stamina doesn't mean much, because the way they designed most of the enemies, you get punished for doing the wrong "counter" (dodge/jump/parry)

Enemies don't stagger, or at least you can never be sure that they will, so it doesn't make it much easier.
But, you can interrupt your own attacks to throw up a block/parry, so constantly swinging is usually a good strategy.

No stamina but you can get easily 1-3 shotted by most bosses and mini-bosses. The entire point of combat is basically to never get hit. It's more fun but way harder than Dark Souls. You can't just grind and level up to beat bosses you are stuck on too, you have to get good.

Personally I really like the cooler bossfights were It's a block parry battle between you and some other samurai dude. It actually feels like a 1v1 unlike the dodge fiesta that is souls but there's nothing wrong with that.

From an outside perspective, this game just looks more refined while fulfilling the same purpose. Hold O to complete the fight scene properly, or spam x/whatever button, while also spamming dodge button at the right times, to complete the fight scene in a less satisfying and broken way. Both are the same shitty combat systems, depending on buggy hitboxes and the classic safe zones while completing kill animations. Obviously the latter is more difficult, but it's like reading a book backwards and claiming you enjoy it better because it's more difficult to do.

Looks pretty cool. Nice kill too. Memes aside though Nioh still has the best combat of any Soulsborne game out there. Hopefully Nioh 2 finds a way to prevent builds from being absolutely broken and just finds a way to make the good combat the main stay of the game. i honestly feel more safe deflecting than using jump or dodge about 90% of the time. with deflect, i know that even if i fail the timing that i still block, and while that's disastrous for one's own posture it's better than eating vitality damage on a fucked up roll or jump. deflect has been designed such that it is the defacto defensive option of the game (enemies even have major tracking on their sword swings because the intent is not for you to DODGE said moves but to deflect them). you'll notice that the problem with both the webms i linked in is that there is zero deflecting going on. people are refusing to learn the basic defensive mechanic and then bitching that the game is too hard.

hitting them when they block is good, it drains their posture and not much of yours. however most enemies will block you once and then start parrying you which will fuck up your posture.

It's pretty easy to dodge it if he does it while you're further away from him, but if you're close, I literally have no idea what to do, since dodging to the side just ends up with him snapping to you.

I wish every fight in the game was like this. Against some bosses the dodge just doesn't work and you have to parry. And sometimes the parry is useless and you have to dodge. And then there are the attacks you have to jump over, or mikiri counter. The only way to figure out which is to die a few times, accumulating Dragonrot. Not sure what the fuck they were thinking desu. DaS3 was a boring rollfest but at least the roll always worked - if you got hit, it's because you didn't roll right.

Today I started the game and decided to take it slow and learn how to play it properly. I was getting my ass handed to me yesterday by O'rin and I thought I'd need a shit ton of luck to beat her. Today I finally paid attention and learned that you could kick enemies in the head with a double jump so I took my time and paid attention to my posture and I literally demolished her.

Though it still took like 5 minutes to kill her because in this game you can only react to the bosses so I had to wait for her to come at me to get a chance to damage her. That's the my biggest gripe with this game so far, either you stand there and wait for the bosses to attack so you can parry or you're fucked, save a few exceptions.

Great game btw, just need to be patient and learn how to play it properly. It's not even that difficult once you do know how to play.

Clearly overleveled and fighting some early game enemies. The combat in XV is fucked, but most things can 2-4 shot you.

just use your brain. you're not expected to parry swipe attacks and grabs, pierce attack can be deal with but require skill. huge enemies will drain your posture with one hit so you better dodge. game is always giving you visual sign when there is going to be unblockable attack. enemies with different weapons require different strategy but after you learn how to deal with one enemy it's the same shit for the rest of the game. there are basically 2 strategies, to stay close and parry everything or stay far and go in where there's opportunity to hit, dodge to make distance, repeat.

this webm is literally no different from how combat in souls works, in souls just add stamina and lower enemy health

The animation for the grab actually being performed is janky because it snaps to Sekiros position instead of Sekiro snapping to ogres position (a very reasonable change because snapping the player even a few centimetres causes player desync), not the grab animation.

