go for it c:
No, start with DMC1, DMC3, and DMC4
DMC2 and DmC are skippable, DMC2 takes place after DMC5 so it doesn't matter for the story, and DmC is just shit.
If you care about anything but story then yes.
>if you care about everything else but the story then yes.
I need to sleep geez.
You know what really triggers me? Every fuckkng game there is no 631.
When you’re new to gaming you always ask yourself
> hmm can I play this without playing the other 630 predesscord first?
And then the answer is no you have to play part 1, released in the 1960s on a toaster with 1 fpm sorry bro
If you just want the best gameplay, yes. Going back to 3 and 4 might be difficult, or you might like them more.
DMC1 is a different game.
Yeah, but play DMC 1, 3 and 4
They are great.
2 is shit, no matter what anyone tells you, avoid it.
Play these first:

honestly only 3 is necessary if you're really impatient
it's worth playing 1 and 4 though eventually. 4 still holds up because even though the game is a bit shit in some ways that dmc5 isnt, the gameplay style is different. dmc1 has pretty meh gameplay compared to the rest of the series but the aesthetic and design is so wildly different from the other worthwhile games so it's able to stand on its own
2, 3 have just been improved on and serve no purpose for revisiting after you've played the later games, and 2 is just a bad game anyways.
so start with 3, then do whatever you want after that. 3 is still the 2nd best game in the series imo, but it just sucks to go back to from a gameplay perspective after 4 and 5 and doesn't have 1's standalone feel
I want to appreciate the idea you're putting forth here
but unfortunately I just think you're retarded
It's a decent starting point, but I'd highly recommend getting the HD Collection + 4SE bundle, and to just start playing through the games. DMC5 is absolutely stellar, but the game rewards you if you're a fan, as there's a lot of good nods towards the other titles (plus the story being the 5th entry will leave you a little lost).
In short, play DMC1 and DMC3 on the HD Collection, then DMC4SE, and finally DMC5. Only play DMC2 if you're VERY, VERY CURIOUS.
Real men play DMC2 and DmC
The devs changed the timeline. DMC2 takes place before 5 now.
Shirtless.
You can maybe get away with playing only 3 but you should really play 1, 3, and 4 before playing this.
1 is basically its own standalone thing as the above posted mentioned.
3 is when people really looked at this series and went "oh shit this game's kinda crazy" and it tells you tons of the story things you'll need to understand this game
4 introduces one of this game's 3 main characters (the other two are Dante and a unique character to this game) and you should understand his story before going into this though it's not STRICTLY needed, and it also has gameplay that expanded on 3 and was perfected by 5
No, start with DMC1, 3, and 4, also DMC5.
The timeline goes 3, 1, 2, 4, 5 now. 2 never came after 5, ever.
>is the fifth game in a series a good starting point
I wish people would stop asking this fucking question. Unless it's a series like Final Fantasy where the each game is stand-alone, the answer is always start from 1.
i think its pretty clear the story is irrelevant in these games
I meeeeeeeaaaaaaan if you want to be a bitch about it
the gameplay is its clear selling point but the characters make the series, and you need the story to understand them, even if the actual story isn't fantastic
1 is clunky and outdated, but worth playing.
2 is bad, but can be worth looking at if you want
3 is fantastic
4 is great, but my biggest gripe is that Dante is only playable for like 7 missions.
DmC is unironically kino. Especially now that the DMC franchise is confirmed to be continuing in the normal timeline, looking at DmC as just a one off alternative dimension waves most criticism.
dude pizza lmao. literally the sonic franchise writing.
Then, real men are retarded.
>mission 11 boss on DMD with half health
>trying to use Royal Guard to properly defend against him, as well as parrying every now and then
>look up a video of someone SSSing him to learn parry timings
>he just uses Cerberus' Revolver to auto-parry every single attack
>all challenge is immediately removed from the fight, barely ever getting
>also barely have any fun
I ruined it for myself.
DMD really isn't any fun, SoS was much more enjoyable.
DmC is only kino if you either weren't around for the controversy or play through it exclusively as El Donte.
>take the most visible and highly posted meme characteristic of one character
>surely that must be it
mhm ok user remember what i said about bein a bitch about it?
You know, I actually feel like 5 is an okay jumping on point. Nothing really ties into the previous games except that characters from prior entries are in this one. Everything else you can easily pick up on I feel.
I heard the first game is trash in the HD Collection. True?
I started with this game and was able to play through on the Devil Hunter difficulty and enjoy the shit out of it. But I watched a streamer play DMC3 beforehand and I was really glad I did because it gave me some context for the conflict present in 5. You can easily follow the story in 5 without knowing anything from previous games but some of the impact and subtlety will be lost on you.
I got 80% of the DMC1 trophies on PS4 and it's fine IMO. It's an early PS2 game, the graphics are crusty either way and gameplay-wise there's nothing wrong.
you type like a homo. i've only played 5 and i do not feel lost without le demon pizza story.
>DmC2 but with DMC4 moves
why did Yea Forums lap this up?
You should play DMC3 whatever you do. It's the best in the series and the story is animekino
Whenever I see this gif I can't help but think of the old "did you know if your hand is bigger than your face you have cancer" gag
Then I imagine Dante hitting him with it just as he goes to fix his hair, pushing his hand and everything, and I crack up every time
Yesterday I cleared DMD. But the jackpot ending scene never appeared. I was brought to the main menu and lost the last 9 mission ranks, so I have to do everything from mission11 again
Shit game
You done?
No, DMC1 is a great game. It just suffers from static camera angles and a couple bad bosses, but they're not nearly bad enough to affect the game that much.
Wait, when did they change 2 to be before 4?
3 is worth it alone for the cutscenes. There's nothing in the rest of the series that compares to the cutscenes of Dante riding the motorbike or the first scene when Arkham enters the shop.
before 5 came out
>fixed camera
>bad
I would actually argue a moving camera fucks with DMC's controls since if the camera flips you might not get the action you wanted. I can't count how many times I've tried to roll and the camera shifted right before hand giving me a jump.
No, anyone who says so is a fucking idiot.
You're going to be fucking overwhelmed with all the characters, both in gameplay and the story. The story is entirely contingent on previous games, and I don't see how you could enjoy it without having played at least 3 and 4. You should play 1 too, but it's not as important to the narrative.
I'd start with 3, since it's the most representative of the series and as far as narrative is concerned is the first game chronologically. If you enjoy that, you can move on to 4 then 5. You can play 1 anywhere, and I'd highly recommend that you do, but it is pretty dated, and is fairly divorced from the other games in several respects.
I think you're a fucking retard. Devil May Cry 3 unironically has one of the best stories in video games, and I will fight any nigger that claims otherwise.
You need to play 1 first because going back to 1's controls and combat after 3 would be a struggle.
You can just pick 5 and play it because it tells you the whole story in the History of DMC menu.
Otherwise you can play 3 and 4.
That's all you need really. 1 and 2 have not aged well, and DmC is irrelevant.
