Both are stuck in a shit game

I wanna get excited for Rad but I'm worried Tim Schafer's gonna do to that game what he did to this game.

She's hot tho.

>Expect a Heavy Metal themed Sacrifice like RTS-hybrid
>You play the RTS part like three or four times in the entire game

wat

Also right.

Can I get the blonde lass instead?

>I wanna get excited for Rad
why? double fine are usually good at story telling, humour and characters. and it focuses on none of these.
instead its all about shitty looking gameplay.

what game

Marry left, furiously fuck right.

Brutal Legend.

Can I choose a KISS amazon instead?

Attached: 1042873-943672_20090601_screen001.jpg (1280x720, 248K)

The whole IT'S ACTUALLY AN RTS shit was memed so hard that I expected the same. Convinced most people dropped it after the first RTS battle and have just parroted each other since

Right with left's outfit.

hot DAMN thats a rocking body

Gdi my ex looks so much like left. Too bad she was also straight edge tho. Why tf date a rocker chick if she isn't interested in sex and alcohol? It's not like she was secretly a traditional values waifu either.

action brainlet that got dabbed on by based rts mechanics

The problem is that the RTS sections are fucking abysmal.

Left, never stuck your dick in crazy

this looks problematic

what game

right

MY MOTHER WAS A WITCH

nobody gets this excited for smoothie time

The RTS sections aren't bad, they're just shallow. That's a problem that plagues the action-adventure parts too though so I was grateful for the change of pace when they popped up

This bitch litterly has toliet paper wrapped around her brests and back lmao

Brütal Legend, PS3 era. Boasted heavy metal soundtrack and aesthetic with voiced by greats like Ozzy Osbourne but also wanted you to believe it was an action game when it was really an RTS. You play as Jack Black played by Jack Black and wield an axe and another axe that plays epic chords that summons thunder and rock

right

>You play the RTS part like three or four times in the entire game

More like seven times.

>we'll never have brutal legend 2 with triple A budget
>we'll never be able to bash onto hiphop/rapfags using our guitars and drums while having blitzkrieg playing in the background
it hurts

Controls for RTS sections are pretty awful. Nevertheless, I liked them, they were quite cool and original idea with some great designs, it just really lacked polish. By the way have anyone even played multiplayer in this game?

>and another axe that plays epic chords that summons thunder and rock
And burning Zeppelin nukes, don't forget about those

It was passable once you learned how to abuse the AI.
The real problem was that almost everything else in the game was just mindless filler.

There were like three or four actual side missions in the entire game. The rest was just
>Go to point
>Trigger event
>Facemelt the units that spawn
Rince and repeat.

Me on the right

The racing missions were fun. Honestly I would just cruise around listening to the radio

>original idea
Not really, but it's not something that's been tried extensively so it's not surprising you'd think it.

Attached: 2370620-genesis_herzogzwei.jpg (685x960, 127K)

Holy fuck did I play the shit out of this as a lad

>By the way have anyone even played multiplayer in this game?
The main game is basically just a tutorial for it and a quite crappy one at that since it doesn't even explain everything like how your stage has multiple defense mechanisms.

Left without the spikey belt.
Right without the eye makeup.

Well look at how broken age turned out
That game is almost all story telling and characters with some minor point and click stuff and was pretty boring/mediocre

RTS, hack and slash, who cares? The best part of Brutal Legend by miles was driving around the map, taking in the fantastic design while searching for lore snippets and dadmetal songs to add to your playlist

youtube.com/watch?v=j333m-aL8GUq
>but titans mined ormagoden's steel flesh from the ground and found it retained the beast's desire for speed
>armour so light it made their warriors run faster
>they made chariots so fast it was hard to find beasts fast enough to pull them
And that is how hot rods were born

Attached: 1552275452432.png (400x400, 14K)

Haven't played that game, so maybe I'm wrong, but judging from google graphics it just seems like a regular RTS. Brutal Legend battles are a controllable squad based RTSs, but you play as a single hero only. I mean, I'm sure that something like that has been done elsewhere indeed, but still it's a rather original take

That and interacting with Ozzy was what kept me motivated to 100% the map. Not that that was particularly hard.

I just made me remember Sacrifice and I've been reading the wiki.

What a fever dream.

Attached: Ethereal_Realm_Stratos.jpg (640x480, 102K)

Pic related is pretty much Brütal Legend's RTS part done right.

Attached: 774197.jpg (579x800, 428K)

holy fuck that game was incredible

whats jablin, jables

You have that right. It sucks that the song restarts every time you exit the car if I remember correctly and the map isn't even particularly big

I wanted the blonde one.

Huh, nice to know, might give it a try. Thanks for recommendation user

It's the forefather of all RTSes. You should probably watch a video - conceptually it's very similar to Brutal Legend's RTS segments and as I recall is noted as a direct inspiration. You control a transforming ship/mech at all times and can get down in the battlefield with the units you create.

Right is getting me stiff.

Wasn't there a blonde chick with big tits in this game?

BRUTAL LEGEND 2 FUCKING WHEN? I WANT TO PLAY AS RIGGNAROK!

Attached: Screen_Shot_2017-12-08_at_8.22.01_PM.png (671x848, 782K)

It was a good game, the rts segments were just forced.

>It's the forefather of all RTSes.
It wasn't. That would be Nether Earth, released two years before it. Herzog Zwei's gameplay mechanics are almost completely identical to Nether Earth's, suspiciously so. For example, in both games you use a flying robot to perform every action from base building to transporting and commanding units.

Attached: 1551998688553.png (680x680, 124K)

Same, she was wife tier while the other one was off being an edgelord

>Action/RTS Hybrid with a metal soundtrack
Sounds familiar

Attached: Overture.jpg (616x353, 126K)

I loved the game, but it was probably the most blatant example of cut content and rushed ending I've seen in vidya
>The demon emperor guy and his armies are hyped as the main bad guys throughout the entire game
>Around halfway in he appears, kills your friend and fucks your shit up to stress that
>Later on his minions conquer and fuck up your hometown to make the grudge against them even stronger
>Finally you finish up the secondary villain faction, who pretty much served as a distraction from the demons and expect to now have a third arc where you finally take them down, like with previous 2 enemy factions
>Lolnope.vinyl
>Demon Emperor appears completely out of the ass right after finishing the Emos
>You start the final battle with them and the final mission of whole campaign right there right now
>The only battle against the supposed main bad guys
>Didn't have a fully fleshed out arc for them
>Din't even liberate your home town, it happened off screen

That game is close to my heart. Enjoy.

