Why can't they just make another final Fantasy like this?
Why can't they just make another final Fantasy like this?
Because nuMura ruined Square Enix.
because it sold like shit
Because of zoomers + "lol FF will neva go back 2 turn-based!! :^)" Square-Jewix.
That's irrelevant.
They made plenty of shit Final Fantasies after that one user, I'm not sure what you mean.
If it doesn't generate tons of cash then the product's not good and it's not worth learning anything from either pham, or at least that's how this industry works nowadays.
FF7 and FF6 get far more general praise as Kino works of art that will never be rivaled. 9 is just the best Comfy FF game, so people like to talk about it in that regard.
The only contrarian like is FF8, which was loathed and then people started to love it because others hated it, and is now hated again because so many contrarians started to love it.
>Most overrated piece of FF shit ever created
Umm, sweetie? I think you're confusing the Roman Numerals yet again. 9 is not 7, after all.
and you're confusing numbers. 6 is the most overrated FF game.
That's how this industry works nowadays, you are not wrong but it's unfortunate.
>6
>more overrated than 7
Google says you're wrong.
Nice joke though pham.
Why do enemies just keep attacking me? Is there no turns? How do I get them to stop attacking me while in a fight
Why was 8 so bad? Did it just try too hard?
horrible story, even by final fantasy's low standards. Gameplay is fucked up by a half baked junction system
Because FFIX goes against the challenger spirit of the series.
Final Fantasy is about constantly trying something new in an attempt to outdo the previous entries. If you want traditional RPGs play Dragon Quest or Bravely Default.
Dragon Quest XI specifically is fantastic. Go play that.
But rehashing old formulas is not what Final Fantasy stands for.
>Final Fantasy is about constantly trying something new
this wasn't the case for the majority of FF1-10, at most one of the base system is different (materia, junction, etc.) but overall they are very similar
>"THAT'S NOT WHAT THE PLAYERS WANT!!!"
Square Enix' Opinion
They're all turn based-esque RPGs but they're constantly trying new ideas gameplay-wise within that mold. IX is the most glaring example of a clear retreat from experimentation.
no they arn't, only the background systems are different. FF1-9 all have the same base gameplay/combat, X changes the exploration but the combat is the same.
>Sakaguchi left
>Squaresoft became Squeenix
>Squeenix has serious management issues
>Squeenix wants FF to be a huge AAA series
These are the reasons why.
sakaguchi is a hack if lost odyssey and last story are anything to go by. He was just the ideas guy
What you describe as background systems are the primary defining mechanics of each entry in the series.
Even back at FFII they were throwing away safe and pre-defined formulas in favor of experimentation experimentation, and the ATB system introduced in IV is one of the most radical changes ever introduced into the history of turn based RPGs.
God why is Final Fantasy so cringe, Do you weebs unironically like this shit? The fuck is the plot even about since there's like 18 games.
>TB system introduced in IV is one of the most radical changes ever introduced into the history of turn based RPGs.
all it does it make things take longer
FFIX is fucking garbage and no one but contrarian man-children want that. Give us FFVIII style games
Just my opinion but I don't like semi futuristic shit. But they still do it. Probably makes much money. 9 was sort of throw back to the old things. i liked it.
The idea behind the system is supposed to be that enemies are no longer waiting for you to choose your command on your turn, which deconstructs the entire idea of turn-based combat.
Of course there are people who miss the point and play it on wait mode like cowards, in which case, yes, it just makes everything take longer.
>9 was derivative and uninspired, it was a safe choice that recycled music and ideas!
>Why can't all games be more like this??
kys
>calls it cringe
>has never played it
u gay
I play on active with the fastest mode, it makes enemies faster but party members slower which is much worse. There are like 1 or 2 options per character, final fantasy doens't take brain power. Most of the game I'm just waiting for that damn bar to fill up so shit can happen
Designs and incoherent plot alone is cringe why would I play crappy pretend fantasy?
If you look at the numbers the highest selling entries in the series are the ones that emphasize higher levels of technology: VII, XIII, XV, VIII all sold exceptionally well despite three of those being very polarizing titles.
Meanwhile IX and XII which are the titles from the same relative time period that have the most clearly identifiable fantasy settings didn't sell anywhere near as well in comparison.
X and VI also sold incredibly well and better than most of the games in that higher tier, but they have unique settings that can't really be categorized into A or B.
Underage b&
Before 13, and aside from 2, there were no bad final fantasy game.
Some were better than others (5, 6, 7) some weren't that great or flawed (4, 8, and 10) but none were bad'
XIII and XV only sold well because they were multiplat, not a fair assessment (13 also had hype behind it before the series went to shit, XV had the 10 year wait). X sold really well (highest selling in japan IIRC) and has less technology comparatively
Imagine being such a waste of life you're still posting on Yea Forums in your late 40's. Nobody cares about your dwindling dogshit japfantasy. Also I'm 23 btw :^)
12 is shit, 2 is actually great, and 6 is broken but still a pretty fun game (no penalty for skills, zero balance)
Please guys. There's no turns?i can't sit and think?i have to input commands ASAP? Why do enemies just keep attacking me? Is there no turns? How do I get them to stop attacking me while in a fight
Sell technology ? X was released in 2001 m8, it was probably the most mind-blowing game I played at launch ever.
2 was completely broken.
And 12 isn't shit, it has great gameplay, great story and setting. Weird to say, but it actually lacked cutscenes.
Explain how 2 is broken. I'll be waiting. Unless you'd rather admit you never played it
The leveling system was completely retarded, but I never played the newer editions of the game.
Not liking a mechanic =/= broken.
>2 is actually great
SaGa contrarian detected
I don't think its fair to contribute the entirety of XIII and XV's sales to multiplat support. Those games had obscene amounts of hype behind them and would have sold well regardless.
He means technology from a setting perspective. Like robots and shit. And X had a really weird blend of science fiction and fantasy, but neither were the traditional sorts of science fiction or fantasy that we usually see.
12 isn't shit. It just has the awful license board system and horrendous story pacing.
M8 it was completely broken and you couldn't complete the game without cheating or attacking yourself, what the hell are you talking about. Maybe they changed it in more recent editions, but back when I played it like 20 years ago, it was completely broken and hated for a reason.
The curse of Fabula Nova Crystallis.
Yes I know. I just prefer more traditional fantasy rpg shit.Hell I bought ff13 and still haven't finished it. My fucking ps3 is probably gonna die sooner
I'm so fucking glad we're done with this garbage, holy shit. Hilariously a low budget PSP game (type-0) was the best thing about it and it was still mediocre
