The official answer is probably that they just copied stuff, just like humans copy a lot of slang words, cultural shit and hairstyles that are typical for other cultures once they have intermingled to some degree. You notice that a lot in certain parts of Europe.
The inofficial explanation is, though, that the developers are just lazy and didn't thought or didn't care about such questions.

Because Mass Effect is depicting a galactic society where humans have exited with other species for decades and know how to communicate with them. The game is not actively attempting to create an unrecognizable future existence but a relatable one. When a turian uses human air quotes, that perfectly recognizable gesture is meant to depict a future equivalent that is equally recognizable to Shepard in the context of his time of existence and it's translated to a contemporary expression for the player's convenience.

You know one thing I fucking hate about these games is how undeveloped the other species were. I mean Turians had far away colonies for thousands of years before humans even managed to fly to fucking Mars and Asari are generally one of the early advanced species and have all their ESP bullshitery. Both should have kicked human's asses regarding technology and basically everything else and yet, they're are all on the same level as humans. Hell even their rooms looks exactly like human rooms and the games shill humans hard so despite everything it's always humans who are the smartasses while everyone else is wrong.
Also, the alien NPCs are all too samey. There are no size differences or anything. We never saw Turian children for example or anything like that. Or Turians that were part of the same race as Saren and his brother (unless this is some kind of down syndrome), or leaner/fatter Asari or anything because they're lazy as shit and just copy pasted one same model for every species and only changed the colors and facial markings and be done with it. It pissed me off when we got the official size chart and Garrus is like 7ft tall or something but as small as femShep in the game.

Well I don't mean different in a very alien way. But considering how different Japanese apartments look like compared with European ones for example there should be a lot of cultural stuff in there that make alien room distinguishable from typical human ones.
Somedays I wish they would just remake these games and add everything I as well as most other fans always missed as well as improving the story in general and add more outcomes and options. I wouldn't wonder at all if there were more males than females into Garrus. Most women have a terrible taste and Garrus is too good for them. I bet my ass that most female players are into Thane or Kaidan.

Because the scale they demand is often too big an undertaking. They need to have a unique enough setting to set it apart from other titles while retaining the basics, but they also need to be an engaging well written world that players like, coupled with a decent story that allows for player choices and consequences within it.

I knew from the get go what was I getting so i didn't really get hurt. I think for me what was most disappointing is just how much of the setting and its potential was thrown away in favour of cheap, easy nonsense. Every companion was dull, lore was retconned and ignored, the new races were shit and most of the time you had no free choices. You were ALWAYS the goodie too shoes and never faced any hard decisions.

I think she's a really well written deliberately annoying character and the player interactions with her are a neat way to have speech skill checks, since you need to have leveled up your ability to shit talk or smooth talk her.

I also disliked how the villain of 2 was just a shittier version of the one in 1, it's why I wished the reaper shit was limited to the first game. Isn't it part of the lore that humans are expanding way too fast for a new race? Hell even in the first game a lot of people were pissed at you for being an spectre when their speciest doesn't even have a say in the council and have been around way longer than humans.

There is a ton of ME porn out there, fans are capable of creating good looking naked Turian models and whatever you want but the team can't even do a scene with Quarians who are basically colored humans save for the legs and fingers.
I always wondered if they're literally too lazy for that or if it is some western sharia law that prohibits alien sex in official media. I usually would assume the latter but considering the ME3 endings, the Tali "face" and the fact that they weren't able to add high differences for the character models I guess they were just as lazy and incabable to do sex scenes as writing a proper scenario.

It is reiterated multiple times in ME1 and 2 especially that humans are still newcomers in the eyes of the galactic community and that many members of the other species are weary of them because of how aggressively expansionist humanity is.

That's what was always the most appalling part about it. You can already tell by figure they're significantly humanoid, save for the digit count and digitigrade legs. Through the helmet visors you can see enough to know their faces are mostly human like. LORE states they're one of the most human-like of the alien races.
It's not like they couldn't have done some amount of asset recycling.

ME3 is weird in that I think it's got the best gameplay/gunplay in the series, but the game suffers from Obsidian Syndrome in the sense that they forgot to write the last 20% of the story. I don't hate it, but I was really disappointed when I first played it.

So here's my Shepard so far. Zhu Shepard. He was an Engineer in ME1, which was a awful class, and had him become a Soldier in ME2 when I figured his in between ME1 and getting killed was him going "Yeah Pistols only and Hacking sucks, I want an AR".

I mean I do enjoy the game having loot to find and use, and something to spend money on, but FFS, mid-late game you get FLOODED with so many useless guns, armor, and all the fucking upgrades, not to mention the Omni-Gel.

Its like playing the same shitty game but everything feels smoother and there a lot more to do, like assign crew roles on ship, just nice aesthetic shit