It actually is easy compared to the first bosses. They really stacked the odds against him to get you ready for the other miniboss on the other side of that wall.
You can do a large chunk of damage while he is in his opening animation of breaking out of restraints.
If you use fire then you get like a 5 second opening to attack him.
If you just jump around him he uses this rush attack that does significant posture damage which allows you to one shot that phase by just running around until he tires himself out.
There isn't anything difficult about him so you can really style on him to get good at dodging and parrying.

Juzo honestly isn't that bad, run around taking out all of his mobs one by one and once it's just you and the drunk fuck go and grab the NPC to gank the fuck out of him.

If you want to make it even easier wait for juzo to default, get a stealth stab on him and then grab your npc pal.

Clear the enemies and then talk to the guy that helps you

If you weren't invincible for deathblows it would completely ruin the combat. Deathblows are the way you kill an enemy AFTER you break their posture, so there's nothing stopping you from getting gang-banged before then, when NOT stuck in an animation.

To get them off on enemies who aren't aware of you; you need to be above, behind, or below them. And it one shots. Is it easier to pull off? Yes. But that's the point, because each area is filled to the brim with a lot of enemies. If you don't take advantage of stealth like in this webm then you'll easily get fucked.

What a dumb argument, you can one shot enemies in dark souls if you're over-leveled as well (which you can be at this point of the game in sekiro). In dark souls you don't even need to worry about doing the "cool moves" either. You could just roll out after killing an enemy.

I know you can't switch weapons in Sekiro ala Bloodborne/Souls, but do you have any options to acquire heavy-hitting attacks/playstyles? In all of the gameplay I've seen, it seems like you're a wielding a toothpick that needs to slice at the opponent's HP for minutes before finally being able to kill them. Otherwise it looks fun, but that point alone makes me wonder if the combat could become tedious.

The step dodge in this game is an actual hop, I can believe that its a jump over the blade because corrupted monk basically skids the floor with his low sweep strikes. However its hard to tell/believe for you because the camera is looking down instead of being leveled

The changes to your attacks are based off a few things

Hold down r1 for a thrust attack instead of a slice.
Step dodge and press r1 for a spinning horizontal.
Various moves hitting R1 directly after using a prosthetic.
Combat arts that involve hitting l1 to go into a defensive stance and then hitting r1 (a large sweep attack, a charged downward slice that staggers, etc)
Jump attacks

They are fun and effective to use but very few people, if you watch them, aren't utilizing them because on a first playthrough you are focusing more on the enemy than yourself

Demon and Guardian Ape feel the most like Souls bosses out of the whole game, and really could have been slapped into DaS3 and fit fine. Constantly dodging on their ass, running away from the close range AOE thing that might insta kill you, roll around the legs on the Demon.

Test it out yourself, when you see a mikiri counterable attack coming for everyone just spam the dodge button like you're playing Simpsons arcade and you'll 99% of the time get the counter. This also makes you glue to the enemy rather than accidentally dodge out of the attacks way. This isn't a fighting game where they punish and leave your hitbox open for whiffing counters, as long as that attack lands at any point of you mashing the dodge button you got it.

The combat is really not clicking for me. It feels like the entire combat system is based around the single worst part of the Souls series as time went on, which is every enemy having attacks with bizarre wind-ups solely to throw off your defensive timing.

play this when I'm stoned and have been breezing through. The problem is you're not paying attention to combat mechanics otherwise you'd realize that regardless of the enemy, almost everything is telegraphed and 90% of the attacks in this game can be dodged. I'm not going to spoonfeed you, but start playing without using the lock on and learn how to play that way. It's so much easier

I'm 5 bosses in and is there seriously no different ways of attacking in this game? It's just Left Click, Left Click, Left Click over and over again. The charging attack does the exact same damage as normal strike, but takes 50% longer so not sure why it's in there.

