Ninja Games

Sekiro has me in a ninja mood. Are the Tenchu games all good? Any recommended starting point?

>Are the Tenchu games all good?
None of them are "good", but they're still among my favorite games of all time. Make of that what you will.

>Any recommended starting point?
tl:dr, play...
Tenchu 1 Stealth Assassins
Tenchu 2 Birth of the Stealth Assassins
Tenchu Wrath of Heaven/Return from Darkness
Tenchu Fatal Shadows if you liked the above
Tenchu Z

Longer version, start from the start.
The first game is amazing, the second less so in my opinion but a lot of people like it best.
The third game is Wrath of Heaven, which also got a release on Xbox with more content as Return from Darkness (I recommend the latter if you have access to an OG Xbox) then check out Fatal Shadows as well, it's more of the same with new characters/levels, but the same engine.

You can give the PSP games a miss, stuff like Time of the Assassins is just more recycled Wrath of Heaven/Fatal Shadows content for handheld.

Don't bother with Shadow Assassins on PSP or Wii, it was some shitty linear horrible Ubisoft thing.

And definitely check out Tenchu Z if you have an Xbox 360, mechanically the best Tenchu game by far.

This is a pretty good post. You need to play Tenchu 1 regardless. It's a cult classic and has in my opinion aged really well. Tenchu 3 is also a game that holds up really well today. The games released after WoH are harder to recommend though.

Wrath of Heaven (PS2/Xbox)
Shinbido PS2

Yeah, they're pretty good, though I think the series largely declined in quality as it progressed. The first game is my favorite one by far, but I still enjoyed 2, Wrath of Heaven, and Fatal Shadows.

Shinibido is SO fucking close to being amazing, but the controls are all kinds of fucked.

Tenchu's movement is tankish, but the controls and movement are precise, Shinobido is just so fast and loose it gets super awkward at times, not to mention the camera controls when crouched are actually broken with an addition y axis input for some reason when you're just trying to look left/right.

Sekiro has me wishing Sekiro was a Tenchu game and not some horrible Tenchu/Souls abomination.

youtube.com/watch?v=gZdno-EIYFY

you are not alone on this, bro

Tenchu:SA is one of the best games of all time but the rest are all worthless trash.

It's impossible to hate Wrath of Heaven if you liked SA. But yeah SA is the best.

Nah I legit hated WoH when it released and SA was and is one of my all time favourite games.
The emphasis on linear, funneled level design vs the open levels was the biggest killer for me, not to mention WoH was jam packed full of absolutely useless moves/techniques all focused on combat which was absolutely ass and should never be the focus of a Tenchu game.
I don't hate WoH as much as I did on release, but i'm so fucking thankful that we got Tenchu Z.

I mean I don't hate Sekiro, but it just feels like it's trying to do two different things and neither exceptionally well.

Did a run of this recently, playing as ayame first. Spent most of the time wondering why everyone was such so bitchy to her (does get you an extra boss though). Then I did rikimartin and spent the whole time thinking "wow, ayame is kind a bitch." Still an excellent game though even with something like pic related. Fucking 90`s.

Attached: party on senpai.png (1018x762, 249K)

Voice acting is one of the highlights of the game.

youtu.be/lPwWc0GyN0s?t=197

Don't forget the mocap.
youtube.com/watch?v=GKWpagWQFGI

Ayame is a trash character with terrible VA. Rikimaru is the canon choice.

This might be a good thread to ask in, i've been working on an open source, extremely mod friendly game akin to Tenchu Z for PC for a while now and the core of the Tenchu experience is there, but is there anything people would like to see that hasn't been done in a Tenchu game before?

I've currently got alarm/alert systems that escalate a levels awareness/readiness and locks down VIP's, as well as the ability to light fires to cause distractions/evacuate buildings and things like dogs being able to get under buildings, but any other suggestions/ideas would be more than welcome.

Between the tenchus, metal gears, splinter cells and thief it really feels like stealth gameplay is a very thoroughly explored genre to the point where nothing is left untried. I wish you luck on your game at least.

Saying that though, I would ask you to rip off the seduction thing from red ninja because user always thinks with his dick. Bonus points for making boss`s have unique reactions to it. Hell, bonus for making bosses beatable by stealth (lets say they are demons or magic armored or whatever so you have to successfully stealth them 3 times to make them actually killable with there behavior and abilities improving with each hit)

youtube.com/watch?v=J23oMSk1h8o

I'm currently keeping an eye on this, it releases pretty soon so I'm stoked.
youtu.be/54ucHXQPjz4

Also OP, check out Mark of the Ninja if you haven't already.

Attached: 1550970127655.gif (230x230, 180K)

Tenchu is garbage boomer trash that people pretend is good.
Onimusha>>>>

yeah most of them are good you just need to not be a zoomer and be able to deal with how controls were back then

Tenchu aged pretty badly because of the tank controls, but it was amazing in the late 90s

Tenchu's controls are kino, they're mechanically precise and exacting, all it needs is a better camera setup.

>Mark of the Ninja
I came here to recommend this as well, top ninjacore game.

My only issue with ps1 tenchu is the draw distance and some abusable items like the poison food.

Mini Ninjas is an overlooked masterpiece.

Why is he so perfect.

Attached: Tesshu.jpg (638x482, 59K)

Not a Tenchu fan, but I've played most of them.
>Tenchu 1 - draw distance put me off
>Tenchu 2 - draw distance is still bad
>Tenchu 3 - first Tenchu I actually liked, probably the beset in the series
>Fatal Shadows - very similar to Tenchu 3, just not as good
>Tenchu Z - mechanically the best, but too repetitive
>Shadow Assassins - casualized Tenchu, the worst in the series, skip at all cos

it's a bitch to run though

>when people recommend the first game in the series just because they want others to suffer through mediocrity like they did instead of just getting them to play the very best first
Ultimate cringe

The first game is the best game, it was literally all downhill from there.

this guy watches Fortnite streams.

