Now all's Todd has to do is an easy layup at E3 with Starfield and this whole upstart thing from Obsidian is done. This is why I love Todd, he cant be beaten

Obsidian weren't aware of the decision. They were updating Steam achievements hours before the announcement, and in their twitter post phrased it as "Epic announced" and not "we". They're pissed too.

the engine is their greatest asset though. it's shitty and they refuse to put anything above minimal effort into it, but it's easily moddable, and the modding is why beth games are popular at all. if it weren't for its moddability, skyrim would be forgotten very quickly.

you could also download fallout4 from the launcher, then delete the launcher. so it's not as big of a blow as epic unless they decide to do an always online release (which would be retarded).
