8 was just too easy from start to end. I liked the world and setting though. Characters were meh. Music was probably Uematsu's best work. Triple Triad is easily the best minigame in the series. I want a Selphie gf.

It really doesn't. IX's gameplay is obscenely slow due to technical limitations and the lack of the heavy customization prevalent in VII, VIII and Tactics makes each replay dull in comparison.

The characters are more "likeable" than many of the characters in VIII, but that's not an actual testament to their quality and no one in that game shows the level of character depth or development that Squall shows in VIII. VIII gets a lot of shit for having "irrelevant characters", but IX is just as bad in that regard with characters like Freya whose irrelevancy is turned into her defining character trait, Amarant who never does anything of importance, and Quina who is literally inserted into your party whenever the game feels you need an extra body.

The story is bland for the first half and almost insulting in the second half. Everything involving Terra feels like it was inserted because they knew that people expected a VI/VII style 9th inning mindfuck and didn't have anything, so they just threw a bunch of shit together at the last second. That's not even mentioning everything concerning the primary theme of "accepting mortality" which just comes off as preachy and naiive. Vivi telling Kuja to stop complaining that he's dying is the equivalent of like, a company that does commercial whaling making a cartoon whale their mascot to tell everyone else to stop being so mad about the whale hunting. It doesn't work that way.

And the setting is just your opinion.

I got to the part where I'm supposed to be looking for the captain/commander and I can't find them. I guess this is where my playthrough ends. Welp, it was an okay game.
