You literally don't even know what you're talking about though. A vulnerability != a "virus". They're drastically separate things. And nobody has said they're going to "magically sprout", they've stated in very clear terms "We aren't patching any more security flaws". That means that come Janurary 2020, if someone finds a vulnerability, and people are constantly looking, then Microsoft will do nothing about it.

Vulnerabilities don't even have to involve programs. They can just be a simple as a memory leak or a glitch in the coding that attackers can use to gain a foothold into your system. Facebook, for example, had a vulnerability a while back where someone could get your password through a time stamp, using nothing more than a script. Chrome recently had a vulnerability that got patched out less than 2 weeks ago where they could upload and inject any code they wanted into your system. This isn't even talking about shit like heartbleed. Around the same time, Google ALSO reported a Zero-day that was specific to Windows 7 that let them do the same thing, and you LITERALLY JUST HAD TO BE SITTING THERE ON THE INTERNET FOR IT TO WORK. I honestly don't even know if Microsoft went around to patch it yet.

I miss Silverlight. As one of probably only a handful of developers who ever used it, it was a pleasure to work with. WPF makes it wonderfully easy to pull together a UI. It's a shame it's all React on mobiles nowadays. Xamirin never really took off.

No I mean it literally just runs worse as a base. 8.x was Window's attempt to try and corner the tablet market when iPads were the hip new thing, so they're structured from the ground up to be tablet ready first, computers second. Just even starting a new profile in 8.x takes upwards of 10 minutes. In Windows 7/10, that shit takes less than 1, often less than 30 seconds. It's just really, really poorly constructed and wildly abandoned by almost everyone.

The issue was with people who used OneDrives new fancy feature to move personal files to its folders. Some people choose not to move them and in their wisdom MS didn't expect that to happen and removed old "unused" folders without prompting. And by their own admission this because is because different departments at MS don't communicate at all to others what they are doing.

Yup. The 1809 update when it first came out made a mistake and would nuke the user's documents. Luckily, that shit was held back so it only hit a small portion of people who were basically actually clicking the update button on purpose, but it was a disaster.

You're going to get that with anything that updates though. Even Linux outright says "hey, there could be an update that could bork your system, so you shouldn't click this auto-update button unless you're backed up or good at unborking". In fact, I think maybe 8 months ago, Ubuntu was holding back their latest version because they found a system-bricking bug in their code or something and had to fix it before they could roll it out.

Most of these updates are typically labelled as other types of updates though, and security updates are generally labelled separately and should be applied immediately in all circumstances. Short of insider leak, there will never be a case of a security update compromising security further in a known way upon release.

I've never paid for any OS. I always just found a copy and a keygen to activate it. But I would gladly pay if Microsoft would boycott Win10 and instead improve and update Win7. It was the only OS worth paying for (aside from XP)

Mint reports that it's similar, but I feel like it's more closer to older Windows like XP. I would say go ahead and just look into what is the most popular and well supported. Things like Manjaro and Ubuntu are pretty user friendly.
In this order, I would try out:
Ubuntu
Linux Mint Cinnamon
Manjaro

The problem is that Linux is a kernel and not an OS in itself, and you have a gorillion different OSes based on that kernel that don't work the same exact way. What happens is some developer tries to make a linux port for their game and ends up either only getting it to work on one/some distros and says they're finished working on the linux port, or they give up because nobody sane would actually sink in the resources needed to make the game compatible with every single linux distro under the sun, especially when linux distro users only make up a vastly insignificant percentage of the market.

I mentioned that I pretty much get by on a part time job and building people PCs on the side to my in game guild once and one of the guys asked how much modding experience I had. 2 weeks later that guy had a massive Skyrim folder and I had 500 more dollars. Ill charge $20 for a list of parts that are guaranteed to work if they aren't defective. You'd be shocked how often people just want this and then they take it to their boyfriend or son to actually build instead of me because I charge money and they don't. Otherwise I ask for the money before I give them their newly built PC.

I game on Linux, and have exclusively for three years now. My new gaming rig has never seen a windows install. I only support titles that run natively in Linux. Linux gaming is not a joke or a meme. It is very real.

Depends on the system, time it takes to build, honestly if the customer is just kind of a dillhole about the process I'll add another $20. I don't like to make hard and fast numbers because I know shit happens and its not their fault. Typically 15% of the cost of the PC is close to what I'm asking, but do your own market research into the area and see if there are other people offering similar services first. I live in Bumfuck, USA so no one really knows shit about computers out here so its nice and easy.
