I haven't played since before BBI came out. Never had the urge to replay but maybe its time.

Just find a quest guide and check that you done the most imporant quests, take care when entertaining spoiled little girls and don't care about stats, they don't really matter.
The first time I played I used a lot of yellow classes, but they didn't click, but I'd spent a lot of the game playing as one, because I cared about stats, and it ruined it for me. It wasnt until I bought it on PC that I went with primarely Red classes, and I loved it. I did go a few levels as Sorc because perfect guarding Mystic Knight is the most fun I can have in the game.

I'm rolling Guts sword class this time around I just seem to not be able to pump out any damage, especially when ash black armored bandits with horns roll around.

Yeah, on my current playthrough I'm playing as MA my pawn a strider for phys damage and 2 pawn sorceress and am steamrolling through BBI.

Yeah I figured out that really quick, heal pawns are great early on but in bb you take way more damage than they heal, and you have a shit ton of heal items

Thinking of replaying it, it was a lot of fun the first time. But the stats always bothered me, lets say I want to use Arcane Archer in the later game, do I really need to start pumping those Sorc levels early on? Doing things like Warrior and Fighter give a lot less MagDmg than Sorc.

Also, what are some good Augments to get early on?

Stats matter SIGNIFICANTLY less than people imply
For purposes of a normal playthrough, all you should really think is "Do I want physical or magical" and feel free to bounce around between either group respectively

As it happens, the most valuable stat is actually from Ranger: Stamina
Infinite stamina items are tedious to deal with, and no weapons can give you more of it, unike offensive stats

There are augments that reduce stamina usage on phys or magick skills.
And I think that if you need that much stamina, it's only for grabbing on big enemies.

Minmaxing is not necessary. The top tier weapons from BBI will cover any stat deficiency.

If I recall MA and MK use your highest stat, and dip into either of them.

Basically a balanced stat between both is pointless just go for the highest stat.

No actually, its based on your character's size. Smaller characters regen stamina faster, which is why most people make loli mage pawns.

the trick is to pick something easy to min/max (which typically for me means minimal alternate class levelups right at the start and then the ability to play the final class for the rest of it)

Sorcerer. My go-to class in any RPG is Mage of Mass Destruction. DD's magic does have its issues, though. A lot of the more powerful spells are hard to aim and take an ungodly long time to charge up.
