Why do people think Aeris was some kind of purity Sue? Even Square Enix falls into this trap.
The original game clearly set out to subvert RPG cliches by making the chesty brawler a romantic who wanted to be saved by her hero and the white mage girl the street smart trickster who used her looks as a manipulation tool. Even her offering to "date" Cloud was just her messing with his head like a big sister flashing her little brother, rather than legitimate sexual interest.
FFVII was most people's first RPG. They didn't know any of the cliches that were being subverted in the first place. No excuse for Square Enix. They're just incompetent.
Jackson Perry
Square is all too happy to recast the characters. Advent Children left Cloud the emo kid forever.
Jeremiah Phillips
Yeah the only person who worked on FFVII that's still around at Square is Tetsuya Nomura and once he got full control over projects he went crazy. FFVII has a ton of subtlety that just got forgotten in favor of the superficial interpretations of the characters. Cloud wasn't emo at all. I think people just conflate him with Squall.
Gavin Garcia
this, cloud was always alpha as fuck >Next to you, who wouldn't?
Cameron Turner
>like a big sister flashing her little brother Do sisters usually do this?
Leo Jackson
That's not really alpha, that's being a dork. It just happened to be a good line because Tifa is also a bit of a dork.
That's what made Cloud such a great character in the first place. He wasn't cool. He was pretending to be cool for most of the game but his actual personality was that of an insecure goober. People who played RPGs through the 8 and 16 bit eras would have been floored by the reveal that the tough elite warrior was actually just one of the random mooks you'd been beating the tar out of the whole game.
FFVII is brilliant in a lot of ways and not respected for any of them.
Kevin Butler
It's not an RPG cliché lol. It's a real world effect that is naturally reflected in RPG's...
In other words, humans judge on appearance and even in the presence of conflicting information will STILL see one girl as more innocent or less slutty than another based on pure aesthetic feedback.
It's simply too powerful of a psychological effect. Same way big muscle dude is the hero and small wiry thin guy is villain. We are just dumb animals ultimately
Bentley Cruz
I second this question
Xavier Davis
My sister did it all the time. I used to pretend I was embarassed and hated it so she wouldn't catch on that I was old enough to beat my dick like it owed me money afterward.
Aaron Lopez
I think the RPG cliche is the white mage character the hero meets is traditionally the pure love interest. In FFVII she is neither.
Hudson Lewis
haha you wouldn't have any other uh, funny stories like that would you user haha
Life isn't an anime so it didnt go far beyond that. But I got really good at engineering the situation to match other times she flashed me which made it happen fairly often. If i talked about how gross girls are and how I never wanted a girlfriend at the right time she'd "punish" me by popping her tits out and jiggling around a bit.
Expectation bias and projecting whatever they prefer.
Thing is that another big RPG cliche is the nice childhood friend love interest, which Tifa fits to a T.
Brody Hernandez
But that's subverted too. It's a major plot point that Tifa is mistaken and they weren't childhood friends at all.
Landon Evans
Weren't they usually the same thing back then? If there was a love interest childhood friend she was usually a white mage of sorts.
Logan Scott
That's not what was subverted. Cloud and Tifa were childhood friends. Cloud just told a bullshit story about his return to Nibelheim that Tifa didn't call him out on and only subtly tried to bring up on the gondola ride if you get her for the date.
Ian Harris
Why would two people who are not friends have a big sad farewell talk together at midnight before one leaves?
Cooper Jones
They weren't as close as Cloud things, but they still fulfill the 'childhood friends' quota in the long run.
Oh they are often the same thing, but if the white mage and the childhood friend are separate then which will be the love interest depends on other factors. In this case, which is the more 'nice and reserved', since those types always have an edge.
Jace Richardson
(That's the Nibelheim incident. They were five years older by that point and it's a totally different event you're talking about. It has nothing to do with the topic of their childhood friendship.) Yes it was. Tifa thinks they were close, even though she never wanted him in the group, because she deluded herself of it in the intervening years by reading the newspaper daily, while the well is the first time they talked together. The fact that the memory is Cloud's alone and contradicts Tifa's proves that his memories are real and not just plucked from Tifa's brain by Jenova.
Jack Jones
Man, I'm glad at least someone gets it. FF7 was its own thing, very unlike all the stereotypes people have gotten hung up on. There's so much character development that people don't give credit to. How often does a main character get reduced to a wheel chair bound retard and have everyone else deal with that reality as the plot gets urgent? To this day it stands out to me how far they went to flesh out the full breadth of interactions between all the characters.
At least people stopped comparing it directly to FF8.
Angel Cruz
Cloud is a dork lacking social skills that suddenly from out of the blue told her to meet him, because he liked her and wanted to make a big deal about leaving. She says she was surprised.
Hunter Cruz
only in hentai comics and f-list erps
Julian Sanders
>main character get reduced to a wheel chair bound retard That section was something else.
>They were five years older by that point I wasn't thinking. I should've said two years.
>but they still fulfill the 'childhood friends' quota in the long run. They do milk it for what it's worth, but isn't the point of a subversion to lead the audience to believe one thing first and then pull the rug from under them by establishing the opposite? Just because the reveal is far into the game, doesn't mean it's invalid.
Luke Jenkins
Also she sold "flowers" and it is heavily implied that means sex so she's a hooker too.
Ryder Robinson
>and not just plucked from Tifa's brain by Jenova. This part confused me. Do Jenova cells give people the power to "copy" memories from other people? Like actually read their minds and steal their memories? Or do they make you bullshit your way into it after carefully extracting info from other persons, like street magicians? I think Sephiroth states the former but he also said Cloud was a clone which was a lie.
Aaron Stewart
wasn't aerith a prostitute? i read something about her selling flowers being a sign of it?
Christopher Lewis
>Falling for this dumb meme Play Crisis Core.
Cooper Cooper
This scene is exactly why the remake will fail. The game isn't equipped for the uber realism they keep going for and will suffer a serious tone shift as a result.
Charles Johnson
what the fuck is an erp?
Samuel Howard
>falling for the Crisis Core meme
Tyler Allen
what happened in crisis core? if its a dumb meme im happier knowing its a dumb meme.
Jeremiah Myers
The selling flowers was exactly what it says it is. She literally sells flowers. What made it successful was that she was a shark. You get a glimpse of her sales tactics during the Honeybee Inn scene where she tricked one of the random perverts into buying one for 1000 gil. Selling her body would have been counterproductive to this model.
Colton Kelly
Zack gives Aerith the idea of selling flowers, both to make money and fill the slums with something other than poverty and garbage. It's only reasonable that she keeps doing it because she never really got over Zack, specially considering he's the reason she wears the pink dress and bought her the ribbon she wears.
Brody Ward
>what happened in crisis core? Nothing. Literally nothing happened in Crisis Core.
Leo Reyes
Officially Jenova is scanning Tifa's brain at the train station when she finds him incoherent. Jenova then stitches Cloud together. If Cloud had met another person he would've become an amalgamation of his real self and some stranger. This also explains why the beginning Cloud is intent on acting so cool. Tifa thought he would've been some cool hero somewhere.
I have never liked this official event by the way. I think it's a gross distortion on their relationship.
Ryder Peterson
In the 90s you got a lot more japanese female characters who were a lot more bold, and less of the traditional "pure" docile dolly with no personality at all. Unfortunately with the rise of autistic waifufag betas and otaku not just being fans but the people making things over there now, the generic pure girl who doesn't do, say or think anything got more and more popular, and Aeris has been retconned. You're 100% right though. If you play FFVII thinking she's going to act like she does in any of the spinoff media, it's completely different.
People talk about Cloud's character being completely changed over time, and it has. But most of the other characters have too - and all for the worse. All these changes feel a lot more apparent when you watch 90s anime and compare it to late-00s anime, when a lot of these retcons started happening.
He's got a point. Crisis Core's Aerith and FFVII's Aerith are like two completely different people. The games are really weird if you line them up side by side.
Xavier Wood
Oh my fucking god, why is this picture so funny
Tyler Edwards
Did they retcon it or was that always in the story?
Robert Russell
>Even her offering to "date" Cloud was just her messing with his head like a big sister flashing her little brother, rather than legitimate sexual interest.
It's a little bit of both, actually. Aeris saw an opportunity to get what she needed (protection and escort) in addition to what she wanted at that moment (Cloud, and at that particular moment, his "Zackness.")
She's a bloody smart girl. An opportunist, to be sure, but a good-natured one that looks out for her own interests while trying to ensure the best case scenario.
She wouldn't have been a prostitute. She had value to Shinra. No way would the Turks have let any rando John touch the goods.
Brody Stewart
Everything other than the original game might as well be fan fiction.
Blake Reyes
It resonates with the gritty world of VII and there is a lot of circumstantial evidence. However sidestepping this. I'm really curious: Do you actually think the "I'm afraid of the sky!" CC Aerith is compatible with VII Aerith? Keep in mind we see the even younger feisty Aerith with Elmyra when she was a kid in VII.
Hudson Diaz
really? that's nice to know.
Jason Anderson
Why are FF7 fans such autists about this shit? A 90's game and faggots still try argue about something so mundane and pointless.
I really hope Square fucks over the remake to piss these fags off
Lucas Young
You're 100% right. The irony of waifufags ruining what makes a waifu good just because of their purity fantasies. Fucking gooks, man.
Levi Gutierrez
>I think Sephiroth states the former but he also said Cloud was a clone which was a lie. I get the sense that a lot of the more confusing bits like this where characters are outright bullshitting are vestigial remnants of earlier revisions that were too deeply ingrained into the story to elegantly remove completely. It's like how Aeris and Sephiroth were supposed to be brother and sister originally which makes Sephiroth's whole "I'm an Ancient and deserve the planet" thing make more sense instead of the guy just plain being wrong about everything.
Julian Sanchez
>I'm so angry people care about something >I hope it gets ruined for them
Nolan Cox
You are literally the only person who is angry here Calm down you sperg
John Perez
Ignorance is bliss
Matthew Sanchez
>circumstantial evidence Can you westerners please stop pretending "flower girl" means prostitute in Japan? That was never a thing in Japan, and hasn't been a thing in Asia as a whole since the feudal times.
Jason Green
>canon bad, headcanon good keep it to your fanfic
Dominic Lee
Ultimania, which I think was released before AC? Anyway it does fit the plot in the sense that when Cloud is shown having memories distinct from Tifa it is accepted proof to both of them (and to the plot) that Cloud is a real human.
In VII (and Before Crisis) no one besides Tseng knows where she is and she craftily evades pursuers.
Chase Adams
Didn't Aerith fuck Zack?
Ian Green
Fucking zoomers trying to ruin everything.
Jackson Hughes
The flower girl theory has never been anything more than a bunch of retard insisting something is true simply because they really badly want it to be true
I don't really get it. If you want to fap to doujins or fanfics or whatever, go nuts. But to actually insist it's CANON THAT AERIS RIDES DICKS DAY AND NIGHT FOR MONEY IT'S CANON is just fucking retarded.
Samuel Rogers
Reminds me of the shorts where someone is stabbing/shooting into something they think Bugs is hiding in while he's standing behind them watching.
>I'm so angry people care about something so retarded when the game has better points to obsess over fixed, nobody likes seeing a retard argue about something retarded over and over again
Bentley Watson
OP is literally correct about FFVII. It's nobody's fault but Square's that everything post FFVII has been contradictory.
