The game barely changed though unless you were nosferatu or malk. That's the entire reason the clan quest mod was so popular.
The biggest change was your discipline selection and for most clans it only really had significance in combat (the worst part of the game) and it wasn't authentic anyway since you should be able to learn almost any discipline you want.
If playing as a thin-blood or a caitiff or whatever enables them to write a stronger, more focused backstory as well as let you learn what disciplines you want (like in the pnp) then I'll take that over 9 separate clans, which seems resource-heavy to make distinct.
