It seems we need a thread about a real mans game.
Binding of isaac thread
What version of Isaac is your favorite?
>Get great items and steamroll the game in a boring fashion
>Get useless items and slog through the game in a boring but slow fashion
>Get average items and go through the game in a boring but kinda neat fashion
fuck nicalis for how they butchered AB+ on launch, I'll never forgive them for it
SOULLESS
How so?
Source on rightmost chart?
AB+ was broken on launch where the final boss had no animations and you had to leave the room to get the door to the void to spawn. Also twin sisters was broken at launch where you could get oneshotted in seconds due to the game thinking you got hit multiple times.
The joke is that it's a flow chart. I don't think it has anything to do with the game, just that the way you grab items and clear rooms has a clinical mathematical objectively correct way to do it almost all of the time.
Nuclear Throne is the better game but has faggot devs
I like em zany. I love stupid item combinations.
Criticisms from someone who's played the game too damn long
>Too many situational and useless items in treasure rooms
>Little to no reason to go to Dark Room outside unlocks
>You basically can't lose after Basement 2 if you're a good player (not extremely skilled or godlike, just good) because of the abundance of tinted rocks and power level of certain, relatively common items
>Curse of the Maze only exists to annoy you when backtracking
>Ultra Greed is too stale a fight to warrant having boss armor
>Greed mode is well developed, but it's severely underutilized and underplayed because it's not the main game
>The Void and Delirium are just rehashes of the rest of the game; the former is too easy and the latter is straight up unfair
>Keeper has no redeeming qualities, from lack of statistical advantages to being barred out of devil rooms to having to play really slowly and abusing shops and sacrifice rooms
>Red hearts are useless outside spending them on blood banks and devil deals because of the polaroid and how earning devil rooms works
The best runs in Isaac are those with below average but not unbearably awful items that force you to make meaningful decisions and reward knowledge of the game while still offering the unique items and their synergies that make Isaac what it is. The feeling of beating a run where taking advantage of synergies between items was the reason you succeeded (Bob's Brain + Sad Bombs, BFF's Cube of Meat, tear delay reduction + Lump of Coal, etc.) is simply amazing and is what keeps players like me coming back.
Getting to an overpowered state is a moot point with the bullshit "boss armor" mechanic.
As much as I love a good Ludi/Brimstone combo that murders standard enemies, it doesn't matter when it comes to fighting some of the bigger bosses where you'd want a ton of damage.
It's sad that a free fanmade mod completely cucks the paid dlc.
It's an amazing game for the first few playthroughs. Then it's just a boring grind fest.
Hush is retarded and boring, annoying and lazy.
Delyrium too, what an horrible FINAL FINAL FINAL FINAL boss.
I always fantasy about the absolute REAL final boss being one angel and one demon like creature representing Mom and Dad fighting each other. You have to shoot the devil one and protect the angel one (they change roles randomly) and they throw to each other common objects in a Mcmillen humouresque way (plates, chairs, cushions for example, simulating a parents fight). Pic related.
Why is Rebirth’s soundtrack so soulless?
Repentance when
Havent played since i 100%ed it, some achievements were so much bullshit, and i just cant find any new fun synergy.
Because it's based on Metal, the most soulless and garbage genre of music out there
>spotted the nigger
>Monolith is better than either
>Devs are /agdg/ chads
How can any other roguelite compete?
Dont you have some viking convention you need to go to?
Antibirth the best OST
>Antibirth OST
>better than Danny
Cringe
t. Assmad metalhead
You know why it's garbage? I can play you a track from any floor that Danny made, and chances are you cant tell the difference. It's the same soulless crap that barely fits in any theme. AT MAX I'll give credit to the Cathedral but even then that's just for atmosphere.
Antibirth's music is actually memorable and distinguishable for what it's trying to represent.
I love Binding of Issac when I get good items
Otherwise I fucking hate it
Ayeverybodywelcomeback
Best is getting two 50% discounts for stores.
For me it's Mr. Me! and stealing items from the store
vanilla for music
But if you get two 50% off coupons all items are free, and with refresh stores you essentially get unlimited items and especially breakfast.
Pot play
How is this on the switch
I normally played with mods to fix some of the fuckery like removing items that are useless.
Why do people hate Rebirth's music? I think it's really good.
>tfw modded in a mix of Classic and Antibirth music in my AB+ install
Best of all worlds.
Useless items are there to balance the game. If every item was good, you'd be getting way too many overpowered runs.
You people listen to the bgm? I thought everyone played roguelites with their own background audio past the first three hours of play.
Isaac really needs an item value system to prevent runs where your first eight items are like
>lemon mishap
>mom's pad
>toilet plunger
>guppy's paw
>air strike
>boomerang
>red candle
>coat hanger
b/c that shit makes you want to hurl the game in the trash and play literally any other shmup instead
I mean shit like keeper being given health items.
like actually broken items.
I'd rather a terrible item than the dev saying 'fuck you, I'm not programming logically just buy my game'
Edmund wanted a completely different ambient musical style for Rebirth, which was bound to piss off nearly everybody who was used to Danny’s original style.