The Tim Shafer curse. Dude's so fucking bad with money, it's not even funny.

Fine, fine, here's your (you), you've earned it. Though I'm sure you could probably find an RTS precursor even before that, and I'm also quite sure this particular one is a case of "sounds the same on paper" - the contrast between the two is pretty stark.

Point is it's not an original idea by any stretch.

Attached: moms gonna freak.jpg (1080x1079, 120K)

The worst part is how blatant it is that a third act got cut. Plot doesn't take you back to the first half of the map, but go there yourself and it's torn up and there's a full fucking faction running the place, I'm pretty sure they're even playable in multiplayer

Bobby Kotick might be a money grubber but he was completely correct about Tim Schafer being an incompetent shit

Attached: 1550332603021.jpg (750x368, 240K)

hell yes

I'm more of a Lita guy to be honest.

Attached: Brutal Legend_Lita_and_Eddie.jpg (1024x576, 176K)

Yeah, I'd love to see a sequel someday, but the expensive soundtrack alone keeps me from holding my breath.

At least I got more Psychonauts.

RIght obviously.

Goth>Metal

She just wants to be loved, anons.

She might accidentally call you daddy if you fuck her just right.

Attached: 1468500571_brutal_legend_ophelia_by_ixtianart-d88jgtv.jpg (900x566, 65K)

That last fucking level has the most irritating RTS section ever. I just couldn't complete it without cheesing it.

Shame that the two most heavy metal characters in the game died off-screen. I wanted to see Riggnarok and Succoria in action.

Attached: intro.jpg (1920x1080, 973K)

So what was the best song in the game?

>MMMIIIIISTER CROWLEEEYYYY

Attached: 786596.jpg (1080x1080, 77K)

You can't just ask something like that user, there was dozens of absolutely 10/10 songs in there

>I just couldn't complete it without cheesing it
Played on the hardest difficulty because I'm a faggot and practically every RTS battle started off with flying into their initial troops, facemelting them, then rushing with the immediate number advantage. It was the only way I was getting past it.
Then I saw some speedrun recentlyish and it turns out that actually makes the last mission harder, since they only start playing properly once you cross a certain point of the map

wheres the 3D porn of this game at?

Man, that was such a good bait and switch.

youtube.com/watch?v=O_qRLlnsjhU

Sleeper best girl.

Yeah that's the thing, the whole level is broken because of the the way the second part is triggered. I just remember being fucking furious the whole time I was playing it.

Nowhere.

Game came out before that was much of a thing, and isn't popular enough for people to go back to.

Can't go wrong with Dawn of Battle.
One thing that made me wonder: why was Alice Cooper not included anywhere, neither the game nor the soundtrack?

Beat me to it
Blasted this out the Deuce all day

It sounds so professionally bad. I love it.

Attached: 96497.jpg (600x818, 209K)

How is the PC port?

Shame she didn't get more focus. I imagine that her role would have been bigger in the sequel, considering that she becomes queen.

Attached: Lita_Halford.jpg (1680x1050, 255K)

It was fine

youtube.com/watch?v=UJ4Nel-aHZM

The Coop is way more rock than metal, I can understand leaving him out.

Iron FUCKING Maiden however is a different matter. No song, no mention, none of the band voicing a character, no Eddie. I know Jack Black's character name is a nod to Eddie, but you'd think Tim would have moved heaven and earth to get the character himself into his metal game. Considering they've had video games, their own mobile gacha and even a team up with Angry Birds, I can't imagine the hold up being on the bands end.

>tfw no small tiddy goth gf

Attached: you know.jpg (1200x680, 51K)

All the goth tracks in this sucked. Goth metal really isn't very good, goth rock is better.

Lots of absolutely amazing songs in there, but Symptom of the Universe holds a special place in my heart. I just love the solo and the switch to this slower, more emotional section near the end. Pure beauty

The whole Through the Fire and Flames escape sequence is probably a kiddie answer, but whatever, I was like fifteen when I played it.

Attached: 3485394.png (902x1080, 340K)

lol yeah. I'm working on my comic book at the moment (on sale at amazon)

so thats going to keep me busy for a while.

Of the two, I'm admittedly happy that Psychonauts was the one that was given a second chance, but I think that Brutal Legend still has more room to improve on its general concept.

Attached: psychonauts_art.jpg (3840x2160, 1.56M)

The 3d graphics were to pretty for Maiden, so they wanted nothing to do with the game.

>game about metal
>no metallica song

I think Metallica wanted too much dosh.

If someone else could handle the gameplay for Doublefine games they would be untouchable. Doublefine on the creative side and then Nintendo or Platinum or Capcom. Muy bueno

>lemmy died

The daddy thing is a massive turn off desu senpai.

Is Overture any good for what it is? It has some of the best songs in all of Guilty Gear and it inspired my main in Xrd so I kinda want to check it out.

>rob halford can't sing anymore
Hey, HEY! He can't do the screams anymore but he's still decent at least.

Big tiddy goth gf, I fell for the Metal gf meme once and it sucks. They are too outgoing in a scene with 10% girls to guys ratio, which gets exhausting very quickly.

I wanted to say they should stick to adventures, but then I remembered Broken Age.

Attached: Full_Throttle_artwork.jpg (220x294, 24K)

This, goth is at least 50/50ish for girls

>jennifer hale got woke and is a full blown SJW\leftietard
the fuck? what isn't wrong with western voice actors these days?

Metallica had an exclusive deal with Activision

Metallica is barely pop rock, not metal

Ozzy was fine a year ago even if he needed oxygen ever three songs. Did he get that bad in the year since I saw him last?

Doesnt that open up a whole lot of possibilities?..

Doesn't matter which one of the voice actors die if Double Fine are a bunch of retards who want to keep making trendy "indie" games and will never try to create something again that could actually develop a fanbase.

I must say, despite him being overly zealous about muh politics, Jack Black doing a playthrough of Brutal Legend on his retarded yt channel is actually really good.
There's so much stuff he likes to talk about the insides and behind the scenes of that game.

