Everyone knows Goomba, Koopa Troopa and Shy Guy more than Simon, Bayonetta and Joker. Why not add all Mario and Zelda mooks? They're iconic. You're gay.

None of what he's saying means none of the characters in pic related will ever get in. He says he doesn't pay much attention to the surprise factor, maybe because he focuses on making the character good? And the characters being hero and heroine thing doesn't matter because either way most of the characters they will add will be either a good guy or bad guy. Wacky animal PR plant or whatever characters will be added regardless of whatever he says because he's adding characters people like. Not everyone likes, but some do. He added ken, a human. Then incineroar, an animal. Then plant, then joker, another human. Not that its a pattern like that, but he's adding a good balance or creatures with humans. Since we already have a million human characters in smash, he seems to be going a different route to bring variety. I Dont want Geno, but we Dont have a wooden/puppet character. So that seems likely. Banjo was always heavily requested and he's not an anime swordsman. He chose the plant as pre order doc because he's popular and everyone knows him so it probly increased pre orders for Mario lovers. That doesn't mean obscure less popular characters so t get in. A Microsoft rep is 100% at this point.
