If you like platforming all the mario games are great on there. The best of all is Warioland 4 though that game is a masterpiece.
Advance wars 1 and 2 are both great turn based strategy games, as well as the fire emblem games. If you want a good RPG try golden sun, or the Pokemon games

Get a regular GBA with a backlight mod or get a GBA Micro. The SP is uncomfortable as fuck with your thumbs way too close together, too many hard angles/corners, and teeny tiny shoulder buttons that are ironically too easy to press accidentally all the time.

and the TMNT game based on the 2003 TV show.
A lot of people would sooner recommend the game based on the 2007 CG movie, and that one is pretty good as a River City Ransom style game, but the one based on the show is a pretty overlooked action game with really good variety and awesome sprite work. Nice mix of beat em up, platforming, and vehicle sections.
I don't even like this iteration of TMNT, I think the show is bad, but this game is great.

Just your friendly reminded that /vr/ is retarded as a system made in the year 1999 with full 3D graphics is retro, as is a brand new game made this year that plays on NES. But a nearly eighteen year old handheld system with specs that put it in leage with the SNES and is filled with ports is not retro.