If you'd have to play only one Tenchu game, I'd recommend Wrath of Heaven. The games that came before it are good, but might feel a bit outdated today.
Fatal Shadows is more of the same, so if you liked WoH you might like this one as well.
Shinobido: Way of the Ninja is a sort of a spiritual successor to the Tenchu games, but keep in mind that it only came out in Japan and PAL regions.

Other ninja games I'd recommend checking out: Shinobi and Nightshade.

Attached: shinobi.webm (614x344, 2.62M)

Aragami's supposed to be heavily inspired by Tenchu so give that a go once you're finished.

Tenchu 2 has debilitating slow down so try to play it on an emulator over genuine hardware.

Tenchu's controls are extremely solid. It plays better than modern Ubishit games with 10 million start up frames. The only time you get fucked is when you get cornered and that is going to be your fault.

Stealth Assassin's is far from mediocre you shit. It's probably the PSX game that has aged best next to SOTN.

>the satisfying bone popping sounds from his stealth kills

Attached: 1551077930076.jpg (650x752, 47K)

I actually can't think of a good ninja game that's come out this past generation

Tenchu 1 has an underrated OST tho.

Only underrated by those who've never head it.

People seem to forget that there is also Shinobido 2, but it's Vita exclusive. It's pretty much best Tenchu.

Attached: 2226904-box_shinobido2.png (879x960, 762K)

Tenchu 2 has the level editor that my friend and I put a ridiculous amount of hours into as kids.

It doesn't hold up today but at the time the game was amazing just because of that.

No it's not, it's not even a great Shinobido sequel, and Shinobido didn't hold a candle to Tenchu.

Tenchu 1 had a level editor and a full debug mode that let you edit the main missions as well.

True story.

Should've done something like that for Sekiro instead of generic Jap instruments.

>It plays better than modern Ubishit games with 10 million start up frames
Thank fuck ubi aren't the only ones making games huh? What a pathetic coping comparison

Tenchu Z was fucking awesome and no one will be able to change my mind.

It plays better than countless modern games. The combat is extremely solid for a game that's all about stealth.

>And definitely check out Tenchu Z if you have an Xbox 360, mechanically the best Tenchu game by far.
>Best mechanically
>Rewarded for NOT killing enemies
>Only get grandmaster for NOT killing enemies

OK retard.

I knew about debug mode, but it has a editor too?

It's almost like the point of a stealth game is to leave no evidence you were ever there or somthing...

First of all there is no Grandmaster rank in Tenchu Z, it uses a numerical ranking system.
Secondly, that's actually the complete opposite of how the ranking system works in Tenchu Z, and it's perhaps my biggest gripe that you can get spotted, and still manage a perfect Ninja 5 ranking, the highest in the game, by simply padding out your score with extra stealth kills.
Thirdly, starting with Tenchu 1 you could get a perfect "Grandmaster" rating by killing the bosses and no one but the bosses, so i'm not even sure what the fuck you're talking about.

You must be a special kinda of retarded given not one thing you pointed out was actually factually correct.

>Thirdly, starting with Tenchu 1 you could get a perfect "Grandmaster" rating by killing the bosses and no one but the bosses
>mfw I got the ninja armor by using this

I think Wrath of Heaven is my favourite Tenchu. Had a surprisingly fleshed out multiplayer mode too, split screen where you could play as the various enemies from story mode.

I always liked that they didn't have like, written out movesets, but you could recreate a lot of the attacks they did during their bossfights by using inputs the characters have in SP (I.E, Onikage could do a couple of unblockable grabs, Tatsumaru got a sick rush attack etc)

I got fucking hours out of that with my friends in High School. Tenchu Z was pretty fun as well, even if the story was a bit lacking.

me and my brother would just play the Wrath of Heaven split-screen all the time, I don't think I ever bothered to get past the second level of single-player

Yeap, Tenchu 1 had four entirely different physical releases, each with more content than the last, and one indeed included an editor, it's called Tenchu: Shinobi Gaisen, they even released a game called Tenchu: Shinobi Hyakusen which was nothing but fan made levels.

If you're a Tenchu fan I highly recommend getting a copy of both, still cheap to buy on Ebay etc

You're dumb as fuck, every Tenchu game has always rewarded stealth, Tenchu Z is no different, Tenchu Z also used a Ninja 1-5 ranking system and Tenchu Z is without a doubt THE best mechanically of the series.

Tenchu 1 and 2 are great. After that, the series went to shit.

Not him, but me and my sister did pretty much the same, shame only one of us could pick Rikimaru, since he was the one we both knew how to play, I ended up having to play with Tesshu, I remember trying to use his charge punch a lot.

My nigger.

>Don't bother with Shadow Assassins on PSP
>shitty and linear
Super wrong scrub

They are indeed shitty wagglan, QTE monstrosities and are painfully linear, how was he wrong?

Huh, I think I had the last one, was the one with 100-ish levels right? I remember we had a disk that was just labelled Tenchu 3, but yeah, I'm likely going to emulate the fuck out it.

You've played a different game, if you've played it at all...

>Tenchu 1 Mission 8
>Enter Stealth kill where Rikimaru moves like a sperg

Attached: pep_gun.png (469x452, 277K)

No faggot, either you're confused, or you have unfathomably bad fucking taste in video games.

Shadow Assassins is garbage.

>recommending this garbage shovel ware series with shit controls to anyone
>at all
1800c'monnow reddit hipsters up in this thread

*teleports behind your 8 year old brat ass*

*shoots unblockable lightning out of his sword*

youtube.com/watch?v=MCIkkkYtR6M

You need to go back you projecting faggot.

Tenchu 1 is the best one in terms of it's level design and freedom of exploration (draw distance is shit though...)

Tenchu 2 is crap, ignore the people that say it's good, they never bring up the comparison between it and the first game. Tecnhu 2 is linear corridors with only 1 or 2 enemies patrolling A to B. Nothing interesting happens with the Ai because enemies are so far apart form one another, meaning they never get to form groups or interact with one another like they did in the original. Also the levels are too open with nothing going on in them and very little platforming and making use of the grappling hook. There's no sense that you're exploring a guarded environment with multiple paths, also the Ai seems more stupid than it does in the first one (but this could be a result of better level design in the original).

