Kazuma Kiryu has never killed a man
John Scott
I just finished Yakuza 0 and I really want to get on with the next one, but I'm afraid it's literally the same game, same map, same minigames, same recurring characters, just with a different story. Am I wrong?
Leo Roberts
Carson Martin
He must've only wounded all those people in that shoot out driving section in 0.
Grayson Lewis
He has VERY good aim
Julian Sanders
this game is literally the big gay prove me wrong
Cooper Stewart
Reminder that the Yakuza games are actually RPGs.

Kiryu killed a lot of people, he just doesn't stoop down to executing people that he's beaten and aren't a threat anymore.
Landon Harris
I never played Kiwami but I played the original, and yeah they can be samey so I wouldn't recommend rushing through this series.
Take your time and wait until you have the urge to play again then pick up the next game.
However the story in 1 is fucking nuts but I think that's why people like Yakuza as a series
Christian King
Who's he talking to?
Ethan Allen
The map changes a bunch of little things because it's not the 80s anymore but it does have pretty much the same minigames with a different version of the JCC. That's how all the Yakuza games tend to be, new additions to Kamurocho, sometimes a new area (Sotenbori incidentally was not new in 0, it's from 2 and 5), new and returning Heat actions, new minigames, new takes on old minigames (Baseball and darts for example), new characters, returning old characters, a coliseum with returning boss movesets, and so on.
0 had recurring characters from 2 and 5, it had movesets, Heat actions, and items from Ishin, and the only new thing in it from the older games is the 80s aesthetic, the new styles, and a couple of minigames. The style system is from Kenzan and Ishin, the styles themselves are just new however Beast is just a combination of Saejima and Kiryu's movesets from 4 and 5 and Breaker is just Ogita's moveset spruced up a bit from 5.
With the series you just take it slowly so you don't burn out and it's not like most of the games are $60, especially if you're patient. They're always adding onto the games and changing things up to keep things fresh, but yes, there's a lot of recycling and that's something you need to get used to.

I've played yakuza 0, kiwami and kiwami 2
i would rate 0 and kiwami 2 a solid 9/10 but kiwami is just a 7/10

Caleb Roberts
completion points, nothing else special i guess
Jace Sanders
A trophy and nothing special. Usually she just gives you random items that are more for the novelty than anything.
Christian Clark
Jacob Gray
I filled out the survey and said the reason I got into Yakuza is because of webms about heat moves from this site.
I still wonder how murder is such a big deal in the stories when most heat moves seriously look like they killed someone.
Justin Jenkins
So it's one of those "the treasure was the friends you made along the way" sort of things. I'm too far in now so I've gotta finish it anyways.
Gabriel Johnson
Pretty much. It's just to get you unique items basically. In 1 HD and Kiwami you need to do it for a trophy but otherwise it's not needed unless you absolutely must have her items, and it's really unfair in games like 3 where she makes you go against Expert AI that outright cheat against you all the time to the point that it's just not fun. It's available in almost every game she's in.

This guy looks like he could be a lot of fun. I wouldn't be mad with a more Nishitani/Majima-esque character to fill in Kiryu's shoes.

Let's see what happens tomorrow considering it's a Playstation Direct and this is the first recent event revolving games and Playstation.

Some guy in the last thread said he talked with the guy who manages the Q&A (Forgot his name; he's a fan of Sonic) and that Kiwami 2 will be released later this year.
Keep in mind that the whole post was basically Source: dude trust me so don't get your hopes up
Colton Murphy
They haven't announced anything.
Kiwami 1 was easy to port since it's basically just an expansion of 0, but Kiwami 2 would require porting the new engine, so if they do port it it's probably gonna take a while.
Austin Hall
If you could make ONE change to any Yakuza game, what would you change in which game?
Thomas Thomas
i'd get rid of the dumb blocking shit in 6
Nathaniel Cox
Heat actions are now activated with another button.
Levi Torres
jesus fuck this I hate using a heat move when I want to use specific combos instead
Carson Lewis
which button?
Jacob Ward
Just hold L2. It disables Heat actions.
Leo Thomas
you can disable them by holding L2.
they introduced it back in 5 and only tell you about it being a feature like once.
Wyatt Jones
I remember they told you that in 0 at the beginning, but I don't remember it being said in kiwami.
Michael Martinez
no more guns, fuck realism, fuck immersion, fuck annoying guns
Carter Lopez
>Get shot
>UAARGH
>Kiryu spends 1 second in the ground while you smash a button to make him get up

