10/10, нa кoнчикaх пaльцeв

its a masterpiece and i install it again today to have a good giant map play rampart pick jenova and fuck bitches.

drinking hot choclate while playing homm3 is the pinnacle of humanity

Attached: 1310567657364.jpg (515x589, 70K)

Amazing game, though the "run the fuck away" AI mentality annoys me.

Excellent, spent a lot of my childhood playing the shit out of this game

It's great

Attached: oXBGR7zkR8w.jpg (650x815, 192K)

Honest opinions on HotA?

Balances some things, which is nice, but then throws in an unbalanced DONUT STEEL town.

Personally I prefer the unbalanced as fuck, yet fun, unmodded game. Counter your opponents crazy overpowered shit with your crazy overpowered shit.

comfy as fuck

Looks really cool but i just started playing and i don't know if im doing it right, i lost my first encounter to a bunch of vampires

Vampires are no joke, user.

dead franchise

It can be very overwhelming if you're new. The gog version comes with pdf versions of the manual and creature compendium, you could play with the compendium open until you learn how strong certain enemies are
Don't underestimate even low level magic, haste/slow/bless can change the outcome of a fight monumentally.
Don't underestimate the Wait command either, creatures attack in order of highest speed to lowest speed, by 'waiting' you skip that unit towards the end of the turn e.g. you can let enemy melee units come closer first so your range units can then deal more damage.
Buy extra heroes to scout the map for resources and to chain units to your main hero.
Also keep in mind that your hero's movement points depend the terrain and the slower unit in their army.
Also get the HD mod for QoL fixes (optionally - horn of the abyss, a fanmade expansion with a bunch of new stuff and online lobby)

Cove isn't that op. Their tier 7 creature can't even fly.

Castle is an easy town to start playing with, pretty balanced and self
explanatory. If you can, get Sir Mullich, he makes all units MUCH faster. Mobility is the key, so learn logistics ASAP and give your main hero speed boosting artifacts (gloves and boots to boost logistics, cape to speed up your units), unless you have some really powerful stuff instead. In the first week focus on building creature spawning buildings to gather an army and explore the map and only then build tha capitol/town hall in your first town. Always take gold from the chests, since if you ever have more gold than you can spend you are probably close to winning the game anyway

Good luck.

And yet it wins most of 100vs100 fights with Archangels, Titans and Behemoths eveb if they attack first.

It was fun coming back to this game and realizing there's much more strategy to it than I knew as a little kid, like building supply chains with several expendable heroes or baiting counterattacks with 1 unit stacks.

Is necropolis not op because their t7 sucks ass?

played the shit out of that game... fuck it i am going to reinstall!

What does it have to be superior?

What were they thinking?

Trolls were objectively best shooters in the previous games so I guess they wanted to make them less of a no-brainer. Also they made them cyclopses for some reason.

Then they gave them tactical nukes as a normal attack in HOMM4. Funny how that went.

Attached: FMaEgXmpTb0.jpg (363x480, 46K)

VI pisses me off so much. It genuinely had a number of great elements, but at the same time did so many steps back. On one hand you have really good combat with interesting unit abilities, on the other you have 3 (three) resources and the ass-backwards territory system. So many bad decisions that I'm sure were completely avoidable. At least VII was just bland nothingness all around so I don't even feel sorry for it.

The way they fucked up the hero progression was the worst, completely removing the strategic element of mage guilds from it and just making it lame ass rpg progression where you can choose whatever. Also being able to transform towns removed hero and unit-mixing almost entirely, since your factional special ability only works with units of your faction, heroes of other factions can't be used either.

That sounds awesome! Consider checking out what Timothy Duncan (aka Corvidius) did with his HoMM III maps. Also, be sure to update us on its progress on /vr/'s HoMM general.

>Timothy Duncan (aka Corvidius)
Got any links to the lad? Maybe I'm just daft, but I can't find anything
It still is in early developement and properly handling AI is probs my greatest fear
Also got any general tips for the editor? Especially when it comes to scripts, that'd be handy, because for what I know, basic editor does not really provide that many tools to work around shit like triggers, reactive environments, etc. I also found that some of the decorative probs you used in your maps ain't available in basic HotA editor. Where the hell did you get them?

You are weird.

Sure

Attached: 1518210429290.jpg (811x503, 46K)

Older ones (1-3) are extremely comfy. Third is uiversally regarded as the best one.

Attached: 1527784713194.jpg (814x1012, 116K)

Yes
If it would be only solely for aesthetics. Perfect combination of fantasy and fairy tales
Also give a shot to M&Ms while you're at it
youtube.com/watch?v=QaUMEsdECVs

>M&Ms
6-8 specifically take place in the same world as HoMM 1-3. Those games really add some new perspective to the setting. Especially to stuff like Inferno

>Dungeon in III
>seven different underground monsters

>Dungeon in V
>faggy dark elves and their pet hydra

Attached: 866d361885ab7c1116d2cf8394ee65f1.png (721x489, 137K)

They also have minotaur slaves.