I won't get into detail on how hit or miss the other tenchu games are, but try the first one, it's best and the funnest one by far.

Why do you need to make it even more clear that you haven't even played the game?

sure thing reddit nigger

>he didn't make his own levels in Tenchu 2

Oh user, please tell me more about your wagglan masterpiece with wagglan sword duels, magic teleporting platforming rather than precision movement of any kind, magic teleporting from bush to bush, because again, there's no fucking precision movement, or maybe the linear as fuck environments with literal fucking checkpoints and tiny amounts of enemies that you never have to navigate more than 2-3 at a time, OH PLEASE user, TELL ME MORE ABOUT HOW SHADOW ASSASSINS ISN'T THE MOST GARBAGE FUCKING TENCHU GAME IN EXISTENCE WITH THE EXCEPTION OF MAYBE THAT WEIRD FUCKING PUZZLE XBOX LIVE ARCADE GAME BUT THEN AGAIN SHADOW ASSASSINS WAS PRETENDING TO BE AN ACTUAL TENCHU GAME SO THAT'S SO MUCH FUCKING WORSE.

Just fuck off, you're fucking disgraceful.

A level where a mechanic is getting captured and have to escape is fun. I know it's scripted into a lot of games, BUT if it was optional for the player to get themselves captured on purpose in order to assassinate the target within the fortress could be fun. With the additional challenge of having your equipment taken from you and having to find alternative ways to sneak and eliminate the target.

Also Tenchu 1 feels great because it's simple, but things interact with one another. You don't need to make super complicated Ai, just make sure they respond and react with the other characters (like the dogs waking up sleeping soldiers in the first game, small things you wouldn't think about putting in at first).

You really need to stop trying so hard to cover the fact you haven't played the fucking game

It was worth doing just to play as all the bosses. I remember loving Tajima, the dude with a katana and a gun. Could just spam the grapple where he'd uppercut you into the air and shoot the shit out of you.

Tenchu is comfy.

Attached: Tenchu-cat2.gif (800x466, 329K)

You think I referenced just some of the garbage mechanics in the game because I haven't played the game?

Ok kid, best of luck with that, but there's a reason as to why no one ever speaks fondly of Shadow Assassins, and that's because it's traaaaaash, much like you and your opinion.

Tenchu 1 was my first real 3D game and it set my expectations way too high on what to expect out of video game AI. I swear to God, modern games still haven't caught up to it in multiple aspects.

>not playing as a cat in Debug mode

PSP didnt have motion controls you retard

>poison a human
>they cough, choke and do appropriate bending and trying not to vomit animation
>poison a dog
>it bounces along spazing out trying to walk normally

You just keep making it more obvious that you've never even loaded the game up man

>traaaaaash
You must be same retard calling everyone Reddit ITT

I love that sound they make when poisoned.

Yeah, instead it just had the same shitty QTE's with direction stick input instead, everything else was the exact same garbage.

Same shitty linear level design, same shitty AI, same shitty mechanics.

Shadow Assassins is SHIT, literally designed from the ground up to be hand holdy bullshit for retards too scared of sandbox gameplay.

I'm beyond fucking embarrassed for you dude that you would genuinely defend Ubitard trash like that a decade after it's release.

>Those timestamps.
So much butthurt. Truth hurts I guess.

lool are you talking about that shit game where you can't even grapple hook or jump? lmfao

It was ahead of time in believable enemies. Most games just have a scripted sequence that'll play that will fool into thinking the Ai is smart, but on repeated playthroughs, you'll realise it's the same thing every time which ruins the immersion . Also the fact that each level has 2 different layouts for enemies that will get picked randomly is a lot of fun. More randomness like that should be mandatory in stealth games, otherwise you'll learn by trial and error and won't feel satisfied when you beat it.

>pleeeasee believe me, I've played the game totally bro
>it has motion controls bro I swear
LEL
Why don't you try the game, you'll be pleasantly surprised when comparing it to this daydream boogieman you've built up in your head ;)
Ok champo, you must be hella tilted right now to be pulling the
>m-mum, their all samefags! I"M RIGHT WAAAAAA ALL ARGUMENTS INVALIDATED
card
And then samefag yourself anyway haha

Fuck off dude, if you can't handle legit criticism of a rubbish game with people explicitly outing it's rubbish mechanics there's no point even talking to you.

Yeah very legit coming from someone who hasn't played the game lmfaoo

Actually I'm going to take a leaf out of your book and samefag for a second
>explicitly outing it's rubbish mechanics
Like the motion controls right ;

And yet here you are, still having failed to refute any of the criticisms i've raised about the game and instead just screeching that I haven't played it, when I clearly have.

You can take your bamboo water cannon and stick it up your ass faggot.

Platform(s) Wii, PlayStation Portable
Are you two having a fight over two possibly different playing games? Wii must have had motion controls at least.

Haha nice try flipping it around, but no one is going to fall for your stupid as strawman about made up mechanics the console didn't even support ;

Are you talking about the Wii game? Because PSP does not have wagglan controls. So you're either literally 12 and dont know about video games before the ps4 or you're just a retard casual that doesn't know dick about anything

We are talking about the PSP game, which is ubi-ubershit btw

No, it's the exact same game, only the wagglan was replaced with stick inputs for the mini games in the PSP version.

PSP version obviously had downgraded visuals as well.

Both games are shit, doubly so by comparison with the rest of the Tenchu series.

I legit can't believe someone thinks they're anything other than hot garbage. The absolute fucking state of this place that literal Wii tier shovelware is held in high regard is revolting.

the PSP game is better than the Wii one

No it's not.