This thread's making me revisit the old metal stuff I used to listen to back when I was an embarrassing goth

I really liked the art design of Brutal Legend's environments, but I think the sheer size of them had the actual content spread a bit too thin.

Psychonauts's smaller-scale exploration worked because it was filled to the brim with scavenger hunts, secrets, and characters to interact with. While Brutal Legend was more stretched out to justify driving a big car around it.

Attached: drowning doom.jpg (1200x1235, 140K)

Is the Iron Maiden's vidya any good by the way?
>Metallica
I mean, they're not bad or something, but there are just so many much more interesting, better sounding and more original metal bands out there that only a person with no actual interest in music whatsoever would stick to Metallica

>"Hey guys, check it out. I found this cool program called DAZ 3D! I can easily make a cover with that."

You realize Eddie Riggs is a reference not only to Eddie the Head but also Derek Riggs the artist who created him right? They may not have been able to get any of their songs (I recall Tim saying there was complications there) but they sure as hell didn't go unreferenced.

I'd say it's worth a playthrough, finished it in 7 hours. The story is retarded and some characters are questionable, it's also completely different to the previous GG games in tone and artstyle but I suppose that won't be a problem for you if you started with Xrd. The character controls are good, but you end up doing one or two combos most of the time since you smack around mooks instead of fighting 1v1 against the other player. The RTS aspect felt pretty weak but it was serviceable I guess, it's more musou than real action.

I only played through the main story so no multiplayer, which might make me biased. The game would have been much better as a pure action game, would have fit GG more too. The music definitely is the best thing about it.

Is that fucking real?

I genuinely think the goth aesthetic was the best of all of them

>tfw I managed to go to Motorhead's concert in my country half a year before Lemmy's death

This
I really wanted to like it bros, but I just found the game to be boring

Oh, I meant this thing

Attached: leg.jpg (780x417, 102K)

RIGHT

This but the opposite

The story is completely over the top in the best way, and if you're dedicated enough, you can earn a massive chunk of the Eddie's without spending any money. There's PVP and monthly events. They updated the game just yesterday to make it more new player friendly actually.

At the end of the day it's still a gacha mobile rpg, but at least one that has uses 3D models and actually animates everything. You're not just collecting jpegs.

youtube.com/watch?v=Lcm9qqo_qB0

Attached: rust.jpg (1000x1000, 275K)

I really loved all the background lore you could find in the game.

The First Ones trying to kill the world's fire so that they wouldn't have to see themselves for what they were, Ormagöden's corpse veining the world with ore and creating the oceans with blood, the Blackwater Rebellions, etc.

Just wish more of it was laced throughout the main story.

Here are some of my favs, but there was just so many great songs in this game. I was also really pleasantly surprised they put Dethklok in there

How did this come to exist

That Mr Crowley section was great.

Good taste
Damn shame the industrial metal faction was all but cut from the singleplayer

Right
>all the leftfags ITT

Right.

The left looks like she shaves.

I think one of Brutal Legend's weaknesses is that it had more cameos than characters. It was still cool hanging out with Ozzy, and Lemmy, and Rob Halford, but that was about it. They were there to be cool and didn't have much characterization beyond their Heavy Metal street cred.

We needed a few more characters like Ophelia and Tim Curry that explored more about the world and characters themselves.

Attached: EmperorDoviculus.jpg (1920x1080, 1.54M)

I don't even like the hardest metal known to man, but driving through a shower of meteors and demons while Through the Fire and Flames plays is one of those vidya moments that sticks

Attached: 1526342520782.png (497x501, 15K)

Does it have big buxomed babes?

Schafer can suck my big white cock

Like another user said, Activision likely held their rights for songs in gaming. That or too expensive. Blackened or Damage Inc. would've been a nice.

It took me half a decade to realize that Drowned Ophelia is a Hamlet reference.

I remember seeing this game as a younger lad in gameinformer before owning a ps3 or 360 and thought it was the most amazing looking game ever. When I eventually played it, I was a little let down but still really happy with it overall. I look back on it fondly. i wish there was sfm content with ophelia or lita, bitches are hot as fuck. i've wanted to rip the models from the steam version i have but no clue how

You've convinced me. I need my head between metal amazon thighs.

When Schaffer is dedicated, dude knows how to write a compelling story. Eddie, for me, went from Jack Black acting like Jack Black to a really interesting character in its own right.
I completely get why it's an RTS, since Eddie is a roadie, it's the closest gameplay genre that matches the job, but it was awful. I had a on hit kill cheat just to get through the latter part of the game because I just couldn't be bothered with it.
This part was amazingly done.
youtube.com/watch?v=gG7JuRqHUBU

Motorbike boar best creature, shame you have to wrangle one in that one spot anytime you want a proper motorbike. And I'm pretty sure it fucks off when you get off it

Attached: 1546205459425.jpg (1920x1080, 1.14M)

I'm 23 and I just realized this.

They've already been ripped years ago, but don't have a nude version. Lack of interest.

I know a lot of people cite the bait and switch with the RTS stuff, but I still loved the game all the way through

That bit's honestly one of my favorite uses of licensed music in a game.

The baby on the right always gets me. It's like they saw that old baby dancing gif and thought "That's what our metal cover should be"

I don't really remember, couldn't you only ride them for a limited time anyway?

also crimson glory

Look at the neck of the chick in the front right, bowing towards the camera.

That sounds exactly what I wanted from Brutal Legend. A hack and slash that's dripping in heavy metal imagery, with the combat made by Platinum would be amazing.

>couldn't you only ride them for a limited time anyway?
Maybe, remember them combusting before long but I assumed that was ramming damage. The cunts went fast

Quite the opposite. They were volitile and would explode if you ran into too much shit, but you could and were meant to ride them from the starting zone to the last map in the game.

It was one of the more fun achievements to get. You had to ride a boar into the sea of tears, which is the tail end of the last RTS map, so at the end of the game you gotta go back to the start, grab a boar and take it through the entire game and run it into the sea, jumping off before it falls in.

Right.
Giv goth gf.

Yeah, I still prefer the earlier hack-and-slash sections to the latter half of the game, but I still liked a lot of the little ideas during the RTS segments. Like being able to fly down and ride your car through the middle of it, or running into main characters on the battlefield that you can team up with to do special moves.

It's not really a game for in-depth strategy, but I had fun messing around with it.

