Fuck you and your shitty advice, I looked all over the internet for solutions and everybody said this.
The problem is the game uses the 1st USB controller in your USB controllers list if you have more than 1 controller plugged in or use a virtual controller, it always tries to hook onto that instead of the one you're using. You just have to unplug/uninstall all of them until the one you want is the first one on the list.
His running grab is the only thing I've had trouble with and I just beat the bull. Grab attacks really are the fucking worst.

This. They always say "Git Gud" but it's just the game forcing you to play it's way. There's no creativity if the game punishes you for seemingly creative answers that would make sense if attacks didn't snap into place or tracked in an unrealistic fashion.
This is what I call an out of genre enemy.
Its a Dark Souls enemy. Mega-Poise, slow and spams attacks that can only be avoided through dodging. However much like Dark Souls 3 had enemies that were blatantly just Bloodborne enemies thrown into the game it feels strange because dodging doesn't have the same I-frames it did Dark Souls so it just becomes an annoying enemy that feels different than every other enemy because it was in fact from a different game.

Figure out his moveset and wait until he does an attack you think is safe to punish. Don't try to dodge his grabs, just put yourself in a position where he has no chance of grabbing you ever. Also he's weak to fire, it stuns him for a bit.

I just went back to playing today after getting bumfucked by that ogre and the drunkard and I went back to the ogre and killed him first try, I also killed the other mini boss after the ogre first try too. Now I'm trying to get through the serpent.
The key to defeating the ogre is to clear the area, lose the aggro, stealth fuck his first hp bar then run in circles around him and hit him twice after he misses his attacks. It's pretty easy once you get it down.
I played DS1 with kbm and it was the best experience ever.

You have to have DS4windows launched in exclusive mode as well. Close steam, close Nvidia shadowplay, and then launch DS4windows. It will say at the bottom if you're in exclusive mode or not.
To kill shadowplay's process you have to end the service "NVDisplay.ContainerLocalSystem"

The original appeal of Demon's Souls and Dark Souls was that their combat was slower and more deliberate. But it seems like they were only slow because From/Miyazaki weren't confident they could craft fast-paced melee combat. Bloodborne and DaS3 sped things up significantly and Sekiro is following that trend.

The Ogre is pretty easy if you keep your distance and just look for openings in his attacks, same with Shinobi Hunter
I was actually grabbed one time in my first attempt against this guy. Don't blame the game blame your reflexes.
His dive grab is the only thing that really has tracking and its the only move he has which is actually dangerous. if you are physically at all you will get hit by it. His hitbox is the entire front of his body and not just the area within his arms where the grab would logically occur.
Which is where most of the issues are coming from. People are yelling that they are getting grabbed despite dodging. However because this is FROM his entire front half turns into his hitbox so if he glances you with the side of his arm while doing it the animation skips to him grabbing you as if it actually landed making people think he is doing sick turns in the air and tracking you like crazy.
The grab itself has some tracking but the thing people are bitching about is actually just a hitbox being stupidly huge and the animation jumping to fit it.

Most enemies die in one solid hit. If you pay attention most strikes aren't actually hitting the enemy. Also git gud. The game tells you exactly how to beat that ogre

It's not a souls game for one. The atmosphere is completely different. The menu pauses the game. The help prompts are always on. The attack don't have any weight on them.

Menu pausing, talking prevents actions, cutscenes are more frequent than just boss intros, tutorial prompts everywhere, NPCs are marked as friendly from far away, auto-walk and no weapons in hub, it tells you if you aggrod an enemy. They definitely got some tips from Activision.
most of them seem fine, besides the ogre's charging grab but i always tried to side step it when you are supposed to jump.
You need to attack towards the start of an encounter to get the enemy's HP down so their posture doesn't immediately regenerate

i think my main issue is that i can't get away from an enemy. even trash mobs seem to go nuclear and unleash a vortex of attacks. they'll catch you if you try to jump away, they'll catch you if you try to dodge away. the only option you have is to face them head on and eat shit if you don't know their pattern.

Arbitrary rules are stupid. Wanting playing to fight a certain way and as a result giving enemies crazy tracking or attack snapping is just stifling. If you don't want players to fight a certain way don't give them those options. But to give them those options and then for certain enemies just totally break them intentionally to prevent players from fighting that way is retarded.
If you give players tools don't arbitrarily and cheaply render them useless.

Ps4 pro is 1800p checkerboard which is essentially half the resolution (at least on one axis) but reconstructed to 1800p. Xbox one x is native 1800p so it will look much crisper in practice. Both have terrible performance ranging around 40 fps on average. The base consoles have locked 30 fps performance but with massive frame pacing issues.
Just play it on PC.

I think the problem people have is that step dodging to the right only works sometimes for certain moves that thrusts. Everything else just tracks you like a magnet.

The CPU in the xbox one x isn't as bad as people make it out to be. Its heavily customized to the point where a task which would have taken like 10,000 CPU cycles will take only 3 cycles and other similar modifications. That's why there are many games where it has very solid performance even when at a higher resolution than the ps4 pro (RDR2, Hitman etc). I'd assume from software didn't invest much time in getting the best out of each system or else performance wouldn't be this garbage. Just look at the base consoles the game is borderline unplayable because of horrible framepacing issues which makes the game all stuttery and jerky.

