Is Central still active? I used to adore blazblue and pretty much bought them on release. But I moved over to GG once that came out. Would love to play it again.

Why did Arcsys decide it would be better to just start shilling out Team Red's Xrd engine and making other parties' games for them and leaving their actual franchises, Blazblue and Guilty Gear, to drain up and die?

Because it takes time to make games and they have multiple teams. Team Red and Team Blue aren't making Granblue or Dragonball.

I'm pretty sure Arcsys had to remove like 3/4ths of Team Red to start and finish DBFZ alone.
Now they have the Kill La Kill game and Granblue on top of that.

And then on top of even that most of Team Blue has been absorbed into Team Red and what's left is working on either UNIST patches or BBCTB patches.

I don't even think more than a handful of people are even working on the new GG game at this point. Fuck I don't even know if they even are working on it anymore. Arcsys is juggling development and patching on 5 different games all at once and they're barely considered a 2nd party company. Unless they've recently hired a 2 or 3 dozen employees I doubt they even have the sheer manpower to be working on anything else right now.

The fact that GGXrd was left to sink or swim with one of the most unbalanced and baffling patches in the game's history is indicative of this as well.

I think Arcsys reached a point where they've oversaturated Blazblue and milked it for a good decade. Just another Blazblue game won't work, it's gotta be something with brand new sprites, a new cast of characters, a new storyline so they're trying to take a break and create a new franchise that they can milk. Guilty Gear to a lesser extent also needs something big to keep it relevant.
