It's very easy to moderate your game when you only run it during the weekends, and 90% of the players are dead at any given time in any given round.

This is one of many ways in which SS13 has been babbyfied.
Plasma fires used to be round ending catastrophes. The 2007 SS13 map had a plasma fire engine, and if it escaped you had to quickly eject the entire engineering department or the whole ship would be consumed in an inferno.

Internals used to be rare, space suits used to be rare, security used to be a tiny little department with a few officers who only had tasers and basic armor, now it's some giant military LARP thing with an armory and ten different guns and half the crew.

It has bombs and such, but experienced players will watch chemists and see if they are making bombs, arrest them if they are, etc.

funny enough this is actually a significant part of the reason why i didn't join the ssethfugee horde. i had never heard of the game before and it seems pretty fun but something just feels off about joining when there's this many people bumrushing it and making the servers shit themselves and die.

I won't lie, 35 pop on Pubby is much funner than populations that only Delta can handle, but these might lead to changes for the better. At the moment it allows you to do shit you normally couldn't get away with because of newer players, and if you don't know something now's the best time to learn. At worst it's a fad and at best it's a chance to push some of the circlejerk discordfags off the server.

I haven’t played since late 2015(16?)(Sunflyer is my username btw) and imo any nonCM server feels too crowded with more than like, 60-70 ppl. 70 people is enough to fill every role and then some, chaos exists because of sheer numbers but you can still do shit. 100 people especially if most of them are newfags leads means important roles are covered by people with no idea what to do and nobody really able to help out and being pseudo extended. Doesn’t help that the game (and engine) are basically held together by shoestrings and rubber bands.

You can roll for any traitor roles except team antag when you're new. Team antag is when you understand more about how people play through the station and how you can communicate with them to achieve what you have to do. You usually want to be initiated through gameplay if it cult, or you get thralled. You can always go to a test server

Don't play chemist, play science and build a chem dispenser yourself. Nobody will question it and any space lube accidents will be blamed on the chemist. Try roboticist if you want to mess around with chems. It's basically assistant with science access and an excuse for using chem dispensers. You usually have someone else to do research and all you need to do is build a mining mech or fix a Borg once or twice, then you have all the time you need to learn the recipes before actually going chemist. It's also a great antag role for the same reasons.

One time I was the clown, and got promoted to HoP since I think the old one got arrested. Naturally I gave myself all access, opened up a bunch of clown jobs, and gave the AI a 4th law: you must honk whenever possible.

At first, the AI didn't really do much with this law, but then it eventually edited the telecomms scripts so that every word that was said on the radio became HONK. What followed was a cacophony of honking that ended once the HoS busted in and arrested my ass.

Crafthold? Yeah that's the one Yina runs. "No one fights here we're all friends!" meanwhile they let vampires feast on people if they go through there. Everyone's afraid to fucking get rid of it because besides chance, no one wants it gone, since everyone just wants to ERP and do nothing. That's part of the reason for the expansion, they get rid of making new settlements without exceptional reasoning, and have a set map for the factions. I thought that was a good exchange. There's 3 factions you can play out the gate. Jianghu which is far east asian honorabu goodie goodies. Gehenna which is unga bunga aztec fucks who aren't good or bad, but praise spirits instead. basically savages. Then valmasia which is guys who worship a necromancer (and praises those who learn necromancy, which lets you raise other player characters under your control, which is neat)

The core component of the gameplay besides RP (ss13 is literally the same fucking thing I should remind you, just in a different ratio) is the verbing. And it's absolutely real time combat. It's got a GCD because eternia, the predecessor game had none, and everyone, I mean EVERYONE. All 100+ players were one of three builds because of it. GCD seems like shit but if you want to minmax you can go time, get spells that lower GCD, and give you the ability to make GCD spells GCD exempt so you can chain stuns and other bullshit.

I don't know what you're talking about. Rolling the dice never happens unless you're:
Winner/loser of a fight, determining whether or not you inflict injuries/capture someone
Rolling for reward in an event.
Those are the only times you roll dice, at all. To get skills you just RP. As you RP, you get RPP. Use that RPP to buy spells/skills.