Attached: lita_by_lorenzmag_d8o2vu0-fullview.jpg (1024x725, 107K)

Maybe at the time they weren't interested in licensing their stuff but nowadays, being a much stronger industry, they'll license to anyone.
What, your neck doesn't break at an angle?
Honestly, how the fuck did they think this was good?

no. sorry. maybe the next comic.

We need more Tim Curry villains in general.

Do you trust modern Schaffer to handle a sequel?
If so, how would you want to do it?

Attached: maxresdefault.jpg (1280x720, 77K)

Tim is whoring himself out on Fanmio, go tell him that

>Tim Curry Boss
>"You're about to see a true stroke of genius!"

Shame about his stroke. I think he still does VA and he seems to be improving his condition but damn. Curry had an amazing presence with just his voice but even his acting was always great to see.

I trust him to write and design it
I absolutely do not trust him to lead the development in any way

Honestly, if Brutal Legend ever resurfaced, it'd be as a mobile game.

>porn
I asked over on /aco/ so maybe we'll get lucky, feller.

>grab a boar and take it through the entire game and run it into the sea, jumping off before it falls in.
Is not dying part of the trigger? I ask because not getting an achievement I went out the way for played on me a while back, and I couldn't remember the game. And I remember doing that, running the gauntlet of horseback scythe faggots and all, minus the jumping off

>Pic related is pretty much Brütal Legend's RTS part done right.

Bullshit. Brutal Legend is built on top of Sacrifice and improves upon it drastically.
The issue is that they were forced to add a campaign to the game, which doesn't really work with the genre.

Sacrifice has the same problem. The campaign is carried by the characters while the actual gameplay against AI is just a braindead tug of war for souls.

You're meant to jump off at the very last so you land safely and the boar keeps going into the goop

I doubt we'll see more Brutal Legend any time soon, but I guess I'd want it to feel a little more dense and worth exploring.

Less big empty open world, and more linear dungeons and populated hub areas. More variety on story and mechanics in side-quests, more balanced structure between combat and RTS, and an in-game memorial for Lemmy.

Attached: lemmy.jpg (1024x640, 186K)

where can I find these ripped versions? even non-nude versions would be really great.

Don't even joke about that.
I like to imagine that his metalhead side would triumph but I really fear him showing off some cool metal imagery and then a character commenting something like "Is that sexist? I'm not sure"

I don't know about best song, I'm not the biggest fan of dragonforce, but the best use of a song was Through the fire and flames

Whenever I played online I always had Once Shot at Glory or the Beautiful People as the first song on my playlist depending on which faction I was playing. Never played with the goths

sfmlab.com/?search_text=brutal legend&incomplete=1&adult_content=1

I played against Tim Schafer in the multiplayer and Double Fine sent me a signed artbook for playing. But they fucked up and sent me 3 in total (2 meant for other people). Now I use them as my monitor stand.

Is online still a thing on Steam? I've never actually played the multiplayer.

That's pretty metal.

Might be worth something some day.

Come on dude, you can't just say something like that and not post a picture for proof

Is this game actually good and/or fun to play?

I bought this game for a few euros last week and somewhat enjoyed it, but after the first RTS part I lost the interest to continue.

It's pretty fun, just know that the gameplay shifts to a half RTS halfway through the game. The art design, music, and level design are top fucking tier

source?

Eh, yes and no. Designs, dialogues, writing and obviously music are 11/10 and it is genuinely extremely fun to just cruise through the map blasting some sweet tracks. But the important mission parts like combat and RTS stuff are really rather unpolished and clunky. Not really terrible, but could have been way better

Gameplay is mediocre all around but everything else elevates the whole
Looks like Jack Black: The Game at a glance but give it some time and you'll be surprised how compelling the plot and setting are

Do you think Lemmy would've liked some over the top memorial with a giant statue of him while metal exhaust pipes spew flames onto the skies or some memorial inside a bar that you might not even notice it at first? Just his hat on top of a pinball machine with a Jack Daniels to the side.

Retard

The problem is that those RTS sections were awful and ended up serving as progression blockers for most people who wanted to get back to playing the actually fun parts of the game.

He really went off the deep end after the release of Brutal Legend. Pretty sure it has only gotten worse since then.

He would appreciate both I think, but he was in general very against cult-of-personality deals and authority in general as a person. But in a vidya, a vidya that is a big tribute to metal music and is supposed to be over the top, I don't think he would mind

based user, thank you. wish there was a regular ophelia rip but i ain't gonna complain

Double Fine has stated few times that if Psychonauts 2 does well enough things like Brutal Legend 2 will most likely get made.

inside they just say 'To user, rock on! (or something to that effect), Tim Schafer'

People shit way too muh on the RTS segments. They were easy as fuck and micromanagement wasnt that much of a bother.

We dont need those nerds. Here's the best song in the soundtrack

I find that really funny for some reason.

Cool. Lucky you. Was that some sort of a beta testing deal or soon after release or you talked with him afterwards? Or does he just send goodies to everyone he plays with?

The way I picture it would be
>Have a mission where you need his hat for a metal ritual
>Some note says his hat is on his memorial
>Find one in the world, over the top, with people there worshiping, giant statue of him with flames and metal on all sides, but no hat
>His actual hat would be in some hidden dive bar, being guarded by some close friend of him to make sure Eddie is worth it.
Also Dio would need some tribute as well.

They are too easy if anything

To be fair, it seems like the entire world went off the deep end when it comes to being offended by stuff.

>People shit way too muh on the RTS segments. They were easy as fuck and micromanagement wasnt that much of a bother.
This. It was seamless and never a chore to implement., just kinda flowed with the rest of the combat.

Hearing in the Hall of the Mountain King cruising around the world was actually the thing that got me into Savatage. They can be hit and miss at times but I love them.

The screamy bits I could have done without.

Beautiful.

Well nothing based about THAT rts. It's shit.

Nice. I'm not the kind of guy to get art books but I'd probably buy one for Brutal Legend.

If only that wouldn't clash so hard with Heavy fucking Metal and what it's about. Worst case scenario would be him getting wet feet and instead of playing it straight, Brutal Legend 2 would become some """""ironic""""" deconstruction shit.

>If only that wouldn't clash so hard with Heavy fucking Metal and what it's about.
Even in metal you have the easily offended types, how that happened I don't know. Hipsters probably.

