You're most likely playing battle royales wrong. You need to drop in medium intensity areas and wipe everyone else out in cqb quickly while they're vulnerable then pivot and spend the rest of the game moving from one dense area to another. Once you've reached a good place to fight you start baiting people by firing off gunshots with a pattern that sounds like a gunfight. If you're doing squads or duos even better, because then you can mimic the sounds of an actual fight and draw players towards you looking for easy kills. Always use terrain to your advantage so your back is protected and try to stay indoors/up high to limit counter-snipers. The barrier here is that you need to the map inside out so you always know where people will be coming from and pick them off from a distance. In pubg vehicular combat is also super important, 99% of players have problems with a car swerving towards them at high speeds and duos and squads even more so. For top tier sniping bullshit in pubg learn bullet drop for your favored guns and what distance each scope is sighted at. Once you know that you can spot far off players and use the map grid to pinpoint roughly how far they are using landmarks, allowing you to do a quick calculation of how you need to aim (this is for super far off shots, over 1km). Finally, grenade usage is the difference between good player and great player, you can play hardcore mindgames with smokes, flashbangs are great for storming buildings, and frags are great for flushing people out as well as getting easy kills.

the sequel was very openly anti-american(the protagonists literally get mirrored to al queda) so I imagine that has a stigma.

'author' stole thr idea and said a bunch of BS about never hearing about battle royale. Japan doesn't have good copyright laws and the creator just stayed quiet.
