Japan Studio doesn't have "sales expctations". They are a R&D studio within Sony whose purpose is to test new stuff and promote new platforms
Gravity Rush was meant to test the Vita and showcase its possibilities. After that the director asked Sony if he could make a sequel on the much more powerful PS4, and they greenlit it because it was a passion project

More people will enjoy BB than GR2 but I still had a shitton of fun with it. Just fucking around in the world and messing out with the gravity powers is some of the most fun I had this gen, but I get other people might not find that kind of stuff fun and just want a more straightforward experience.

I've been playing Gravity Rush Remastered again to complete some of the challenges I didn't when I finished the game. I know that a lot of people complain about the controls in Gravity Rush 2 but, holy cow, the camera and controls in GR2 are so much better than in GRR. I don't know if I'll be able to force myself to complete all the challenges to get the platinum trophy in GRR.

BTW, the online high scores for GRR are still up. I guess keeping track of only high score requires far less resources than high scores and Kat ghosts in GR2.

I honestly don't know. We get an image of a black-haired fusion of Kat that implies they're connected, but that isn't even what Kat looked like before she fell from the tower.

And the Raven DLC shows us an image that implies that Sachya was found as an infant before she discovered her powers, so I just assumed that it was Kat's shifting powers that split in half when she fell, and latched onto both of them in the form of Dusty and the the crow Xii. So I prefer to interpret it as them being two separate people connected by chance, but the whole explanation isn't very well told either way.

I think it was commentary on how the world is so quick to move on to new things, especially in times of crisis where a new hero steps up to take the spotlight.

Story wise, both GR1 and 2 have a lot of asspulls. It can be messy, thrown together and in the moment. However, I’m willing to overlook it just because I really enjoy the game physics and flinging Kat all around.

I heard there is a glitch in the Vita version that allows you to go outside the bounds and explore Neu Hiraeleon. Never tried it myself though. I don’t even have that version of the game.

Like the gameplay is a step up and there's more stuff to waste time with in the overworld (or at least there used to be, RIP photo sharing) but the story is even more nonsense and the mission gameplay is AWFUL. The combat isn't that great either, enemies are just ridiculous damage sponges and the boss fights last forever (easy should have been the only difficulty). Also jurga durga purga is a clusterfuck and not fun to navigate, like just fly between tiny islands and get lost in the bad way, Hekseville is was more fun to navigate.

True. If you equip Kat with the better talismans (Almight, Destroyer, etc.), the regular game becomes a real breeze. Even in the Delvool Trench Mine, if you equip Kat with the right talismans, you can defeat the final level (Elecktricitie) with about 8 kicks. The most difficult boss in the Delvool Trench is probably bloated Kali Angel.

I can't tell if you're complaining about the focus on 'cinematic games' (when, lets be real, they're often the best for showing consumers how powerful their hardware can be) when you've also bought RDR2

I don't think the story in GR2 was more nonsense, but I did think the whole Rich vs Poor subplot that doesn't really go anywhere in the end was kind of bland compared to everything that happens in Hekseville. It's cool that they wanted to introduce a new environment and some new characters, but I wish we could have skipped more of the Robin Hood part of the story in favor of focusing more on Kat's backstory, or on Alias and the Creators, or the two lost scientists, or why Yunica has robo legs.

They ran out of time in the first game and had to cut Neu Hiraeleon and the Eto Chapter. Fortunately they were able to make a sequel to finish Kat's story but creating all of the content in Jirga Para Lhao and Hekseville probably made them unable to make a fully explorable Eto too.

There's a ton of detailed concept art showing Neu Hiraeleon and all of the areas it would've had but it's not even reachable in GR1.

In the grand scheme of things the Jirga Para Lhao stuff is basically filler, but they wouldn't have had enough new content to make GR2 on PS4 if they just set it in the same Hekseville again and Eto.

So I can understand why the devs wanted to push the envelop and develop a new location to pull in new audiences, it's a shame that most of the actual sequel to GR1 only starts in act 3 with the Brahman stuff and then Eto is tacked on at the end.

A fair amount of story and areas were cut in GR1 especially, Kat was supposed to go to Eto at the end of the first game, there's concept art in the early previews of Elektricitie and King Cai back in like 2009.

The Professor and his Wife were a part of the first games main plot too, Kat was supposed to save them and then visit their lab and he'd explain the black hole beneath the pillar to her or some shit, but that storyline never even got resolved in 2.

Gravity Rush has got to have some of most vague lore in gaming, they don't make much of an effort to explain shit. I kind of like the mystery of it all, it does at to the world's atmosphere.