>Got any links to the lad?
Here you go:
>maps4heroes.com/heroes3/maps.php?keywords=timothy

>Especially when it comes to scripts, that'd be handy
HoMM III is terrible in that regard - you only have Timed Events (in Map Specifications) and Event baubles that you have to physically place on the map. There are ways for you to force the AI to do things you want them to do (check out the map "From the Depths of Hell" as an example) but it requires a lot of planning.

>Where the hell did you get them?
Which decorations are referring to - could you name them or circle them on the concept map?

Attached: 1.jpg (591x592, 117K)

HoMM V was incredibly mixed bag
Some towns were pure kino like Haven and Inferno, some oscillated above and below mediocre, aka Necro, Academy, Sylvan, as it was either aquired taste or tried to adhere to fans of other series, WoW/WH namely ...
... and then there was irredeemable garbage that was Dungeon. Fuck me sideways, that was incredible mauve shite

I love it, but I need more good custom maps. I have played the 100 or so that I have to death

Dude warhammer dark elves lmao

Thanks user
I know for sure I was not able to find waterfall prop decoration that was in your Fortress Concept map in the northern section
But again, maybe I'm just a blind fuckhead faggot, though I could swear I have turned the editor upside down and found nothing

The entirety of V was warhammer-ized, they completely abandoned the charming and naive high fantasy aesthetic in favor of the "fantasy: grit edition" look that became extremely popular in early 00s'. Looked kind of novel at the time, however, it hasn't aged well as everything looks beyond generic.

That would be okay with better visual. But in HoMMV everything looks like cheap plastic toys.

At the very least 6 and 7 showed they were aware of the problem, they cut the dark elf units in half and added something else.

>I know for sure I was not able to find waterfall prop decoration that was in your Fortress Concept map in the northern section
Oh, that's because the prop could only be found in this map - probably left by the HotA team despite not including them in the map editor for whatever retarded reason! You can use the copy-paste function to add them into your map.

I wonder if there'll ever be added something comparable to ERM in WoG for HotA, that'd make scenario making absolutely great. I thought HotA was actually based on tools and software made by WoG team, but considering there ain't any traces left for further use ...

>I wonder if there'll ever be added something comparable to ERM in WoG for HotA, that'd make scenario making absolutely great
Hopefully, the HotA team will implement something similar to it one day.

I swear to god, some of the loss incarnations are beyond mortals imagination

play 3 and 5 those are universally regarded as the best, 2 is only praised by nostalgia fags but 3 is pretty much an improved version of it, if you are gonna try 5, get the 5.5 mod wich makes it a lot better, don't bother with 6 and 7 they are shit, 4 is a mixed bag desu try it if you want to see if you enjoy it

Yes. I really dislike how everything Warcraft-related looks past 2nd game. And HoMMV was also made by infamous Russian devs who really suck at visual design.

post best song from the OST

Battle 4 is best song, im legit still listening to this song

youtube.com/watch?v=uppBOa9I0Hg&list=PL7E9321FFF8A2FDC3&index=2

That's the song of a desperate battle, the very last stand

Attached: 33SgMGkpX_Y.jpg (1000x1288, 152K)

it looks nice but I can't imagine playing it.
Why so tight?

Attached: images.jpg (271x186, 8K)

Archangels and clone spell is the most powefull combo in the game.

>That's the song of a desperate battle, the very last stand
I like how other people get the same impression! For me, it goes like this:

Battle theme 1 - early fights with neutral monsters or a fight between two weak heroes:
>youtube.com/watch?v=LDsHw4AjuYw
Battle theme 2 - a definitive 'fuck their shit up' theme mandatory for fights in which you're on an equal footing with your enemies, be they enemy heroes or large stacks of neutral monsters [my favorite]:
>youtube.com/watch?v=gLVTyp27mGo
Battle theme 3 - a theme appropriate when pitting your main against weaker heroes or stacks of higher-leveled neutral monsters:
>youtube.com/watch?v=-_Mt7Pys0FI
Battle theme 4 - a more somber kind of theme appropriate for sieging or defending against sieges, encountering heroes that overpower your own forces or fighting against a very tough monster stack - all of will result with you losing a lot of your army (or just losing outright):
>youtube.com/watch?v=49S9m5TGsUM

Honorable mentions from other HoMM games (excluding the ones made by Ubi because I honestly can't remember their battle themes) are the following:
HoMM IV's more contemplative and sorrowful battle theme 4 (this was a tough choice since theme 2 and 3 are also really good);
>youtube.com/watch?v=hNYV7vCpayg
HoMM II's tribalistic sounding drums in battle theme 2 (kinda reminds me of the "Populous the Beginning" soundtrack):
>youtube.com/watch?v=6NbicLyBjwM
HoMM I's battle theme 1 (but I fluctuate between liking theme 1 and 2 more frequently):
>youtube.com/watch?v=NwgODYMxv-8

Fiery Dragons were the shit. Stack em up and cast chain lightning for ubar damage.