Also you're not wrong about capping not being 6 sucking, but you can ensure that happens by not trying to fight people who are way lower than you. If you're in relatively close range to someone, you can request a 3cap, which is 50% capture rate. having 100% would just make all the paypiggies quit. Same reason you can buy edits/guaranteed roles on ss13 my dude.

Frankly BYOND games at large are worth playing for a week at a time, then stopping. Even spires. As much as I enjoy it, it's not suitable for long term play at all. See too much and you notice the cracks and it falls apart.

I think I'd quit around when you played. I played at the very launch of spires, the first couple months, then I stopped till just around now.

And yeah chance is pretty blatant about not really hiding his preferences. Not that I blame him, if I had people paying me $2000 a month (that's what it was at before they hid their patreon amount) I'd probably make sure everything was in their favor too. I'll never forget him nerfing my build the same day I beat his character's ass 2-0, never dipping below 90%.

Now that he doesn't play the game as much, no builds change unless they beat the paypigs, so angels are shitting all over everyone with ohkos, even at age 13 under 150 rpl, and time/gravity has enough slows and -dr to annihilate any build that goes up against it. Frustrating as hell, but I'm determined to stick through. Hopefully I'll still be playing around when eternia 3 launches, and we can get a little band of Yea Forums or /vg/ folks to play and just take over.

Yina's back on Eiphraem now as of yesterday, so nate will probably start playing again a bit more. Funny you mention shen, he just died, and my mate is playing his successor (guy used to play axton brock, the bald umbretarn dude who was one of the first 200s, then ragequit when his build got nerfed), while I'm playing a student to the lich king. We're both hoping to make pretty powerhouse characters to explode part of the world and get people up off their asses with a real, raw, war. None of the "I don't want to hurt your fee fees I won't kill you" shit that tends to happen. If that fails, we're gonna double team some fuckers with twin demons that have complementing builds. One of us fire mage, the other darkness melee.

But yeah, as far as I know, nate's doing well. And sadly the pay to win element is alive and well, but it's not so public facing now, at least. You can't just outright buy hiddens (or if you can it's more expensive than $50 like it was). I'm excited for the future as mad as I am about a lot of things in the game. If you want a fun build tho, shadowflame is, to my knowledge, still real good, alongside illusion. Flurry and blindness into GFW and with the md boost of occult aura, alongside the AP boost of the big occult AOE means big boy burst, with blind and the tile fires dissuading people from coming at you or chasing dirrectly, each tile does like 1 vit. It wont kill angels but its a quality burst and retreat build, assuming you can use it well. Might also get some good results by mixing in gravity however, since I heard its busto as fucko.

Honestly if you just don't mention it's you, they'll unban you in 3ternia and that'll be it. I got permed in the original eternia, unbanned on spires and no one knows it's me and I've made it so far.

And chance is, well, chance. He is a dude that only has eternia to his name, he wastes all the cash he owns monthly, he doesnt save anything. This isnt speculation, this is high grade dudes who told me about it, he cant into basic finances and he wastes it all on ??? because he is still kind of a kid. Eternia was started when he was 14 mate, its his baby and his only source of revenue, he depends on a bunch of erping roleplayers in byond and he is one of the biggest manbabies around.

He fits in, honestly. The game has some of the best situations for roleplay, people actually remember you when you try and be social and expose yourself, even if you suck at verb. I remember bringing back one of my bloodbender falgellants, Zeke, and everyone in looc just about went "Holy shit, is that zeke?". Chance hates that and hates that kinda character because Zeke wasnt big dick riding into enemy territory and dangerousing everyone but he was so inherently strange, so inherently weak (started him at 60 just to make him extra unviable and old) and so inherently bizarre (he literaly whipped himself with a cat of nine while fighting to bloodbend) that people remembered him. But thats shit, according to him, and always will be. He wont ever see the great rp he can get because all he wants is erp and war.

He already gets both in spades. Especialy from priestesses of order and orderly foxes who offer their characters to be raped ic so they can remain orderly ic.im case you didnt know, yeah, it happened. suha was a shit

Oh I'm well aware, when the game first started I was part of Gehenna and the sheer amount of kitsune whores that rolled up on our doorstep was disgusting. It was only after I realized chance made his first char a gehennan sarradian that was why they were there schmoozing everyone. It was funny.

