what the fuck happened to Unreal Tournament?
What the fuck happened to Unreal Tournament?
fortnite dabbed and took it's place
UT3 wasn't that great and UT4 was just a tech demo to push the Unreal Engine 4. There's no market for arena shooters anymore.

who cares?
Unreal Tournament was always a joint effort by Epic Games and Digital Extremes. They cut out DE for UT3 and it sucked, series never recovered.
xbox
Community development hell.
Nobody was playing it actively anyway so don't act outraged like it's unfair or anyuthing.
no one played it because they kept doing them stupid balance changes every other month messing with the core mechanics, it was so annoying, and felt like it got worse every time.
UT4 was fine, it only lacked assets and levels they completely opened it up to modders and it just never gained much interest for a bunch of reasons
fortnite was on it's last legs too before they released the battle royale mode which is all anyone plays
original devs did some work on the basis of it then released like 2 and a half maps, and from there they said that it was on the community to develop and release the game
and guess what
the community didn't develop shit
things change a lot in 15 years
>15 years
lool look at this retard
my ass that i am waiting 15 years for a fucking game, it is either now or i am jumping to the next one on the line
I mean 15 years ago the modding community was a lot more active and would have jumped on an opportunity like this
>would have jumped on an opportunity like this
never ever
people would make and still make things like maps and skins, not release someone elses game for free, that never happened
Dude that hanged around the forums contributing with weapon models, concept art n'shit here:
The community was left on it's own. Sure, you had the community develop the latest weapon model for you from time to time, but we all fucking know that developing a game is more than that.
The devs left us a skeleton to to which we added some flesh at eyedropper speed, but they themselves contributed to fucking nothing.
Their intentions were clear enough the moment Alexander "Motherfucking" Brandon, one of the magicians behind the amazing soundtrack of the previous UTs stepped in the forums by his own initiative (he wasn't notified of the new game being developed by Epic) and offered his help.
Epic fucking said NO, because they'd rather have the community do it F O R F R E E, much to everybody's dismay.
They didn't want to spend a single cent on this project to begin with, pieces of shit.
The few people who wanted to play a modern Arena-based FPS just played Quake Champions instead.
This.
People always come with the "no one wants arena shooters anymore"
There actually was a good amount of players and active community when UT4 started, but then they fucked around with the core feel of an UT game and everyone bailed.
I'm still making maps for UT2k4, I'd kill for a decent arena shooter to map for
I preferred UT over QC, but one day UT just stopped working and started giving me black screen on launch, couldn't find a solution so I dropped it.
Shame, cause I really enjoyed it. Guess it ain't no country for old men.
>fortnite was on it's last legs too before they released the battle royale mode which is all anyone plays
What? Wasn't battle royale in it from the start?
They probably wanted to attract new players to the game but just ended up disappointing their niche audience
it started out as some PvE base building shit
they put their tech demo out for free and no one played it because it was unfinished so they never finished it
Social justice worriors
It was originally a PVE zombie game, hence the base building. The idea was that you'd make a base, and then fight waves of zombies.
I honestly had no idea. I thought Fortnite didn't even have game modes other than battle royale.
funny, isn't it? That's why you got the destruction and shit. They wanted to hop on the zombie and minecraft craze, missed it, didn't even change the game and still managed to sell it as the latest fad. You can't underestimate the lowest common denominator.
Didn't Epic say they stopped developing it a while back?
Arenafags really need to lower their standards. I get not wanting to play sub-par games, but when every game that tries to cater to the niche just flounders and dies dev's are just going to see it as a completely un-viable genre.
The Fortnite pve game probably would have done perfectly fine if it didn't have a dumb as shit business model. Who the hell want to pay to beta test a game that's gonna launch as F2P?
What games? I can only think of two that aren't just "Q3A, but ugly on purpose", or that have a budget over a couple hundred dollars. One this tech demo, and the other a fucking dota clone.
No shit a genre is dead if there aren't any games coming out. Doesn't mean there's no demand, just look at PoE. They managed to sell that turd to millions of people just because the genre's dead as shit and there was still demand.
god damn that actually sounds way more fun than battle royale crap
Is it possible to pirate the old version and just play that? tower defence/fps blends are one of my favorite things
Would it have been more practical to port ut2004 over to the new engine instead of trying to make a new game from scratch with a skeleton crew?
They would have had much more content to start with and could have added new things from there.
They still sell the PvE. It isn't an "old version"
Pirate to your heart's content
maybe finish the game before you expect people to play it
Abandonware
The other mode is not free to play. It's $40.
They should just mix in some of UT's stuff into QC.
Nigga it was a retrofit of a half dead trend chasing game too late for the last fad (zombie shooter) but just in time for the new one (pubg)
Is nuUT still playable?
What place? UT never had a place.