Luis Diaz
>You are literally the only person who is angry here Because I'm the only person not dumb enough to entertain retarded discussions like this that have been had for 1000000000000000 times already, stop spamming this shit already
>Ultimania, which I think was released before AC? Ok, so it's not actually in the game.
Thomas Walker
Eh. If she were meant to be a hooker the game would have said so. It's not like it shied away from prostitution imagery. Nobody in the Wall Market seemed to recognize Aerith or anything. The game is 100% silent on the issue.
Jayden Cruz
>when the game has better points to obsess over What better points?
Brody Collins
Aerith isn't pure. Do you have ANY idea how much porn fanfiction people have made about her since 1997?
Isaac Walker
I felt like that's a bit too convenient, but Jenova is established to have mindfuck powers so I guess it's explained.
>instead of the guy just plain being wrong about everything. The idea itself is good, it's just that we never see what happens when he does learn that he was wrong since he does that in the lifestream. The only thing that plotpoint needs is to show Sephiroth going even more mad when he finds out that all was "muh ancients should rule the planet" talk was bullshit, and that would make his goals flow more smoothly (going from conquering the planet in Nibelheim to blowing it up to use it as a space car during VII proper)
Landon Rivera
If Crisis Core is to be taken on it's face then probably not since there doesn't seem to be time for that to happen. In fact, their whole relationship seems really basic and not particularly deep in that game.
Jaxon Gomez
It was already happening in the 80s with Dirty Pair I don't know how anyone can obsess over the boring pure waifus who have no personality at all. It's pathetic. Palutena is fun because she subverts that type of character. In fact, original Aeris was a little like Palutena, in that her "role" is the pure perfect holy goddess, but she's actually cheeky and fun.
>If Crisis Core is to be taken on it's face then probably not since there doesn't seem to be time for that to happen The game has timeskips, it's just that they didn't make it clear at all. The time between Angeal's death and the Junon attack is like a year.
Nathaniel Mitchell
We probably should have gotten more glimpses of Sephiroth's mind during the course of the game. If he we saw him discover the truth then killing Aeris could have been not just to stop her from summoning Holy but also revenge against the actual last ancient in a "if I can't have it nobody can" way.
It was Rei. In retrospect, Rei (and Evangelion as a whole) fucked over anime almost beyond repair.
Lincoln Ross
This. It's mostly just unironic cuckold fantasies
Kevin Watson
I can respect your stance. I even like it.
Would it have? There's is no need to be explicit, since the players should have to put a lot of things together already from implication like all of their FF games in that era. Besides there was still a lot of "We can't do that, right?" going on with the developers. We weren't even allowed to get Marlene's panties from the Honey Bee Inn. Neither were the prostitutes in VI and IX called that directly. Now I will freely admit that Squaresoft were crazy based on their past behavior, so they could've had the balls and told us Aerith was a prostitute, but I'm not convinced.
Nicholas Lopez
But Aeris came along after Rei. The problem is still with the retards put in charge of writing the spinoff material thinking it was fine to completely change the characters just because of their beta fantasies, and the fault of the otaku who gobble this shit up
Well if the game is 100% silent on something yet is not 100% silent on the related topic of that thing in other ways, then it's safe to assume that thing it's not silent about does not apply to the thing it is silent about. There's not even anything in hacked/pre-release versions so we can't even call it a cut feature like the panties. It's entirely a non-issue as far as the game is concerned. Shit, the game even insinuates that Cloud and Tifa fucked. Hojo wanted Red XIII to bone Aeris. There are literal hookers in the game. Yet suddenly the "Aeris is a hooker" angle relies on EXTREME subtlety in a game that habitually mentions adult shit.
The only "evidence" is that Aeris, a girl we see literally selling flowers, is called "flower girl." Again, in a game with actual hookers.
Rei was what put the waifu shit on the map. Back in 1994 that wasn't that big a deal but her popularity got so out of control that by the 2000s every girl was a Rei.
Jaxson Sanders
The big sister DOESNT have sexual interest. DOESNT. What's the problem?
Landon Gomez
>Turks start out kind of threatening become LOL MUH JOB goofy later
So are we just gonna ignore that Reno killed like thousands of people? Because I feel like that's a more pressing issue than Aerith being a ho.
Technically so did Barret. They kinda sorta address that later in the game but it's really weird that the game insists on mostly ignoring that.
Colton Richardson
>Aeris >purity sue >the slum rat who threatened to rip a horny sadistic mob don's balls off Well, Cloud white washing her as a Purity Sue makes sense because of guilt from Sephiroth/JENVOA mindfuckery. Mind, he should be over that shit but SE fucked him over too while making everyone inexplicably hot. Even Hojo. Fucking Hojo was made physically attractive in the shit made after FF7. Have you even seen his concept art? He has stupid hair, weird forehead, and a stupid mustache.
SE white washing her makes sense because Flanderization happens when a company tries to spit out more shit for a series than it was originally intended. A lot of it came from shoving the characters into other settings (hello KH) but she's definitely a kind of a bitch and a total tease.
The fans white washing her as a Purity Sue is bullshit because lazy cunts see a nature-loving girl in pink who specializes in white magic and go "oh she's innocent waif". Fans are stupid and look for any reason to bang/deify a character even when there is absolutely no redeeming qualities.
>Aeris is getting Cloud to put on the dress. >She finds a pink wig styled exactly like Lightning's hair. >She throws it into the (offscreen) dressing closet and tells Cloud to put it on. >He comically throws it back it lands perfectly on her head, to her amusement
I always saw that scene not as Jenova scanning Tifa and stitching Cloud together but Cloud doing it himself. When he meets Tifa as a drooling moron at the train station he suddenly remembers her but because he is fucked beyond all comprehension the only thing he remembers of her is the promise he made. Because his promise is he would join SOLDIER he bases his whole personality around what he knew about Zack since he was in SOLDIER. This is also why he remembers being at Nibelheim 5 years prior during the incident and remembers everything he did including going into her underwear draw but he sees himself from Zack's perspective.
Jenova had nothing to do with anything bar Sephiroth's ability to assume direct control. Sephiroth just bullshits him attempt to break him to make it easier to control him. Since none of the other test subjects in the black cloaks had managed to pull themselves around and give themselves any sort of identity. Sephiroth was also in Nibelheim and knew the truth of what happened. He knew that Cloud had generated a false persona based on the clothes he was wearing and how he was acting.
I'm not even sure that Jenova gives him the super strength of a SOLDIER since he never really displays it. He's as strong as everybody else at the start of the game and he could wield the Buster Sword well enough to kill the greatest killing machine of all time when he was just a normal recruit.
Oliver Ward
How can a low poly face with low res textures be so cute?
Camden Garcia
Reminder: If Tifa listened to Barret and didn't snake off to Don Corneo's rape den to get information that was ultimately usesless both you and her would have been around to help Avalanche fight Shinra and while you may not have been able to prevent the drop you could have probably saved Bigs, Wedge and Jessie.
Tifa got her friends killed because she's an idiot.
>Only place where flowers will bloom. Apart from her whole fucking garden
Andrew Ward
How did Barret even know the plate was gonna drop?
Nicholas Morris
or maybe you would've been dead just like them
Elijah Perez
When people started showing up to shoot them.
Hardly. If they can hold out as they did without your help then with your help that would only increase their chances. The fight would still escalate up the tower and you'd still have to go after Reno meaning you could have, at minimum, got them time to bail.
And by that logic if you haven't happened by Tifa going to Don then she would be rape meat. So either way, she's a retard.
David Martinez
different user here, I was raised by hippies who weren't strictly nudists but we had a very clothing optional house. my big sister went naked around the house all the time until I was like 11 or 12 and got a boner in front of her
Blake Mitchell
>pathetic otaku change aeris into a boring purity goddess with no character >pathetic weebs change aeris into a cumdumpster slut with no character It's just all so tiring
Alexander Flores
>messing with his head like a big sister flashing her little brother lol what
Nicholas Scott
There's a lot of common sense in what you say. I think there's a line with a love interest and party member they wouldn't cross needlessly. I'll agree to disagree about it.
However the fact that you keep saying "only" evidence has finally annoyed me to the degree, that I guess I should list all that circumstantial evidence I can think on the spot.
"Flower girl," which is also a cover job for the police, that do in fact patrol even the slums. Sneaks out of the house regularly. Is seen in the back alleys on the Plate. Is used to danger. Is followed regularly. Knows of the red light district. Said place "is especially dangerous for a girl" but runs in there by herself with confidence. Is adept at assessing people for their character and how much they're worth. Is manipulative, flirty, playful, proactive and charming. As in skilled, rehearsed and experienced at those. Has her dress unbuttoned nearly all the way to her waist, so that she'll flash her panties while walking to attract clients. Has a motive to help her foster mother with money. Elmyra in turn is the type of person that "pretends she didn't notice anything." The Gainsboroughs somehow live in comfort in the slums by a mere war widower's pension. The world of VII is gritty. Pays with dates. Needs a bodyguard.
But as said. It's all circumstantial. And I think I forgot a lot.
>Again, in a game with actual hookers. Yet the fact is that no one is called a hooker in VII even though they clearly are.
Jeremiah Johnson
Because it's sincere
Jackson Bennett
When you hear hoofbeats, think horses not zebras. All those things you list is evidence to her being a streetwise con artist, which is exactly what the game depicts her as. You're taking those things and then applying them to something the game is silent on.
Oliver Rogers
Finally an user that gets it. So fucking tired of the retards who spam shit about Cloud being emo or edgy. "MEH, NOT INTERESTED" out of context shitters.
Cloud - the real Cloud - was goof. Now, let's mosey.
Hudson Rodriguez
I agree fully with this guy. >The Gainsboroughs somehow live in comfort in the slums by a mere war widower's pension. Shinra are paying for them to live so they can keep an eye on her. The only reason they kidnap her eventually is because shit starts going down with the terrorist attacks and the turks notice she has started to hang with the terrorists.
Ayden Harris
It is a real shame that SOMEONE really took the wrong message when they made Advent Children.
Austin Reed
>Tifa takes care of Cloud even when he is a drooling retard Xenogears fanboy
Tifa's really a great waifu.
Adam Torres
But Shinra doesn't know Aerith is there. (Well at least according to BC and CC. In BC Tseng is "still working on that longterm project" when asked whether he has found her yet.) If they knew they would pick her up and not leave her in the danger of the slums for a decade, and not in their captivity, postponing and jeopardizing the Neo-Midgar project. This is absolutely impossible, if the top brass would know.
Anthony Edwards
Shinra knows full well where she is at all times how couldn't they? The only way she could even get to the place where she is selling the flowers at the start of the game is to use the train, which it's established straight away need an ID card and fake IDs are very hard to make. If the Turks can track the party across the whole world and never actually lose them they can find the one house in Midgar that has a shit ton of flowers outside of it when flowers don't grow within 100 miles of the city.
Kayden Murphy
In the original game Reno showing up doesn't play out as an uncommon occurrence.
The quality of her house is probably more for gameplay reasons than anything else since it has to be a visually unique location for the player's benefit and large enough to function as a set piece for plot advancement. But how Elmyra affords it can be attributed to whatever money she and her husband had before Aeris even came into the picture. Aeris was still a kid in flashbacks with them in the same house.
Jackson Wilson
>But how Elmyra affords it can be attributed to whatever money she and her husband had before Aeris even came into the picture. Aeris was still a kid in flashbacks with them in the same house. She was a child prostitute.