Legend has it the artist send them a wip with a comment like "I'm thinking of a composition something like this, what do you think?" and the band just ran with it.

The artist also wanted his credit off the album because he was so embarassed.

>#Metalgate is actually a thing

Boggles the fucking mind, man.

youtube.com/watch?v=Q4aagDSM9fY

I think Dio was supposed to voice the villain initially, but he died.

How does it class with Heavy Metal? I think it'd be more one of those cases of people getting upset at strawman of their own perception of a culture while ignoring the reality.

youtube.com/watch?v=xj6T4W-5OM8

I was about to google that but I realized I really had nothing to gain from learning about it.

the thing is that BL itself got this kind of hint that Schaffer was already a bit leftlite like the mission were you start a worker revolution in the mine and you get to fight the manager. Then defend it against enemies, in one of those god awfull static tower shooting thing, to keep it "employee-owned and operated" and that Lionwhyte is a decadent idiot who exploits women in his tower of pleasure.

BL was released in 2009, Dio died in 2010.
>Dio died nine years ago
Fuck, where does the time go.

KILL THE ORCS, KILL THE ORCS, KILL THE ORCS!!

The world setting was an excellent idea and the lore was genuinely interesting, but fuck man they dropped the ball so hard with the actual story execution

Only nine years ago... I was a kid back then. We were supposed to have some school function me and some buds tried our damnedest to get out of it to listen to the memorial broadcast on a local rock station but couldn't.

I think that was more of a jab at hair metal than some comment on politics. The game makes it very blatant that Eddie sees metal as this pure thing that handles deeper topics while hair metal is the equivalent of modern rap, more about fucking around, fucking bitches and being cool.

Oh come on now, free the slaves, beat the whipper is a classic fucking scene, it has nothing to do with SJWism or leftism. Same with harem owning warlord. The fact that he was a degenerate twat was just to make him more unlikeable, it was completely separate from him fucking chicks. With the same logic you could say that BL was actually patriarchal as fuck with how blatantly Eddie is hitting on Ophelia

I've never been the biggest Dio fan but he really was amazing. His cameo in Pick of Destiny was also pretty funny.
youtube.com/watch?v=hvvjiE4AdUI

i hated the last 2 RTS segments, the finales against ophelia and tim curry. they felt like such a difficulty spike compared to the rest of them.

Attached: 1539027137692.jpg (2448x3264, 1.18M)

>Oh come on now, free the slaves, beat the whipper is a classic fucking scene
yup totaly classic fantasy theming just as in pic related

Also about he girl thing Ophelia entire character arc during the whole lionwhyte thing was about how the women in that tower who ended being your ranged units freed themselves without any help from eddie

>you could say that BL was actually patriarchal as fuck with how blatantly Eddie is hitting on Ophelia
sure you could, if you were trying to exagerate and misrepresent the people who use this term in academia or in serious conversation about society and gender inequalities, but you wouldn't do it, would you ?

Regardless of its political leanings, I think we can agree that offending normalfags was always permissible if not welcome in Metal. It's like those people are now part of the scene and getting mad at Monster Magnet having girls shaking their tits in their music videos, while at the same time banging their heads to Bathory. The fuck, man?

Right. High cut thongs make my peenu diamonds

Fucking Sword and Sorcery literature is full of freeing female slaves user and then them often turning into warriors and shit and modern leftists would probably get a heart attack just looking at it

Odd... I could have sworn the game had some Praying Mantis and Manilla Road on it. Then again, I did go on a huge NWOBHM/Heavy Metal phase after playing it so it might be just that. Well, at least Angel Witch checks out.

Yeah, I definitely understand. Like those people that take Steel Panther seriously instead of realizing that's its a parody like Spinal Tap. I'd hope that Tim wouldn't fall into that trap but who knows nowadays. Seems like so many great people no longer see beyond what a twitter post tells them.

I own this album, it looked horribly bad even back in the day

The bondage bitches were the hottest thing in this game. Not just the nun, but the fodder ones you could pick up and throw too (I think). Wish there had been more porn of them.

I see that as more of a "dumb character says something smart for comedic purpose". And female warriors are a staple in fantasy. It's just that nowadays its seen as some grand political statement when before it was more of a "how cool would it be if this sexy woman kicked ass?" More about human endeavor than "WOMEN NO NEED NO MEN"

>Fucking Sword and Sorcery literature is full of freeing female slaves
I'm no expert, but I think they rarely freed themselves on their own without any input from the male protag did they ?
wich is exactly what they do in Brütal Legend, Eddie just stumble on one of their rescue operation and recruits the roaddies doing so after a bunch of them and Ophelia asked for help not to be kept safe or anything but to get their hands on actual weapons to fight against the opressors. I mean this isn't revolutionary anf the game isn't shipped with a membership application form for your local communist party and a free copy of Judith Butler latest book but there is a case to be made about the game hinting a few progressive themes and given Schaffer latest statements I don't think I'm that much in the wrong.

kek
I honestly would've done the same. When asked I'd just say "I worked with Iron Maiden" but never specify on what. Also I'd do the final art and release it anyways just to say "THIS is what I wanted"

If they ever re-release it, it might be a neat idea to commission a true version of the cover from the artist.

My most favorite.
youtube.com/watch?v=trGX3ET3jTQ

I doubt that Tim at the time was trying to pass off some sort of message. It was more of a "The mission has you freeing the slaves, arming them and going against the hair metal leader". It'd be like saying that Tim was actually giving a comment on how metalheads are all dumb because the ones you save mine the rocks through headbanging.

It's getting a remaster in July. Still with the original art. Some releases were smart and just kept the Eddie, they're not doing that this time.

Attached: f828e8abb66a4c17cca3c3e70c323be8.jpg (770x770, 92K)

That's what I'd do. I'm sure even the band has to be embarrassed on how that cover looks. Unless the merch sells well, in that wearing ironically way.
That works much better actually.

And I wouldn't have it any other way.