I know what you want, you want the STONE. It's SAFE inside my belly. youuuu're nooot going to. get. it. TEEHEEHEEHEEHEEHEEHEE

Like the PS1 shovelware Tenchu right
Please just go try the game, you will have a better life for having enjoyed it

i love tenchu 2 but i havent played it in a century so be advised, it might have aged badly

me too. it fucks me up seeing so many people go "wow this is so much like tenchu xD". it has fuck all in common other than the setting. stealth is not encouraged and even the grappling hook works differently

Play it and be surprised? ;3

most of them haven't even played tenchu, be honest

>me too. it fucks me up seeing so many people go "wow this is so much like tenchu xD". it has fuck all in common other than the setting. stealth is not encouraged and even the grappling hook works differently
yeah us Tenchu gaymers amirite, fuck these sekiwhatevero faggots and FUCK PSP
I don't need to play it to know it's UBISHIT

I've played both of the games faggot, I own both of the games, both of the games are trash. Literally, I mean literally the worst Tenchu games there are, including the half assed WoH Jap only PSP spin off games.

It's linear, hand holdy casual crap with magical teleporting movement for half of the gameplay because players controlling a character is apparently too fucking hard. It's a fucking affront to the Tenchu franchise.

Sort yourself out, get some fucking taste, or better still, start refuting even a SINGLE point i've brought up.

looks like a cheap version of ninja gaiden.

How much sand is in your vagina right now that you're dragging other people into your petty squabble over literal Ubisoft shovelware?

Dude stop
You've proven you've never played them, even if you own them (doubtful considering your bullshit opinion of them).

Only a literal third world shitter poorfag would defend PSP garbage ports of Wii games. Just sayin'. There's a reason no one is taking you seriously.

Meant to include the above faggot and not in my post after

for sure. they think they get 'gamer cred' or whatever for namedropping an old niche game i guess
nobody who put some actual time into tenchu would think sekiro is anything like it

How about you start refuting even one of my criticisms champ.

Even a brainlet like you should be capable of forming a single, coherent argument.

damn this is redpilled. i have a 360 i dont know why i skipped this game. just ordered a copy and am ready to unleash a bloodbath of my own

Again trying to flip it around, but you've received nothing but ridicule in this thread after making it so clear you've never played the game in question
Cry more kiddo
Wow am I having dejavu? You've literally just repeated the sentiment of one of your previous posts. Go read the response to that one, then you'll know why you should play the game before making up bullshit criticisms

Refute my points or fuck off and stop shitting up the thread.

Not same genre as Sekiro,
But Shadow Tactics is a good one, if you're into strategy

Play the game then come back with points you haven't made up
Also take your own advice and stop shitposting

Yeah, that's what I thought, you're full of shit. You're a faggot and everything wrong with nu-Yea Forums, too much of a coward to even have a discussion.

The fucking state of you.

Nobody is fooled by the pathetic attempt to shovel out of the pit you dug for yourself. You should lurk moar before trying to shitpost around here kiddo ;)

Shinobi for PS2

>nu-Yea Forums
Coming from the guy who traaaaaaaash posted

>;)
Faggot.
As a parting gift have a bit of advice, when someone challenges your opinion, grow a fucking pair, don't go full tranny and remove them thinking people will magically accept you, because guess what, they won't and the end result is you just being even more of a joke having lost something you can never get back.

That's right run off back to your hugbox
I really hope you take my advice and lurk moar (maybe google that term btw)

>make something up about a game you haven't played
>g-guys why aren't people in the thread taking me seriously
>why am I getting shat on
>f-fuck you guys, I'm going
uhhuh sweetie

SEXY AYAME ARMOR

>being this mad because someone called you out
Yikes.

Still going? Thought you were running off LMAO

Legit my first fap.

He did BTFO you though, so uhhh maybe a yikes from me dawg
>inb4 s-ssamefag!! waaa

>He doesn't use Yea Forums X
Yikes.

>Timestamps
Absolute samefag pottery.

>he uses Yea Forums X
As expected from a leddit shitposer

How predictable, I'm going to look at this thread fondly in the archive
Maybe fap to another retard brought to using the most pathetic of arguments and leddit memes

Tenchu games were great. They should do a collection package and maybe include 1-4.

It's just a slippery version of Tenchu controls with way too much player momentum, rapidly changing direction on the spot has an ice skating like effect etc
user was right, Shadow Assassins was horrid and I didn't see you once refute any of his points and just strawman endlessly, quit being a salty faggot.

>user was right
Dude no one is fooled by you. Go read all the previous responses to your shittery and cool off.

Refute his points, i'll wait.

Whoops never mind my comment lel. I thought you meant Shinobi not Shinobido. I just read that wrong.

Refute your points? Sorry you've asked repeatedly in this thread and ignored every response.
Go play the game, come back with valid points and I will address them.

Ah all good, nah Shinobi was tight as fuck.
Still waiting user, tick tock.

user made several valid points, the exact same criticisms anyone would make of Shadow Assassins, and you didn't once refute them and instead strawmanned, exactly like you're doing now. Shocking.

>Still waiting user, tick tock.
Me too, but I'm very patient. I'm not even mad that I have to respond, because you BTFO yourself with the way your posts get flimsier and flimsier.
When you've played the game, feel free to raise some valid points for me to address. I'm around for every Tenchu thread
Ah it's my turn
>HUR DURR TIMESTAMPS LE PROVE SAMEfag
But in this case your posting style proves it ;

>Ninja Games

Ninja Gaiden Black is elder god tier. Even if he doesn't stealth like a true ninja the game is still one of the greatest and perhaps even the greatest action game ever made. NG2 has its faults but is also amazing.

There are actually plenty of great ninja games but the NG ones take it for me. Even classic NES 1 and 2 were good. 3 is alright but not as good as the previous imo. Same somewhat applies to NG3 RE but that game however is more bad than even decent.

Yes it really was. Seriously amazing gem of a PS2 game there. Never played Nightshade though.

Still waiting user. Tick tock. Where are the arguments you promised? I'll i'm seeing are strawman.

Ahaha I've broken you, let me just post again the response you're so desperately trying to ignore
Me too, but I'm very patient. I'm not even mad that I have to respond, because you BTFO yourself with the way your posts get flimsier and flimsier.
When you've played the game, feel free to raise some valid points for me to address. I'm around

Tick tock cuck.

Oopsie, and of course I'm again quoting your childish tick tock business ;

1 and 2 are really great, wrath of heaven I think is ok then they kinda declined in quality with different studios taking over various games
you want to check out shinobido which is made by acquire
make sure you get the Shinobi Gaisen version

Attached: tenchu gaisen.jpg (251x256, 15K)

anyone know what these two faggots are even talking about? take the flirting to snapchat or whatever you weird obsessed queers.