Angel Edwards
Whatever.
Wyatt Garcia
What also makes Cloud special was that he was biggest threat to the party. He’s the main character, yet he’s essentially been Sephiroth right hand for the majority of the game.
Go away, Squall. You wish your game made half as much sense.
Jack Reyes
AC destroyed FFVII. FFVII itself was a very complete and self-contained game. The only thing left open was the ending; did holy work or not? But to be honest it was inconsequential whether it did or not.
There was no reason for any sort of sequel.
Genesis; Angeal; Whoever that Hojo rival was; Weiss the Immaculate; The weird little orange girl; Nero the Sable etc. They were all Organization XIII tier characters and reeked of Nomura. Kitase and Sakaguchi made it. Nomura just shit all over it.
Jonathan Flores
why does every cloud circlejerk sound like it came from people who didn't actually play the game or quit halfway
How do you motherfuckers consistently forget the incredibly major plot point that Cloud got mindfucked and stole somebody else's personality wholesale?
Logan Hall
People are dumb.
Dylan Smith
Everything in FF8 makes sense. Everything that happens only happens to perpetuate the timeloop.
Landon Morales
>Shinra knows full well where she is at all times how couldn't they? Because according to Before Crisis they don't. I don't make the rules. (And it it's also made clear in that game that no other Turk knows where she is either.)
Disregarding Compilation though: Clearly Aerith Gainsborough, the daughter of Elmyra Gainsborough has an ID card. Clearly unrelated. They also don't know she's a flower seller.
>In the original game Reno showing up doesn't play out as an uncommon occurrence. She could think he's some thug and bad news. After all Cloud has to explain to her what the Turks are. (She might be feigning ignorance. Then again since Tseng hasn't been rough, maybe him being a Turk hasn't come up.)
And yes they already had the house, but there's still expenses to Shinra to pay. And the President is very willing to go for disproportioned Mako rate hikes, the company is often cruel and people resent Shinra being rich, so we can surmise that these expenses aren't minor, yet the mansionlike house still remains years later.
Luke Hughes
Yeah. Aerith was a street smart tomboy. Shes a tricky little urchin who lives in the slums. I love the don corneo scene, how they all offer different ways to smash his balls if he doesnt talk. Even her.
Square decided after ff7 she was a pure angel, ruining everything forever. And most FF7 "fans" now have only seen Advent Children.
Jacob Lewis
Because after his mind gets restored in the lifestream by Tifa and they piece him together again he's even more of a dork than he was before.
Kayden Mitchell
Holy did work. The planet was saved and nature won. The real question was if Holy decided if humans were considered the enemy of the planet or not. That ambiguity is quite beautiful. Mankind was judged and we don't know if they were thought guilty or not - but life went on.
But then AC is like YEAH MANKIND SURVIVED BUT THEY ALL HAVE CANCER OR SOMETHING AND BTW SEPHIROTH IS ALIVE BUT IN A WAY THAT IMPLIES HE CAN COME BACK OVER AND OVER FOR AS LONG AS WE NEED TO DO THIS
ALSO CLOUD CAN'T GET OVER AERIS DEATH YEARS LATER EVEN THOUGH HE HAD FOUND THAT STRENGTH AGAIN BEFORE THE END OF THE GAME
AND RUFUS IS ALIVE LOL WHY? PEOPLE WANNA SEE RUFUS I GUESS
Joseph Perez
This
Samuel Bell
He apologizes for the trouble to the party and says Let's mosey which for some reason is also taken as this holy grail piece of dialogue as if Cloud has never said a cheesy one liner ever since
Thomas Scott
>Holy did work. The planet was saved and nature won. The real question was if Holy decided if humans were considered the enemy of the planet or not. That ambiguity is quite beautiful. Mankind was judged and we don't know if they were thought guilty or not - but life went on.
Ah yeah that was it. You're right. Thanks.
Austin King
Fucking kek, FF7 will fucking trigger the fuck out of the SJW's if you think about it, especially if the remake is accurate, cross dressing, fags, sex workers, retards, black stereotypes, female victimhood, domestic violence/violence against women, gynocide, slavery. implied rape/attempted rape, democide, terrorism, sexism, animal cruelty and more.
Think of how problematic scenes with Cid and Sherra, Hojo and females are for a start. Cloud beating the fuck out of aeris, tifas big tits, don corneo, honey bee in, cloud in a wheelchair, scenes with barrett.
FF7 is fucking great.
Hudson Richardson
>They were all Organization XIII tier characters and reeked of Nomura. This right here, though I liked Angeal. Maybe it's because Genesis makes him look good by comparison.
Bentley Baker
Yeah none of that will be in the remake. They'll just gloss over everything apart from making Cloud really like the cross dressing.
Aaron Campbell
Wasn't Aerith some sorta prostitute?
I thought this was some old japanese trope about the flower girls standing next to soldiers barracks in WW2 or some shit.
>was just her messing with his head like a big sister flashing her little brother
Your family is weird user
Jason Scott
He also gets claustrophobic in the submarine and bonds with Yuffie about getting motion sickness
John Campbell
We'll know they're not going to go as hardcore with just Midgar.
Multiple terrorist bombings, murdering guards, and the way Reno drops the plate on an entire Sector (while also wiping out most of Avalanche in the fight, including Biggs getting THROWN OFF A FUCKING BUILDING AND LANDING RIGHT IN FRONT OF YOU), the Don Corneo events before that, the bloody slaughter of ShinRa personnel after Cloud and company attack it and Sephiroth comes for Jenova, etc, etc...
How much of the Final Fantasy VII Remake "saga" I buy is largely going to depend on how much they stray from the source material. I'm guessing SquareEnix doesn't have the balls to go half as hard as the original did.
Levi Howard
If they don't know who she is then why do they kidnap her straight away once shit starts going down.
Josiah Taylor
What's funny is the Cid and Sherra thing, when played from start to finish, would be a great message that SJW would like to adopt; that ultimately, the loudmouth man was wrong and the woman was correct.
But because ANY amount of misogyny, regardless of its use to tell a story, triggers them, then yeah, it'll be thrown right out.
Ethan Murphy
Bumble Bee Inn / Prostitute sub-quest is confirmed never to see HD
Blake Allen
Which doesn't tie at all into this idea people have that Cloud is an alpha motherfucker, if anything it just reinforced Cloud's personality in CC where he's a timid recruit who gets sick easily and really looks up to Zack
People really don't get Cloud at all
Cameron Hall
No, she was just a refugee living with some random "step-mom" who took her home from a train station and made her go to church instead of communing with the planet, or whatever pagan shit she did before
Xavier Sullivan
Shut the fuck up you obsessed faggot Do we really need this shit in every thread? Go ahead, call me the words
Austin Bailey
No scarlet, no elena, no lucrecia, no honey bee in girls, no sheva, no jenova.
Parker Reed
>Cloud: "Don't give me the black materia." >Barret: "Ok, Cloud." >Cloud: "Give me the black materia." >Barret: "Ok, Cloud."
I'm not sure what your argument is anymore? Is he Alpha? Is he Emo? Is he a Dork?
William Myers
>no scarlet and tifa cat-fighting atop a giant phallic cannon
LAME
That said, Tifa can punch you so hard that dolphins appear from nowhere. She should not have any trouble winning a slap fight against fucking Scarlet
Ayden Sanchez
He's an alpha emo dork
Tyler Jones
He's not alpha in FF7 and he's not full-on emo in AC, his true personality has always been that he's a huge dork with a heart of gold and that's been consistent across literally all of his appearances with the exception of KH1 where he gets almost no screentime
William Sanchez
>and bonds with Yuffie about getting motion sickness That part was pretty weird though because he says something along the lines of "yeah I got sick because back in SOLDIER we would ride trucks all the time" even though he knows he wasn't in SOLDIER.
Julian Lee
>BTW SEPHIROTH IS ALIVE BUT IN A WAY THAT IMPLIES HE CAN COME BACK OVER AND OVER FOR AS LONG AS WE NEED TO DO THIS To be fair, he only went back to the state he was in post-Nibelheim; floating around in the lifestream, but this time, his consciousness fragmented and weakened, but not quite dissolved.
Call it bullshit, if you want, but it's not unprecedented in the lore. What IS unprecedented in the lore is a normal human without any hatred or regrets retaining their individuality in the lifestream, meaning Zack should not have been able to talk to Cloud. My headcanon is that Aeris somehow fetched Zack's memories and experiences from the lifestream and and appeared in his image, since it's the only way that scene works without straight up retconning the rules of that universe.
>ALSO CLOUD CAN'T GET OVER AERIS DEATH YEARS LATER EVEN THOUGH HE HAD FOUND THAT STRENGTH AGAIN BEFORE THE END OF THE GAME Ehhh, this is really overselling Cloud's character; he found the strength to break free of Sephiroth's control and save the planet, but nothing in the game implied he ever got over the guilt he felt over Aeris, or Zack for that matter. That's a conclusion the fanbase seemed to come to on their own, based on no information that would point to it being true.
nomura created not only cloud’s design but his personality and mannerisms as well. he had significant input on ffvii’s story. on the other hand, nojima was the scenario writer for advent children and crisis core. i think everyone remaining at squenix has lost sight of the real ffvii
Hunter Nguyen
As dated as the writing and cliche as the plot can seem, i find some of the flawed characters endearing.
Evan Cooper
I consider the house conservation of detail. The explanation is that it is what it is. There's no need for the game to go into shit like mortgages and property taxes and what affect that has on Elmyra and Aeris. I accept that they can afford the house because the game says they can. What I can't accept is the leap to "they afford it because Aeris fucks for money!" That's just fanfiction level asspull territory.
Nathaniel Gray
I've never posted this on the chans before m8.
Cameron Smith
>nomura created not only cloud’s design but his personality and mannerisms as well. He pretty much gave that same life to all the characters in the game. He's as much responsible for how FFVII turned out as great as it did as Kitase and Sakaguchi, like it or not.
Logan Harris
Aeris has a nice house because the Turks fucking murder anyone who goes near her or her mom.
Because Tseng finally decided to take her in and found her on the way to Aerith's house and according to Elmyra she probably couldn't get away because Marlene was in tow.
Mason Kelly
AC pulled a lot of cheap tricks like that. Like how Rufus magically survived what was otherwise a VERY clear dramatic death in FFVII on the banal grounds of "we didn't see the body."
Sebastian King
Is she special needs or something? Why the fuck is she dressed like that and why does she thing half a car bumper on her arm, legwarmers and a knee-brace held in place by suspenders makes her a a ninja?
Liam Nguyen
You're right he did however at the time Kitase and Sakaguchi were reigning him in.
Nojima wrote the scenario but I think after VII they only used his scenarios as a very loose base. Because he also wrote the scenario for DoC, X-2 , XIII and XV.
Isaac Cox
post yfw square makes Tifa look like this to appeal to sjws and censors half the game like said
Cloud's natural personality appeared to show a bit more around Tifa during the whole game. He would go from getting in Barret's face over money to being a little sheepish when alone with her right after. The tough guy act always melted away when they were alone together.
Ethan Perry
Wow it's almost like people's personalities can't be summed up in a single arbitrary meme title. Crazy.
>imagining scenarios and getting mad about them and then telling other people your imagined scenarios to make them mad too Perfectly healthy and rational behavior
Connor Ortiz
When Cloud is in the wheelchair if he doesn't say only his name over and over like Timmy from South Park I will refuse to buy the remake.
