This is the most fun I've had with a videogame in a while. What went right?

It's not really a full rpg at all. It's mostly just a game about checking off lists and watching numbers go up without much meaning behind it all. It aint a bad game but it's still shallow, tedious, and extremely repetitive. It's just something to play when you want to turn your brain off and kill a bunch of people.

Go for origins first, you will enjoy the evolution that Odyssey brings

I kinda disagree.Origins was a good balance of old and new. Odyssey goes full retard with half-baked RPG shit and feature bloat. I feel like half my time is spent in the menus, grinding for XP and materials, or clearing the thousands of copy pasted forts.

Origins and Odyssey are the best AC has been since Black Flag. I'd almost lost all faith after Rogue, Syndicate and Unity.

By the way if it makes a difference for your intent to try it, the abstergo present day matrix illuminati conspiracy ancient aliens bullshit gay plot has a combined screentime of about 15 minutes in ACO, across three different scenes. And it took me about 120-130 hours to complete the entire base game on one playthrough, excluding the paid DLC. It's a hell of a lot better than getting pulled out of the Caribbean every hour or two for 15-30 minutes of boring gay modern day Canada conspiracy shit in Black Fag

You don't have to do either, you naturally level up to 50 as a result of completing the quests, and there are a LOT of quests, and the forts are largely optional unless you're being a 100% completionist autismal

There are not many interesting options if you want to play a straight Kassandra or a gay Alexios.

This is simply untrue. Multiple times when I arrived to a new region I would complete EVERY single location within it, every side quest, and do some bounties, and I would STILL not have enough EXP for the next main quest.

It's not a lie, it happened when I was in Megaris, then Phokis, Then Attika. After that the game opens up a bit so I could get more EXP but I was starved for it even when completing those 3 entire regions.

Did you play some early unpatched version?

More mercenaries (phylakes)
Dialogue options (and "romance" that is just fade to Black with a flirty line)
Armor loot (helmet, Arms, chest, waist and feet)
Cultist system (find clues and uncover 40~ cultists for loot)

That's pretty much it. It sounds good on paper but all of it is pretty tedious ingame. They should have developed it for an extra year desu

AUTO LEVEL SCALING ENEMIES BRO... this feature pretty much ruins the game. Makes all your upgraded equipment feel useless against enemies. You can go off exploring and hit max level and you can feel all mighty powerful but then you go back to the starting island just to find out that even the scrub enemies are the Same level as you are. This is why origins is always better. No level scaling enemies. It gives you the feeling that you are a force to be reckoned with

bruh if you're so shit just turn off the level scaling, it's literally an option in the game menu, you can turn every enemy into a pussy faggot just as big as you are

I don't get people who bitch that vidya is ded or AAA games are shit now. This game, Spiderman, Blops 4, RE2 remake, DMC5, and Sekiro have all been fun. But I also just play games for one playthrough, and go weeks without playing stuff, so maybe the secret to enjoying shit is not to obsess over shit and take breaks a lot.

It runs way better than GR Wildlands from what I’ve seen. Though I imagine it’s CPU heavy due to the open world. I play on ultra with a 2080 and an i7 6700 and I have no performance issues.

Do origins. It will lead you into Odyssey better.