There's no downside to reviving, it is there to do two things:
1)If you are in over your head, worried about dragonrot spread and can back down (i.e no fog wall), you can run away and rest at the idol and restore your ressurection
2) If you are confidant that you can beat the enemy and/or super close to getting the deathblow, you get another shot

I don't know if you're being serious, but that's the cause to almost every issue people are experiencing.

This game just makes me realize I always seem to reach a point in FromSoft games where I just had fucking enough.

The first few hours of playtime and the starting areas are always the best, I enjoy them a lot but the more I progress throughout the game, the more I noticed I keep staring at the clock whenever I keep died and noticing how much time I'm wasting on it, it's nerve wrecking. Every time I progress further into the game and get closer to the late bosses, I barely ever feel great about it, it just makes me feel miserable and I wish the game to just be over yet, to finish the damn cluster fuck already, but I don't know why I feel like that though.

The actual circuits of the card are much more optimized with much more capability to carry out more "work" with less instructions, and just to carry out instructions faster. It is not just because of the card's RAM. Literally the physical build and circuitry is innately inferior.

Depends on how fast will you learn patterns and reflexes needed by bosses, because there's nothing even remotely, slightly challenging except boss fights in this game, and world is far too small to spend much time exploring.

Can someone tell me what is the point of the "vault" skill? The game says it's so you "can backstab deathblow the enemy" but it's only usable on posture-broken enemies which means you can just deathblow them from the front. Why would you ever use this?

It's a bit dark but you'll know you're going the right way once you see a sculptor's idol next to a cage. Swim down the river, get past the patrols and you'll find an elevator that leads to Senpou Temple, Mt. Kongo.

dont listen to that other user, DmC isn't nearly as bad as people make it out to be. just make sure you play the definitive edition and turn on hardcore mode and turbo. as for the original series, get the HD Collection and play 1 and 3 and then get 4 Special Edition. after all that then you can play 4. story order is 3, 1, 4, 5 if you're curious. we all pretend 2 doesn't exist because it's fucking awful, but you can pla it for a good laugh

no. the hitbox is around his giant hands which are attempting to grab you. running into his hands connects with the hitbox. the problem occurs when the animation needs to play out for the grab- spending hours and hours designing a different animation for each angle of grab is a waste of time from a studio's perspective. it's just how vidya works.

sure, and a well-timed dodge will get you out of the way. most of the people are dodging way too early or too late which is why they get shitter filtered. almost always easier to jump instead of dodge

i only use dodge to close distance or when im against multiple enemies and I need to back out quickly. 1v1 there is no need to dodge.

dodge is bait in 90% of fights, only good for closing distance to get a slash in

So your idea of great combat is big flashy combos. Not shitting on Ninja Gaiden, that game was fucking amazing and the combat was satisfying as fuck but there is a very clear difference in design philosophy in its combat. Timing and precision aren't all that important in that game compared to raw positioning. It isn't like those moves took very much skill to pull off, it just looked cool. As someone who likes fightan games, to call the combat because it isn't as flashy or you use one button to do your damage instead of two, or you don't get to mash buttons in a certain order to do massive AoE damage is kind of funny. I like ninja gaiden's combat, but it's very clearly a different combat style.

not really. i'd suggest you still play it just to see why everyone hates it though, but save that for after you've played everythign else or whenever you're bored. it has a few unitentionally funny mements that are worth seeing anfd the ost is pretty good. also, if you play it you'll be able to participate in our memeing

Oh I dont disagree, I'm just saying that the game pretty much sets players up to fail if they abide by it's advice. Half of the grabs in the game can't even be i-framed anyways, since their hitbox lingers for so long. About the only practical use for dodging is to sidestep certain attacks if their either nonpunishable on deflect, or you just want to build Vit damage.
