Not sure if you're a fan, Paper Mario died after SPM.

>Remembering that one Nintendo Power article shilling this game as Mario and Luigi hating each other the entire game
>Game ends up being about them working perfectly with no arguments despite their contrasting personalities

Link?

And it's never coming back.

Paper mario had so much potential it was insane.

youtu.be/iTYnay4WYTI

I forgot I had this thread up, but if Nintendo Power has an archive, look it up and check around the months before and after this game was made

murdered, and you're welcome, cunt

Thanks Miyamoto, I never liked that series either.

I have absolutely zero faith in modern IS, and I'm worried about M&L.

worried about m&l but i don't think it's dead yet. alphadream can still pick up the pace again.

paper mario is doomed forever though

soul
soulless

paper jam had no reason to exist, was full of shitty, unnecessary gimmicks, and was only enjoyed by infantile neckbeards and legbeards who cream themselves over the idea of Mario games having "le deep lore".

You're trusting Nintendo with either of those series after the shit they've pulled with their most recent titles (and the crossover game)?

What if Nintendo made a new 2D classic mario style game using Paper Mario artstyle instead of generic 3D Mario?

Mario and Luigi is most likely happening first, i just hope faggots like Arlo don't treat it as a personal attack and try to undermine it because it's not paper mario

>deep lore

No not really

People liked Paper Jam because the gameplay was actually fucking good and still M&L

>and was only hated by infantile neckbeards and legbeards who wanted a Deviantart tier fanfiction crossover story

Your right, it doesn't need to exist.
That doesn't mean it wasn't a great game.

You fags like to bitch about wanting Paper Mario for it's originality and great story but fail to ignore Mario and Luigi's consistent character development

>but fail to ignore

>no luigi socks
>colors made brighter and oversaturated to match with the regular market brand Mario
Soul doesnt exi--

We’ve gone 4 fucking games using the DT engine and get DT is still the best looking 3DS game

The aesthetics and dreamy atmosphere was literally built for it and it doesn’t help that SSS, and BiS’s world is actually shit in comparison

based
youtube.com/watch?v=gVQTGxOA7dQ

Stop being an autist and play the fucking game

Bowser’s Inside story still has Luigi’s socks

Paper Mario will come back but as the contrarian fuckers that faggots are, they will bitch and complain about it not being exactly like TTYD despite having an original world with original characters and a good battle system

Hello lads, I just woke up from a 7 years long coma. The last game I played was SPM and while I found the game to be pretty mediocre, I at least respect the attempt to inject some fresh blood into the formula. Last I heard before going into my coma, IS decided to go for a return to form with the 3DS game and I'm pretty existed to play it!

I'm glad you're existed user.

I hope M&L Switch uses Xrds art style. It's the one game I feel would greatly benefit.

>they fixed the difficulty of SSS to be harder

>BiS became easier

excuse me

I'd love to see a Paper Mario on the Switch but I know I won't get one.

SPM gets too much hate. Even though I liked the older PMs, I didn't mind the change in the combat system. In fact, I'd call it my favorite PM.

Don't forget to mention that the BiS remake has longer loading times and runs at 30fps with fucking drops during some fights.

The fact that the remakes don’t get 3D terrain attacks is also a downside to the art style

>paper mario will come back
not while tanabe is in charge, he already said he doesn't want to go back to either classic or sticker style

Super Paper Mario would be miles better if someone altered the bosses to have more health and deal more damage and if they wanted to go the extra mile give them some more attacks. They're a joke as is right now and it's a shame. Another thing that would be neat is giving the pixls more of a purpose in battle past really basic stuff, maybe even have some sort of way to change pixls on the fly so you don't have to pause a fight to switch to another. I really like the game but I think if it had all the things I listed it could stand up to 64 and TTYD.

This. Such rich content.

Paper Mario had an actually appealing art style. Mario & Luigi looks so generic.

