Same basic reason why picking a generic sim is a problem.
Because there's too many shepards. Good boy, Bad boy, guns first, biotics first, maleshep, femshep.
Still, Shepard is a more than reasonable choice. Hell, Paragon millitary grunt Male Shepard ,and Renegade cybernetic Female Shepard wouldn't be such a bad idea.