I'm still waiting friend, and will be for every thread well into the future champ

You didn't refute ONE of these posts. Not ONE.

When you've played the game, feel free to raise some valid points for me to address. I'm around every thread

You're up user, get to it.

>motion controls on the PSP
Uhmmmmmm sweetie, why we he refute lies??

He already said multiple times that the wagglan QTE's were replaced with stick QTE's on PSP.
But apparently you can't even read, let alone argue.

Yep just waiting for you to play the game and come back with some valid points. Any time you have the chance

Valid points were listed for you, now refute them, you can do that, can't you?

He only said that after someone else helped him out, he hasn't played the PSP game ;

If you play the game you'll find they're not valid. As before I'm not spoonfeeding a troll like yourself, but feel free to go play the game and come back with some actual valid points.

I love how you're still trying to pretend that the PSP and Wii game are different and not equally as shit.
It's pathetic how salty you are, even more pathetic that you refuse to even defend your opinion with anything other than strawmen.
Do everyone a favour and don't post in Tenchu threads, no one wants you around and you legit ruined this thread.

Tenchu threads don't need some jumpy little Redditor commenting on games they've never played. But here we are ;

Here you are, you mean.

Nice try little one

No really user, you fucking ruined what was otherwise a comfy as fuck Tenchu thread with your stawman autism all because you couldn't handle someone challenging your opinion. That's Reddit as fuck.

If this is going to keep happening then can you guys at least try and actually do it. These claims happened:
wagglan sword duels
magic teleporting platforming rather than precision movement of any kind
magic teleporting from bush to bush
the linear as fuck environments with literal fucking checkpoints
tiny amounts of enemies that you never have to navigate more than 2-3 at a time

If we assume he means the wii version we can get over the waggling. 2 and 3 should be doable with any random youtube video and maps from gamefaqs would cover 4 and 5 if they exist. Or you can copy paste each other into oblivion.

Every criticism that user had is legit, watch any video, all if it is apparent within minutes.
youtube.com/watch?v=J3OOyQr-iHk

You made some bullshit points. You got called out by multiple people. I say playing the game would best help correct your mistaken mindset about it.
And here we are, after hours of your sperging ruining the thread. And you try to flip it back onto me, who is here for every Tenchu thread? Nice

Hmm the poster count didn't go up, I wonder who could be behind this? Go play the game and never visit these Tenchu threads again

in his defence, not really as bad as you're making out
it's a pretty fun game tbqh, chill man and lets be comfy you've ruined the thread with this shit ;

Just waiting for you to refute points, but no point now I guess, everyone knows your full of shit.

The tenchu games are significantly better than sekiro at least.
Z is my favorite, some people shit on it for some reason, probably because it can get quite repetitive, but it has the best ninja mechanics of any game
You can also play Shinobido, its fucking amazing, you can do insane shit like jsut straight up assassinate the feudal lords when they're on the same map as you, completely taking out one of the three factions

From my understanding, one of them made argument about why Shadow Assassins is a bad game and the other doesn't want to address any of it and they're going back and forth like that.

>You can also play Shinobido, its fucking amazing, you can do insane shit like jsut straight up assassinate the feudal lords when they're on the same map as you, completely taking out one of the three factions
There's a lot of fucking amazing things going on in Shiobido mechanically, I really like the home base mechanic as well. I just wish the whole thing was a bit more polished.

fpbp said Shadow Assassins was a shit game, user got his panties in a twist, fpbp explained why it was shit, user continued to get his panties in a twist until his balls fell off.

The two best Tenchu games are 2 and WoH.

2 has a genuinely excellent story that does everything MGS1 tries to do, but better.

WoH has the best gameplay in the series by far and a large amount of replay value. The story is a trainwreck however.

The first 3 games in the series are must plays, and I really wish they'd release a HD remaster of them.

That shift is what I liked about WoH. You actually have to use the different skills the game gives you in order to get through it (clinging to ceilings when there's no cover, kicking off walls when cornered by enemies etc.) and the number of movement options the game gives you is insane. The combat also has a surprising amount of depth once you get past the initial jankiness of the controls.

Jesus christ user. Could it possibly be one of the anons already engaging in this discussion? Are you really that retarded? You know it's not just two people flinging shit, right? Right?

Everything you like about WoH is done better in Z, just without the linear levels or any supernatural bullshit, which i've always been annoyed by in tenchu.

>lets say they are demons or magic armored or whatever so you have to successfully stealth them 3 times
Please, sekiro is bad enough, we don't need another game like that shit.

>Are you really that retarded?
He thinks Shadow Assassins was a good game, it's a very real possibility.

>none of them are good
eat shit and die zoomer.

Attached: 1355450441076.jpg (406x364, 118K)

Yep just waiting for you to play the game and come back with some valid points. Any time you have the chance
Jesus christ is it your first day on Yea Forums? Or maybe you are the same guy still? :)

Look guys can we please just ignore these two retards. Shadow Assassins is mediocre, neither bad or good.

I was pulling an attempt out of my ass to combine stealth instant kill gameplay with the idea of a boss fight. Could do the deus ex dlc thing I guess. Set it up so you have to ghost a tough section (no kills or being spotted) or else the boss goes on alert and becomes immune to stealth. Otherwise make the choice to stealth or combat a boss meaningful in some other way. Plot changes or different rewards maybe.

I think supernatural boss style encounters are something def better left to action orientated games than stealth focused games, a little spooky is fine to set the mood and tone, but you really don't want something that transforms the core gameplay into something it's really not and whilst I love Tenchu 1, including it's supernatural elements, it's combat focused bosses kinda killed it for me, I think Tenchu Z did that stuff best when instead of a scripted boss fight you could, with proper planning and patience, stealth kill a boss like any other enemy, and if you fucked that up, then it became an absolute clusterfuck 1v1 duel.

