I still remember that dumb commercial of some guy backseat gaming over someone playing a PSP and telling him to dodge and use cluster bombs because the enemy is morphing.or some shit.

Thanks, I really appreciate your valuable opinion.

I loved ya little guy, you weren't perfect but I wouldn't have given you away for the world.
You were all heart and no soul, and you could have done some stuff better, but that doesn't matter now, what matters is that the time we spent together was invaluable, and you deserve to rest in peace for it.

Undeniably the best portable console ever made.

Game Boy Advance is right after it.

Absolutely disgusting.

My nig.

i already sold it, but i remember playing .hack//LINK on my hacked psp before it was fan translated, and i remember having a great time even thought i couldnt fully understand the story, sad that the psvita sucked and is now completely dead

btfo'd how will you recover?

This game was tremendously underrated.

What's the best PSP game? MonHun P3rd?

I fixed up my 2000 and Go with new batteries and gave the 2000 a new screen too.

And those are some of its mainstream games.

There are little autistic things I love about the PSP. The buttons were nice and thick and satisfying to press, Vitality Station buttons are shit and small. UMDs are such a cool and completely retarded format. I loved cozying up and feeling that whirr whirr in mybhands.

I like Porta Ops for its robust sneaking, based more on line of sight instead of an abstract invisibility index, but the story and writing are gutter trash, and PW has tons more polish and longevity.

There's a plugin for this and several other games that let you use the 2nd analog stick on the vita FYI

Burnout Legends was great

I never liked the controls in that. They felt like they were meant for an analog stick with more range of motion than the PSP.

fuck the PSP-1000. d-pad right and square button felt like shit, the screen was awful, and it was ginormous. I still loved it.

I still use my Vita part-time as a better PSP.

The motherboard on mine died or something does the Vita play both PSP and PS1 flawlessly?

That shit was cash.

I sold porn in elementary school using a PSP.

F

At least it was better than the DS version.

I still have the games and one movie for this, but no actual PSP.
Nonetheless, still a treasure.

I won't argue with that.

Burnout Dominator had PSP-tuned controls, by comparison, that made it much more accessible.

Plays PSP fine as far as I know, but apparently there's no popsloader on vita so it can't play every PS1 game.

Nintendo Switch shits on this garbage

My parents bought me one as a present 10 years ago, I still have it and ocasionally play on it (rarer this days since I got a Vita), god this console was way ahead of its time.

>PS2 ports on PSP made it GOAT

>But Switch? HAHAHA more like SHITCH with its PORTS HAHAHAHAHAHA

Why is the PSP great when all you ever used it for was playing old shit you already played on a better platform?

Its "minor" exclusives are pretty fun, what's the point of even mentioning the Switch though?

I think Sony makes really cool looking hardware.

none of those games are ports though, and the only one talking about the switch is you

>Dissidia on PS2
I wish

WOW!

I didn't know the PSP existed in 1987 when Final Fantasy released! That's AMAZING!

Was there a better pc PS1 emu than the PSP one back in the day?

Sony doubled down on games, which saved PSP. Sony dialed BACK on games, which killed the Vita.

Someone will reply to this

Attached: 1534730174685.jpg (577x770, 57K)

I'll buy a Switch just because it is the Vita I wanted.

You can emulate the original version, but that hardly counts as a port since it's unofficial

I used mine to look at porn more than playing games.
Good times.

>None of those are ports though

>List contains multiple ports

>tfw still have a first gen PSP all boxed in mint condition and probably used less than a dozen times

As Nintendo constantly proves, hardware doesn’t matter, only software.

What does that have to do with the official port of FFI released on the PSP?

psp is peak mid 2000s tech. a fucking handheld with optical drive. them japs were in the boardroom like hey lets not use cartridges or memory cards, how do we fucking fit a disc drive on this shit?

Lay it down on me.

1000, 2000, 3000, Go, or Adrenaline Vita?

>Astonishing hardware (for the time), poor library that just never got there
ftfy

If you're willing to put a bit more money down, get yourself a Vita. You get all the other handheld's libraries + better performing emulation capabilities and a better screen + dual analog. Otherwise get a psp 3000

Gotta milk as much money as possible from proprietary hardware so you can inflate prices somehow.

>MS Pro Duo
Cameras could use them, thus brought down prices
What device other than Vita can use the "vita cards"?
Exactly, none other, thus keeping a monopoly on them.

Its library was fine faggot, the real mystery is how the fuck Sony managed to repeat the history of the Sega Saturn on a handheld 17 years later with the Vita.

Attached: 1378845050216.jpg (558x564, 47K)

vita, because both the vita and psp have good libraries worth exploring.

selling games on 1gb flash memory cards wouldn't have been cost effective, but somehow using discs in a handheld was. It was a different time

Because Sony abandoned ship at the first sign of things going less than absolutely perfectly so vita never stood a chance because Sony never gave it a chance to.

Sony desperate to push their new shitty overpriced proprietary tech like always, it NEVER catches on or it backfires badly but the dumb asses try anyway.

The games listed there that were on PS2 were actually ported from PSP, bud.

>a fucking handheld with optical drive
Which was a terrible, terrible idea

Killed battery life, took up a ton of space in the unit and all the moving parts just brought more potential for parts failing

Here I thought I was the only one. Only reason I even had a psp to begin with.

>went through the colossal early PS3 failure
>can't give Vita a year
Did the people behind the PS3 getting back on its feet all died or something?

Only ever used mine for Monster Hunter, PS1 Classics and porn

Attached: UMD-La-Blue-Girl-Returns-USED-Front.jpg (600x1024, 467K)

Why was Naruto storm impact, the best game ever made, a psp exclusive?