Attached: Mercenary Simon Bisley Heavy Metal.jpg (1142x1600, 450K)

Don't die on me

>It'd be like saying that Tim was actually giving a comment on how metalheads are all dumb because the ones you save mine the rocks through headbanging.
Yes and no because this is adressed in a dialog with Lars when Lars broadly say that he can't do shit with this bunch of idiots who only know how to bang their heads and Eddie decide that they have the potential to rise and revolt to be an actual fighting force and decide to free them, in the end the gameplay even goes to show that the best thing he could do was play the Solo to make them fight their own fight. also the games makes them to invent siege weaponry and be overall smarter than they look.
Beside Eddie only help the girls get their first weapons, after that they do fine on their own and become an essential part of the metalheads army out of their own volition.

again this isn't revolutionary but you can't really deny that there is coding and theming that would go to say that Schaffer was already "tainted" politicaly speaking

I wish I had the chance to go to a Motorhead concert. You're a lucky man, user.

Whichever one doesn't make the game turn into an RTS for no reason.

i've been told Ministry are generally meh overall but fuck me if that wasn't one of the best driving missions because of that song.

Thankfully, metalheads told SJWs to fuck off because they've had decades of experience dealing with moral panics. I hope Schaefer knows that shit won't fly with metalheads.

Maybe I'm just naive but I tend to see that sort of thing as more about the character's humanity, not politics. Which is why I hate what happens nowadays, where everything is very clearly about politics and not about each person's humanity.
>It's not that this guy is greedy, it's that he's republican
>it's not that this guy's judgmental, it's that he's a liberal
Fucking hate that shit.

remove the RTS elements and make it more like a God of War hack and slasher, and it would've been great.

God I fell in love with Savatage hardcore. Devastation was my favorite track in Hall of the Mountain King. Brutal Legend was the game that pushed me over into metalhead territory. I'd listened to some over the years through vidya, but Brutal Legend made me fall in love with the genre as a whole.

It's a shame that Pretty Maids wasn't in the game, since they're one of my top 5 bands.

Can a game like Brutal Legend with it's soundtrack even exist anymore? I swear Music copyright laws have gotten completely fucked since that came out.

HAIL
TO THE QUEEN
OF THE MASQUERAAAAADE

I don't think they'd have changed that much, but I think music publishers would want to charge more because of how much lucrative video games have gotten over the past decade.

Now that you mention it, I'm surprised DoubleFine hasn't had the GTA problem or the Alan Wake problem of having to remove the songs.

Thanks. I'm actually reading through the entirety of Heavy Metal right now as an inspiration for a Brutal Legend-esque metal inspired /tg/ setting I'm writing, but haven't got to that yet

Well yeah, I wouldn't necessarily want zero open-world, I just wouldn't mind having more structure or more populated towns to see alongside it.

The characters are trying to build up a kingdom and the biggest settlement we see is a makeshift campsite for a few NPCs outside of our tour bus.

Attached: d3bdd17-caa63ab6-b388-491c-acb5-5510c731f4f1.jpg (809x1094, 110K)

It's probably because it was mostly released back on xbox360, it wasn't that easy to enforce patches back then. The PC port didn't come out until years later

They seem to have become even more protective, specially since streaming has fucked them over. Hell, musicians used to live off of records and toured to promote the album, now the albums are just a necessity, touring will still leave you in the red and you have to depend on selling merch.

And Bisley did some Mutant Chronicles art. That's where I recognise the style as well.

Enjoy the fever dream that is Druuna, user.

Attached: heavymetal_girl_a1_13_26.jpg (1200x1468, 181K)

That's kind of what I mean. Music Publishers have been asking for arms and legs for songs to use in Video games for the past few years because they now know how much money they can make if successful.

1d4chan.org/wiki/Setting:Hail_and_Kill
/tg/ actually worked on something like that back in 2011. I was one of the guys who helped come up with the Sunset Isles since I was a huge hair metal dork back then.

Same goes for San Andreas but they patched songs from that. So either the licensing still hasn't expired or the music publishers still haven't noticed.

I know, I'm trying to do a bit of my own spin on the idea though and treat it more like a literary project, already published few short texts from it for an amateur writing competition and got to half-finals so far. None in English though I'm afraid

So has metal really changed over the 2010s? What new subgenres have emerged? Seems the biggest things that the 2000s did for metal was djent, and deathcore.

>Jack Black is doing a Let's Play of it on his channel and he never edits out the audio
>it has almost 4 million subs and almost every video he puts out hits trending
Yeah, so the hammer is gonna come down pretty hard on this game soon isn't it

it´s amazing how much sjw have destoreyed gaming and any media in general
nowadays if a game had a character like that it wouldn´t even be allowed to be released on ps4

I wouldn't say they've destroyed vidya, but we'll look back on this decade like how people look at movies and comics in the 50s, very little creative freedoms due to corporate and social forces. At least I hope that's how we'll look back on it.

The music publishers didn't adapt to the internet fast enough. Their revenue was pretty much cut in half when streaming took off. Now it's over half of where their revenue comes from, and it still hasn't matched the numbers they used to get.
Metallica vs Napster is mostly seen as a joke but Lars saw what the future brought and at least he tried to do something about it. Unfortunately, the music publishers thought they couldn't be taken out, same with book publishers thinking that Amazon would never overthrown them.

Attached: hqdefault.jpg (480x360, 12K)

>Fucking Sword and Sorcery literature is full of freeing female slaves user
This is true.
>and then them often turning into warriors
This is false.

the saying that "everything is political" is indeed dreadful but some critics and academics would make the case that art and medium in generals are political because as Aristotle say "man is a political animal" and that means that what we do has a meaning for our fellow citizens (if you didn't know the greek word for city is "polis" and the greek "polis" was for all intent a polis-tical body and to be a citizen was to be political as it was to be literally a man of the city (if you already knew that feel free to call me a faggot retard for droning my mouth)).
to go back to your exemple, if a man is greedy, his greed has a political meaning, it will affect the way he relates to others, to society and also to the way he will perceive the laws and political actions being made perhaps it will even motivates him to engage himself in politic, to run for office, to lobby his interest as a greedy man. if he lives in a democratic society he will votes in relation to his traits as a human being. What starts as a simple individual feature ends up being politicized by the simple act of living as a member of society, as a man of the "polis".
you cannot be not political, no matter how hard you try, and my point was that Schaffer wasn't even trying

also on another note the game tried a lot of things at once in terms of gameplay and ended up doing all those thing in a very shallow and not very good way.

Not much that I know of. Just subgenre of subgenre of subgenre.
>What if prog was even proggier
Having every rock star saying rock is dead doesn't help matters.

