Well, with the way they go about damage in trials, there's not much they can do, since every healer needs to have powerful, on-demand burst healing, both AoE and ST, as well as some kind of preventive healing.
They closed many options by doing things that way.

Alternate worlds are never executed well. The battle with the Garleans is finally heating up and heading toward a conclusion of some kind instead of the endless stalemate, but now we're shunted off and away from it for no real reason. Stormblood suffered from its split plot and this will as well, but at least Stormblood was still on our world and had something to do with it.

The story peaks just before major bosses in each expansion (End of ARR, just before HW, end of HW, just before SB, end of SB) and has tons of filler before that point. ARR is especially bad about the filler though, from the start and after ARR's credit roll.

The writers do a pretty good job setting up major events, but then the budget runs out for actually doing stuff so you get some slow, plodding exposition to fill the time until the devs begin to make some gameplay content to go with stuff.

So I've noticed that all the new zones have a new type of Aetherite you can see in the trailer (pic). All except one: Ahm Araeng, which sports the regular Eorzean aetheryte.

This and the fact that Ahm Araeng doesn't have that creepy bright and clouded sky makes me think it's in Eorzea/Ilsabard as opposed to the other zones which are in The First.