It's even funnier now that ERP is banned in game. There's a marked decline in player activity and even the playerbase in general, but I think he feels some retarded obligation to keep it banned even though he could have just done what he'd always done and banned the retard trying to type out gory cannibal shit no one wanted to see, while ERPing in public.

They quit the discord, but they were never actually banned. Don't think they play anymore either, obviously. If you can't get to 230RPL by erping, why bother, right? lel. And yeah, I've always had a soft spot for gehenna. It's a shame they never get good leaders, or when they do, everyone else quits. Right now there's like 1 dude who's above 18 and isn't struggling with the -dr, and he's not even that strong, I'm only 205 and I can beat him really handily. And he's their leader.

The rp was meh, the playerbase rather basic, thirsty or low tier, the whole preference chance had for em got old real quick and while I wont even pretend that ChinkJink land was much better, the actual metaclub in geheniggas was always way bigger than ChingKong. Couldnt find any damn rp there, it was filled with nibbas like crystik, chance and other patreon 0 effort dudes, and it never really gripped me, yknow?

I can see the fun in the combat, but you need something to fuel you to do it. I never cared for admin favours (even if I did get them), as evidenced by calling Chance a cuck, so when I go ahead and fight a nibba thats suposed to be my enemy or whatever, I want more backing than just "muh tribal ooga booga blood", " muh drugs ooga booga hedonism" or "muh moni ooga booga gold". Gehenna never got me that while Valmasia did, a lot lot more.

Chatting with Yina on the deathbox as the Dreamer herself, discussing ideals and dreams? The rp as you embodied the wrath of Azrael, as your character fought for a better world, his dream to be able to fix the failures of Kraus, to bring forth the third, final war? The joy he felt, as the arts of his Lord made him undead?

We have necromancy so even if they kill one of our best fighters we just take them back and ressurect them as an undead which are now basically perfect. As much fun as I find valmasia it's equally as boring because while there's more lore behind it, and a lot more meat to sink your teeth into, so to speak, it makes it that much harder to have a meaningful conquest against the other factions. None of them care about their lore anymore because it's all garbage/been thrown away, but eternia had actual player characters that did that shit. The supreme necromancer is literally a character. Yina's dreamer was the character after her char on eternia beat the ORIGINAL dreamer, which was some elder god abomination thing. So there's so much more attachment and everyone remembers them. But like jianghu? Oh, the emperor, okay. He's nothing. The end.

There is no soul to places other than jinkland and valm. Usualy, soul is used as a meme, but its just plain true now, yknow? There is nothing to other factions and nobody wants to have somethng to them because they wanna battlechad to make chance happy, instead of also roleplaying as they are meant to.

In that eternal shitfling and in the chasing of war, in the purchasing of hiddens and all the events to get them, Chance forgot that you are meant to be immersed into the world. Roleplayers, not erprs mind you, were key to keeping people invested but when you got folks like tizoc and random rewarded for random murdering like an ape and roleplayers getting fucked over and people just kinda leave. There is nothing here for folks who want to try and be characters instead of just battlechads, the lore is underdeveloped and the major events only advance when Nadrew codes it, which 99% of the time he cant since he has to cater to new spells and hiddens.

I wanted to love the game, even with bad balance, but you kinda cant. I wanted to be an azraelite, to become an oscuri or die trying, and I did my best to embody it all but Chance hated me more than he hated the sister banging rapist just because he dangerous 1d a rpl 20 newbie, then killed him. Sometimes you just cant win.

The controls are relatively easy and all you have to is not go mad with power.

Just like everything else it depends on the server you're playing on and how the admin squad feels about your gameplay. I haven't played in like 6 years but a lot of the more chaotic servers can give you a stressful but extremely fun experience as sec whereas the more tame servers make sec extremely simple. Not to mention you're a prime target for a lot of antags but a gray shirt rocking some of the most robust tools out there won't even catch a second look giving him more of a chance to play batman than you'd ever get.

A server changed how Blood Cult works, and as far as i know they're the only ones to do it. I think that their new cult is pretty fun, and so is their alternative to random antag mode.
