The dumb thing about Polybius is that the company was named "Sinneslöschen", i.e. sensory deprivation in non-idiomatic German, when obviously if they were trying to secretly experiment with citizens they wouldn't make such an open reference.

I think the best ending to this would just be him accidentally getting a game over before even reaching the final Shadow of Red fight. And then, when he boots up the console, something's changed to let him know, Red has won. Maybe Godzilla is red, maybe the fucked up levels are bullshit difficult and near-unbeatable now to prevent him from even getting to where he was before, maybe both.
This then culminating in him deciding, yeah, Red won, fuck this and discarding/destroying the cartridge. Keep the mystery alive, but make it clear that Red won, somehow.

That KanyeQuest video does it a bit too, with you becoming some sort of spectral dove, but the Lavender town stuff and anything where you lose your body and have to go on as some strange japanese sprite of a ghost is just great.
Yeah, the one where Red dies in Lavender Town and you play as an increasingly decaying spirit traveling to his final resting place is just mystical. The combination of eerie glitchy Gameboy tech, and the idea of being in the afterlife leading up to final death is incredible.

The only way I could see this kind of spirit coming back (at least in relation to vidya-based spooks) is if you did like a Let's Play of a haunted ROM or something. But to be done well you'd need to be (or know) a proficient ROM hacker and be able to play the LP straight for the first few episodes or so. The problem with so many stories is that the authors lay most or all on the table right away and already give away that something is unusual. Starting it as if an organic LP on YouTube would eliminate so much of that hurdle.

ignoring the shit tier ending, this one is pretty good. The sprites really don't match the game but the description of the levels creates a cool atmosphere and you could tell they actually gave a crap about Godzilla

I do like 3108 since it feels a little like a classic entry, but something about Gamers against Weed really ruins stories for me. Maybe it's the idea of super-powered teenage Redditors running around making anomalous memes that does it for me. It's impossible for me to take it seriously in any capacity, but I also haven't found myself amused by it either, so it just comes off as awkward and unfitting.

I swear, every fucking long vidya creepypasta should end earlier than it does. They all start out amazing as well as (within reason) believable. Then without fail the author cranks up the bullshit and the story falls apart.

The only creepypasta that I still consider to be somewhat good is Psychosis, but that's mostly because the writing is pretty fucking good. The story did an amazing job at convincing me that it was the story of a person slowly succumbing to madness and believing that he was the sole survivor on the planet. This slow descent was fucking amazing. Then came then ending and much like the sleep experiment fucking ruined everything by basically saying "DUDE I WAS RIGHT ALL ALONG". I don't know why these creepypasta writers have such a hard time coming up with good endings.