>Or maybe you are the same guy still? :)
I can't be the same guy, the poster count did go up. This is how your logic works :^)

>Still nothing despite having been called out a dozen times by multiple people.
The salt is fucking real. The retardation is real. Amazing.

I like that the inclusion of supernatural elements gave us more some varied enemy types in WoH (ghosts you can't kill conventionally and so on) but yeah, I really wish they and continued what 2 did and made it a historical drama. The impression I get in WoH is that they spent so much time perfecting the gameplay that they either forgot or didn't care to write a good story. At least the b side dialogue implies that they knew how awful the story was though.

Got you. Hoisted on your own petard so to speak.
A little too smart for your own good ;)
Now go play the game, and come back with some valid points of discussion. I am literally still waiting.

The way I saw the bosses in 1-WoH was that it gave you a chance to use all the offensive tools you unlock and it was there to stonewall people who just ran through the levels without doing the stealth.

I think fight a boss is it's own reward after sneaking your way through an entire level. WoH easily had the best boss fights, since all the extra combat options like parries and different combo strings makes them play like Ninja Gaiden-lite.

>Still crying like a bitch 192+ posts later because someone said Shadow Assassins was shit with not ONE counter argument.
The absolute state of you.

still waiting to lose your virginity lol

It's actually fine for a psp game, but I can't defend playing it on Wii.
youtu.be/CJzuClhZ6zE?t=78

>stealth is not encouraged

Ofcourse it is, if you dont want to be overwhelmed by enemies you need to take out as many as possible.

Not saying the stealth is good but the game doesn't punish you for sneaking around and stabbing cunts.

>and it was there to stonewall people who just ran through the levels without doing the stealth.
That's the thing though, I always felt like it encouraged people to do just that and rather than risk taking damage/wasting items on the level and instead just head for the boss and chug health potions whilst tossing grenades.

Shut the fuck up and fuck off already, jesus christ. You've contributed nothing to the thread or discussion. Nothing.

I thought they made pretty clear that Ayame is a bitch
I mean, just the outfit says it all

Max salt after getting BTFO repeatedly
I've asked you repeatedly to stop shitting up this thread, I'm here for every Tenchu thread so don't think you'll ever get away with it.
Ok, just for you I'm not going to respond to the retard.

But it's really not fine for a PSP game, let alone a Tenchu game on PSP when you can literally play Tenchu 1, Tenchu 2, Tench: San Portable or Time of the Assassins on PSP, all of which are proper Tenchu games and not the casual, streamlined garbage that is Shadow Assassins.

Shadow Assassins is literally babies first Tenchu.

Fucking hell, this is some town with no name tier va

Tenchu 2 is possibly the best stealth game after Thief series.

Fuck off mate, no one cares, and I guarantee you're not around for every Tenchu thread because Tenchu threads are awesome and you're a faggot.

Never forget lord mayo.

I love this ridiculous little gem.

Attached: ininja.jpg (640x905, 114K)

>tfw cheesing the level with the Onikage rooftop fight by grappling onto the far corners of the castle and climbing to the top bypassing the whole level.
Felt good man.
Are you seriously defending Shadow Assassins? That shit was an abortion of a game.

You want to get Grand Master ranks in order to unlock better items, so stealth is definitely encouraged. Bringing lots of health potions and grenades also takes up inventory slots that are more wisely used for items that are actually useful for stealth like disguises and blow darts. The debate when picking items is basically whether you want to either trivialise the stealth or trivialise the boss and the better you get at playing the game without items, the more you can do both.

When playing WoH at a high skill level, you'll quickly realise that health potions and ninja rebirths are a waste of an item slot, since you have more than enough options to avoid taking damage entirely.

[E EHO WAYYO INTESIFIES]

I always wondered if you could access the infinite arena shown on the main menu

You can, but its not infinite, you gotta collect all the medal things

I was referring more to Tenchu 1 where all you needed to trivialize stealth was a single poisoned rice ball and doing anything other than spamming grenades for bosses was just asking for trouble.

WoH def gave you more abilities to deal with bosses, but the combat still felt pretty janky and some of the stunlock bullshit was hilarious.

They can be clunky, especially Tenchu 1 and 2 on the PS1, but god, are they comfy and entertaining.

I really miss these types of games in our modern age.
Absolutely make sure to play the PS1 games first.

Attached: 1208974134151.gif (480x288, 28K)

Why nobody talk about Tenchu’s multiplayers mode ? It was awesome with a friend (but totally unbalanced)

The idea of a stealth game in medieval japan sounds exciting just because it seems like you could have simpler settings. Like a few guys in the woods, no tech like radios or flashlights or firearms. Nothing that grows in scale beyond the first level of Thief: the Dark Project.

I feel what stealth games got wrong was they always demanded these crazy action set pieces and shooting mechanics that easily swallow up being a sneaky snake, so they slap stuff on the HUD to erase ambiguity and tension about how hidden you are. Again, Thief did it best imo

>tfw you played Tenchu 1 and Thief 1 within a few weeks of each other
>tfw they were some of your first games
>tfw you thought stealth games could only get better
At least we got Splinter Cell I guess, but jesus fuck what has the industry been doing for 20 years?

I mean I know Sekiro isn't a straight up stealth game, but it's stealth aspects are legitimately worse than Tenchu, that really shouldn't be a thing. Not to mention i'm concerned that because FROM has now blow a watery, dribbly, half assed "stealth" load with Sekiro they won't do a proper Tenchu game any time soon.

Fuck.

Activision published the first tenchu, now they also published sekiro, its like pottery desu

Oh shit I remember seeing your webms in AGDG threads.
The only thing I would ask for is you make a retard friendly level editor, I know it's UE4 and full open source, but if you could make tools for us brainlets that just lets us drag/drop enemies and set patrols in existing levels that'd be nice and Steam workshop support to share stuff. Still can't believe you're just going to release it for free though, people would buy that shit, myself included.