Real talk. Step dodging is virtually useless because of how hard everything tracks. Parrying is the ideal option and FROM just threw in sweeps and grabs to make it less monotonous. Unless an enemy specifically requires you to dodge because of grabs then the step dodge is pretty much only used for making space.

One water dash and they run away, dash+attack is a stab that has always missed for me. Every time I've killed one it's been just lucky hits while spamming attack from behind them.

Yeah, just like other games. in DS dodging is the ideal for most bosses, in Bloodborne its the same, but you have a proto crit-bar with the parries, which were far more used than in DS (where very few enemies were parriable).
So, in Sekiro, you're suppose to parry most attacks, and only dodge when parrying isn't an option.

If just dodging doesn't always save you from damage, and just parrying doesn't get you out of the way of attacks that can't be parried, what if you tried to do both in sequence? Chaining together your movement and damage avoidance options plus being mindful of your positioning in order to give yourself the advantage.
That way you'll find yourself more often in a good position to attack rather than stay on the defensive taking damage, because if you only defend you'll lose the battle of attrition.
Maybe you're supposed to use all of the tools given to you to defeat the enemies you encounter.

This is the primary reason why people are dying to him. You unlocks the Dodge tutorial right before this fight and it teaches you to dodge unblockable attacks from big enemies. So people go in dodging left and right only got get perfect tracking grab attack in their face.
The game also doesn't tell you your jump has i-frame and it's better than dodge as an escape tool most of the time. It's straight up misdirection.

Pressing dodge isn't a "okay I'm literally an immortal God for half a second" button. Positioning is important. Pressing parry isn't a "okay literally nobody can hurt me for one attack" button, timing is important.
What YOU are doing is demanding every enemy be easy and not have any attacks or mechanics that make you think on your toes. What YOU are doing is thinking "wow that tracking is bullshit I DODGED" as if pressing the dodge button without being mindful of your positioning and the enemy you're fighting should protect your from all attacks like some kind of everything-proof shield.
Those enemies don't break the games arbitrarily defined rules, they're there to force you to have to come out of your autistic comfort zone and gain a better understanding of the game's mechanics for once in your life you complacent fool.
From's command grab hotboxes can be pretty wonky, and some attack tracking can be unusual, but you're intended to learn to manage enemies like that. If you die a few times trying to learn, that's okay. Death isn't a failure in games like this, it's an intended part of the gameplay cycle. It's how you learn.
If you come across an enemy that gets a leg up on you, and your first thought it's "wow that was some cheap bullshit, that's dumb, I should have won" rather than something like "Oh man that's new, I gotta figure out how I'm meant to deal with that", you're just a scrub. Git fucking good.

The game is hard, but it doesn't need to be as hard as it is. So far it's just tedious, and when I finally kill a boss/miniboss it's not really satisfying cause it feels like luck. The issue I have is that I don't really get a chance learn the movesets since I die in 1-2 hits. On top of that the bosses take an insane amount of hits, which makes a single mistake even more punishing. Even with the revive mechanic I feel like I'm fucked as soon as I need to heal since the bosses have so much fucking health.
The game's fun outside of the bosses, which is a shame cause that's usually my favorite part of Fromsoft games

Try working down his health. The lower the health an enemy has, the slower they recover poise. And you can get a deathblow off health instead of breaking their stance.

Yeah, also when you die you lose half of the current progress to the next skill point, so keep in mind that if you're about to gain one it might be better to back off and rest.

The only way really is to memorize the animations/patterns as you would in a Megaman boss or whatever. The "unblockables" have quite a big windup.
My issues with the game haven't been much to do with summoning, though I do enjoy the cooperative and occasionally the pvp in souls games it's usually locked offline until I beat it once.
Sekiro does have some issues, the revive system is kind of poorly enabled. So I don't want to rot the place up, play safe, any time you do take a hit that will kill you, it's pretty much run straight back to the bonfire for a free rest (which is piss easy, mobs cant chase you generally), which means you get to clear whatever the fuck you were doing up to that point again. That's fine, it just seems kind of redundant. I would much rather die to the encounter and permanently lose progress and get the rot afflicted than have an 'out', especially one that directly influences the game playing out. This implements two extra layers of tedium.
Combat is fine, it does feel very much like souls with a slap of paint, I would like for the tools to take more precedence but most of my encounters usually just boil to me sneak attacking something then wailing away on whatever aggrod during that sequence since weaker mobs absolutely get thrashed by retard spam.
On the subject of the sneaking mechanics, it feels pretty archaic generally. Some mobs have ludicrous sight lines, some are MGS guards and I can be almost in front of them and they don't notice shit. The aggro system makes no sense (I throw a shuriken at a dude surrounded by 3 others, he ora oras and runs at me... by himself, even though it looks like he's going EY BOYS LETS GET HIM). I do like that there is more emphasis put on stealth but it's definitely rough around the edges.
I'm still enjoying it, I would have appreciated it leaning further in the direction of a ninja game than a pseudo-souls game, it just fucks with my brain.