Xavier Young
Did anyone ever tell Zack's parents he was dead?
Thomas Cook
No he can't make words, he just grunts and wheezes like a real spaz
Anthony Howard
No. Not anywhere in the Compilation either.
Xavier Roberts
kitase’s the only one who hasn’t done anything batshit crazy, probably because he stopped directing games and became an executive. but he directed some of the best games of all time. i miss him
while i agree the remake shouldn’t take these things out, the game isn’t great because it had controversial plot elements. fans like this are just as bad as compilation fans imo
It's also really cool narratively. It's Final Fantasy so you don't expect much. And the game takes advantage of this by making the main character an unreliable narrator. If Cloud says that he was on a mission years ago, why would you not believe him? He's the main character. So by the time you realize Cloud's story is falling apart, it's a kick in the balls because Cloud is finding out at the same time and you can empathize with him. Which ironically makes it easier for the player to accept Sephiroth's account that Cloud is just some random made to look like Cloud from a botched experiment. It's a half truth but there's just enough truth in it to make it believable considering you just spent 20 hours chasing a shape shifter.
Angel Wood
games ALWAYS become less redpilled and soulful in their remakes nowadays. ALWAYS.
Zack wasn't from Nibelheim, you meet his parents later and they talk about how proud they are of him and shit and it's super uncomfortable that Aerith knows he's been dead for years and says nothing
Connor Cox
Thanks for the correction.
Adrian Morales
>and it's super uncomfortable that Aerith knows he's been dead for years and says nothing She doesn't know, if you don't take Crisis Core into account.
Austin Clark
No. Zack's parents are still in Gongaga asking about their son. Also if you take Tifa and Aeris with you on the way to Cosmo Canyon you can see then react to them. Aeris will be stricken with grief because Zack is her ex boyfriend. And Tifa will remark that she's never met a Zack Fair in her life and will even get angry when Cloud presses the issue. One of the early clues that something is extremely wrong with their relationship.
Lucas Lee
>if you ignore facts that you don't like, you can make the truth whatever you want
Wyatt Parker
She doesn't know he's dead but she does know that he seemingly dropped off the face of the earth.
Matthew Gray
If Aeris was a whore then why didn't she work at a whorehouse literally just down the road which was so renown that even the president of Shinra went there/
Bentley Ortiz
If they do it like the trailers look the game will have to change dramatically just for it to function properly. The environments have to get MUCH larger to accommodate the new battle mechanics and they probably won't have a traditional world map which forces changes to where places are and how you get to them, not to mention all the side quests that can't work the same in that scenario. Then when you chop it up into "episodes" it changes even more. Mark my words that this game will be unrecognizable.
Ryder Mitchell
She wasn't a whore. People here seem to mistake being streetwise and smartmouthed with being a sex worker.
She wasn't actually going to fuck Cloud, she just wanted him to buy her shit flowers
Jaxson Perez
Aerith not saying anything happens in VII, if another game retcons her knowledge a decade later, the fault is in the new game. But what can you expect from a game that managed to contradict every other entry in the Compilation?
Juan Myers
Which his parents were aware of as well, so she has nothing to add.
Liam Walker
So was Jenova an alien?
Jeremiah James
Yeah she just kinda fell out of space one day like Lavos
Carter Scott
yes. she’s basically john carpenter’s the thing
Gabriel Morgan
Yes. That Shinra confused for a Cetra. Because Jenova is also a shapeshifter who infiltrated and killed off most of them before the rest of them died trying to kill her.
Aiden James
>messing with his head like a big sister flashing her little brother
They literally alude that she's a prostitute in the beginning of the game
Cameron Rodriguez
No, they don't
Landon James
>made her go to church instead of communing with the planet
Yeah sorry buddy but that straight up sounds like she was sucking street dick for a fiver. Commune with the planet my ass. Her step-mom made her sinful ass go to church so she'd stop trading tang for cash.
>Basically our heroes and villains are aliens to this planet.
Which is why in the end the Red 13 species, as the native species wins overall
Brayden Richardson
Remember the massive Crater?
Parker Powell
It baffles me how so many anons ITT confuse Cloud's character. He had Zack's MEMORIES of Nibelheim incident and him being in SOLDIER not Zack's fucking personality you fucking morons. Fuck! He was still Cloud, had his own personality throughout the entire game, and he just remembered the facts wrong and his mind was too fucked up to even recognize that something is not adding up in his stories.
And Aerith wasn't a prostitute, you retards.
Carter Lee
The Cetra actually summoned Jenova. The Black Materia was used to summon meteor once before hence the northern crater and the murals in the Pyramid.
Evan Perez
>Hojo tried to forcibly breed Aerith and Red XIII
Fucking hell this game was degenerate
Dylan Wilson
Why was Marlene asian in Advent Children?
Was Dyne Asian?
Jason Powell
Was Shinras actual plan to find the Promised Land and make Neo-Midgar?
If it was why didn't they just use an airship to explore the huge obvious crater spewing Mako everywhere? Why didn't they just take the Ancient living in their own city sprouting flowers wherever she went?
Wyatt White
Aerith didn't know in CC either, at best she "felt" it but there was no way for her to be sure. She didn't know the circumstances either.
Connor Johnson
One must wonder if Hojo actually had a PhD or if he just owned a lab coat
>uploaded his mind into the internet before the internet was a publically available thing
Jason Lopez
it was a retcon like everything else in the AC. The asians came from Wutai. Dyne was not from Wutai.
Chase Howard
Oh you sweet summer child
Jayden Miller
>If it was why didn't they just use an airship to explore the huge obvious crater spewing Mako everywhere?
Too expensive, need to maintain the bottom line.
>Why didn't they just take the Ancient living in their own city sprouting flowers wherever she went? Tseng assured President Shinra he had the matter under control and the fat git believed him
Ryan Baker
oh you fucking reddit poster
Angel Jackson
>My sister did it all the time. I used to pretend I was embarassed and hated it so she wouldn't catch on that I was old enough to beat my dick like it owed me money afterward. She knew user. She knew.
Jason Gonzalez
There's so much shit that's just not going to work in the remake, like when Red XIII disguises himself as a sailor. I think they'll have to either cut it entirely or gloss over it.
Jaxon Rivera
She doesn't seem much Asian to me, perhaps a 1/8 or so.
Kayden Foster
She knew the exact moment her adopted father dies and runs to tell her adopted mother. Why wouldn't she know the exact moment somebody else died?
Owen Morris
She died a virgin.
Evan Ramirez
Why do people like to ignore the fact that Aerith was in love with Cloud. Is it Zackcucks that are mad Aerith moved on? Or is it threatened Tifacucks?
Matthew Mitchell
>Aerith is constantly bothered by the planet pinging her whenever someone she knows dies >that's what she's so determined to help the guy who are sick
I buy it
Jaxson Adams
>basement dwelling neckbeard thinks calling someone a reddit poster is an actual insult
Good god
Joseph Peterson
Idiot.
Nathaniel Perez
Aerith is a whore. Deal with it.
Elijah Ramirez
>Red XIII
Reds 1-12 got to 5th base with her
Leo Parker
Tifa had one of those with every boy in the town. This is canon. It states that Tifa got called out to the tower by every boy in town and they all made her similar promises like Cloud did when they left.
Lucas Perez
why did square have to include that fucking tifa NTR flashback? I don't care if tifa and cloud eventually fucked, that shit pissed me off
Eli Powell
You could make a very convincing case that she must know, because it's the same feeling as when she felt Elmyra's husband coming to see her and Aerith is definitely shocked and gasps in the ending. Why she didn't feel it in VII was because Zack was still explicitly a womanizer, so he wasn't thinking of her that seriously.
Landon Hernandez
>the one hot girl in the isolated rural village was popular with all the boys
shocking
Julian White
>not Zack's fucking personality He absolutely did take on Zack’s personality/mannerisms. Aeirith even says this herself if you chose her for the Gold Saucer date. That moment is also where we see that Aerith knows there’s something very off about Cloud
Owen Bennett
But FF7 did not subvert my expectations, Yuffie was indeed the best girl.
But maintaining a massive 50 mile long cannon wasn't too expensive? Despite them owning 90% of the known world.
Charles Nelson
It's always a little strange seeing good posts on current Yea Forums Almost makes wading through the shitposts worth it. Probably not though.
Adrian Harris
Yes, exactly
Mason Mitchell
both honestly. never forget cloud and aerith reach for each others hands through the lifestream during the ending fmv. also aerith’s the easiest one to take on the gold saucer date
Isaac Thompson
Shinra is really strange with their use of military assets. Like they show up to take Cid's plane to find Sephiroth but they have a military fleet. Not just the Highwind but smaller planes too. They also have a standing submarine detachment of their naval force but they're the only entity on the planet with submarine capability. They also have a giant cannon pointing at nothing. If it was meant for Wutai then it's pointing the wrong way. Also despite having an elite detachment of SOLDIER specifically there to put down rebellion, they defaulted to blowing up 1/8th of their Capitol, to kill 5 people and their mercenary. Which didn't actually kill anyone they were trying to kill since 3 died in the skirmish and the other 3 escaped. Shinra is the quintessential embodiment of "fuck it."
Isaac Evans
Can you imagine how fucking weird it must have been watching Vincent turn into a fucking Frankenstein when he used his limit break? I'd have politely told him to GTFO of the party.
Leo Brown
If Tifa was Cloud's friend all along then why didn't she call him out when he was telling the fake story and tell him what really happened like a good friend would have?
Nomura is your answer for square's problem. His revisions make is seem like he never even played the original game
Carson Hernandez
Both. It certainly ruins it for people who self insert themselves as brave and happy-go-lucky soldier Zack with perfect girlfriend Aerith or for people who self insert themselves as Cloud, who in their mind is fucking big titty monster Tifa, their hot waifu.
Landon Cox
Hey, nifty. I got your answer in the spoiler already. How convenient.
Nathan Ortiz
>Zack was still explicitly a womanizer The only line I remember referring to this was Aerith assuming Zack ran away. >so he wasn't thinking of her that seriously. He died travelling to Midgar, why on earth would he try to enter the city owned by Shinra other than to see Aerith?
Hudson Turner
Because Tifa is a whore.
Jaxon Perez
Man I'm high and that just made my night
Lincoln Edwards
this thread is all the proof you need that FF7R is going to be complete shit
the story and tone of this game has been ruined by its companion pieces and sequels
Jason Turner
In case he went full Rambo
Plus she liked having him around, so she just humored him and his insane obviously false story about being a SOLDIER 1st class
Zachary Gonzalez
The slap fight didn't make any sense to begin with for that very reason. That whole sequence was really weird. I get that Shinra is evil but the fucking gas chamber execution suddenly felt like a strange shift in tone from their earlier over the top Captain Planet villainy. There's just something more cartoonish about dropping a giant piece of the city on thousands vs. an execution with a true to life scenario.
Joshua Young
Here, have a (You).
Caleb Long
But nothing in FFVII says he's a womaniser?
Compilation is bollocks so it's retcons don't count.
I am real scared of how the remake will handle Sephiroth. His Dissidia and Kingdom Hearts appearances are so basic. Same with Advent Children. It's like SE hold Sephiroth in reverence. They barely have him emote or say a word in any post-FF7 material. He always has to show up for as little screen time as possible to fight with Cloud, talk about darkness, 'lose without dying, and the vanishing without changing so much as his vocal inflections.