Like I've said to user before, it is meant to be bit RPGish in the early game, with lots of secrets, different routes with different outcomes, while proper HoMM3 gameplay with vast armies commences later on
That pic is basically borderline heart of the jungle, actually trying to emulate the looks and the feel of Kurast from Diablo 2
Proper swampy, open plateaus are planned, don't worry

Stronghold 121 red rush is the most powerful combo in the game.

Attached: 1515955365329.jpg (1280x840, 123K)

I preferred HOMM2, the castles looked better, music was better too.

The solution is to buy everything you can.

Romero is a fucking genius. Just like it is said, no matter how each title differs or how possibly diverted and screwed up it is, Romero's soundtrack always hits the spot
youtube.com/watch?v=SkuPY3sweZQ
I only wish they had proper, complete philharmonic orchestra, it really is lacking in string section, while the choir is maybe too pronounced sounding

Excellent game for when you have no internet

hearty chuckle

Aight I've uploaded about 4k maps of mine here: ufile.io/6xynn

I've highlighted two XL maps that I like most overall with two variations of each, one vanilla and one I've modified to my liking (giving the shitty AI advantages such as most buildings being built from the getgo as well as a fairly strong hero to make it more challenging. Just check in the map editor which color doesn't have said advantages and play that

Other than that I've had an alright time on

War of Titans:

Attached: 1516121648409.jpg (1200x799, 190K)

>Romero's soundtrack always hits the spot
Well, IV was kinda controversial because of how much he relied on sampled music (the copyright holder even tried to sue him for that).

>maps4heroes.com/heroes3/maps.php?keywords=war of titans&type=&size=&difficulty=&sort=5
Looks comfy, I'll have to check it out!

wow gotta listen to this, thanks

hey can someone recommend one town map to play ?

They also replaced cembalo with a piano, which is really noticable

Is HOMM2 worth getting in to if I liked 3?

Attached: 1552594548119.jpg (632x454, 63K)

121 red?

Am i retarded or is the campaign not as easy it looks?

Is there a good guide for someone who hasn't played HOMM3? I played the tutorial but I still feel like i'm missing a lot.

Attached: 1552593687906.jpg (1096x1160, 266K)

Trial and error.

What's the newest game that's the mostlike HoMM3? I've played this game to death but I wanna try something new but similar. Are the kings bounty games the closest to it?

Attached: 264.gif (170x196, 919K)

Play 5

The time between turns fucking kills it for me. It takes like 5+ minutes on larger maps

Attached: mikabonk2.gif (100x100, 24K)

Played it the other day I hated it. Hated the designs for the factions and hated the way it played but I respect what it is going for

They're pretty similar but it's worth giving it a playthrough

Just play it. Minmaxing will kill all the fun.

Fair warning, HOMM2 is unbalanced. It has old-ass graphics which means it has soul (duh) but if you get irrationally angry at abhorrent game balance this game will give you an aneurysm. HOMM3 is a better game in every way.

Succession wars never fucking ever

Attached: you will never get the succ.png (800x600, 394K)

>Hated the designs for the factions
In HoMM3? What didn't you like about it?

Can't you speed it up somehow?

In multiplayer the order of turns is determined by the colour you choose, red player always goes first. This means that on the first day of the second week of the first month (121) you can hire your army, chain convoy it to your main hero and attack the enemy before he gets his turn, thus being unable to hire his army. You can do that on any monday really, but since Stronghold can just get all their good shit week one you can make it a really strong timing push.

Attached: 1527801872386.jpg (1200x1668, 277K)

>HOMM2 is unbalanced

Attached: Brain HOMM.png (857x1202, 1.37M)

3 wasn't particularly balanced either.

am I retarded

You're capable of learning but you can't really sink any lower

They just felt uninspired to me. They all just sort of took a bunch of standard fantasy creatures/characters and smashed them into groups.
The only one I liked was the necromancer shit and that's mainly because I like skeletons
I did like the city screen shit for most of the factions tough

depends on the campaign, some of them are retard proof, some actually need you to try and git gud

Chronicles had the best campaigns faggets

Attached: Chronicles.jpg (800x600, 354K)

>They all just sort of took a bunch of standard fantasy creatures/characters and smashed them into groups.
That's the whole point. I fucking loved this game as a kid because I was into mythologies and fantasy creatures.