Dream Team had a pretty high production value in general, I also think it's soundtrack is easily the best

>they will bitch and complain about it not being exactly like TTYD
That's exactly what it should be. They had the perfect formula. They could've done so much with that formula....

>more rehash pls daddy nintendo
disgusting

I subscribed to NP and you're full of shit

This. SPM > TTYD. Both are good though.

Speak for yourself. As long as combats serve an actual purpose again I'm all ears.
I love SPM, but let's not get carried away here.

The gimmicks weren't nearly as annoying as the ones in Dream Team or Bowser's Inside Story. The story wasn't as fun, unfortunately.

If you could "rehash" sex with the love of your life, would you pass just because you've done it before?

I'm not sure if I'd rather see Tanabe fuck with Paper Mario again out of morbid curiosity or just let the series die at this point. I don't have any hope with him in charge but at the same time, if we got ANOTHER game that wasn't what anybody wanted instead of just letting the series die off I think it'd be the straw that breaks the camel's back and the outrage would be huge enough for Nintendo to respond in some way. At this point I'd like to at least hear why they fucking refuse to give us what we want and instead chain down the series' potential with gimmicks, a focus on the paper artstyle rather than the world/story, and inferior gameplay. I'm so fucking sick and tired of getting burned by Nintendo but at the same time I'd feel worse if the series died altogether and people just stopped caring at all.

>wanting more "experimental" bullshit
sometimes you have to return to your roots

Yeah, nah. Super Paper Mario is the type of game that's good enough to be beaten but not good enough to replay. TTYD can be replayed many times over.

Mario 64, Ocarina of Time and Metroid Prime were very good considering they were so different from what was before them.

>The gimmicks weren't nearly as annoying as the ones in Dream Team or Bowser's Inside Story.
I can understand where you're coming from but for me PJ is worse than both of those games with the toad hunts which are without a doubt just shameless padding, and the papercraft battles which were vastly inferior to giant battles with how slow paced they were.

I disagree, games need innovation. Not every single game has to reinvent the wheel, but eventually the formulas get stale.

>Make the same kind of game twice
>WE'RE GETTING STALE!!! WE NEED TO
>SHAKE
>THINGS
>UP
>NO MORE GAMES LIKE THIS

>Make the same kind of game twenty years straight
>This is fine

Nintendo in 2016 was very uncomfortable after the color splash reveal

They are well aware of people’s feelings towards the current direction

>Nintendo in 2016 was very uncomfortable after the color splash reveal
Not him and I'm not trying to call you out but how so? I don't recall anything like that.

Yeah, I can agree on that. I was just happy I didn't have to deal with touch screen controls again. I did enjoy the giant battles in BIS though. The ones in Dream Team were less enjoyable for me (towards the end anyway).

I kinda agree.
SPM I've replayed like 3 times, it's just smoother.
I've also played PM64 3 times though. TTYD I've never got the urge to play again, god just the glitz pitz alone turns me off, let alone stuff like the backtracking. I also just didn't like the locales much

They were banking on the casual audience all the way. They weren't deaf to the criticisms of fans of early Paper Mario games, they just didn't care.

That last giant battle with Mario riding on a star to Bowser was hell. I don't even remember what you had to do but I remember having to redo it 20 times or something like that. Think you had to use the gyro to line yourself up or something. Gyro gimmicks were fucking hell.

> the glitz pitz alone turns me off, let alone stuff like the backtracking. I also just didn't like the locales much
Interesting. I found the Glitz Pit to be one of the best chapters in the game. There isn't a single game that has better locales to me than TTYD, also. Backtracking through them is delightful in and of itself.

Treehouse in particular kept having to use buzzwords during E3 like “Characters” and “settings” as well as the fact that Tanabe himself basically stated that they went straight to the sequel without knowing about Sticker Star’s negative reception which is extremely bullshit

It’s obvious he pulled that excuse out of his ass, they know that they can’t continue in this way and honestly with the whole Koizumi pill, it’s possible to get a real paper Mario back

One can hope.

Ha, yeah, that shit got pretty frustrating.