If I didn't know any better, I'd say SE are scared of writing Sephiroth nowadays. They're idolising him like Cloud/Zack did and don't ever want to write anything that ruins his 'cool' mystique.
Blake Fisher
She explains this. Initially Cloud's story was so drastically different from what she remembered that she thought she remembered it wrong due to her wounds. Then when it became clear that Cloud was not well she tried to preserve Cloud's mental state by reinforcing his recollection of events. Which is why she refused to acknowledge Zack at Gongaga and why she told Cloud Sephiroth was lying at the Crater
Aaron Morgan
Cloud dies when he falls into the lifestream and everything that happens afterwards is just his dying dream
Ethan Gonzalez
I think it was a mistranslation. I'm just sad that the Aerith getting bred by Red XIII meme didn't launch into an oversaturation of doujins like Bianca the horse bride from DQ V.
Squall wasn’t emo at all. His characteristics were meant to be a nod to the fourth wall. His lack of emotion toward the party always came after there was a cliche or trope being heavily waved in the players face. If you couldn’t pick up on this, you probably haven’t played the game since childhood OR you’re on the autism spectrum.
Aeris is far superior to Tifa though and Aeris was a shadow of herself in Crisis Core when she was with Zack. It was puppy love. She grew into her own only around the time she met Cloud. That's why it was true love. She wasn't just a kid anymore.
I have nothing against Zack, but her feelings for Cloud went far deeper than they ever were for him.
This is stated somewhere so I don't know why people still debate over it.
The FFVII remake was always Squares ace in the hole when they ran out of any other money making idea.
They fucked up XV, they've already used up KH3.
They can not do anything to change or damage Sephiroth's character now because he's the only money maker besides Cloud that they have left. They will play it incredibly safe.
Ian White
It is stated in Ultimania on Zack's info page >On the way of escape to Midgar, which girlfrienddid he plan to ask help for? It implies that he was seeing more girls other than Aerith.
How can anyone claim to know what was actually happening in FF7 unless they understand Japanese and played the original release? Wasn't the English translation butchered and nothing like the real one?
Owen James
>Ultimania
Ethan Sanchez
They are mutually exclusive, like female SOLDIERs you don't see THOT Turks
in the script for the flashback he says he won’t go to aerith’s because of elmyra. the way he says it is very flippant to so clearly he wasn’t missing aerith all that much
Jose Morgan
I like how Tifa "tried" to help Could but she just ended up making everything worse or not helping at all. Meanwhile Aeris healed him emotionally and physically in Advent Children. Even from beyond the grave, Aeris is the superior waifu. No wonder Tifa is still jealous of a dead girl.
Aerith didn't die, she joined the lifestream and due to her Cetra genes was able to canoe in it
Eli Miller
No need to tell me, I'm not a shipfag, I don't care. But if I had to choose I would pick Aerith and Cloud too, they make more sense to me than the other ones.
Jace Myers
This is why FFVII is tough to understand sometimes. Because it relies on having certain party members and reading into small, seemingly insignificant dialogue that comes up many game hours earlier than the plot points they tie into. It interferes with the "OH! It all makes sense now!" factor that good plot twists can take advantage of.
Adam Cooper
>the way he says it is very flippant to so clearly he wasn’t missing aerith all that much How the fuck do you even come up with this. >He doesn't want to show up to his girlfriend's mom's house after four years and with his comatose friend >Therefore he doesn't miss her I legitimately don't understand the implication here.
Levi Williams
It's cool with me. In the end he dies, so whatever if he was a thot himself or not.
James Scott
If the remake has Genesis I will fucking scream.
Ayden Hernandez
Maiden who Travels the Planet, Before Crisis and the secretary flashback in Crisis Core's DMW corroborate her assessment of him.
To become as he said, a mercenary. Big currency flows in and into Midgar all the time. It's also easier to meld into the large crowd there.
The answer is in Before Crisis. She and the other Turks went into hiding from Shinra among the common populace and lead normal lives, but are ready to gather if Tseng ever recalls them only to after the mission's end return to their civilian lives. They're basically retired and the Shinra company (besides the remaining Turks and Rufus) thinks they have died.
Genesis and Angeal are awesome, if they don't have them I will be disappointed
Easton Gutierrez
Sephiroth shouldn't be difficult to write. Sephiroth, in game, doesn't give a fuck about Cloud. He didn't even remember his name the first time they ran into each other. There's a point to this, as Cloud idolized Sephiroth, Cloud was nothing in Sephiroth's eyes. As the game continues and Cloud steps into his own and realizes that he is good enough not only does he gain the true affection of Tifa, the reason he left home in the first place, but he also becomes a true threat to Sephiroth to the point where he has to leverage the planet's Mako supply to fight him and still lost. Also a mental battle where Cloud blew the fucking doors off his mental idealization of Sephiroth.
Nowadays Sephiroth seems as obsessed with Cloud as Cloud used to be with Sephiroth. Cloud can't even take a shit without Sephiroth's head popping out the toilet
Parker Bell
Because she didnt have all the answers herself either. People forget that Tifa had her own mystery to solve. She doesn’t remember seeing Cloud at Nibleheim, yet he was able to recall some of the things that actually happened there. It was only until Mideel where they both figure out that Cloud WAS there, just not as who he said he was
Parker Bennett
Now that sounds like an awkward situation
I had something kind of similar happen, Idk if it was sleep walking because I remember it but I used to sleep naked because it was more comfortable to me and I remember being very groggy and waking up and not realizing I had full morning wood and my whole family saw me. Gladly it was never brought up again and I hope they think I was just sleep walking but no I remember it horrifyingly once I realized what happened later in the day. I have never slept nude since and recommend that no male ever does if they live with their family.
Ryder Martin
Didn't Gackt refuse to allow Square using his image any longer?
Nathan Torres
Cloud literally murdered Sephiroth. Why wouldn't he remember that?
Michael Martin
>even though the game sets the scenario up perfectly, every doujin is Fed XIII fucking Tifa or Yuffie but never Aeris why
Oliver Rogers
It would be amazing if she does it for shits and giggles to humiliate the woman who nearly gassed her. Just make it so that Scarlet never touches you and then you knock her right off the platform at the end.
Jeremiah Powell
Explains why Crisis Core never saw another release. You'd think square would cash in on that shit big time unless they had a reason not to.
Juan Thomas
Nah, it was just Hojo who was degenerate. Even the rest of Shinra's brass thought he had a screw loose. They just let him do his thing because he got results.
Jaxon Nelson
>To become as he said, a mercenary That's not his reason for travelling, it's even on the script posted here. >What're you gonna do when we get to Midgar? Why would he ask this question when he's been travelling for 10 months? You'd think he'd have come up with the mercenary thing way back, before fleeing across the entire world from the Shinra armed forces.
>It's also easier to meld into a large crowd there Because it worked so well for AVALANCHE. You know where you can meld into better? Bumfuck nowhere.
Justin Davis
The Sephiroth you see in all the modern sections of the game isn't Sephiroth. It's just Jenova cells in the form of Sephiroth. Sephiroth died in Nibelheim.
Camden Ortiz
I doubt it. But either way I kept getting to see her tits so I didnt care much at the time.
Evan Morris
Mannerisms aren't the same thing as personality. Two people with different personalities can physically behave the exact same way and you wouldn't even notice their unique personas until you met them both at the same time.
Bentley Parker
Yes. He didn't like Genesis. (Because he was a villain and therefore hurting his image. It's justified since he was there to design Genesis' dialogue filled with that Hero stuff and Square-Enix made him a villain behind his back.)
Unfortunately Gackt and Square-Enix' relationship seems to have warmed up lately, since Genesis appears in one of the mobile games.
William Fisher
You tell me. But on the ship to Costa Del Sol Sephiroth had no idea who Cloud was. He only remembered him after Cloud chased him to the Mansion basement in Nibelheim. And that interaction boiled down to "come to the Reunion." Which wasn't really unique to Cloud, all the clones were being lead there. The only difference is Cloud, being a failed clone, didn't turn into a gibbering mess like the other clones. Which ironically probably speaks to Cloud's willpower. Out of all the guys injected with alien cum Cloud was the only one to retain a sense of self identity. A broken, cobbled together mess held together with Elmer's glue and bandaids but he wasn't a mindless slave.
All this time Cloud wanted to be Sephiroth when really Cloud himself was always better than him. He threw him in a hole before the game's plot even began. The only who didn't believe it was Cloud himself which held him back.
I think that's more a sisterly relationship. Like the kind that show their little brothers their tits.
Ryder Butler
You mean the electric company doesn't know how to manage its military? I don't believe it.
Josiah Davis
It was probably more awkward for her than me lol, I was too young to realize what was happening
Charles Martinez
>AC destroyed FFVII Pretty much. It cemented a lot of the worst misconceptions about FF7 and turned the setting and characters two dimensional.
Adam Davis
I've never found the " almost a year on the run after Nibelheim" thing to be in any way believable. Exactly how could he drag Cloud along for that? To me it's a stupid Compilation retcon and he's been on the move for about three days at that point at most.
Maybe. However clearly people are trying to hide in Midgar and think it's a good idea. Can't fault Zack for that.
Jason Walker
They found him in an underground krypt sleeping in a fucking COFFIN. That he LEVITATED OUT OF. They knew what they were getting.
Jonathan Rivera
You're damn right bro You're a cool guy
Michael Peterson
She saw Zack's mannerisms in Cloud, not literal Zack and his personality. She also calls them two completely different people and the similarities she notices and lista during the date are all in the matter of their gestures.
Dominic Cox
It's a shame what Dirge reduced him to. That game should have stay exclusively as a Vincent prequel.
Liam Watson
That is the easiest way to get out of a coffin after a nap
Benjamin Butler
>Exactly how could he drag Cloud along for that? To me it's a stupid Compilation retcon and he's been on the move for about three days at that point at most. You do realize how far apart Nibelheim and Midgar are, right? There's an ocean inbetween, and Zack didn't have a buggy either. Even then the actual amount of time is irrelevant, you don't come up with a plan AFTER travelling through the world while being on the run.
Asher Barnes
Well you're a retarded faggot, fuck off bitch.
Carson Gonzalez
But if it was only 3 days how would he find the time to kill Genesis?
Leo Davis
But Genesis didn't die. Play Dirge faggot.
James Hernandez
I really like this game
Andrew Allen
Go to bed, Cloud. Aeris is waiting for you in your dreams
That's basically how SE wrote the original game. It was heavily biased towards Cloud/Aerith. That's also why she had the most points and it was the easiest to get the date with her. She is more like the canon love interest of that game than anything, Tifa is much more optional.
It's just a problem with keeping stories like these going. FFVII should have ended with the game, but they have to create a world after those events and they don't know what to do with Tifa because her defining characteristic was pining after Cloud. Unlike Aerith, who had other shit going on. So then you have to sort of "force" a Tifa/Cloud thing to keep the story going. I think it's interesting that even with this dilemma, they still won't confirm Tifa/Cloud and pussyfoot around it. Methinks they are still somewhat protective of the original story where Aeris was the main love interest.
aeris is the worst party member i've ever had in an RPG. like, shit, she is so fucking just THERE until the game decided her to be part of the plot.
thank god she dies. the journey is about cloud and his past with Stephen Jones, the edgy fuck whose sad that his mom is a space monster.
make a character like tia from lufia 2, dammit.