That and people who only played HoMM don't know that Angels are actually robots and demons are ayy lmaos

I really really liked HoMM V's campaign

What's the general consensus on 5 and 6? Is 7 even worth looking at?

1's rogues are the greatest design ever put in a game

If everything is unbalanced, nothing is. Inferno isn't bad if you get armageddon

5 is okay, don't touch the rest.

Nah, I'm playing through chronicles now, and they're blatant cashgrab.

Don't get me wrong I love generic ass fantasy shit. Something about this though just didn't click with me. I think maybe my brain isn't big enough to look past the graphics

5 is a good game with subpar graphics, setting and artstyle. The only inferior thing it has in it's gameplay is the square-based battlefield instead of hexagons. 6 is an abomination that fucks up too many things to list in a single post, I didn't try 7.

>Inferno isn't bad if you get armageddon
How is that relevant? That's not even something unique to Inferno. Dungeon and Conflux can boast the same advantage or heck, any player that recruits fire elementals, which are neutral creatures.

Master of the elements and conquest of the underworld where excellent

you can consider them a cashgrab though since they were paid campaigns with no access to the rest of the game, but that doesn't make them not good

Hell yeah

>The only inferior thing it has in it's gameplay is the square-based battlefield instead of hexagons.
How is that inferior? Heroes 1-3 did not use hexes in any meaningful way. They didn't even have diagonal movement.

Isn't there supposed to be mod to add the base and HoF campaigns to TotE? TotE is the only one to have proper widescreen support.

Dont listen to those other fags
Play 6 and 7

Its important so you can grow your unending hatred of Ubisoft

Dunno, maps are mostly tiny and straightforward, writing is like teenage fantasy book.

Yes it kinda is. If I had to rate balance between both games on a scale from 1 to 10, to keep things simple let's talk strictly about the balance between faction, I would say HOMM2 is 3/10 and HOMM3 is 8/10. You can tell that HOMM3 was made with the design philosophy of streamlining the unit designs in terms of stats and growth. The unit tiers in HOMM2 was all over the place. Let's look at some numbers. In HOMM2 the Barbarian final units is the Cyclop: 80 hp, 12-24dmg, cost 750 gold, growth 2 per week. Compare with the final Wizard unit, the Titan: 300 hp, 20-30dmg, costs 5000, growth 1 per week. These units should belong on completely different unit tier and it's exactly what HOMM3 fixed. In HOMM3 the Barbarians get the Behemoth unit which has stats comparable to the Titan and brings the game closer to balance. You may provide one argument or another why Behemoth is better or worse than Titan depending on situation, but the difference is strength will never be as absurd as what we see in HOMM2 when the Wizard final unit has 4 times more health than the final Barbarian unit.

Because only dungeon and inferno actually have a chance of getting it outside of artifacts and inferno heroes have a higher than normal chance of getting fire magic

Just because something isn't exclusive to a town doesn't mean it can't be useful to it

I can agree on the setting but I think HoMM 5 artstyle is good and way better than 4 or 6

I didn't know about that as a kid, but I found out about it later and it only made the game cooler.
Don't worry, there is nothing wrong with disliking something that other people like.

I thought the 3d town screens were good for the time

The fact it's a cheeto is irrelevant, it could have been a straw or a piece of paper. It just means someone is doing minimal effort for defense.

Looking better than 4 isn't really much of an achievement

Attached: art_halfling.jpg (600x600, 37K)

Hey guy, love your work.
One thing tho, the circles around the +1000 exp monoliths, idols of luck and other structures? Wouldn't it look better if not every one of those crossroads had a circular road?
Also, playable map release when?

They are too impractical to be considered great but I love the bright colors and comic book-like look of 5. It's very distinctive.

>fortress
>not necropolis

You can't zoom that much in game, so they don't look that bad. Rainbow unicorn would be better example.

You will never see homm4 units at even remotely that zoomed in, so how is that an argument?

They look much better in the actual game.

play conquest of the underworld, it has a few completely open maps that are really fun, as for the writing, that's pretty much the same for almost all the heroes campaigns, just standard fantasy shit

Here's my favourite homm meme.

How do you feel about HoMM5? Personally I feel it's almost as good as 3, but it looks kinda bad.

HoMM 4 looks ugly only during battles. World map is actually the prettiest in the series.

HotA fixes that.

Don't forget how bad the towns look.

3s sprites are old and blurry enough that your mind can fill in the blanks and make it look good.
5s sprites are better but enough so that you can see whats lacking in them.

I found the best way to kill shooters at the start of the game is with Dungeon. Pick a wizard, build a mana vortex and spam magic arrow to victory. You troglodyte and harpies will probably deliver the killing blows but your wizard bullshit will do most of the job.

Great game but I prefer V

And how every building in each one is in the same place in every town for some reason

121 red rush doesn't work on any reasonably large map.

