Why are they political? It doesn't make sense. Now, don't get me wrong, I don't hold any opinion on either side one way or another. I am not American, and I live in the country deep innawoods, so politics doesn't really have any affect on me one way or another.

I just don't understand why. Think about it for a second; you're an immortal being who feeds on humans, effectively making you top of the food chain. Of course there are werewolves and wizards in the World of Darkness world, but for the most part, you're at the top. The only ones you really have to contend with are other clans or the politics in your own clan. So why would you care in the slightest about the latest modern politics of humans. Beings you would generally consider to be nothing more than food or pleasure. Toys. Sure, maybe if you've just been turned you'd be different, but for the most part, this kind of mindset would disappear pretty damn quickly.
You're the elite of the elite, or at the very least, servants of those elites. Illuminati are similar in a way, they don't care about politics other than manipulating it to suit your own needs from the shadows.
Writing your immortal monsters to care about modern identity politics and themes seems to bizarre to me.

I could accept it if they wrote similar themes and subtly compared them to the modern world, like writing in an oppressive vampire overlord who hates all other courts; you could even call his troops the "red hats" and make references to actual old time fae lore about the real life red hat fae.

It's just never made sense to me.

If we were to compare books, I would say the Harry Dresden books are a perfect example of vampires when they talk about them. In the most recent books, there is a court of vampires called The White Court, who are very in with politics, but not for some kind of social bullshit, but to manipulate it to suit their needs.

Psychologically though, when you eat one thing for long enough, you slowly stop to consider what eating that thing means. It's why the military always says the enemies aren't human and are monsters, because it makes it easier to have the soldiers are vicious as possible.