Dominic Butler
The aesthetic style is going to take the worst of it. The original game had a serious cyberpunk vibe. There were neon yellows and greens for lighting. It looked like what you'd get from an 80s movie about a future dystopia run by an all powerful corporation. The remake loses all that for a bunch of gray.
And the characters themselves still had that cartoon design. If you took the original FFVII 3D models and updated them to modern 3D they should look more like Frozen than the hyper realism of Advent Children.
>original story where Aeris was the main love interest Did you miss the scene at the airship?
Dylan Flores
>fucking a womanlet
Gabriel Martin
>Play Dirge faggot. Why would you say such a horrible thing
Ryder Lewis
No, but that scene is completely optional. Aeris still had more points than Tifa and the Cloud/Aeris date is the canon one and it's frequently referenced as such in official material after the fact.
And regardless if you pick Tifa, Cloud still says he wants to meet Aeris and reaches for her at the end of the game.
Daniel Ramirez
Yeah, Tifa and Cloud would definitely fuck on the rocks under the Highwind, right. And people say Aerith is the whore?
Leo Martinez
I'm legitimately curious about this, too. Squall's reason for being a dipshit was because he was afraid to get close to people so he'd push them away. But if there's some double meaning there I'd like to hear it. I really don't think FFVIII is a clever enough game for it to be deliberate.
Lincoln Scott
>tfw slowly puzzling this together over multiple playthroughs as a young child Every time I played I would notice and understand more, and the experience just kept getting more engaging. It was like rereading a good book.
Imagine choosing to fuck Tifa only for Cloud to basically pump and dump her because the next day he's all for Aerith again. SE was savage back in the day.
Brayden Reyes
You've only seen Advent Children haven't you.
Aeris was only the most likely to get a date because most first time players would end up on it and it was a good way to get the player invested in her before her death. Cloud/Tifa was always the more likely relationship. Tifa actually cares for Cloud throughout the whole game, she pieces him back together, they fuck at the end of disk 2. Cloud drops Aeris when he sees Tifa on the chocobo cart going to Wall Market and the whole reason he left for Midgar in the first place was to impress her.
Julian Jackson
I thought Tifa was just pretending to be a hostage
Christian Evans
I can agree to this.
Nicholas Nelson
To be precise I said that about the buggy scene (and not the gunning down scene that can happen much later*), which begins if I may add with Zack dressing Cloud in his old uniform, meaning they've not been on the move for long.
*) Still not longer than, let's say, ten days, because if we take into account the dusk that is around Cosmo Canyon on the map as a "night" in the VII journey, then the trip from Gongaga to Nibelheim must take a day.
David Gonzalez
I'm convinced the game will get cancelled. It's run overbudget and been started from scratch at least once. Meanwhile people are eating up FFIX rereleases. My guess is they'll take whatever work they've done on FFVII Remake and fold it over into a different game like they did with FF Versus XIII and then just do a straight reskin of the original FFVII with brand new art assets so they can say they kept their promise to remake it. Which, honestly, is probably for the best.
Ethan Anderson
She didn't want to embarrass him in front of the group he had finally learned to trust. Especially when she didn't have all the answers herself.
Noah Lee
>Advent Children left Cloud the emo kid forever. While the fact that Cloud was emo for most of the movie was stupid, he DOES get over it by the end.
Anthony Scott
Genesis' shitty dialogue was because of Gackt? Jesus christ and here I was blaming Nomura for that shit
Alexander Hernandez
>TIFA IS BEST GIRL REEEEEE it’s like you didn’t even read the post. cloud and aerith is reenforced in the game and every piece of media taking place after the game’s events
No, Aeris had the most points because the game was biased towards her.
>it was a good way to get the player invested in her before her death
Yes, the game favored Cloud/Aeris and was biased towards the relationship that's exactly what I said.
Cloud is supposed to fall for Aeris because it will make her death more dramatic. Thanks for noticing basic writing techniques.
That's probably why the official commercials for VII said "a love that could never be" text over the scene of Cloud lowering Aerith into the water.
Cloud had feelings for Tifa, no one is denying that. But the main romance of the game was Cloud/Aeris. Tifa's main function was to be a rebound for players after Aeris dies, but she was never supposed to be the main focus which is why she wasn't.
Oliver Hughes
And she's also being a manipulative bitch throughout half of the game and constantly angry and pushy single mother archetype with convenient 'just black friend' in the movie. I'd rather believe that Cloud was a cuck than that he ended up with her.
Except Tifa was Cloud's central motivation for leaving. Tifa was Cloud's central motivation for returning. Tifa is the one who brings Cloud back. Tifa left 7th Heaven because she's concerned for Cloud. Tifa stayed with Cloud because she couldn't bring herself to leave him in Mideel.
Cloud and Tifa love each other. They're so caught up in their own neuroses that they fuck up every opportunity to be together. It took the literal end of the world for them to get over themselves and give in to one another. I'm not saying CloudxAeris wouldn't be a good end, Aeris is good for Cloud. But Cloud and Tifa are devoted to each other.
Connor Lee
It was Gackt and one other person, who wasn't Nomura. Blaming Nomura for many things should be encouraged though.
Brody Peterson
That wasn't even in the Japanese version, but I'll admit I still find it funny.
Nathan Russell
>cloud and aerith is reenforced in the game and every piece of media taking place after the game’s events Then why does Cloud have two adopted children with Tifa in AC? Checkmate faggot.
Cooper Hernandez
Like I said, the amount of time they took is beside the point. The action usually comes after the reason for said action, not before.
Thomas Walker
When /tg/ and /d/ have a baby
Noah Cox
Little things that would ruin the remake for you:
>Aerith's Theme no longer plays in the Jenova bossfight at the end of Disk 1, it's replaced by the standard boss battle theme.
Caleb Watson
>Tifa's main function was to be a rebound for players after Aeris dies Nah, Tifa is the glue that fuses unrelated parts of the script together. *Cloud's link to Avalance *Aeris' love rival *Cloud's sanity check *Cloud's rebound
Jace Cook
And Barret is their what? Son too huh?
Should I remind you that Marlene is his adoptive daughter you retard? She is firstly his daughter, not Tifa's or Cloud's. So by your logic Tifa is having relationship with Barret too.
Henry Russell
But that's what I'm saying. If he comes up with the mercenary idea after finding some peace from the fighting on the buggy only a few days in, it makes more sense.
Xavier King
>I have never slept nude since and recommend that no male ever does if they live with their family. You don't even need to be nude. I was wearing just underwear right after a workout and going to the kitchen to make a protein shake I got one of those totally random "dont know why the fuck that happened" boners and my dick found juuust the right angle to get some air and waved hello to my mom sitting at the table having coffee.
they live in the same building when cloud’s not off doing deliveries and brooding over aerith

So you're saying that Zack took Cloud outside Nibelheim, decided he would travel to one of the most distant places he could for no reason, and then justified it 5 minutes before arriving?
Luke Miller
This is objective truth

Thomas Perez
cloud literally reaching out to aerith and telling tifa she wants to meet her in the promised land is a lot more substantial than an optional scene
Caleb Morales
Barret is pure.
Owen Harris
what's your opinion though bro?
Thomas Morris
No one is saying Cloud and Tifa didn't have a bond or feelings for each other at points, but you're acting like that suddenly means they are the main romance. That's not how writing works and that's now how VII was written.
Cloud and Aeris were in love, her death devastated him and the Tifa/Cloud scene is optional and it's clear in the aftermath they are not in a romantic relationship.
The writing goes out of its way to make Tifa's jealousy towards Aeris clear even after her death. Because she knows Aeris has a part of Cloud that she can never touch. Aeris was Cloud's true love and vice versa. His lack of commitment to Tifa wasn't just about his sickness. It clearly states their issues are also about his feelings for Aeris.
At the end of the day SE chose to focus on the bond between Cloud and Aeris not only in VII but in Advent Children. Aeris is the one Cloud is pining over all movie and she is the one who ultimately heals him and give him closure. The movie ends with a dramatic scene of Cloud and Aeris staring at each other. Tifa is there in the background, but the main focus is always Cloud/Aeris.
SE are very protective of their relationship and perpetuate it to this very day. In the recent game, they had Tera explicitly saying that Cloud is looking for Sephiroth because he killed the woman Cloud loved.
You might not like it, but Tifa will always be the rebound/second best in the narrative.
Jaxon Parker
And this too, absolute power couple. It's funny how Barret is everything Tifa ever dreamed of Cloud to ever be.
>and then justified it 5 minutes before arriving? The rest was right, but not this. There's a fade to black between the car scene and the death hill scene, implying a long time has passed. Even the weather is different. I hope the Crisis Core version where they get shot while hitchhiking hasn't colored your perception of the events as being necessarily directly linked chronologically.
Luke Flores
Literally none of what he listed was optional.
Ian Smith
Tifa is an afterthought plot device that they added to the story after deciding their main heroine would die for dramatic purposes.
That's why she's so boring and the least fleshed out of the entire cast and her main characteristic is "muh Cloud"
Brody Reyes
>She saw Zack's mannerisms in Cloud, not literal Zack and his personality Those two things are linked. Someone’s personality is expressed through the things they do, what they say, how they say it, etc...Cloud was literally walking and talking like Zack. Even his whole mercany front in the beginning of the game came directly from Zack if you watched the hidden flashback. During the date, Aerith points out how shocking it is that two different people (different as in two separate people) can act the same exact way. Afterwards she also says “things are different.” She knows he can’t really be Zack and wants to meet the real Cloud underneath this fake persona that he created
Dominic Campbell
They have passionate sex while Cloud is crying in the church.
You really don't get what I'm saying and I'm tired of repeating myself.
Parker Watson
Sometimes dicks just do what they want I guess.
Also what do you use to make your protein shakes out of curiousity?
Jacob Powell
>implying it wasn't you

Isaiah Brown
i took giving into one another as having sex. not sure what else that could mean bruh
Connor Morris
Not true. and AC has no relevance to the original FFVII.
Aeris/Cloud is the surface relationships for plebs Tifa/Cloud is the true relationship for people who actually understand what is going on.
Aeris doesn't even know who Cloud is because he is completely broken and out of his mind until Tifa fixes him long after she is dead
Parker Williams
>That's why she's so boring and the least fleshed out Tifa is boring as a character, but excellent as a narrative device
Christopher Bailey
And the shipfaggotry fest began. It was a good thread while it lasted.
Matthew Barnes
Aeris says "things are different, YOU are different". She knows Cloud is different than Zack, and she says she wants to meet him as a hint to him that he's not acting like his real self.
This is stated in canon material. Aeris already saw through to the real Cloud. She was trying to gently coax him into realizing he was bullshitting himself in that scene. That's why Cloud is all "but I'm right here" he doesn't understand and Aeris doesn't push it too far after that.
Matthew Brown
And what about everything else? You're just going to ignore the rest of the game because one scene is up to player choice?
Owen Myers
I don't know which interpretation to even take anymore. Fuck.
Ryan Gutierrez
Yeah it's a shame
Jackson Long
I think the ease of the Aerith date is more a plot point than their relationship status. The whole game goes out of it's way to paint Aerith and Cloud as the perfect couple. Cait Sith's fortune that they're perfect for each other, Cloud's mom saying he should find an older girlfriend. But ultimately this is all to set up the Zack reveal. It's part of the subversion. During Disc 1 we believe Aerith loves Cloud because the game wants us to believe Aerith loves Cloud. Then everything we believed shatters into a million pieces on Disc 2.