Heroes 7 complete edition on steam for fiteen buckaroo banzais, is it worth it?

I actually think 6 had some good idea's with it's online features they were just executed like shit

It's also my favorite game , good fucking taste my man.

>Nuheroes
no

I don't think so, unless you never played the originals and don't give a fuck.

No. It was my first HoMM game too and even I look at it and go 'The fuck happened here?'

why does everyone ask

in these threads?

with 5.5 it turns into a game almost as good as 3 honestly

Warhammer Total War is a great spiritual successor to this franchise fight me irl

Besides being fantasy games with a turn based focus the two are hardly alike
but TWW is a fun game

Did they get fucking Balsamique to draw the people?

I think you can but the scripts for the campaigns don't work properly

I hate this. Why does this always happen to the franchises I love.

Okay, here they are in game. Unsurprisingly they still look like shit because early 3D is terrible

Is this really the hill to die on dude? The graphics really are horrible. I get that you have some autistic desire to defend it for some reason but we haven't even got to the actual serious issues 4 has.

Nice hair for a skelly.

So do I need all the Homm5 games or just the latest expansion?

Reincarnation (the almost total remake of the game released as the last expansion) is pretty decent, try it out sometime.

Why didnt he just turn it upside down?

I like the focus on leaders and building thier skills/equip. That part feels like heroes to me, the rest just feels like what theyd do with todays tech if they had it.

Heroes 5 exists.

1-3 takes place in the same setting, 4 is on the new planet, but still connected to the same setting, everything afterwards is a new generic fantasy Ubisoft setting centered around loldragons, they tried to re-imagine some of the old characters in the new setting, you can play Crag Hack and Sandro mini-campaigns in 6.
Crag The Hack also happens to be the default name of a dwarf character in M&M 1, but it's probably not the same Crag Hack, since HoMM one is a human. Although the original crew from M&M did land on the HoMM world in M&M7

Yeah the dragon bullshit is dumb. The grail being swapped for a dragon tear was particularly retarded. The direction they went with the towns is awful too, why'd they fill necropolis with spiders? I just want my spooky skeleton faction

7 is Homm3 diet, it's not bad and pretty nice. Plus new titty physics.

I think it would be more fair to use another strategy game from 2006 for comparison, first person dungeons give more leeway performance-wise.

Attached: 6030039688_06bff8f1fd_b.jpg (1024x640, 485K)

Timeless classic I would say. Almost every aspect is literally perfect. Cant say any bad word really.

It's regrettable, but probably couldn't be avoided. 3DO crashed and burned, old teams fell apart, Ubisoft needed to start fresh.

>The grail being swapped for a dragon tear was particularly retarded
A ubisoft demand, since real world religious references aren't politically correct or something

based Supcom poster

>The grail being swapped for a dragon tear was particularly retarded
Why? If anything it is more related to the lore than Holy Grail

Slight off topic but I heard MM10 was actually pretty good, is it worth a shot?

is hota fucking down again

How would you fix combat swingyness? A battle lost usually leads to incopourable lossess, which leads to loss; you either win hard or lose hard or play 10 hours against bad players

500 hours in the game and I have barely played 1/4 of all legendary heroes. I'm curious what WH3 will look like in the end.

When are they going to release Kronverk and the Inquisition faction?

It's painfully low budget, reuses homm6 assets everywhere and for some reason copies the gameplay conventions of M&M3-4 instead of vastly superior 6-8. Aka you move on a tile based map, the combat is turn based only and yet they removed the trainer-based level ups. It's worth playing if you're a M&M fan, probably, the devs obviously loved the games and snuck a bunch of references everywhere, but it's clear they couldn't do much with pathetic amounts of budget they were given. It's not a bad game, but it's very sad. Also very buggy, you may have to edit game files just to progress on the main quest. My game broke even harder when I tried that solution so I dropped it at the end of act 1 since I couldn't progress to the next zone due to the npc that's supposed to take you there being broken.

Treat a part of units killed out in the open as 'routed' and return them to the nearest town.

is that an mmo mount

Post your Town themes ranking.
Fortress > Stronghold > Necropolis = Inferno >= Dungeon > Rampart = Tower > Castle > Conflux

Bugs seem to be the norm for Ubi MM games. I think HoMM6 still had some unfixed major bugs like dynasty weapons that are supposed to boost a magic school actually weakening them instead. Also Ubi did something to Uplay that caused all the unlocked rewards to disappear (including the extra trait slot) and since it's an old game that wasn't that popular they can't be arsed to fix it.

its always been like this, 10 years ago a turn in Homm5 could take up to 20 minutes unlike homm3s litteral 12 seconds; not to mention its misspaced. HoMM5.5 seems to work faster though.

probably not

>medieval European setting
entire M&M franchise is based on an episode of Star Trek where they find a huge colony ship populated by medieval people who aren't aware they live on a space ship. The ship is headed for the nearest sun and the crew has to stop it. That's literally the plot of M&M1 with some liberties, like the main heroes being the people from the ship itself and the villain sending the ship towards the sun being a service robot that glitched and went insane

I felt like a literal retard when I realized that the main dude from the dungeon campaign is the one from the inferno campaign

I should keep my mouth shut but they're actually planning on making a sequel. Sadly it'll prolly be shit.

