So how come Dutch wasn't able to be reasoned with or listen to Arthur?
I get it, Arthur kept disagreeing with Dutch and going against his plans while Micah was manipulating/telling Dutch what he wanted to hear to seem like he was on his side and how Arthur was the real bad guy. Don't you think if Arthur would have said something along the lines of "C'mon Dutch, I've known you for twenty years, trust me when I say that Micah is bad news" and fully explained it to him, Dutch would come to his senses and listened to Arthur? Had Hosea been alive at this point and is with Arthur to "expose" Micah then would Dutch listen to reason?
It did seem like Dutch kind of wanted to believe Arthur but he wasn't sure what to think and that's why he walked away in the end. What do you think Arthur should have done/said in order for Dutch to believe him?
I believe Dutch started to become unreasonable after he hit his head during the trainstation robbery in Saint Dennis.

he went crazy, without hosea he was nothing

>Ingame reason. Micah was playing to his insecurities to the point that he had Dutch wrapped around his gay little fingers. >Real reason. Writing staff slipped up too many times and needed a reason for Dutch to go over the edge because he was a bad guy in RDR1.
That theory is bullshit he was always a fraud but after blackwater he started going crazy out of desperation and fear. They don't even acknowledge the head injury again after that mission

Arthur wasn’t exactly very supportive after guarma, I mean he actively is planning on robbing dutch during the last act
Dylan Sullivan
This is what I head thought initially as well
Blake Sanchez
He's an idiot end of story

To be perfectly frank, I feel like a lot of Dutch's character motivations and behaviors don't make any sense. Yeah yeah I get that he's being corrupted by greed, or the pressure is exposing the person he really is, or whatever. But it's often not really coherent. It's really a weak point in an otherwise well done story
Especially the fucking epilogue ending, when he just hauls off and shoots Micah. What the fuck. So they've been planning more heists, they have the money, everything's peachy- and then John Marston not only convinces Dutch that Micah is bad, he convinces him to shoot Micah and abandon everything? In 30 seconds of half-assed barely even arguing? What?

Theres nothing Arthur could have done, Dutch was always the leader, Always the one saying what goes and what doesn't, Hosea was probably his best friend for however long, so if Hosea pitched an idea, he'd at least let him take control and also keep Dutch shit side played down, but when they started getting desperate due to the ever encroaching civilisation Dutch knew the walls were gonna close in and became psychopathic, Blackwater was the start, after Hosea dies, Dutch finally began to fully lose it
Ayden Garcia
I figured by the time Marston reached the cabin, Dutch was already secretly sick of Micha's shit but was probably so worn down by the loss of his gang that he didn't pull the trigger until he saw a familiar face.

Before Dutch showed himself up on the mountain, Micah mentions that all manner of folk had been making social calls which likely means Dutch had only met up with him recently since the gang fell apart. Arthur's death and the events surrounding it fucked with Dutch hard and he had probably gone up to the mountain to get on Micah's good side so that he could kill him himself before John showed up and gave him a clear opportunity.
Jason Stewart
This, I figured that Micah is a cunt and Dutch had like 6 years to think about the fact he had made the wrong choice, when John came he had a chance to make it right. I legitimately believe that it didn't take him long to realise he made the wrong choice on the mountain.

Yeah, if 1st game didn't exist rdr2 might have had better story.
Jace Cox
I guess this makes sense. It just seems unearned in the actual game. Like I'm finally here for the showdown, oh shit Dutch is here, oh shit he's with Micah, oh shit he just shot Micah. The way it was presented, I *personally* felt it didn't have weight
>"What are you doing here, Dutch!?" >"same as you, I suppose." Dutch was going to murder Micah's ass regardless of John, you just gave him the perfect chance.
