Now that the dust has long since settled can we finally admit that it wasn't that good and it completely fucked the series?
Now that the dust has long since settled can we finally admit that it wasn't that good and it completely fucked the...
It's a good Castlevania game, just not a good Metroid game
The series was dead at the time, it revived it, it was THAT good, and the only flaw it has is being too short/easy.
>series was dead at the time
>previous 2 games were the best in the series
hmmmm?
I picked it up on vita looking for some fun metroidvania and ended up with a dogshit wannabe super metroid for goths.
nah it's a masterpiece
I picked it up for the vita and realized I was playing one of the best games of all time.
the main problem is that they failed to keep the quality going and to know where to go towards. They later games were not as interesting, the focus on 3d also killed it.
Yes and no. It paved the way for Aria, Circle and Portrait to come out after. The series being fucked is just Konami being Konami, as always.
So a metroid wannabe is the best in its series? lmao no.
screw you visigoths!!!!
>The series was dead at the time
fucking how?
have we finally all agreed that Castlevania 3 was peak Castlevania?
Play luck mode nerd
It's sad to see that a particular game turning a series' formula into another series' is considered the best of it.
The previous ones being good or not wasn't the issue. They didn't sell very well, and when SotN came out, we'd been three years without a Castlevania, and it's not like people were clamoring for a new one.
SotN took everybody by surprise because nobody expected anything from that IP anymore, at the time
>not rondo
>previous 2 games were the best in the series
Those are 1 and 3 though.
There's a reason why these games are called metroidvanias and not just metroid clones. Nobody gave a fuck about metroid-style games at the time. Super Metroid was a cult game, but it didn't sell very well
This. The genre doesn't sell well. The ones on the ds sold like 140k copies each.
why do people like rondo so much? genuinely pretty lame unless playing as maria where it becomes fast paced and actually fun
Air of mystic because it didn't come out here.
by far, nigga
It sure as shit isnt notMetroid in OP.
So much this. If the game had been released normally outside of Japan like IV, it wouldn't be overrated like it has been
So just like RE4?
>Yea Forums hates SotN now
This thread proves that I am too fucking old to be here
>people have shit taste in gaming
Wow what a new concept. People have had shit taste in gaming since the beginning. Sportsball shit has been highest selling since gaming began. Give these normalfag casuals shit like sportsball, racing and whatever the most marketed casual game of the time is and that is what the masses will buy with very little exception. FFVII for its time was the most marketed game ever when it released at least money put into the marketing and look how well that worked out for Square. This is why you see them put so much money and time into marketing even above game development. When it pays off it pays off really big for these creators.
Simon's Quest was the downfall of the whole franchise as a whole. Prove me wrong.
It's not that good of a game. Even for a metroid-styled game it's really not that good. And it royally fucked the series over by getting rid of the actually good gameplay in favor of more of this garbage.
How can it be a downfall if the game right after it is the best in the series?
Nah, OG Castlevania or GTFO, newfag
Because it always was an overrated shitty franchise. One good game was enough.
I both agree and disagree. I believe that while Symphony of the Night was a great game that is very overrated , its sequels perfected the formulae in order to create top tier titles like AoS/DoS and Portrait of Ruin which while not being classicvanias, are excellent games still.
On the other hand, Castlevania pre-Iga titles had incredibly satisfying gameplay and ridiculous attention to details that few were able to reproduce since all of which were sacrificed for the Metroid format. Good titles like Rondo of Blood and Castlevania 3 still exist however, you can still go and play them.
I would put money on you still being in your dad's nutsack when the nes was around.
>can we finally admit that it wasn't that good
No, fuck off and kill yourself
>Good titles like Rondo of Blood and Castlevania 3 still exist however, you can still go and play them
Fuck you. Why should i bend over and eat decade-old shit while everyone else gets fed their daily kibble?
It's shitty even by metroidvania standards mate, later entries turn it basically obsolete. It's a very, very unfocused, haphazardly put-together game with a lot of serious, shockingly overlooked flaws. Best games in the series are C3 closely followed by AoS btw
I probably lucked out and finished it very fast few years ago. Maybe and most likely missed a lot of things.
>AoS
worst castlemania
The game was surprisingly easy
It's not a problem of taste.
I'm an oldfag, I liked original Castlevanias, and I can tell you that no one expected anything from that franchise, anymore. Rondo/Dracula X were seen as well-made games in a very tired formula, and I certainly wasn't expecting konami to even try to make a castlevania for the 5th generation.
Changing the formula to some success is what kept the IP alive
Because it's the gameplay you're looking for ?
Old games don't stop being good as new titles come out. There's plenty of Classicvanias to play and they're all enjoyable by design since they are so satisfying to simply pick up and play like Mario and Megaman titles. Why are you so angry ?
E P I C
How so ?
can i get a quick rundown on this meme?
played it recently and it was the best game i played in a long while
i actually finished it in one session
the inverted castle and all
The creaking skull is the most important character in the story. At first he's a ally then in the end it's revealed that he was evil the whole time. It's a very deep and moving moment considering how heavily his role in the game was. Most people meme about now as a way to forget how hurt they were when they first saw his reveal.
it's a good castlevania
No offense but i'm not fond of OG castlevania. Maybe i just never got to see it fully realized but damn, the games suck. The controls suck, the enemies suck, the design sucks. It all feels like the beta for something larger
S P O O K Y T I M E
>shitty even by metroidvania standards
It is literally the game that invented metroidvanias......
autism
That looks fun
No it WAS that good, but yes it did fuck the series, thing is the series probably wouldn't have even kept living for as long as it did without it
Music is good but other than that there are better nes games
forced meme posted by one person like the boomer meme was before it blew up
While I wouldn't say it's the worst, I really don't get all the hype about AOS. It's a nice little SOTN-lite with some new features like the soul system, but it really doesn't hold up as well as SOTN. A lot like Zero Mission and Fusion compared to SM.
The bottom line is Castlevania died because no one bought the GBA/DS games for Konami to care about the series enough to not commit seppuku with Lord of Shadows
Aside from being too easy it was one of the best games ever made.
It's good but it's easily the worst good Castlevania.
Should have made it clear I was mainly talking about how Metroid was a cult hit rather than the massive hit it deserved to be. Same with SOTN or most games Yea Forums might tend to glorify actually. The taste of most people is exactly what I said. I like this franchise and I am glad they found a way to keep it going. Time made plenty of people look back at retro games a lot more fondly and willing to forgive anyways. Those old Castlevania games are often loved now where as back then as you said, perhaps more unappreciated since it was done a lot already.
Lol no, SR is literal garbage. AoS decent at worst. I HATE how hype culture literally controls everything that has to do with ratings.
Now that I think about it, Castlevania and 2D Metroid were both killed the same studio, and there are rumors that they're working a Fusion remake.. My God.. What is Nintendo even thinking?