>Wouldn't it look better if not every one of those crossroads had a circular road?
It's just my personal preference, though I'd certainly appreciate if the circle was smaller.
>Also, playable map release when?
Not in my lifetime.

I liked that homm2 had the black dragon and the titian as the 2 eltie best units.
Balance isn't always a good thing.

I don't have much faith in it without Arkane working on it.

pirates and corsairs are different upgrade levels of sea dogs

Factory is coming sometime this year and I think there's janky mods out there for Cathedral and Kronverk

First two levels of that pistol unit are indeed called Pirates and Corsairs, sea dog is the final third upgrade. The nigra one is just a weird translation from Russian, they are called "sailors" and (literal translation) "headcutters" (which isn't a word in english), I guess it could have been translated as "skirmishers".

Attached: 022j2uQ8npI.jpg (453x604, 60K)

I still don't understand how the fuck they made Supcom in 2000 fucking 7

Just further proves that 2007-8 was the peak of civilization. The great recession fucked everything and humanity never recovered.
We live in a regressive techno apocalypse.

thug is the most proper translation

wait, correction, cutthroat would be the closest

I don't think technology is the problem. I mean, Total War games render more than supcom and with higher fidelity. It's just that supcom let you do so much with everything that's there.

It's great. Seeing this, i am going to install V again.

>don't have much faith in it without Arkane
same. That's all I know, sadly, so I can't offer an opinion on what they've done so far. I'm expecting nothing and will probably still get disappointed especially after what they did with 6 and 7

Oh, yeah, that sounds just right. Strange they didn't go for that one.

The only ones to blame are suits at Ubisoft, really. Heroes 5, 6 and 7 were all handed to different devs, neither of which had a track record to justify working on HoM&M.
Props to 5 devs for eventually arriving at Tribes of the East.

Latest expansion, using 5.5 will let you play the previous campaigns on it. Only downside are fucked up scripts for 2-3 of the missions. But you can run the utility client to play then mod with the original AI.

It feels like Ubi tried to make M&M one of their mainstream franchises and after it failed they abandoned it completely.

is it just me or is 7 literally 6 with some fixes
it even uses the exact same animations and models for some units

Attached: images.jpg (218x232, 11K)

I remember voting for stuff for 7 on their official website. They definitely had the passion but the end result was pretty bad. Got fucked by UE3 too iirc.
>Props to 5 devs for eventually arriving at Tribes of the East
I actually liked 5 prior to TotE (I'm a darkelf fag) but the different upgrades nailed it. Took good inspiration from WoG, too bad the meta was still pretty fixed for the units, even with that.
As for the rest of the games, I think the best they did was Clash of Heroes, post-V, so that's saying something. Legacy was decent too but incredibly unbalanced.

say what you will about 5, but Olivier Ledroit nailed it with the artwork.

pro-tips:
>max army
>some creature generators are skippable, for example rampart it's often best to stack upgraded cents/elves for rushdown
>(nearly) always take money over xp
>buy more heroes, especially at the start the bonus units help
>stacks of one are better for absorbing powerful attacks
>don¨t pick your main hero at the start, trade the army between heroes and use them all to clear your zone faster
>always take: offense, logistics, earth magic, diplomacy (if playing without hwrules)
>never take: eagle eye, sorcery, learning, first aid
>all other skills are somewhat contextual, but air magic, armorer, wisdom, tactics, armorer are all good contextually, water/fire magic depends on what castles are in play
>might heroes are always better at end game, but magic heroes could potentially help clear your starting zone faster (example: Luna can win fights other heroes couldn't by using fire wall)

all inferno/demon factions through the games are actually invading aliens

It's main M&M series lore.

And Conflux are divine beings from the platonic realms.

The main villain in Might and Magic 8 is a cyborg. Sci-fi and fantasy are heavily mixed in the main series, but it is far less noticeable in Heroes of Might and Magic.