I think the controls for giant battles in BiS were better while the actual giant bosses in DT were more dynamic which was pretty neat.

>I think the controls for giant battles in BiS were better
Not him but I would agree if the mic wouldn't mess up for people on the Fawful Express boss. That's one thing the remake greatly improved on, fixing that fight, by changing how Giant Bowser's fire works now.

Wrong pic

Attached: Tanabe.png (394x538, 277K)

Guess it makes sense that I didn't recall any of that, the second I saw the first trailer for Color Splash I immediately lost any interest so I wouldn't really remember them talking about it at E3.

What are the chances the switch game is a Partners in Time remake

youtube.com/watch?v=tcWFVPqOXIQ

Was it Kino?

I like the running joke of Bowser not knowing who the hell Luigi is.

They also made the emblems on their hats colored
But it's not in artwork anymore

youtube.com/watch?v=R95aIojwRws&list=PLhHcMbVmbwCdYgDcW5-Ai5lXAqPAWihPc&index=81
TTYD was kino

Agreed, the mic controls were pretty awful. I just think the gyro controls were pretty annoying to use.

I love the running gag of always having a Wiggler boss in M&L

BiS remake fixed the fire breathing

And if they decide to use Gyro again, at least the switch has a much better one
Though after Paper Jam it was obviously taken a backseat

Also thank fuck both the SSS and BiS remakes took ques to shorten the tutorials like Paper Jam did

you boys forgot one
youtube.com/watch?v=w5AZRtpTLhM

They were all kino.

youtube.com/watch?v=C6jARBDGvf0

I also mostly agree with that.

The gyro problem was literally Zee Bird and Bowser

Fuck that faggot

youtube.com/watch?v=o6I-n7xK03A

Stop charging 60 bucks for handheld quality games

youtube.com/watch?v=3OIyTf297I8

that would be underwhelming as fuck

they did it with 2d zelda though so I guess it's possible

He just made a suggestion, it's not his fault they applied it in the most rigid way possible.

It's all really dumb because Miyamato's criticisms had a point. The series really did have too much dialogue, most notably in SPM where the writing was bloated as hell and could have easily been cut down by half. That doesn't mean you should cut out story and partners as a entirely, though. How retarded do you have to be to take that conclusion?

I think he wanted the team to stick to Mario characters since Super Paper Mario was really “out there” and lacking in character designs. He NEVER said to turn everyone into toads. I don’t think Miyamoto even likes toads.

I think Nintendo and their partners are very "extreme," for better or worse for how they approach most things in general. Like how Skyward Sword was too linear for some people, then Breath of the Wild is the opposite extreme for better or worse. Or how games like Pokemon and NSMB are considered too safe while something like Fire Emblem is divisive as hell due to all the new and different decisions.

That too. The new species and designs in SPM were terrible and lazy (e.g., the pixels) so I agree that sticking to variations of existing Mario species like bob-ombs works a lot better. It's like Miyamato correctly gave out criticism of SPM, but the devs interpreted it in the most retarded way possible and crashed and and burned the franchise.

That’s bullshit too because Tanabe
>HURR I ALWAYS WANTED TO KEEP EXP

Miyamoto apparently wanted the rpg system in tact he literally just asked for something new

The one thing Miyamoto has the right idea about was the fact that PM made Bowser a fucking moron

M&L gave Bowser a much better treatment

Don't fucking post this man
You're gonna make me cry

I'm honestly considering writing up a post about Miyamoto (relative) innocence about most common Modern Paper Mario flaws because people really seem to overexaggerate what he did.

Do it!

Paper Jam my dick in it 2 will probably be the only damn way to get a "normal" Paper Mario game.

Paper Mario is beyond fucked, just let it lie already. M&L still has potential but it keeps getting phoned in over the last few years. Paper Jam was rushed as fuck and it shows, the remakes were completely unnecessary and the one game that really could have benefited from it was the one they passed over because it's the least popular game.

I'm pretty sure I remember talk of this