Connor Wright
Based and redpilled.
Evan Ortiz
>That's why she's so boring and the least fleshed out of the entire cast Did you mean Aerith? >muh lifestream >muh ancients >muh holy Snore.
Benjamin Wilson
Aeris was watching them from the Lifestream, she knew perfectly what was going on. If not for her protection Shitfa would probably ended up worse than Cloud if not dead.
Squall isn't emo, and I think he's a much better protagonist than Cloude; he's just trapped in a mediocre game. I love FF8 despite it's flaws, but Squall is a much deeper character than he gets credit for.
Rude mentions that he has a crush on Tifa. And in battle he won't attack her for any reason. If his AI targets her then he'll just mutter to himself and do nothing.
> implying the Remake will remember this
Also Cait Sith has the Manipulate materia equipped to him as he muscles his way into your party. In reference to the fact that Reeve is a spy manipulating the party
Matthew Hill
>Lover still dead >Saved the world, only for it to give you space cancer >Gives the child you care and look after space cancer too >Stuck in a shitty courier job to pay the bills >Tifa still doesn't want to bang Yup, no reason to be sad at all.
Leo Murphy
Perhaps I don't. Because then it could just be that the driver was going towards Midgar and Zack was like "Alright, sounds good. Anything's better than here." And then starts musing and planning on what to do in Midgar like he does in the scene. Because it's obvious he needs to get as far away from Nibelheim as he can and if he's fighting while doing it, he will not have had a chance to plan beforehand.
Ryan Reyes
Is anyone else not going to buy FF7 Remake because they don't trust Nomura? I don't trust that man not even in Kingdom Hearts. Why would I trust him with such a major long term central project for this company? The sooner SE realizes Nomura is a hack the better.
Jordan Hill
>Not true.
Great argument.
>AC is not canon because I don't like it!
Another great argument.
>this ship I don't like is for plebs!
Like I said, you don't have to like it but this is very obvious and basic writing. The narrative always focuses on Cloud/Aeris above all and gives them the most dramatic canon scenes. That's why even after your little optional romp in the hay with Tifa, SE still gave no fucks and had Cloud reach out to Aeris the next day and tell Tifa to her face that he wanted to meet Aeris. Their bond always take priority in the story, even over Tifa/Cloud.
They continue to perpetuate the Cloud/Aeris relationship because it was one of the main plot points in VII. Here is Cloud with a quote from the canon Gold Saucer date with Aeris in a recent game.
It's a plot point as in Cloud and Aeris entire relationship and love story is a major plot point in the game, thanks for noticing.
The Zack reveal was devastating because Cloud is not who he really thought he was. It has nothing to do with Cloud/Aeris romance. The canon explicitly states that Aeris saw through to the real Cloud and love him more than she ever did Zack. By the point of their canon date she is already making attempts to get Cloud to see the truth.
Thomas Perry
I use the powder. I don't make custom shakes out of real food like I probably should.
Owen Richardson
Looking at the state of shipping fandoms and their retarded debates if I were Cloud I would kick both Tifa and Aerith in the cunts and run away with best buddy Cid.
Carter Brooks
Take the interpretation that doesn't ignore very obvious writing techniques. Aeris and her relationship with Cloud take priority and are given the most dramatic and important focus over anything Tifa-related.
Ian Taylor
nojima wrote ffvii AND advent children. why don’t you do some research before you spout bullshit?
Ryder Edwards
based and spacepilled
Jason Morgan
They also perpetuate that there is a literal goddess named Minerva that Genesis is looking for even though she was never mentioned before. So is she an actual goddess, a Jenova clone, or is it just the planet having funsies with a self absorbed idiot. Or is it that modern Square has an entirely different paradigm to their writing than they did in 97? Cloud can care for Aeris deeply while still loving Tifa since Tifa has been central to his life for the past decade
Tyler Gomez
Because she's just a plot device, everything that pushes them together is just to make easily manipulated retards feel sad when she dies.
Ayden Perry
I'm not sure I buy that Barret wouldn't keep the gun attached even in this scenario.
Colton Watson
Cloud doesn't even want to bang Tifa. That's why Tifa is so pissy all movie.
Jack Nelson
I haven't played any modern FF so I don't know the true extent of SE's incompetency, but I feel like you're giving them little credit. There's no way anyone would fuck that up.
The truck is in the Midgar outskirts, or at the very least in the same continent. This line makes it clear >Yo! Old guy! We at Midgar yet? Hence why I'm saying that he had no real reason to travel to Midgar other than Aerith. Not even a shipperfag, just stating the truth.
Cloud can have feelings for Tifa at certain points, but Cloud/Aeris was always the main romance in the original game and that hasn't changed.
Blake Edwards
He was depressed because he had space AIDS. He got over it towards the end.
Gavin Miller
compilation is shit and retconned a lot of things but cloud loving aerith has been canon for 22 years. get over it
Kevin Clark
>She knows Cloud is different than Zack Yes...that’s what I said. I mentioned “she knows he can’t really be Zack and wants to meet the real Cloud underneath this fake persona that he created”. She wants to mee the REAL Cloud. However, the Cloud that’s sitting infront of her during the date, the one she’s been traveling with throughout the game so far, is not the real Cloud. It’s a fake persona built from Zack with the help of Jenova cells
James Powell
You just HAVE to know where his gun is, if you catch my drift.
>SE are very protective of their relationship and perpetuate it to this very day. In the recent game, they had Tera explicitly saying that Cloud is looking for Sephiroth because he killed the woman Cloud loved.
>You might not like it, but Tifa will always be the rebound/second best in the narrative.
I don't think anything SE says about FFVII can be attributed to what was actually happening in FFVII. Their understanding of their own game is so shallow that their statements are more like retcons than interpretations of the original game.
Asher Johnson
If Aeris was the main romance then Tifa wouldn't even be an option. You wouldn't be able to take anyone but Aeris around the Golden Saucer and you wouldn't have the option to fuck Tifa under the Highwind, the truth is that both are, it's up to the player to decide,
Michael Ward
and the hijinks that ensues when the air quality decreases because Cid refuses to stop smoking
Kevin Ramirez
Cloud/Aeris are the main romance in the story so they are given narrative priority over anything else, thanks for noticing.
>muh writing Nothing in that game implies that Cloud loves Aeris. Literally nothing. Nothing at all. Not one scene implies that. The closest you get is Cloud being distraught because he just beat the shit out of her or was one second away from slicing her in half. There are a lot of scenes that imply that Cloud loves Tifa.
Oliver Miller
I would draw that if I were a drawfag, fuck.
Cameron Lewis
I don't necessarily agree with the 4th wall part, but he's definitely not emo just to be edgy.
Imagine yourself surrounded by his party members.
> Selfie > Zell > RInoa > Irvine > Quistis
I'd want to shoot myself too.
Sebastian Butler
>I don't know the true extent of SE's incompetency
They threw this into the last of the FF13 games. Not even as a background model, they zoomed in on several close ups.
I hope "AC ruined Cloud" dies now that On The Way to A Smile is fully translated. There's enough context for anyone who cares to understand that AC is the story of Cloud recovering from the trauma he endured (and space AIDS). He isn't emo in DoC because it occurs after AC. And KH Cloud, who solidified "Cloud is Emo", isn't even the same Cloud.
Aerith is pretty fucked up, I'll give you that. But I think the remake has the original personalities down pretty well from what we've seen, so maybe she'll be restored to her original personality.
Gavin Reyes
Yikes with that bargaining phase.
>if Tifa isn't the main romance, that must mean there wasn't one!
No, there was. It was the iconic Cloud/Aeris that was in all the marketing and still is a main focus in games and official material.
I swear it's like two halves of the game were written by different teams of waifufags and then cobbled together into a single game.
Jonathan Brown
>Narrative Priority Something that is forced down your throat is less likely to be true. The game spends 2/3rds forcing that Cloud is Soldier doesn't make it true. Look beyond the obvious.
Lucas Garcia
Squall is hurt by the fact that he doesn't gradually grow as a character and instead just changes like a flipped switch very late in the game. And up to that point he's such a giant asshole to his friends that he becomes frustrating. And his friends become frustrating for not calling him on his bullshit. And he's heavily overshadowed by the much more entertaining Laguna. FFVIII's story is fine conceptually but structurally speaking it's a giant mess.
Jeremiah Long
This, you'd think people who allegedly played VII would know to look past what's directly placed in front of you.
Carter Campbell
He died and Aeris moved on years later, how does that make him a cuck? He was literally dating other girls on the side when he was with her, why would you even want her to wait around for someone like that?
I think Aeris even states that she likes Cloud more than Zack because he's more awkward and isn't a womanizer like Zack. In so many words.
Christian Williams
But.. but he did it all for Aeris really right? Tifa was just a rebound there was no backstory before Aeris died right?
Jordan Thomas
why are shippers always such cancerous retards? It's even worse when they ship characters that barely interact with each other or have obviously no feelings for each other.
Eli Scott
The second half was poorly written and feels forced as fuck most of the time.
Elijah Nelson
Because he's standing there smiling in the background while Cloud and Aerith allegedly make kissy faces at each other according to you.
Gavin Mitchell
>Something that is forced down your throat is less likely to be true.
Do you have brain damage?
>it's not true because this other completely unrelated thing wasn't true!
If Cloud/Aeris wasn't true, they wouldn't still be perpetuating them. There was no "twist" or "reveal". The loved each other and that made it all the more tragic when she dies. Read a book sometime.
Easton White
Can we lay off the shipping wars and talk about how much of a cuck Vincent was? >Girl accidentally kills your father >She also leads you on >Fall in love with her >Then she cucks you with a hideous cunt straight out of a NTR doujin >Still in love with her >She gets knocked up by said cunt >Still in love with her >She does fucked up experiments while the fetus is still in the womb >Still in love with her >Cunt puts you to sleep, locks you up and does fucked up experiments on you >Still in love with her >She also does fucked up experiments on you, transforming you into a were-whateverthefuckhellmaskis vampire >Still in love with her >Spend decades locked up in a basement sleeping in a coffin >Still in love with her Thank you Dirge of Cerberus, god fucking damn
Depends on the sister, but in my experience no; shitposters and hentai make it seem way more common than it is and only children/people who only have brothers don’t know what they’re actually asking for. My older sister was a coldhearted bitch that wanted nothing to do with me even when we were little and turned out lesbian in college. 3 year gap.
Colton Bennett
>their main heroine If you think Aeris was cast as a heroine you must've been playing a different game.
Lucas Walker
They keep perpetuating it because of retards like you that just look at the surface level of things.
Nathan Kelly
Because what we understood about Cloud turns out to be all a lie. His relationship with Aerith is no exception. Basically, the fact that the Cloud/Aerith relationship is bolstered across Disc 1 is itself evidence against it's accuracy.
Nolan Gonzalez
>kitase’s the only one who hasn’t done anything batshit crazy He's the main driving force behind the compilation, in spite of how much they talk up Nomura's role in it.
Adam Gray
So does that make everyone in the Church a cuck? Zack is not dating Aeris, they are donezo. Over. So her looking at Cloud when he's around doesn't mean anything other than the fact that Zack and Aeris were both important people to Cloud bu the main focus is on Aeris because she was the more important to Cloud. Stop projecting your buzzwords so much and grow up.