Attached: escaton.jpg (640x480, 24K)

Read this additionally M&M 6 introduces demon invaders that appear out of nowhere and attack everyone. Your party of heroes has to get help of an oracle to learn how to defeat the demons. Turns out the oracle is a giant supercomputer and you have to go fetch it's memory crystals in order for it to provide you with help. The search takes you to the remains of a giant colony ship which landed on the HoMM planet long ass time ago, same type of ship used as a setting in M&M1. After getting the crystals you learn that the current human civilisation is just remains of a space-faring people that colonised loadsa planets and connected them through a network of portals. Space humies got attacked by an aggressive species of aliens called Kreegans, the portal network got wrecked and the humans on the HoMM planet got stranded alone, what happened to the rest of civilization is unknown. The demons that attacked the planet and the demons from HoMM3 are those same Kreegans, who arrived to this planet on a spaceship disguised as a meteor, once they conquer the planet they consume it's natural resources, reproduce in crazy numbers, make a bunch of new spaceships and fly off to conquer new worlds. You need to stop them, so you go get a bunch of blaster rifles and space suits and charge into remains of the Kreegan spaceship where their hive queen is located. You kill the queen and blow up the nuclear reactor in the ship, remains of the Kreegans stranded on the planet become Inferno of HoMM 3. And angels are service robots of old, the main villain of 1-5 (Sheltem) and the main non-playable hero of the previous games (Korak) are both service robots too

Attached: sheltemtcm2162319.png (633x714, 509K)

you can donwload and play it, you dip

wait what the fuck? is that a homm game? what the fuck do you even do in it? this is some mobile shit innit?

Attached: 1398287605280.gif (300x168, 1.66M)

Continuing the lore-dump, now we move onto M&M7
The game opens with a meteor falling into the sea, weird fish-people emerging from it some time later. You immediately forget about that since the first half of the game is about getting your own castle and political stuff, after you get through that you learn that the meteor was actually a space ship carrying the heroes from M&M1-3 who were supposed to chase Sheltem, but strayed off course and crashed on the HoMM planet, they got into an argument about what to do next and split into two parties - one wants to reactivate the portal network in order to reach out to the rest of space-humies and the other party wants to rebuild the ancient weapon factory which will be used to produce blasters and shit. Depending on your choice one of the parties wins and actually the weapon factory ending was supposed to be the canonical one with HoMM3 having a faction called Forge which would use a bunch of advanced weaponry. However the reaction to Forge was so bad that it was scrapped and HoMM remained fantasy with only some minor references to the crazyness of M&M setting at large.

Is this that DS game or the mobile game?

Meme mods for aestheticfags

Where do I start with this series

You mean Might & Magic or do you mean Heroes?

What are the essential mods for this.

Mods that improve the game withoutout changing the spirit of it.

iirc, m&m universe is kinda like wh40 where you have advanced worlds and worlds where there's literally medieval shit, except there's also magic. back when homm3 came out they wanted to add one of the cities that was high tech, i think it was called forge, and a lot of people sperged out that it wasn't homm anymore, so they changed it to conflux. i might be wrong though.

are you asking me? i have no idea

HOMM2 had a better, non-garbage aesthetic, but HOMM3 still has the best everything else.

HD+.

It's a mobile gacha. You open soulstones (lootboxes) which contain creatures, get monsters of various rarity (good ones being exceedingly rare) then you make a team of them and fight shit in turn based combat. The only thing that sets M&M gacha apart from the others of it's kind is that every creature has 4 variants belonging to various elements, creature abilities being different for every variant. So even if you get a super rare creature it may belong to an element that gets shit abilities.
The main idea behind the genre is that it encourages spending money in order to buy more lootboxes for the chance to get better creatures. The genre is ridiculously popular, although mostly on the weeb front, in those gachas the creatures you get a big tiddy girls.

HD Mod is really cool. HotA is ok too, but they went ham with some visuals. WOG is ok too if you are into that kind of stuff.

I meant to ask the guy you quoted, sorry.

I'm not an expert on MM games, but I'm pretty sure VI is the most recommended starting point. For Heroes, some of the other games (2 in particular) have their charm, but realistically, 3 is basically the last game you will ever need to install, it has practically infinite replayability and is mechanically by far the best game in the series.

So it's summoner's war but even shittier.

well fuck that shit then, gonna stick with the russians making expansions for homm3

And M&M8, the last one, conclusion of HoMM3 included
The planet is attacked by a robot sent by the space humies who somehow learned that the planet got invaded by Kreegans two fucking games ago. Since space humies didn't account for cool adventurers murdering the aliens their plan is to blow up the fucking planet in order to contain Kreegans, the robot being the one tasked with the mission. You have to defeat the robot, that's it. You can recruit dragons in your party, it's a pretty cool game, even though it's even more broken than the previous ones. And previous games were already fucking broken.
In HoMM3 the remains of Kreegans forge a super powerful Armageddon Blade because their leader gets a vision that it would help them destroy the world. They get stopped, an elf fuckboy called Gelu gets the blade, but then everyone gets attacked by a barbarian called Kilgore, who wields a blade of ice. Retard Gelu goes to fight him despite being warned against it, 100000 degree sword collides with -1000000 degree sword and the planet fucking explodes, Kreegan prophecy being fulfilled, remains of the world's population flee to HoMM4 planet through the portals
M&M 9 has no sci-fi elements and it's better to pretend it doesn't exist. M&M 10 throws some soft references to the previous setting out there, but says nothing concrete.