Legitimately the greatest prequel in all of video games next to only MGS3 and arguably with better stealth

Attached: 6a713605-f0ef-42ac-9c52-f20da8e0edca.jpg (3276x2200, 3.18M)

Time of Assassins is so different from Wrath of Heaven.Probably the shittest of the bunch but editor was nice addition. There is also untranslated xbox version of WoH on psp(japanese)

Tried shinobido on emulator 2 years ago and controls were shit.Tenchu controls are on point

>people hate wrath of heaven

shit was so fucking cash

>No remake of Tenchu 1 & 2 with Tenchu Z's engine.
REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE

All of my money.
I wonder if given the fact that FROM owns the Tenchu rights and published Z they'd ever do a PC release. I know it doesn't have the meme magic of Metal Wolf Chaos, but surely it'd have a market on PC.

can anyone recommend a SINGLE stealth game from this gen?

I can't think of any off the top of my head that were good

Dishonored 1 and 2.

I've never heard anyone hating woh

Hitman 2016/Hitman 2, but not pure stealth obviously.
MGSV/GZ, especially modded, but they skirt this gen/last gen.
Dishonored 2, good, but again not pure stealth.

Everything else is some horrid stealth/hybrid game. Ubisoft have done a fine fucking job of ruining the genre honestly by injecting it half assedly into everything they do.

reminder that tenchu z is almost playable on xenia from what i see online

contrary to popular belief, splinter cell blacklist is pretty good

Time of Assassins is basically WoH remade in the style of T1&2 instead of being total jank shit.

hardest beat em up I've played

Attached: ninjashadowofdarkness-1000x425w.jpg (1000x425, 117K)

Pic related will always be my top pick.

Attached: ninja-gaiden-black-xbox-front-cover.jpg (800x1136, 220K)

>MGSV/GZ, especially modded

I dumped 350 hours combined into GZ/TPP but never touched mods, what should I install?

If it still works, Infinite Heaven.

How is NG Sigma 1 and 2 on RPCS3? Its so weird that after Nioh they never ported NG 1 and 2 to PC.

Plot twist: this poster didn't play it and is just tucking with the poster trashing the game

>Ninja Games

Play Ninja Gaiden.

Black/Sigma, 2/Sigma 2 and Razor's edge. Play the one available for the system you own for the first two and make sure you play the RE version for the third. Stay far away from any other entries.

Tenchu is one of my favorite series of all time, they are excellent games but they have not aged as well as i would like them too, so you need to have a taste for old games to appreciate them. The soundtrack aged very well though and is amazing, especially the first game. 2 is my favorite in the series.

Attached: Miji S2.webm (900x506, 2.95M)

What's actually weird is why they still keep porting games to a platform where piracy is rampant.

Nioh sold better on PC than any other platform, Sekiro, despite being piratable a full day before release has still sold fucking amazingly on PC.

Eat shit faggot, piracy only effects shit games and greedy publishers.

Alien: isolation

It's maybe closer to survival horror in some ways though ? The game perfectly captures the first film feeling IMHO. Be warned it's not assassination-style stealth, you have to hide from basically everyone.

>Sigma
lmao

kill yourself

>only affects

Nice narrative you mong.

That’s why I love WoH. The more gauntlet like level design means you can’t skip entire levels with movement mechanics like you can in 1,2 and Shinobido and can only skip sections at most. This means that you have to use either a variety of different items or your unlockable abilities to get by undetected.

The more focused design also leads to more varied levels. Some are open like Echigoya and the Robin Village, while others are mazes like Gohda Castle.

I honestly think WoH is one of the best stealth-action hybrids ever made, it does everything Dishonored tried to do mechanically, but better. I’m just sad that the game is more or less forgotten today, and doesn’t even have a remaster.

I’m suprised that Tenchu 2’s plot receives no recognition but yet MGS1’s plot does. Tenchu 2’s story is basically MGS1’s story except told more skilfully.

Keep crying corporate buttlicker.
gizmodo.com.au/2017/09/the-eu-suppressed-a-300-page-study-that-found-piracy-doesnt-harm-sales/

>I’m suprised that Tenchu 2’s plot receives no recognition but yet MGS1’s plot does. Tenchu 2’s story is basically MGS1’s story except told more skilfully.

I love Tenchu 2 but you need to pump the fucking brakes user

Attached: what are you doing.jpg (1920x1080, 208K)

having to complete all three characters scenarios to get the full story and answer every question was amazing to me back then and of course my nigga Riki going from immature aspirant to stone cold ninja hero slaying that evil bitch I thought was amazing

Attached: rikimaruriq0.jpg (363x600, 73K)

Tenchu Z proved that you don't need to railroad people through linear, segmented levels to encourage a variety of playstyles in different environments you can easily have both and the game is better for it.

Am i the only one that hates the epic move name flash after every single kill they introduced in WOH? I really fucking hate it.

1 is best and very good
3 was also fairly good
2 has some neat levels and fights here and there but overall pretty meh
anything afterwards is inevitably garbage

>Z
>Garbage
lolno.

It’s only there to notify you that you filled the kill meter and it goes away once you completely fill it. It was satisfying af as well when accompanied with the half-second pause you get when landing a kill.

Tenchu 2 is still my favourite of all time.

The gameplay is top notch, level and enemy variety is great, there's boss fights, MULTIPLE story modes with different characters, a great story, a goat soundtrack and a level editor.

The boss AI didn't age very well lol

What are the odds of Ghosts of Tsushima being a good Tenchu successor?

The whole idea of the game sounds excellent and Sucker Punch are a decent dev, but the gameplay looks a bit casualised.

You're joking, right?
It's just going to be more open world drivel ala Sucker Punches last few games, AssCreed, Bamham etc

It's got literally nothing in common with Tenchu.

>What are the odds of Ghosts of Tsushima being a good Tenchu successor?

Absolute zero

Attached: Original gameplay do not steal.webm (1280x720, 2.93M)

it's kinda funny but I hate playing survival horror games, specifically stealth ones where you have nothing to fight with, but I love stealth action games.

I like being the silent hunter, not the hunted, I guess.

I don't mean to sound like a boomer, but that footage looks more like a movie than a video game. where's the gameplay?

When I saw the reveal this past E3 I thought it was a new Tenchu game. I honestly hoped it would have been too

The most kino ninja side-scroller.

