Nice, but the PS2 had the best startup screen to me. Especially the bloop when it says "PlayStation 2" after the part with the cubes.

Yes, it's the most satisfying bootup of any console. PS2 is an easy 2nd, maybe tied with GC.

I prefer the PS1 startup, but the PS2 bloop logo. Combining the two would truly be an unstoppable force.

Original PS3 startup used to be pretty classy too, though not as iconic.

What happened to kino start screens? They're all so boring now. I guess the fact that consoles have like entire OSs that you interface with prior to the game launching doesn't help.

>combining the two would truly be an unstoppable force
Make this the PS5 startup.

Sony's marketing and branding during PS1 and 2 was fantastic. Everything they did played into an aesthetic that impacted how you remember feeling about using their product. When I turned on a PS2 game, I felt like I was diving into something. It felt important somehow. Similar feelings towards PS1.

I recall playing Resident Evil and Silent Hill during cold silent winter nights. This spoopy sound set the mood perfectly.

consoles can load up the games faster

Not particularly. it still takes ages to get into shit from a fresh startup on 360 and PS4. Consoles go into standby now though (although PS2 technically could do this as well kind of). The last 2 gens have had startup themes, they're just generic and boring.

Why did they change this?

not a clue, i really liked the chime at the end.

Soulless as fuck. 95/98 had perfect aesthetics.

>using any 3.x when you could just stay in superior DOS
"Perfect aesthetics" -- that's a strange way to say "buggy and unstable as living goddamn fuck".

Goddamn, this + RE1/2 ate up so many comfy, comfy nights when I was in high school. There was literally NOTHING better back then than getting all settled in on the living room couch, covered in blankets, turning all the lights off, and then spending the whole faintly CRT glow lit night fucking around in SoTN looking for secrets or speedrunning RE2 to try to get good times to show off between friends. Take me back, anons

It has the aesthetics but to consistently use it is hell. 2000 is probably the most stable incarnation of Windows.

wow i always wanted a Sega CD as a kid, but that intro screen is underwhelming as fuck. glad my mom said no.

>although PS2 technically could do this as well kind of
How? I owned a PS2 but I barely remember anything about it. Did it just auto itself into standby if you didn't press a button for x time?

If you held down the power button to power it off for about 3 seconds, the power light would turn red. This meant it was in standby mode. I personally always flipped the switch on the back after powering it off but a lot of people would keep their PS2 in standby all the time.

*press cd tray button*
*doesn't open*

Attached: s-l300.jpg (300x300, 9K)

Wait, that's not what I thought what it meant. I thought you could put it in standby and then resume the game whenever you come back. Yeah obviously everyone had their PS2 always "on".

Not everyone but yea it was meant to do that, in the same way the PS3 and 4 are. It's the same thing that any modern console does now (although modern consoles also do what you describe). Booting up from standby on PS2 was a lot faster though.

Wait, so could you actually put a gamer on hold and if you turn on the PS2 you could keep playing from right where you left or no? You make it sound very confusing user.

Yes lets set our console vertically so that it eventually falls down from a stray controller cord tug. Who the fuck kept their console vertical for more than 5 seconds?

it was a different time.

That's why you got a stand, though I still preferred having it horizontal anyways.

Everything about this console design was mindblowing when I was 12 years old. My friend had one and it seemed like it had endless features. It played fucking DVDs and PS1 games. I remember asking where you plug in the memory card and the controllers and then he just plugs them into those grooves on the front. This was a very awesome console.
