Looked up "beloved PC games" on Wikipedia but was smart enough to not just copy-paste exact lists/10

I played a lot of isometric CRPGs in my day, but most of them only hold up as books not as games. Fallout and Planescape in particular would almost be better as text adventures/adventure games than RPGs.

I'd say very few styles of games have ever become "obsolete," but those kind of games definitely are. Contemporary replacements like the more strategic Expeditions series are what games like Fallout 1 & 2 should be.