1000 - Heavy, fat, ghosting and dpad somewhat shitty
2000 - ghosting, slim, light dpad somewhat better. Button and switch layout much better
3000 - scanlines, slim, light and screen extra bright. Dpad somewhat better.
Go - has internal memory and cool sliding feature
Street - trash
Adrenaline - Has software filters, save states on PSP games. Some issues with running PSX games unlike on the actual PSP but are rare. Double sticks and vita games. Resolution upscales on some games.

>Its library was fine faggot
So the "world's best portable" had a library that was just "fine"? Not how I'd choose to describe the library of the "world's best portable."

Like half its library was Japan-only because that's the only place that software actually sold, and a lot of that was low-budget VN anime shit. It wasn't ahead of its time, it was a bloated mess that tried to push awful proprietary media that sold primarily to people who either wanted the above weebshit or wanted to play old PS1 and Nintendo games on it.

Psp 1000 is the best handheld ever made don't talk to me faggot

you had to put it into perspective from when the console was in development. flash storage was no where close to where it needed to be to hold large amounts of data.

right? like wtf

Kind of wish I still had mine, do still have my psp go though which is nice to play at times

The PS3 lost billions of dollars, they had to try to make that back, they couldn't just tell their investors
>lol sorry, we'll totally not do that with the next $4 billion you give us :^)
and cutting or scaling back shit that wasn't selling (PSP/Vita) was a first step.

The PS4 was a runaway success immediately. Why out effort into something when you can be lazy all gen and make huge bucks? This gen's output from Sony has sucked because they're not hungry anymore. They don't need to try.

Right, Sony thought UMD would take off and they wanted to use PSP as the stepping stone to that end. They had big plans for UMD, and they all crashed and burned.

They could have just used carts.

I still remember all the porn sites that had the option to download video in mp4 format so you could enjoy hentai on PSP. Sweet times. My parents had strict parental controls on the family PC too and I was too dumb to get around it at the time. So my PSP was porn central as a kiddo.

They're not trying because trying involves taking risks.

PS3 lost literal billions of dollars, their plan for PS4 was to just make that back, and they more or less have. PS4 played it as safely as possible and introduced new revenue in the form of mandatory PS+ and other digital services. Its why its library is padded so densely with re-releases and ports, it was all about playing it safe and making back the massive PS3 losses.

aren't sony almost broke with the exception of their console division? They live and die by that sector.

All they had to do was give the Vita an SD slot, HDMI output and the XMB and it might have had a fucking chance

Attached: vita.jpg (600x337, 20K)

Yeah, that was kind of my point. They're making tons of money, they have no reason to experiment or try new things.

>be in hs
>looking at my 2d waifus at lunch
>some faggot screams "HEY HES LOOKING AT PORN!"
>say no im not
>he says "I SAW IT"
>I said nah youre blind if you think this shits porn
>he regresses and nothing happens

>.hack//LINK
Thanks for reminding of the worst .hack game with the worst protagonist of all fucking time.

Attached: image.jpg (449x518, 83K)

No, Sony is making a killing in the financial services department, especially in the insurance sector. Also Sony is still a major player in the music industry and owns lots of record labels and has partial ownership in vevo. They are one of the most profitable Japanese companies at the moment.

ey yo where'd you get that persona 4 skin

Attached: 1498781090195.png (396x390, 131K)

>They're making tons of money
Again, after losing literal billions.

I'm not downplaying the success of the PS4, but you can't say Sony is insanely profitable when they've spent the last few years digging the Sony game division out of a hole.

Attached: 1530651710773.png (960x576, 28K)

All they had to do was put in an SD card slot and I would have bought it day one.

What's your favorite handheld?

Japanese government didn't gave them more money

Mine still works but I used it more as a portable emulator.

the switch is shit compared to the ds and psp.

At least microSD adapters existed for the MSPD, allowing you to not get fucked in the ass by Sony.

Attached: 2D9032E5-779A-49BF-8864-D5408BD1BBDD.jpg (600x832, 197K)

I literally only ever played Patapon and Locoroco 2 on my PSP. Any other games I should check out?

Well, favorite isn't the same as best.

My favorite is probably the original Gameboy, but the best might have to be the DS since it plays both DS and GBA games natively and had a large and extremely varied library. I try to judge them based on their own libraries and exclusives when possible, but obviously backward compatibility and hacking/emulation are big draws too.

not sure what point you're trying to make. They both use proprietary storage, and they both have unofficial SD adapters.

it's okay when certain other companies do it.

Attached: F4018D58-7A0F-46D7-9835-4863818A843D.jpg (725x468, 69K)

is hacking the vita retard proof like the 3ds?
might get one for a comfy emu machine

>Carts are the same proprietary memory cards
Yeah I'm sure the N64 could have just had an SD card slot :^)

FUNFACT: Sony's discs are proprietary too

no, but they could have used cds. that would have meant giving up on the $19 nintendo tax and having less control over third parties' games, though.

me and my katamari
twisted metal world tour
metal gear portable ops
final fantasy war of the lions
final fantasy dissidia 012

>no, but they could have used cds
Of course, and they should have, The N64 was just a poorly-designed console.

But this is in no way comparable to proprietary memory cards in the age of standardized cards, like SD cards. There is/was a readily available, cheap alternative to the Vita's proprietary memory cards, N64s carts were just expensive to make. Nintendo didn't have standardized carts available that they chose to not use, like Sony did with the Vita and its memory cards. Carts were always proprietary for every platform. And again, Sony's discs are proprietary too, guess who Nintendo would have had to pay to use them? Its why the Wii U also didn't use blu-ray discs, they're proprietary.
