Did Boone ever have a reason for killing his wife?

Fallout 4 fixes a fundamental issue present in both Fallout 3 and Fallout: New Vegas: The gameplay.
The gameplay in FO3 and NV is so horrifically bad that despite almost everything else being worse in FO4, it's a fundamentally better and far more enjoyable game solely because of it's gameplay.

If the FO4 conversion of NV ever sees the day of light it'll be one of the best games ever made.

He didn't want his pregnant wife to become a slave, so he mercy killed her because he was in no condition to take out all the guards at cottonwood cove at a slave deal.

It's funny because Boone is so OP in game that he could probably take on the whole legion single-handed.

I really doubt the legion would sell an ex-NCR sniper his wife back. Boone clearly carried himself like military, which the smarter legionnaires would sniff him out easy. He might not even be able to make it to cottonwood without an NCR Ranger stopping him. He had a shitty call to make, let his wife be a slave and suffer for the rest of her life. Or kill her and end her suffering.

He planted evidence in Crawford's safe, so the courier wouldn't feel bad about him murdering the woman who disliked his wife openly.