>yakuza 0
>getting kiryu’s dragon style is fucking boring as hell, but makes bank
>getting majima’s mad dog style is fun as fuck, but sparse when it comes to money
What where they thinking???
Ian Lee
>dragon style is fucking boring as hell
you haven't experienced it's best incarnation yet.
Evan Hughes
He said getting it is boring, not that the style itself is boring.
God imagine how easy 0 would be if Kiryu had the Komeki Tiger Drop, expecially at the start, he'd make Mr.Shakedown his bitch.
Jonathan Martin
Brawler > Dragon with most abilities > Beast > Dragon > Rush
Evan Green
Dragon has the Tiger Drop so it wins.
Benjamin Perez
Does the Judgement guy actually feel weaker then Kiryu or is him not being a force of nature like Kiryu just marketing talk.
Carson Gray
gameplay wise he's probably stronger due to all the shit they've added, but he's likely weaker from a story perspective.
Joshua Stewart
Yagami feels roughly the same as K2 Kiryu when you get the damage upgrades though the ending lag on finishers is brutal with how open everything leaves you. However due to the blue style you feel like you clear crowds faster. The first real boss fight in chapter 1 felt like you were fighting some of the later boss fights in K2 with how much health the boss had and how much damage you dealt in general even with upgrades. The Ultimate Heat counterpart feels weaker than Kiryu's though, you can be knocked around in it much easier than Kiryu could.
Landon Allen
I still prefer activating Rush's Climax Heat mode and switching to Beast for Turbo-Beast shenanigans but to each his own I suppose.
I know Dragon is the most technical and the one you're supposed to use late game but ripping an electrical panel out of the ground and bashing everyone senseless works just as well.
Nolan Thomas

Landon Cox
So are side stories in Yakuza technically canon or not?
Colton Smith
Depends on if the writer of a certain sequel likes a previous side story or not. In other words they don't give a shit so neither should you.
Lincoln Ross
Pocket circuit is canon
Evan King
Does 6 acknowledge the Kiwami story, all I know is the Fighter is in it.
Kayden Anderson
Yakuza Kimawi 2 on PC when ?
Or should i just emulate the PS2 version ?
Owen Anderson
Argument for "No" is that there's simply no way in hell Kiryu does what he does in the timeframe he's given. He saves the Marietta in the month-ish timeframe 2 takes place in. He becomes the #1 host in Adam in 2 in less than four days. He makes a real estate business go from broke to successful in a handful of days while also managing to hire multiple people despite only having like three days to clear his name. He goes out with hostesses enough in multiple games to get intimate with them but it would take a minimum of like five days for that to happen. He coaches a baseball team for what feels like should take months, etc.
Argument for "Yes" is that you meet Minamida in both 3 and 4 specifically. In 3 he's part of the main story to introduce you to a game mechanic and in 4 he tells Akiyama that Kiryu helped him out during a forced main story introduction to a game mechanic meaning that the events of 3 had to have happened. In 3 it's revealed that Minamida was hired by Amon to create IF7 so Amon could fight people, specifically Kiryu, in his brain. Amon mentions that he has been watching Kiryu's good deeds in most of the games which means Kiryu had to have done the substories at the very least, maybe not all of them but at least some of them.
Kiwami is not canon substory-wise. It continues off of 0 for several substories and pretends Kiwami's continuations never happened at all. The Munan Chohept and PCF stuff does not continue from Kiwami's endings at all.
Gavin Foster
it doesn't which is pretty surprising since they never missed out other substories in the past.
