It's a fucked situation. When Kratos opened Pandora's Box in the first game, the evils within infected the Gods. Zeus became a paranoid motehrfucker and tried to have Kratos killed, which prompted the whole revenge thing. 12:33

It's not like Zeus didn't give people a reason to hate him, he was always fucking with people. With Pandora, he got her to release evils upon humanity because of his everlasting hatred for humanity and he then imprisoned her. In Athenas case, I barely remeber any of her dialogue, something about the time of the Gods being over, who gives a shit she's some dead ascendant being. For Kratos, his brother was taken away, because Zeus was scared of a prophecy fortelling his death, and was tortured for decades. Kratos' mom was taken away and placed in some edge of the underworld spot, and when Kratos found her she was transformed into some abomination that Kratos had to kill. Despite all that shit, Kratos was content to be the new God of war, but Zeus wouldn't even let him do that. So then he wanted to kill Zeus, and anyone that got in the way was on the hit list. Let's not pretend like Zeus wasn't a piece of shit, because even the real-life myths present his as an irreedeamable dick head who was only considered good because of his God status. Realistically, Kratos had his reasons for killing him, and although Zeus wasn't evil, he wasn't good, and the death he got was entirely of his own actions.
