with a different visual style.
Make shit look and work like you're a human, somehow trapped on a planet made of technology (think cybertron). Make world gen more vertical and full of holes and superstructures.
Dirt -> bundles of wire (make them drop different colors of wire)
Stone/ore -> various metals and scrap
Mobs -> machines and drones, with hostile and friendly types of intelligent ones.
What do? -> get off-world
How do? -> tech tree, multiple alternate dimensions and shifted realities (where you can walk on all surfaces and fall towards the last surface), random boss fights that drop necessary loot
Add battle royale multiplayer for autistic kids to get into.
If you're serious about it, I can help you with the design and textures.
Why not make an original game? You’re putting in all the time and effort you would be anyway, except you’re creating something that we already have dozens of. It’s a complete waste
Smaller blocks
I'm sure that smaller blocks will allow more detail in constructions
Probably.
Hopefully.
But I expect it to be far better than minecraft, even if it's only as 50% as good as it looks.
1. Core structure of digging and building.
2. World Adventures, like the nether and such, which will make the players want to explore
3. Worthwile loot, adventures and such needs also a reason to be adventured. I would like to be able to find a pickaxe which destroy 3 vertical blocks, as it makes the building mechanic less tedious. This is if you want to create big stuff.
4. Multiplayer/mods, this is obvius. The later can however wiat in my opinion.
5. Multiplayer mechanics, I am talking about guilds and such. Even if core minecraft is cool in itself it would be nice to be able to do some kind of this stuff. Like maybe guild wars, guild chests, an daily trade egangement where guilds can have a daily trade with each other. Like one guild is living in a wooden area, so they need to fill a chest with 64 woods every day while the other one needs to fill it's chest with sand or whatever. The trade only happens when the chests contains what is promised. They can ofcourse add more so they don't have to grind every day.
6. Ship building. Being able to build a ship that can go on water, so people can explore and colonize areas.
7. redstones, it will keep some fags doing cool stuff.
8. agresive npcs. If you build a city, or somewhat and got like 6-10 people there who is working and stuff then it would be cool if thieves or such would try to raid you for your tresures. Or a big monster can sometime come to try to destroy houses.
>im currently working on a Minecraft clone
>you know, like those hundred other shitty clones, from the one posted on Nintendo's e-shop, to Steam, to just in general
>lol its gonna be gud guise, i swear
go jump off a bridge faggot OP
If you have lighting control mob spawning then make good options to light places. Torches all over buildings can fuck up aesthetics fast. Improve over their lighting system, have more options for light emiting blocks, or improve over their system for controlling mob spawns.
1. Focus on the end game early so all parts are integrated. If you want magic, start early. If you want tech, start early. Make sure you have a plan for everything you make. Feature-creep almost killed the original MC.
2. Develop with server latency in mind. Everything a player does has to be relayed to a server, even single player has an internal server. Minimize the internal single player latency as much as possible and use prediction algorithms for online.
3a. Survival elements are a game in themselves. Segregate code that affects survival game play seperately so it doesnt interfere with other game modes.
3b. If a player can find a strategy which allows them to live forever, the survival elements are broken. Something needs to be able to kill the play eventually, no matter how safe they think they are.
4. Hunger is a survival element and does not need to exist in normal gameplay. Figure out another way to heal damage, such as sleeping or health potions.
5. MC did a lot of things right. Study the problems Notch had while making MC so you don't run into the same situation.
Modded content fixes a lot of things wrong with vanilla MC.
These are...
1. Progression
2. Lack of content (Magic, Technology, etc.)
3. Lack of terrain/dimensions
4. Lack of enemy variety
>>Implying anyone cares about these opinions.
Not gonna lie user, you sound pretty autistic.
If you're doing block-based, make people 3 blocks high and 2 blocks wide. Much better than the 1-2 ratio of minecraft.
RPG elements like finding upgrade crystals and staves that shoot lightning would be cool, but make these upgrades go away when you die. So bob picks up a crystal of double jump and a staff of fire, and he can be a double jumping wizard until he dies and loses that gear. He would need to pick up the staff to regain his fireball ability, and wouldn't have to find a new crystal to get back his double jump ability.
Players would only have enough "crystal" slots for limited upgrades though. Maybe they're equipable like armor, maybe their consumable.
Hire me.
