P2 was in fact not based and the worst Persona has ever been. It nearly killed the series until P3 came along to save things. Then P4 polished P3 up and now we have more SMT games than you can shake a stick at.

P2 is very reddit because it has a lot of surface level depth, it's grim and has fr*cking Hitler in it and has a serial killer who "kills way more people than Adachi!" and everyone dies at the end of part 1. Part 2 focuses on adults who smoke and drink and cuss and it's hella dark and epic. Very attractive for someone looking to posture and preen about how patrician their tastes are in comparison to the kiddie games like 4.
