FFVII would've been a much better game if Sephiroth were a girl.

THERE GOES A SUPERNOVA, WHAT A PUSHOVER-YEAH.
Grayson Edwards
but the Sephiroth you see for the majority of the game was actually Jenova which physically identified as female. So in a way he already was a girl.
Dominic Young
Why did the cinematic show actual planets like Saturn and Jupiter getting named and destroyed? Does FFVII take place on an alternate Earth or something?
Jose Ross
>destroys the Sol system
>several times
>pssh, nothin' personnel, real world

all that and the move can't actually kill you what a joke

This would be a good final boss fight if the entire animation only happened one time and then always play a greatly shortened version of it with the same damage.
Anthony Wright
what really was his fucking problem?
Jack Nelson
He thought he was a mako experiment like those in the nibelheim and wanted to make those involved past. He wasn't but he knows he's unusual which is still right since his mother had jenova cells implanted in her womb while carry sephiroth

The Jenova cells inside him were always manipulating him to some extent. Finding out you might be an ancient is no solid excuse to burn down a town and try to harvest the Jenova head.

Super-Nova, and Summons, both pull the caster and target into a pocket/alternate dimension while the destructions happens, which is why the world is typically still intact when the animations finish. I assume it's a bit of fourth-wall breaking and that Sephiroth is destroying the players solar system in his attack. It's interesting that they bothered to give it a narrative excuse in the Ultimania instead of just saying 'lol, gameplay faggots'.
It's worth noting that in Dissidia it's heavily toned down in execution (perhaps because this is pre-tranformation Sephiroth, and that is the rendition he could do before Niebelheim) and in KH his attacks are more personal in nature, if still as devestating.
Sebastian Ortiz
Super Nova in the FF7 remake will take 10% of the budget,

>FF players are so stupid they had to label the planets
Isaiah Johnson
He was as experiment from birth, raised as a super soldier for a hilariously evil and corrupt mega-corp, as an orphan by his (to him) unknown insane scientist father, was basically a child SOLDIER in the Wutai war where he probably slaughtered hundreds to thousands before he was old enough to grow a full beard, both his best (and only) friends sickened and died/turned traitor, leaving him totally alone and unloved, and then finally the one thing he clung to (the idea of his mother and his connection to her being special, them being Cetra/Ancients) turned out to be a lie and he was really a demon(alien)spawn of a part-dead alien megaparasite. Then a no-name soldier stuck a buster sword through his back. And then threw him off a ledge using hax. And he ended up trapped in the lifestream/northern crator having to use JENOVA bodies as puppets.
He had a hard life. The hilariously tragic part is that even knowing the truth of who his mom really was might not have been worlds better, as she was almost as much a mad scientist as Hojo, and even if they had survived Angeal was oddly apathetic about his friendship with Sephiroth and Genesis arguably hated him and only hung around as a subpar rival and so they could spar.
Aiden Turner
Nah, it's made clear that he overpowered JENOVAs will with his anime villain hack willpower, and it really is him (using JENOVA puppets) the entire game. The entire reason Advent Children comes back is to leave a lasting impression on Cloud that he *can* come back that the connection will keep his persona intact in the lifestream. Fucker has some brains, willpower and planning skills, even when losing his sense of self in a sea of life.
Gavin Barnes
wtf level of autism do you have to come up with that?
The reason was because the American super nova was made different from the Japanese one, and the dumb Americans just threw in real planet names.
Hunter Parker
So Sephiroth destroys OUR solar system or an alternate universe version of it whenever he uses Supernova even though he has nothing to do with us? What a fucking asshole.
Isaac Gonzalez
The game wouldn't have been nearly as cool to me as a kid.

It's just something the localizers threw in to look cool and epic. In the original Japanese version it was basically just a quick explosion, though the international version used the English version of the attack.

Sure it is, or at least as much so as it ever was. If you want to totally disregard it, cool, but do you really want to give VIIR so much weight? It's going to be a modern SE product.
Zachary Flores
Here's a bunch of garbage that might help as an explanation:
It's not really explained all that well why he went evil. Not even in the extra material. You can extrapolate from the books that you can find in the mansion's basement, and the cutscenes in Nibelheim, that he found out about the Cetra, Jenova and the experiments that created him and set about pursuing the most efficient way to wipe out humanity before meeting his untimely end at the hands of Cloud.
Crisis Core maybe insinuates that his psychotic break is kinda sorta due to PTSD from his days in the army fighting the war in Wutai. He spent his entire life vastly more powerful than any human -- and doing the bidding of his inferiors -- and this eventually grew to become contempt, and then later disdain for mere mortals. He must have felt that it was a profound injustice, an outrage, that the supposedly superhuman, superpowerful ancients (of which he was a descendant) all died out while humanity thrived.
He remained blissfully unaware right up until the end of his life (and the end of the game for that matter) that they all died because Jenova killed them.
Christopher Sanchez
This. Every creative staff member who worked on the original game has been asked this question numerous times by now, and they always say the intention is that Sephiroth actually overpowers Jenova, not the other way around. People still clinging to interpretations of bad 25 year old translations as their sole evidence are not to be listened to, go research it even a little.
Luke Morales
>It's not really explained all that well why he went evil.
It's because he's a Griffith reference.
Christian Russell
Different guy, and I'm not arguing with you, but I've played the Nip version twice and I don't really remember it implying he took over.

It didn't strike me until just now that this means that Sephiroth is really Kefka 2.0 with an actually evil creator and no penchant for clown makeup
Zachary Reed
Griffith is a ryo reference. I think Cloud breaks the trend though and isn't his dark haired mancrush.
I get a kick out of hos even Fulgrim and Ferrus Manus continue the fucking trend. IF you got dark hair don't trust the white haired prettyboy

Watch your mouth. A scene from Advent Children that is also replica of the split party battles from the end of FF7.

Never happened. Nonvirgins shouldn't be allowed here.

JP version is cast only once and it wipes your group. They then made the better animation that you see in the western version, but also nerfed it so it wouldn't wipe you, which was the problem
now it's cast multiple times and it's a long ass animation that was meant to be played once
the long animation would be fine in the jp version
Landon Sullivan
Just because it wasn't a percentage damage attack doesn't mean it would "wipe your group" in the Japanese version.

So why is it that FFVII had all these distinct visual styles? It is odd because they proved they didn't have to make the models chibi if they didn't want to. The very end of the game also proves they could have made the battle models all look like that but yet they didn't do that.
FFVII is an odd game.

>He remained blissfully unaware right up until the end of his life (and the end of the game for that matter) that they all died because Jenova killed them
Not true. He discovered the truth about Jenova and the fact that he isn't actually a Cetra while swimming around in the Lifestream during the five years between the Nibelheim incident and the start of the game. He explains this at the Temple of the Ancients.
Problem is, all it did was fuel his god complex. He went from "I'm descended from the Cetra, so I'm the rightful ruler of the planet" to "I'm descended from the thing that killed the Cetra, so I'm definitely the rightful ruler of the planet, and you know what, fuck it, the entire universe for that matter"
Elijah Sullivan

Nice move lil sephi boy... HOWEVER
Camden Myers
It's called economy of means and impact flux. You don't want your game to look the same all the time, specially when you haven't figured out how to "run" the game properly on this new console and the battles are averaging 20 fps.
Also, play older games, this is not something uncommon.
Jaxon Cox
Reminder that the Super Nova was an illusion.

One Winged Angel is the single most overrated boss theme of all time.
Yes, it was impressive to hear Latin choirs in a PS1 game, but the theme itself is stupidly repetitive.
Mason Mitchell
What do you think is worse. That bit of info or the FF10 connection?
