Literally just finished binging Steins;Gate today.
First half was kind of boring and long-winded, with frequent breaks for everyone to just be a boring archetype that pandered to weebs in the most pathetic way.
Second half was vaguely more interesting, but again they just padded the whole thing out so much. Okabe fucks around so much doing shit that doesn't matter. I felt like they forgot about SERN completely, and then right at the end went "oh yeah, also Okabe kills SERN with this keikaku, surprise". I thought the show was going to be about Okabe figuring out how to take down SERN, fighting off time paradoxes and figuring out who he needs to send what message to where to get the result he needs.
Instead of was a sub-par slice of life anime with shitty archetypal characters to pander to weebs. Whole thing could have been wrapped up in 12 episodes.

Kurisu and Okabe at least had some chemistry. Their scenes together were the only tolerable parts of the character interactions, I'll give the show that.

Death isn't one of the fixtures unless you're someone important to the structure of an entire attractor field, like Okabe, Kurisu, and Suzuha.
Moeka got her time of death locked and unlocked entirely within the alpha attractor field because she isn't important to the shape of the future at all. Either she lives a long life failing to find the IBN5100 or she finds it and her Rounder branch is neutralized from their successful mission, leading to her suicide.
Mayuri, however, is someone critically important to Okabe's future behaviors. Her death is a catalyst in Okabe's life. Okabe is critical to the shape of three attractor fields and probably effectively all of them due to the effects of his perfect Reading Steiner. Kurisu is important to the shape of the future due to her knowledge of temporal mechanics enabling the construction of a time machine (which in Beta gets called the Nakabachi Thesis).
Things that critically affect these characters are things that convergence will fix, because their future behavior determines what shape the entire world takes. They're that important.

It's not bad, but it was disappointing. I would describe it as "lost potential". You can see that halfway through the authors realized that the thing they were building towards can't really be done unless they restructure all of VN so they just rolled with what they had. Plus, there were a few themes and concepts it touched upon but that never went through with them.