Attached: nspirit.png (222x300, 38K)

Fuck that pit drop at the end.

How come the last levels of ninja games are always strange alien or high tech worlds?

I have no idea. I guess people think a ninja game can't sustain itself without futuristic stuff or supernatural elements. Tenchu 2 is the only game I can think of that's grounded from beginning to end.

Sucked so hard at this last time I played it. Going to pick it up again with no way to play Sekiro currently.

That game is pure nip folklore though.

they are FAR superior than memero shadows meme twice

Play the SEGA Shinobi games and perpare to get tilted.

>mfw picking up Shinobi on 3DS when I first got mine thinking it'll be a neat little sidescroller

Attached: 1536706439775.jpg (720x720, 501K)

If you want something stealth related, play Mark of the Ninja and Shadow Tactics. If you want something more action oriented, play the Shinobi series (3 and Shadow Dancer on Genesis are my personal favorites).

If you guys like the the music in Tenchu then I recommend listening to the Rurouni Kenshin and way of the samurai ost. It's by the same guy

This was one of the most paunful threads to read. Fuck you all and play ninja gaiden on nes like real ninjas.

>best feudal Japan soundtrack was composed for a western game

youtube.com/watch?v=EVrNq-2okG0

>tfw I heard Tatsumaru's boss theme in WoH for the first time

His fights had no business being as hype as they were:
youtube.com/watch?v=JEs3LmM-TCI

I still don't understand why they couldn't have just made Sekiro a Tenchu game. It could have revived stealth as a genre in Japan.

real ninjas are stealthy retard

>real ninjas

I like it precisely because it's made by the Rurouni Kenshin guy. Is there even a single sitar in Sekiro's ost? So disappointing.

Ninjas likely did exist. They just tended to be spies and couriers rather than the stealthy assassins media portrays them as.

>likely

What do you mean likely? They literally did exist, stop falling for youtube revisionist history faggotry.

>I still don't understand why they couldn't have just made Sekiro a Tenchu game

they have never been successful before souls games so now they are stuck making pseudo souls clones with minor differences like sekiro and bloodborne, although I prefer sekiro over a botched tenchu that is just another souls reskin

schoolgirlmilkycrisis.com/2014/11/12/clap-your-hands-if-you-believe-in-ninja/

shinobi existed but not like media protrays them, they were similar to undercover agents of western spy movies, lots of shinobi were pretty women that slept with powerful men for info

wait a minute while i totally click that

Red Ninja - End of Honor was the raunchy tenchu type stealth game

can prbly find an emulator to play it now

Attached: red_ninja_end_of_honor_profilelarge.jpg (342x299, 11K)

Retard, shinobi were largely made up of samurai

double retard
shinobi and samurai are two wildly different things, it's like comparing a rogue and a knight

samurai were hired mercenaries that became too powerful for their own good and built the shogunate, they were insanely rich and assholes

>Tenchu Z if you have an Xbox 360
When are they gonna re-release it on PC or something. Or when will 360 emulation work ?

Attached: REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE.gif (216x150, 1.98M)

You're a fucking idiot underage, stop getting your history from video games and anime.

Samurai was literally a title not a fucking class medieval nips speced into. Most ninjas were Samurai who had the training and the job of being a ninja. Ninjas did many things including spying, sabotage, reconnaissance, assassination and even police work later in the period. They were literally just nip commandos/spies. The ideas that they were all farmers or some sect is all made up. Women were used as spies as well but saying "lots of them" is retarded

Attached: 1552886830496.png (1080x1920, 3.45M)

books.google.co.uk/books?id=MBaeBAAAQBAJ

Considering the ubiquity of the ninja in twenty-first-century popular culture, it is remarkable how fast they appear to have sprung out of nowhere in the 1950s and 1960s.

At first, they were imagined in black – the default colour of stagehands and puppeteers, whom traditional theatre-goers were supposed to blank from their sight. Ninja were proletarian heroes, peasants and underlings in the interstices of times past, literally invisible from a military history that had been dominated by the samurai. However, despite the claims of ninja apologists, it is difficult to find any concrete discussion of them long before the novels of Yamada Futaro (1922–2001) and the comics of Shirato Sanpei (b.1932). Any attempts to make a scholarly study of ninja lead down a series of false trails, with modern sources that end up only citing each other, and credulous populist works that claim any reference in an old account to shinobi (stealth, spies, assassins) was in fact a reference to one of several secret ninja societies that stayed in the shadows.

tenchu 1 last level is just caves with some lava, right?

jesus fuck

wait a minute while i totally read that

The boss room has a magic portal and a floating dude with a lightning sword.

but you dont go through the portal
the level itself is just slightly fantastic

Do you have a github or something were we can follow the project ?

>You don't need to make super complicated Ai, just make sure they respond and react with the other characters

1 and 2 are awesome

Yo what's that dash move he did. I'm doing a run of Shinobi right now.

You're playing Shinobi and haven't found the dash button yet?

Generic jap instruments can be very good. Like any instrument, it all depend on what you do with it. Sekiro's soundtrack is just lame.

This any good? I have my doubts.

Attached: firefox_2019-03-24_18-57-24.png (456x380, 229K)

Not really, its got all kinds of problems but if you already played every tenchu and shinobido you should play them all again. Then maybe try red ninja.

I kinda feel like Kishimoto based Kakashi and Itachi on Rikimaru and Tatsumaru respectively. Don't if he based Ayame on anyone but both her Tenchu 2 appearance and Tsunade share the same VA.

>Red Ninja
Is that game any good ?

Lol didn't see the post above.
What kind of problems ? Gameplay related ?

What was even the point of that plot twist? I swear that the only reason it exists is to give an excuse to replenish your health between Onikage's first and second phases.

>Nioh sold better on PC than any other platform

That platform being PS4...and from what we know it never sold more than a half a million on PC but still sold 2.5 million in total. So I doubt it sold the best on PC.

Not really, but she a cute

I could suck dicks to have that.

Same for me but it's more like not having any option to defend yourself. Even in games like Aragami where if you get spotted it's the one-shot you still have options to defend yourself.