From personal experience: started the main series with Might and Magic 8, then 7, 9, Dark Messiah and finished with 6. For the Heroes spinoff I played: 3, 4/2, 5 and tried 1 somewhere in between out of curiosity. Nowadays play Heroes 3 and sometimes MM8.

HoMM IV technically follows the plot from Gaylu and Kilgor's dickwaving

I enjoyed the Tarnum saga in Homm III and IV a lot as well

I completely forgot MM10 exists, how bad is it?

That's. Cool?

It's mediocre to bad, the dev passion was there, but it's very low budget and very buggy

>Homm III
Chronicles*

Also, did you actually sit around for several months to get all the text boxes to pop up? They really screwed up the difficulty IMO.

I personally didn't like how it was implemented, but I only played mm6.
You're basically playing game as normal fantasy rpg, but near the end you're getting dumped by all the sci-fi shit and you have to basically throw your bows and swords in order to fight "demon-aliens" with blasters. It's anime-tier twist, very raunchy.

I found that especially in later levels that wasn't a great idea. I do very much like chronicles though, I played Warriors of the Wasteland through Masters of the Elements as a kid before I knew of the existence of HoMM itself.

I downloaded maps separately and ripped text from them with map/campaign editor.

>I found that especially in later levels that wasn't a great idea
? You just park Tarnum outside the enemy's last castle and keep supplying him with more troops every week.

Hey thanks guys Ill get to playing them soon
after emperor: middle kingdom

good game, terrible mp/netcode whatever it's called.

>that ancestor tribute system requiring you to manually give shit to them at regular intervals or else they get pissy
Why couldn't they automate this shit? Zeus and Poseidon is still my favorite game from these devs, Chinkperor went too hard on micro-management for my liking.

I only ever played Heroes 3, are any of the later entries any good? I've never really heard anything about them

probably my favourite card game of all time, before they killed it with the standard mode

>are any of the later entries any good?
Not really. IV has some interesting ideas but is poorly realized, V is kind of an attempt to revitalize the concepts found in 3, except much slower, uglier and less dynamic.

Bummer, I've been itching for a good tactics game like H3 lately but nothing really catches my eye

try king's bounty, it's actually decent in its own way

>ctrl+f comfy
>6 matches
fuck you gay bitches

I'd say IV is worth trying at least, I know some people really end up loving it. Otherwise you could play either the older entries or Disciples (though it's a more rudimentary game) if you haven't.

>saying a 20 year old game is comfy
everybody in this thread already knows that you dunce, what the fuck are we supposed to say that for

Yeah, you'll be sure to enjoy Heroes 4.

I mean the graphics are a big upgrade in itself. The move from 2d to 3d graphics really give the game the depth it lacked before, and the more colorful graphic pallette leaves old heroes games looking muddy and pale in comparison.

Then there's the gameplay. Your hero now actually has a turn like the monsters in the field. This adds some nice depth to the spellcasting system because your hero can only cast spells on his own turn. And the grand strategy aspect is improved upon as well, with things like getting to make actual choices with what units your town produces.

Now there are some downsides to heroes 4 like the horrible soundtrack (just listen to the sea theme lmao), but really, who cares about the soundtrack?

>The move from 2d to 3d graphics
... but homm4 is 2d

4 is good if very different from the rest
5 is alright, its pretty much 3 in a 3d engine (so way worse but still good, especially with expansions)
6 is legit quite trash, the whole thing just feels low effort and unfinished
7 is basically 6 with some things fixed up, havent played it much yet desu

there is not a single thing in this post that i would attribute above the ramblings of a drooling madman.

>who cares about the soundtrack?
what the fuck am I reading. HoMM has had amazing music and 4 shit all over it

I have V + expansions but never played it much. Should I bother with the campaigns of just play random map games?

>heroes thread
>want to complain about Heroes 5.5 last update being over two years ago
>check the website just to be sure
>see this

OH SHIT IT'S HAPPENING

Sea theme is great despite being not original.

It honestly failed to hold my attention.

>7 is basically 6 with some things fixed up, havent played it much yet desu
Seven lacks content like 6 but at least the game play is better.

a few years back I thought I finally found an niche obscure game I can get good at and play with a few dozen neckbeards at the most in online lobbies
now it's in the thousand # of players and zoomers coming in from twitch plebs and even a tranny who stream it for the kids that get autistically good at it in an insane amount of time or the mediocre retards that ruin lobbies by playing like retards

this was a super closed community and it should've stayed that way, russians in giant numbers really ruin everything

Nice copypasta faggot.

Heroes has never been a niche, obscure game.
