Many people dont know that you can cut the square sides of those cables down and they'll work thw same

I bought this console just to play JSRF. My sister let me borrow her XBOX for a weekend, I popped JSRF in, and was totally hooked. I was 12 and hadn't played videogames for 2 years since my PS1 and GBC got stolen, but this bought me back and I'll totally be grateful for it. Copies of this dualpack were all over gamestop for $3 and I used to buy up a few just to give out to friends because I love this game so much.

The Xbox has the weakest line-up of the generation, but its balanced out by its exclusives being really interesting and hard to emulate outside the original. Just dug mine out on monday and have been replaying JSRF.

It's the best action game I've played. The only game to come close is bayonetta once you learn dodge offset.

What's picture quality like on a modern TV / best way to get a HDMI signal?

There are a couple of options for HDMI on OG Xbox and they're simple plug and play, also affordable, but this is the one case I'd recommend sticking with component output if you can. It tends to have superior color to the HDMI options available. Video quality is great. There are a good number of games that run in 720p and a great deal run in 480p. This coupled with the powerful hardware for the time give the Xbox the best aged console visuals of its generation.

I need to clip the clock capacitor on mine before it leaks and screws the console. Have it hooked up to my PVM right now.

Not many come to mind. Most of the best games are either multiplats you could just emulate the PS2/Game Cube version or already has a PC version.

The only games that come to mind are Panzer Dragoon Orta, Jet Set Radio Future, Dungeons and Dragons: Heroes, and the Mech Assault games. Everything else was either a multiplat or already has a PC release like Halo 1/2.

that feature was based but the ambient noise on the track creator always creeped me out. On the other hand it was one of the games with Custom Soundtracks so I loved it.

I legit got that controller today as well, I tried playing DMC5 with it today and it's pretty good.

My only complaint is that the face buttons are really clicky in that cheap feeling sort of way, but it's only bad if you pay attention to it. Otherwise it seems as good as the original. The tacked on shoulder buttons aren't bad either and they're actually in a perfect spot comfort wise, it's maybe the first controller I've used where I don't have to strain my hands to have four fingers on all shoulder buttons at once.

Also if you use it on windows 7 you need to manually install the drivers for it apparently.

Unless you live in a third world country that never had a 6th console gen, literally walk into any pawn shop and you will trip all over OG xboxes for like 20$, controller and hookups included. Only other thing you need to do is buy the splinter cell game with the cfw exploit which is like 2$ on ebay and usb adapters for the system which will probably be like 15$ at most off ebay.

You'll probably want to take it apart too, to clean it, tear off the leaky capacitor if its an old model, and to replace the HDD if you want more storage. Other than that google is full of modding guides for the system.

I almost wish microsoft would make an Xbox mini just so I could hack the crap out of it and play emulators on it all day like I used to back in high school. It's still a really great emulation device, but the thing is damn huge and good controllers for it are becoming harder and harder to find.

Hyperkin made an officially licensed HDMI cable for the original Xbox recently. I hear it's pretty good. Don't bother overpaying for the original component cables.

It's pretty hard to describe. You basically play as a zombie, infect other people in cause total chaos. Check out a gameplay on YT to see what I mean. It's really fun, I wish I could get it running on modern PC.