Julian King
They are either in toxic relationships themselves (them being the toxic part most likely) or lonely basment dweller type retards, so they look into all kind of their favorite 'perfect paifings'.
Brayden Diaz
>I think he's a much better protagonist than Cloude Why?
Connor Bailey
Because the people who wrote the story beyond the original game back in 1996 didn't actually understand their own creation when they came back to it 8 years later.
Dylan Scott
It absolutely does. The canon explicitly states that Aeris wanted to meet the real Cloud, not that she loves him more than Zack.
Chase Parker
The only thing that's immutably canon is the original game.
Alexander Edwards
>It's going to be revealed one day that Coud didn't really love Aeris! Y-you'll see!
Typically desperate, illogical Tifafag.
Hunter Walker
cloud had a crush on tifa when he was a kid. but it never progresses beyond that unless the player goes out of their way to get more affection points for her. meanwhile cloud is attracted to aerith as an adult, agrees to go on a date with her, tries to protect her throughout the game etc etc. and you can’t chalk that up to zack’s influence, he doesn’t literally have zack’s memories
Dominic Anderson
No need to. I accept the fact that the game turns to complete shit when Cloud goes full retard.
Austin Wilson
Vincent is a definition of autistic variation of 'pure one and only love at the first sight' trope.
Dylan James
It does state that she loves him much more than she ever loved Zack.
Even if you go with this argument, Cloud/Aeris was the main romance of the game. So keep going back and forth I guess.
Tyler Parker
But maybe that was the point, that nothing in his life challenged him enough for him to change his habits, and that it can take one person in tge right circumstances to get you out of your bubble.
Jonathan Perez
I genuinely don't understand how Cloud and Tifa are childhood friends when Tifa barely acknowledged him aside from that promise.
Ryder Gonzalez
>Writing a story for people who actually had to understand the story That wasn't a lot of people, look at you for example >Writing a story for people who didn't really pay attention Easy and a quick cash in
They don't love the actual fans they love money and people who invested a lot of time into the finer plot points and character interactions of FFVII don't number nearly as many as people who's main takeaway from FFVII was muh sephiroth and muh aeris.
Kayden Lopez
Because it's the thing being subverted! You're the one ignoring the writing techniques. When you want to subvert something you build it up in the audience's mind before pulling the rug out from under them. Of COURSE the Cloud/Aeris relationship takes priority--because it was revealed to be predicated on a lie later in the game.
Michael Thompson
also it’s not being “forced down your throat.” it’s how the story’s being told. you can’t discredit things that happen outside of player input
Christian Bell
And that's a good thing.
Ian Walker
This is false, but I get why you want it to be true.
Justin Wright
Cloud and Tifa loved each other which makes it more heroic when Cloud fulfills the promise that was mentioned at the start of the game
At the well >Tifa >Hey, why don't we make a promise? >Umm, if you get really famous and I'm ever in a bind...... >You come save me, all right?
And in Nibel
>Tifa >You came. You kept your promise. >So you really did come when I was in trouble!
>Cloud >Sorry... I didn't get there... fast enough...
The thing is they never were childhood friends but Square seems to not remember that.
Christian Reyes
>they are donezo. Over. How are you so sure?
David Wood
I could be a jackass and say the ship between Costa del Sol and Junon can transport cars and that the background of the moving car always reminded more of the Cosmo Canyon area rather than anything on the Midgar continent, but I concede your point.
It is now awkward that Aerith doesn't say anything unless we interpret Zack's visiting Aerith idea as a first of many options, which he rejected on the back of the car, so therefore Aerith didn't sense him later.
Ryan Ward
Zack and Tifafags are like cucks that can't move on. Tifa/Cloud and Zack/Aeris were puppy love romances.
As adults, Cloud and Aeris are the ones who bond deeply much to Tifa's jealousy throughout the game.
>Cloud/Aeris was the main romance of the game You say this but where is the romance part? It's never explicitly or even implicitly stated that Cloud is interested in her that way. Unlike with Tifa at the end.
Robert Miller
I think childhood friends is a very loose term that gets misunderstood in Western fandom. In Japan, it seems that people refer to someone as a childhood friend just because they knew someone when they were kids.
In the West, a friend means someone you were actually close with.
It's just a trope, but Cloud and Tifa were not close at all when they were kids. I think Cloud even highlights this. So I don't know why it even is an argument. You can call them whatever you want, they weren't close and that's the bottom line. Tifa just idealized him as some hero, but Aeris fell in love with Cloud for who he really was.
Joshua Jones
>Nothing in that game implies that Cloud loves Aeris. While this is true, it's mostly because Cloud's feelings for Aeris (and by extention, Tifa) are entirely up to the player. It's not stated or implied that he doesn't love her, either, and the game never makes any attempt to define Cloud's overall relationship with Aeris. The only thing that's canon about any romance between the two are Aeris's feelings for Cloud, but the reverse is something left up to the player to decide.
Brayden Scott
dude you are fucking stupid
Jackson Gray
The fact that Squall is constantly put in charge bugs me more than his attitude. It's when Final Fantasy went full anime cliche and the best warriors were all teenagers and every adult in the game defers to the lead teenager.
Grayson Jones
Can you quote the game script when Cloud states that he is interested in present relationship with Tifa?

>It is now awkward that Aerith doesn't say anything unless we interpret Zack's visiting Aerith idea as a first of many options, which he rejected on the back of the car, so therefore Aerith didn't sense him later. If I had to pick a reason, it would be pretty awkward and rude to come up to the parents of your ex-boyfriend that has been missing for 5 years and say >Hey your son died years ago >How the fuck do you know? >Because the voices in my head told me so I mean, if a complete stranger entered my house and told me my missing son is dead I would be pissed. This is all just guessing though, might be wrong.
Dominic Cruz
Except it wasn't. The Zack reveal had nothing to do with Cloud/Aeris romance. Aeris loved Cloud for how he was because she saw him. This is canon.
The idea that Aeris didn't really love Cloud because "she was just looking for Zack" is a headcanon perpetuated by shippers and has no basis in canon because canon contradicts it.
Kevin Howard
For who he really was? Cloud wasn’t even himself until long after she was already dead.
Adam Cox
I take it you never got the Aeris date?
Adrian Adams
Because he died and she moved on years later? Why would she suddenly go back to Zack when she got over him and fell in love with Cloud? It's over, it's time you moved on user. Aeris sure did.
Kayden Parker
I never understood why some anime girls wear their towels INSIDE the bath. Is that just some shoehorned censorship or a real thing?
Jack Brown
vincent’s kind of an idiot. he even expresses remorse over having to kill sephiroth because he’s her son
Brody Smith
Because the canon explicitly refers to Aeris as Cloud's lover. The marketing for VII says they are in love in the trailer. It's obvious in the game itself, but you clearly don't care about actual truth just want to cling desperately to anything you can to disprove it.
Kayden Brooks
Yeah, I think so as well. Plus, his parents would ask how he died, why he died etc. and Aerith just felt his soul has gone to Lifestream and nothing else beyond that. That would be hella weird to explain how she knows he's dead.
Regardless, Aeris saw who he really was because of her powers. This is canon. In the date, she is letting him know she sees the real him and attempts to get him to see it too but he doesn't udnerstand.
Juan Wright
The whole reason Cloud does anything at all is because he wants Tifa to notice him. Cloud doesn't really try to protect Aeris throughout the game. He crashes through her ceiling and takes on a job where she says she'll give him one date which he literally never brings up again, she does in Gold Saucer if you get railroaded into the default date. Once he see's Tifa going into Wall Street wearing weird clothes he instantly goes to ditch Aeris to save Tifa and Aeris tags along. After Aeris gets kidnapped he's goes to save her because she got caught protecting Marlene and Barret wants to pay her back. After that Cloud spends his time chasing Sephiroth and you barely speak to Aeris again unless you have that date in Gold Saucer. After which you go to the temple of the ancients and he shows no emotions towards Aeris until he beats the crap out of her on the behest of Sephiroth. After that he has a dream that's she's gone to the city of the ancients and see Sephiroth so he goes there to chase Sephiroth. Then Sephiroth forces him to kill her and he refuses so Sephiroth does it himself and then Cloud is gutted over what he's become and what's happened so he dumps her body in a lake. After which he doesn't mention her again until the end of disk 2. Putting his mind together doesn't even require him to confront what happened to Aeris. It requires him to explore his relationship with Tifa.
James Flores
>Why would she suddenly go back to Zack Because she's dead too. Why wouldn't she move on from Cloud?
Nathan Gutierrez
Most likely censorship. It would be stupid to wet perfectly fine towel and have nothing to dry yourself with after.
Lincoln Long
In the date, she said “I’m searching for you, I want to meet you”...implying that she hasn’t met the real Cloud yet.
Austin Bailey
>It's just a trope, but Cloud and Tifa were not close at all when they were kids. I think Cloud even highlights this. He does. The awkward part of it is Tifa genuinely believed they were close as kids, but when they're piecing Cloud back together in the Lifestream, Kid Cloud corrects her, in that she and her group of friends actually excluded him. It wasn't until Cloud followed her up to Mt Nibelheim and her parents forbade him from seeing her that that she started getting curious about him, and they never truly talked until the conversation at the water tower.
Xavier Jackson
Since we're reaching bump limit I just want to say that Zack is the best character in the VII universe.
Except Clouds feelings with Tifa are not left up to the player. It's the central theme of most of Disk 2.
Aiden Turner
She got over Zack. Cloud was her true love, so her feelings for him persist even after her death. Even if she didn't have feelings for Cloud, she still woudln't go back to Zack because it's over.
Isaac Allen
i need pictures of big sisters flashing their little brother.
Elijah James
>in the trailer >just want to cling desperately to anything you can
Do you want to know how I know that you are retarded?
gr8 b8
Thomas Harris
Tifa is a retard and never gave a fuck about Cloud until he left, and even then it was only an idealized version of him in her head.
Meanwhile Cloud and Aeris actually spent quality time together, laughing together and working together when they fell in love.
Colton Myers
Stay salty that Shitfa didn't get Aerith's treatment.
Colton Gonzalez
Eh, he's a bit of a Gary Stu now, thanks to Crisis Core. He was a lot more interesting when the game implied he was a bit of a flirty womanizer that Aeris had a crush on. Taking on Ifrit and Bahamut single handedly was a bit fucking rich.
Zachary Lee
>She got over Cloud. Zack was her true love, so her feelings for him persist even after her death. Sounds about right.
Ethan Watson
I guess that's why in the end of the game Tifa's romance is completely optional and Cloud reaches for Aeris and wants to see her.
Gavin Parker
>tfw had a big sister growing up and she got taken from me by a DUI fag
She knows that there’s something underneath, but she hasn’t met the real him yet. Hence her “I’m searching for you, I want to meet you” line
Lincoln Powell
Canon material refers to Aeris as Cloud's lover. Tera even yells at him for wanting to abandon Lightning so he could go after Sepiroth because he killed the woman Cloud loved.
Nathan Hughes
>The Zack reveal had nothing to do with Cloud/Aeris romance. I don't see how you can accept that the Zack reveal affects literally every other thing we learn about Cloud throughout Disc 1 but then draw a line right at his relationship with Aeris. That makes no sense to me. In fact, it makes the writing several orders of magnitude worse if that's the case.