I like both.

>Having every rock star saying rock is dead doesn't help matters.
Wait what?

I'm more sad how they're eroding the middle ground. It's either burqa or porn nowadays. What happened to the good ol' fanservice?

Attached: barbarian_girl2_13_26.jpg (1200x847, 194K)

Don't doubt it. Maybe due to Jack Black they can get around it and get a new deal. All they need to do is renew the contract, but they need to balance how much Brutal Legend still makes against all those licensed songs. And unlike San Andreas that's just the radio, for Brutal Legend it's a necessary and integral part of the game.

No i don’t trust him

Shmeeb, is that you?

Because retards can't handle even a little bit of fanservice without bitching how "it's distracting" or "if I wanted to fap I'd just watch porn".

No

I frequent a bit of Ultimate-Guitar and it seems that every week there's an article on how rock star saying how rock is dead, how rap is taking over the rock spirit, how rock bands are going for more pop stuff, while also promoting their album that's more pop, how Hard Rock Cafe isn't even playing rock music anymore.

>how Hard Rock Cafe isn't even playing rock music anymore.
What the fuck. But yeah, I can see how rap has kinda replaced rock as the "rebellious youth" music. I think metal has just become niche again.

Really? You sure?

My favorite thing about Brutal Legend was that at just about anytime driving around that map, you could take a random screenshot of it and it would probably make for a bitchin' Metal Album cover

Yeah, last time I checked

Greta Van Fleet is (somehow) almost reviving rock single-handedly though

/thread

I actually knew about that but I didn't remember. Thanks for that.
But while I completly understand why people say that everything is political, I'd argue that those human traits extend towards politics but it's not the starting point.
In other words, you can have a straightforward story about humanity and from there extrapolate a political message. What happens nowadays is that it starts at the political message and, if the creator bothers with it, tries to extract humanity from it. That's what truly bothers me. Growing up, having seen a bunch of stuff like this
I never saw this as sexist because I never saw it as exploitation. I saw a female character who's both sexy and fully in control. Like Bayonetta. I saw the humanity of the character, not the politics of the author.
And while it's true that creatives will obviously write what they believe to be morally right, which includes their political leanings, I still see what he writes in Brutal Legend as more of "this sounds cool". Maybe if he wrote a sequel today, that thought process would be "this sends a good message"
>also on another note the game tried a lot of things at once in terms of gameplay and ended up doing all those thing in a very shallow and not very good way.
That I agree. The gameplay is unfortunately the weakest part of the game.

I don't see it. They might as well be a Led Zeppelin cover band for how much they're actually adding to the rock genre. They're a novelty act, at least right now. Hopefully they create their own image down the line, instead of the singer trying to both act like Robert Plant while also saying he's not that influenced by him.
I have more trust in Ghost, bringing back the theatricality that metal used to have, while actually doing his own thing.

same, I just discovered this band recently, i didn't know they were that popular

I do fucking love Ghost.
Now that I think about it, Tobias Forge would be an amazing character in a theoretical Brutal Legend 2. As a hero or a villain.

True. They're good, but they don't add anything substantial to the genre and that is needed for a true revival
>Instead of the singer trying to both act like Robert Plant while also saying he's not that influenced by him.
Ironically, ripping off somebody's style and claiming it's not true sounds exactly like something Plant would do

I get the excuse but it's very clearly just because rap in mainstream and Hard Rock Cafe is a business that has to adapt, despite the name. The article I saw said they were also playing Shakira so it's not exactly about the rebellious spirit. I also remember Dave Grohl saying how mumble rap was the new punk. I get where he's coming from but damn, that just ain't right.
>I think metal has just become niche again.
It always was. Metallica is the only one that somewhat broke through to the actual mainstream. Most of the other bands at the time kinda rode the Metallica wave, but they crashed as well when Grunge took over, then 90's rap, etc. Metal was always a niche within rock music. Nowadays it's more of a niche admittedly. Metallica still ride high, the other thrash bands still do alright, classic metal bands mostly live off of their backlog, and new bands can't seem to break through because the industry is completely fucked.

isn't that whole shitstorm over Stairway kind of proving that's exactly what he did

>new bands can't seem to break through because the industry is completely fucked.
How so? I'm curious.

kek
I do avoid hating on them, even thought it's very clearly the safest, most commercial push for a rock band I've seen in ages, but who knows. Pantera started out as a hair metal band, and they revolutionized the genre with their groove metal that I still haven't seen anyone truly match.
I still haven't gotten too deep into Ghost but I think the guy is a genius from what I've seen. He'd be a pretty good fit for a VA, more of a subtle acknowledgement by Schaffer, assuming he likes Ghost.

Before the internet, you'd always see a bunch of new bands with publisher backing popping up. But, in the same way that Amazon killed traditional book publishing, shit like Spotify killed the music industry. Basically, instead of publishers taking their big hitters to finance smaller bands and see where they lead, now you're either on top or you're told to go fuck yourself. Do you have a good demo? Well, you either convince the publisher that you're going to make millions or you're as vulgar as a youtube video of a woman playing the acoustic while looking sad.
The internet age, with the whole idea of giving everyone a voice, just made it near impossible to truly break out. Even established musicians have felt the sting since nowadays they have to tour non-stop just to make ends mean. No more hard parties in hotels, no more mansions by the beach.

>Even established musicians have felt the sting since nowadays they have to tour non-stop just to make ends mean. No more hard parties in hotels, no more mansions by the beach.
Man that's depressing to think about.

>brutal legend thread
fuck yeah

>you can have a straightforward story about humanity and from there extrapolate a political message
I see where you're going but were does the human ends and where does the politic begins ? the arguments behind "everything is political" is that you can't separate them: to act as a human is to act politicaly even tho our "modern democratic society" have narrowed politics to a performative teamsport. We cannot help ourselves we are political because by essence we live with other humans and to live with other humans is the foundation of the greek polis ( I've suffered at great lengh through greek philosophers and etymology so know you do to). Even those human traits you talk about didn't appear out of thin air: one got greedy because perhaps he lived with other human beings who may have been greedy themselves and he took that traits from them: he may have lived in a political climate that was prone to turn him into a greedy individual and as a greedy citizens he wants the city to be run in a way that makes him rich and not to have to give money to taxes or charity.
From refusing to give a coin to a beggar to lobbying for a law that says that beggar should be exiled from the city this is the same human trait manifesting itself in the political life of an individual.
as for the "sexism" bayonetta was never called out as an "anti-feminist character" because as you said she's fully in control (and also because she kinda plays into the femme fatale trope). and the political message is, in my opinion, self contained into the writting, no matters what Schaffer was thinking about when writting: I simply think that I can read a political text within the story. However I do agree that there is some kind of trend ammong writters to go the other way around and to be obvious with their political themings, but it might also be our reading that got tainted by a quite honestly terrible political climate in our day and age.

I think it comes down to whether you want to tell an interesting story or just make propaganda to beat your audience over the head with.

Yeah. This hits more than just the music industry though. Now you're either one of the selected few on top of some creative field or you're not going to make a living off of it. You're either J.K. Rowlings or you get a different job, or either Taylor Swift or you get a different job.
A musician from my country, despite having a band that's toured the world, has a loyal fanbase, some great music, still has to get a teaching job. The band is called Moonspell btw.
Before the internet, if you were skilled, even if not the best, you could make a decent middle class living. Now you really can't. How can your creativity compete with a billion other people on the same platform, how can it compete with auto-generated programs that practically nullify your existence? You get a different job.
The world is fucked.

Everything is getting fucking monopolised, people are more than willing to give out their privacy for a little extra comfort, the elites can do whatever the fuck they want as long as they wait long enough for the media to get bored with the topic, the values are all fucked up and depression rates are skyrocketing. We have entered a dystopian cyberpunk future and haven't even noticed when it happened

We got a dystopian cyberpunk futures without all the cool cyberpunks tuff.

it does, but perhaps the desire to tell an interesting story may be fueled by a deeply rooted political opinion, I mean, I could make a marx-fueled class analysis of fucking Dirty Dancing if I was absolutely cocked-up. I won't because I'm not a maniac but there is political theming here, I will rest my case here because I'm affraid I will just go full-circle if I continue but my point is that the simple fact of making two human beings interract even in a fictional setting will always be open to political interpretation and have a political undertone.

>it might also be our reading that got tainted by a quite honestly terrible political climate in our day and age.
I can agree to this possibility but there's been several cases, specially in gaming, where that clearly hasn't been the case.
That being said, I see what you mean but it would take a smarter version of myself to fully express what I think. While yes, everything is political just by the nature of how we are, I see a difference in saying "that man is greedy" and "that man is greedy due to or in-spite of his political inclinations."
For Bayonetta I remember a lot of articles trying to play that card, instead of seeing a woman in control, very femme fatale, they saw a symbol for sexism and anti-feminist movements.

Thanks, dude

.........is it possible to make love to both? optimally at the same time?

>will always be open to political interpretation and have a political undertone.
I'll just paraphrase Dee Snyder during his testimony to the PMRC back in the 80s (which everyone should watch),
"If you look hard enough into anything, you'll always find what you're looking for."

are you hole? because your long ass post are boring
also
what bands gener you like?

Pretty much. I've been spending most of my ideas, instead of doing what I love, writing, I'm spending my time trying to think of some equivalent to Amazon or Spotify or Patreon, a service that gathers people and all I have to do is sit back and watch the money come in off of other people's hopes and dreams.
We have some. But the sun is still out so according to those anti-CP77, it's not a cyberpunk.

maybe in 500 years you know tec progres needs to be controling and supervised

I actually thought about that, but then I thought of myself in the user's position and realized how I'd be taken advantage off. I might just be too good a person to actually create one of these services. Why wasn't I born a sociopath?

could i have one? that would be super sick to have

You could order them off the Double Fine website back in February of 2013.

>If you look hard enough into anything, you'll always find what you're looking for.
yes but I'm not looking to find satanist propaganda, it's not about esoteric knowledge it's about human beings and the simple fact that they are political animals and therefore subjects to an analysis on a political basis

>I see a difference in saying "that man is greedy" and "that man is greedy due to or in-spite of his political inclinations."
I would more likely say that his greed and his political inclination cannot be separated and that to understand that man we must take into account how he acted towards his fellow men and that those actions will include his politics, or to go further: his actions are political and those actions must be understood through a prism of politic.
for the bayo thing I don't remember those articles but it is a real possibility that they exist, I would argue that the people who wrote them were a bunch of morons who didn't understood shit about feminism and coding in media.

I couldn't understand your post mate could you rewrite it, fi it weren't too much to ask K thanks

I think you're conflating political with social. Not everything we do is to obtain and maintain the means to govern over other humans. I think it's a highly reductionist view of human nature.

Firehouse is based. Can't believe they actually got a song in there.

political is social, politics isn't just about dominance, it's about how we relate to society and each other. as I keep saying the greek "polis" wasn't just the State it was the entire community of citizens that made the city, more than by it's laws the city was defined by the people living in it and the way we make the laws and the way we interract with each other is closely interlinked, what is a tradition if not an unwritten law that a community impose on itself ? and yet tradition wouldn't be inherently political to you or so I understand.

I'm very fucking tired and I don't know where I'm going with this. Also the Foucault pic is moslty there for bait

IT WENT BACK UP BECAUSE METAL DOESN'T DIE
Seriously, this has been a great Brutal Legend and general metal talk thread.

Take a rest user, I imagine we'll probably beat this topic to death in another thread someday. Hopefully the two of us won't derail it when it happens.

>nowadays if a game had a character like that it wouldn´t even be allowed to be released on ps4
Surely you jest...

I've been into metal for a long time and this game still managed to surprise me with new stuff, I was expecting them to just grab songs from mainstream bands. Brocas Helm is probably one of my favorite bands featured in the game and I never heard about them before I played it.

The right is ceased to be relevant in the overall war on free expression in the 2000s.

t. selective memory

Care to name some examples of right wing family values types getting a game banned? Of right wing family types getting invited to influential media conferences saying how games must push their social values?

Eh, I don't see how. It's basically allowing people to writefag on request for dollars.

If it succeeds it could be an agent thing.

Friendly reminder that kotick was right

Because that person should be getting hired, with all the benefits that come with it, instead of being basically a freelancer in this constant limbo. It gives more power to companies and less to the people. Unfortunately it seems to be where the world is headed.
